Mr. Grey will see you now. And as America Works out the valentine kinks, does fifty shades of grey glamourize abuse or is it good clean fun. And now i want to get into the video that everybody is talking about the president s collaboration with buzzfeed and here it is. E for signing up for Health Insurance is february not like any other wednesday. That is not like it. Wensday. February 15th. February 15th. And in many case, you can get the Health Insurance for less than 100 a month, and just go to healthcare. Gov to sign up. February 15th. Oh thanks obama. Thanks obama. Pretty good. Thats pretty good. Seconds left in the game down by one. Buzz he gets it. Mr. President . Can i live . Krou do you. Yolo man. All right. All right. It is weird to see a buzzfeed video outside of my laptop or outside of my cell phone or the iphone. President s are just like us, and who better to break it down than that this man, and you know him and love him, shark tanks ceo damon john, and so, damon, i guess it worked with 50 Million People, and weeree are on e Television Watching it. And what do you think . E yes, our tax dollars are not paying for the spots, and i love it. He is saving uts money already. And you think so. Is this a new commercial, you think . You know, i think it is a new commercial. I love the way that he used, a hend se not branding himself, but he is branding himself with the initiative being the benefit, and he is always doing nontraditional e media whether it is between two ferns or meeting the people where the people are at. And so you are the branding genius here as i said and we see the president sticking out the tongue, and winking, and smirking and trying on the sunglasses all if if front of a dirty mirror i might point out, and how good or bad is this for the brand . Well, it is excellent, and it is showing the people that the president is human. I think that hes doing what we all do on our own time public or private and who out there has not sent their wife or child a selfie, and you mow, the government and the president is somebody who is elected be i the people for the people and i think that he is showing that he is human, and that is part of the brand and he has always been successful at that. And we have an idea that it is old school and maybe it is no longer going to exist, and im not sure that the president should be this stodgy person who only does the Mainstream Media and only press conferences the east room or the oval office and are those days gone . Well, you know, the term, and the president ial term or the acting president ial evolving term and you have a roosevelts with the fireside chat who was meeting the people where they were, and the president clinton playing the saxophone, and maybe that is not good enough anymore, because with the transparency and the market people know that people are hueman, and the president is human, and he showed a lot of president ial characteristics, and showing that he is about family, because he is drawing a puck chuicture of his wife and he even practiced the word february and practicing the speech and before he take ss the stand with practicing february, and so he is human, and he practicing. And i used to always get this in school, it is february right . And so while he is asking for war powers, is that at odds or can he do the both at the same time time . Well, he can do both, and pushing the the agenda in a viral way is also gaining a lot of people who believe in his agenda and believe in what he is doing, and however he will endorse or believe to be our next leaders, and i think that the people he is hitting are going to be the next leaders and the decisionmakers, and so i think that he can only heldp by showing that he is one of us. And if you had a president ial contender, and someone who is running for president , would you advice him to do the same thing . I would only advise him to do the same thing if it is natural to them. When he was elected, he actually had a very young turnout and he had People Revolt within the system, because they felt like they had the power, and you should only do that if it is natural to you. So i think that it is coming natural to the president. He is a cool president. He is hip. Daymond john thank you. Now shgs now, i want to bring in the cnn president ial historian Douglas Brinkley brinkley, and that is a good question, could any previous president do that . That is a good question. No, this is his forum, and he is ideal for it. And we have seen him do similar stunts for it for the white house correspondence dinnerer but every president has the forte, and jfk pioneered the press conference dinner and jim m carter tried to do the callins, and people he would take because talkradio was hot, and it went sideways on him, and in this case it works. It works because it is novel on it right now to do it on buzzfeed as the Affordable Care act is looming, but if he did it a lot, it would not be funny and it would be tedious and work against him, but for a oneoff, it is funny and not to be overdone. And so there is the headline which mug of the president diminishes the president the most and then it ranked it, and so do you think that this diminish diminishes the presidency, a. V. . Well, parts of it were obviously unrealistic. And president obama, although he is good at doing the hip videos, and ha they knew absolutely which elements would make it go viral, and that is going to help you to sell a product, and that is what he is doing, he would never practice the speech in front of a mirror and it would never be dirty, and that is something we know, and he would not practice the speech in front of the mirror but they would. Jim can up the enrollment for the ahca and this is overt, and the technique they used, but the question is whether or not they have tried to do a whole bunch of things to sell this the product, don. They have had richard simmons, and pump crawl cans, ands, and a number of goofy thing, and the appearance of the between the two ferns, and he was the center of it, and long video and some of it was foofier than others ier goofer than others, and as douglas said he should not do it a lot, and as this is the week of the death of kayla muleeller confirm and he is asking congress for more war powers and is this the week to make this type of a video . Is there an issue of doing this video, and giving them an interview s and again, this video follows the interview that they had to give buzzfeed that video, and giving this them an interview . Well, i think that it is just an extra deal out of the buzzfeed, and valentines day is here, and in this, he is drawing a picture of the wife, and once i had a book of Ronald Reagan where he would write the mash notes to nancy, and it is something that went over exceed exceedingly well. And president