Alonna i want to talk about the miraculous thing that happened at that suspects bail hearing. All the victims families yourself included you spoke out and i have never heard messages like this at bail hearings. Let me play for our viewers what you said to the suspect that day. Although my grandfather and the other victims died at the hands of hate this is proof everyones plea for your soul is proof that they lived in love and their legacies will live in love. So hate wont win. And i just want to thank the courts for making sure that hate doesnt win. Hate wont win. I mean its so profound and poignant. Did you rehearse your words . Did you know what you were going to say when you saw his face . No maam, i was speaking from my heart. I was inspired by the other families when they got up to speak. The Immediate Reaction was, i forgive you. When we got into the courtroom before everything started, it was almost like a family reunion. Everybody was helping each other and expressing condolences for the events that occurred and just the aroma of love. We were all very sad to be there for the reason we were there, there was so much love in the room and it just reminded me that although this situation came together because of hate it will go to the next step from love. Daniel do you think this is how is it possible how is it possible that grieving victims were able to transcend that and talk about love . Is that charleston that we are seeing . When you have those things and you have a foundation to stand on as my daughter said those things that were meant for bad are now good. You have to understand its all about love and forgiveness. Strangers who didnt lose your grandfathers, we are angry. How are you able to transcend that . Well its bigger than what im feeling or its bigger than what we are feeling. Its not about us. If you are the president of the United States this president came out many times after a mass shooting. George w. Bush did sometimes. One man who believes this very much is the chairman of the South Carolina league of the south. They say they are a southern nationalist organization. They say they are a hate group. When you heard about this kid, and what was in his head that made him do these terrible things any sense of guilt for the propaganda you put online that this kid, while he isnt on your rolls and rosters of members may have been reading the stuff you put out that motivated this . No, i dont have any guilt. I had no idea what the young man read except what i have read online. The passion we have is driven by the 500,000 people that were killed by the United States government of 18601865 and thats why the flag is where it is. The question becomes why, right . This is not a new conversation. We know what happens in a war. We know what the flag represents. As one of your Lawmakers Said it is a symbol of hatred. It is a symbol of slavery. It is a symbol of the dedication to that proposition and your organization of course for those who may not know you, you are about that. You are about segregation. You say there should be a good word about slavery now and then. You are free to think those things. If you see any of our literature literature we dont preach hate about anyone. We support the well being and independence of the southern people. Thats where our nationalism comes in. We dont focus on deriving anybody. Slavery was a good thing, though right . Slavery was a good thing . Slavery, well without slavery, all the black people in the United States wouldnt be here. You know if you consider that. That is not a good way to rationalize their existence in the United States of america. Its not a rationalization. Its a fact. Its a fact that denies the context of brutality that marred this country on several levels. I do not think it is fruitful to discuss what your organization believes. It comes down to the flag. Can you tell me anything that flag represent that is is not harmful to somebody else . Yes, it represents my ancestors who died defending our lands from an invader, a ruthless murderer as a matter of fact. Yeah its a memorial to those men and i think it should stay right where it is.
