Than donald trump as your president. No president has done more for the evangelical community and its not even close. I think the reason that it did is that white evangelicals are the core of his support. They about 75 support among white evangelical compared to 42 in the country at large. If hes going to get elected he has to keep the support. Hes freaking out they maybe waivering. Which i suspect is probably premature. This a magazine with a circulation of 90,000. What is highlights is that white evangelicals are not there are differences of opinion. Not all made this bargain of saying that because he gives us judges that we like were willing to over look the atrocious behavior. That is troubling a will the of christians out there. Typically trump doesnt understand what theyre talking about. He doesnt understand concept of morality. I give you all this stuff. Back me. It doesnt occur to them they might be troubled by the way he conducts himself in office. I do agree. I think that this is something we all knew all along. Donald trump came to office with this record. He was cheating on his wife lying about obama. Bragging about grabs women by private parts. Defrauding his university. That gave us all the evidence we need by the time he took office he didnt stop doing any of those things. Why did it take so long before somebody in the evangelical community with this promise finally spoke up and said what we all knew. Evangelical leaders like franklin graham, ralph reed, are all now slamming the magazine and defending trump. Why are they so loyal . I think trump made a transactional arrangement with evangelical voters. And he began that contract by selecting pence as vice president. Loyalty is not something very christian. Its not something that will last. If the senate flips i think that trump will do a deal with schumer on judges and sell out the evangelical Community Like he sold out everybody hes done business with. Thats why i left the team after the hollywood access tape. We know what hes been. The key is ten to 15 of republicans think it was proper to impeach him. Thats a lot of people. If half vote for somebody like joe biden, it could be a real change. Im someone who i worked on the came pain of mccain. Romney and rubio. In the house as a republican staffer. I never voted democrat for president. I would vote for joe biden. Hes a nice guy. I agree on policy. But i would vote for him over this guy. The list is long we dont have time. My father found a christianity today. He would not agree with the with opinion piece. My father knew trump and believes in him and voted for him. This is based on them taking a leap of faith for the president. And he is followed through. He promised them that he would appoint judges. And promised support religious liberty he delivered. He promised to support israel. And his faith and Opportunity Initiative at the white house is a great sounding board between social conservative and this president. Billy graham may have been the driving force for the magazine. That out let is now driving under the influence of left initiatives. And no disputing that. Look at the stories they write. They have a left leaning slant. I dont see a problem with that. Republicans dont corner the market on christianity. Christians lean to the left and right. This leans to the left. It is fine. You can be a christian and have social conservative views and be a christian and have more left leaning views. Thats what we have here. To say that this is shows theres a crack with the social evangelicals and trump is inaccurate. Social evangelicals of this country still stand behind trump. Thats the problem. If thats true. Why are they standing by him . Theres a poll recently that showed white evangelicals were willing to support and acknowledge a leaders fault. When donald trump was president in 2016. In 2011 the same poll and asked evangelicals about obama. They said they werent willing to acknowledge and accept the person with moral failings. Theres total hypocrisy. They made joined in this marriage with the Republican Party. Thinking the Republican Party we have been told 30 years this was the party of the family values. The party of morality. Theyre supporting this guy equating nazis and with good people. Support among white evangelicals is overwhelming. It is now the case when it comes to black christians. Why such a huge divide . Because black evangelicals understand racism. White evangelicals and White Christians use the bible to justify slavery. They use the bible to justify segregation. And justify oppression against africanamericans even today. Africanamericans know this. Situational ethics . Situational belief. For black people for the people i know christianity has been more about redemption. And salvation. And less about judgment. What you get from the christianity of the right the evangelical White Christian base is a bunch of judgment. We dont like you because you are muslim. Or because you are mexican. Because youre immigrant. Well think differently of you. Its a become a faith that at least in the hands of white evangelicals inshrined white supremacy. Its terrible for the faith and white evangelicals. Its terrible for the Republican Party. And they want to have morality to have moral grounding they have to get back to what they believed nd from the beginning. Something that alice said. A truly disturbing story tonight iowa woman is facing charges of attempted murder after allegedly intention le hitting a 14 yearold girl with her car. Telling police it was because the girl was mexican. She actually telling investigators that actually telling investigators that. Joining me now. Good evening. This is a real crazy story. Omar, what happened . Fill us in. So this happened just outside des moines, iowa. And what we learned from police this 42 yearold woman intentionally hit this 14 yearold girl as she was walking to her middle school. And fled the scene. Luckily the 14 yearold girl survived but it was later on when she was arrested and in place had a chance to sit down and interview her about what happened police say she admitted she hit the girl because she was mexican. Now in the circumstances surrounding that specific arrest it happened at a Convenience Store about an hour after the incident took place. And it was there that the affiliate reports that the woman was hurling racial slurs at Convenience Store employees there. Just before the arrest actually happened. Again a little bit about an hour later and in regards to the specific hit and run Incident Police say authorities are still exploring the possibility of a hate crime. Do we know how the girl is doing . Yeah. Luckily shes doing okay. And one thing to keep in mind were just learning about the new motivation that police say came from the suspect, the actual incident happened back on december 9. Obviously still fresh on the mind of the girl and her family. This is how she described what happened in those moments. I remember waking up in the snow. And them screaming im crying. How did this happened, why am i in the snow . Obviously you can see how battered she is. Just with the tremendous physical impact. We can imagine the car coming through. It was about a week later we understand she is okay enough to go to school. And im sure her class was glad to see her. I know you were in disbelief. Appalling story. The idea this was intentional. What are you thinking . It made me sick to my stomach. And it made me think about all of the young latin os in the country. And young girls and boys of color who lived in fear. And yes, ill say it. Ever since trump became president. And frankly in iowa we know this is nothing new. Given the racism and the hatred in the White Nationalism spewed every day by steve king. And look, yes, trump nor steve king they didnt drive that car into the young mexican girl. But they did inject a viral hatred and divisiveness that mobilized people to believe they can wear that kind of hatred and that not just on their sleeve, but show it in their actions. And this is what we have seen time and time again. Words matter. This was not a coincidence. The same way that the latin massacre in el paso earlier this year where you had another White Nationalist drive six hours to kill mexicans. Was noft an accident. The same way charlottesville was not an accident. Donald trump didnt invent racism. Right, we know that. He has injected that hatred and violence in to the bloodstream of america. Where now those White Nationalists and those racists feel like they dont have to be ashamed of what they see. Before even the kkk used to wear white sheets on their heads. In charlottesville they were in plain site. Its like people like trump and steve king have given a pride to the White Nationalism and hatred. And it makes me sick. As an immigrant and as a mother of two young latin o children. Im afraid for them when we go out to rural places in the country. You know my children. I speak spanish to them in public. Its the first time in my life since this president became president that i now any twice because i think to myself am i making my children less safe because im speaking to them in spanish in a public place. And from the president personal lawyer. That is not how the this is supposed to work. The way its supposed to work is were providing oversight. Just as the house provided oversight. We shouldnt be jumping to conclusions. The president has said that he wants a trial. And he wants he thinks hell be exonerated. How does that impact the negotiations . He sletays lets do it. Its very unlikely hell be convicted. You need twothirds. Thst a republican majority. Mcconnell is already said he thinks the president is going to be acquitted. Anybody betting against that would be making a bad mistake. I view this as opportunity for us to try to reestablish what standard we want out of the president of the United States. Do we want somebody who shaking down a foreign leader for his own political purpose. And neil mentioned earlier the day that donald trump fired comey and told the russians while he was in the white house he was glad he got that off his back. Hes not being impeached for that but i guarantee you that if obama had done that, he would have been impeached for that. So what i hope is that we are reasserting the standard even if hes not convicted. Of what we want out of the a president. But when we talked to the carnival glory passengers, we actually talked to people who were in the dining room, which was what was hit. The bow of our ship went straight through the dining room. They said it was mass chaos. And even some of the workers in the dining room were running, you know, over people trying to get out because they no one has seen anything like this happen before. So, mckenna, you saw the back end of that ship. It was crushed. Were you worried that more people may have been injured . Yeah. Yeah, i think after the initial shock of it all happened, i just thought about, oh, my gosh. Im like, i really hope that people are okay because it was a straight window. I didnt know at the time it was the dining room. I mean its windows. Thats probably where people are going to be. I didnt know exactly where it hit on our boat at the time of seeing it happen. So i just thought, i really hope people are okay from our side and on that side, that no one got seriously hurt because that would that would just be terrifying. Yeah. Maddie, after this happened, all the passengers were advised to go enjoy the day in cozumel. I mean were you actually able to do that . Yeah. You know, once we got off and there was the initial shock of the ambulances coming through, and, you know, they pulled the boat right next to us, so we were able to see up close all of the metal and glass still coming off the ship. Once we kind of got past that, leek i said, its our femaamily vacation. We went and had fun. We had a 1 1 2yearold niece, sophie, that came with us, and we wanted to make sure she still enjoyed her day. So we took her out.