roosevelt would do a whole schtick about his dog when he was being criticized and it is a Holiday Weekend and everybody is going out, and february 15th, sis an important day for the Affordable Care act, and the president needed to push it forward around the immediatemedia hits is getting 14 or 15 Million People already, and it is working. And we are leading wit tonight at 10 00 p. M. On cmn and so it is working in some way, and lets show the other president s here, and we remember bill clinton playing the saxophone on the arsenio hall show as governor and so people believe that sort of trail blazed this sort of thing. I dont know why they say that, because remember Richard Nixon in the 70s saying sock it to me. This the didnt just start with this president , a. B. . Well, it is true if you are barack obama, and you can do this, you can use it to your advantage, and im not opposed at all to president s humanizing himself. He will invite some criticism this week for some of the contents of the video, because it is sort of, you know, a little bit goofy, but also because it is not going to might not this week have something to do with to a amidst the crises to get a few more acha enrollees, and the visitors have been unbelievable, and the public likes that the, and he should continue to do what works, but the jury is still out on whether or not this video works. And i dont see anything wrong wit. And at first, you see buzzfeed, and when you see it, it is humanizing him and it is is good clean fun. And he is drinking cookies and mill milk, and how much more and you dont get more american than that . I mean a lot of people do that and our own wolf blitzer likes cookie and milk before bed, a. B. . And it is selfdeprecating, and he says, thank you, obama. And he is making fun of himself, and he knew which parts would go viral and the music is fine and the parts of it were cute but he is going to be drawing attention with Something Like this from the critics about the context of the the week. At the same time maybe the rules of the landscape are gone for president ial conduct. And how do the republicans compete with this in the elections or the democrats. How do they compete with this . Well, they are not listening to isis briefings this week, and he is a president and not a president ial candidate a and that swun point they would make. I wanted douglas to weigh in on that as well. Can they compete with that . E yes kr, a yes, a senator went from castrating hogs went to the senate. So all bets are off, and it is a wild media frontier out, there and kand lates will use whatever ease they can to create buzz. The president made good use of it and we beat up on barack obama when he had the selfie at the heros funeral at the funeral of Nelson Mandela and nouw he is taking the selfie and making fun of it in a culture where everybody is doing it. So it is showing e selfdeprecation, and yet it is a wall of the numbers that people are looking in on it. And haters are going to be hating. And yolo guys. And you have seen the movie, but it is the beginning of the story, and we are live with the latest on the american sniper ooh trial. And we weigh in on the man accused of killing chris kyle. Plus americas new movie obsession, is it fifty shades of wrong. Two women are going toe to toe, does the it glamourize violence against women . And what about this Sports Illustrated cover . Fifty shades of grey tells the steamy story of christian grey the attractive and seductive billionaire and Alexandra Steele the woman he seduces. I dont do romance. My tastes are very singular. You wouldnt understand. Enlighten me then. Some people are up if in arms about the movie, but does it really glorify violence against women . Joining me now is a legal commentator and legal analyst, and also dawn hawkins will join us in a moment but we will start with you, mel. We know the story of a handsome billionaire who sweep sas young virginal College Student to be his sex slave, and it has angered the conservative right, and the bondage and s m community. Community. Well, i dont know why it is angering the bondage can and the s m community, unless they feel they are a exclusive club and they dont want it to go mainstream. But i find it perplexing, because it sold 100 million copy and i thoroughly enjoyed the terrible writing and the inkred incredibly inspiring tricks that you could bring into your bedroom, and in no way shape or form did i find that this book promotes violence against women, because in Domestic Violence relationships, there is typically not a written contract nor is there a safe word. And what happens in the end of this book is if the you read the series is that she ends up well, dont give it up. Well she is the powerful one, and he isnt. And the whole thing is perplex ing ing, and it is like when pretty woman came out, and that woman with julia roberts, and people thought that it glorified prostitution and people did not run out to to be prostitute, and this is not glorifying Domestic Violence, because it is not a book about Domestic Violence. And dawn mel said it sold 100 million copies worldwide and became a crazy cultural phenomenon and there is a clearly market for it. Well, it is when you remove the glitz and the glamour and the powerful job and the suits, a hnd is is uses humiliation, and coercion, and degradation, and she does not sign the consent form until the second book and it does not happen in the movie, and she is not kon consenting, but she is looking for a love story, and a partner and companion, and he is telling her, if you dont do what i say, you will lose me. And wait, how she is not consenting if she is an adult, and allow inging him to do this. And repeatedly, he says to this, you have to say what i say, or this relationship is not going to be working, and it is not informed consent, because she is not aware of the physical and the lasting psychological damage that it will cause, and so it is this kind of kon sent is really a sham. Mel . Look. I think that in life, you take your own experiences and your own agenda, and you apply them to everything. And if you are committing your life to being an advocate against Domestic Violence you will find evidence of that wherever you want the look. I personally think that it is what it is. It is a crappy written book that gave women across the world an escape from their crappy love lives in their bedrooms, and had them open up their horizons to a different way to have Sexual Satisfaction in a consensual relationship and to make this anymore than a poorly written book anything more than that is a stretch, don. The reason it is so many women have jumped on board is because it shows women that they can fix the violent and the controlling men if they are loving and obedient enough, and 25 of women are in intimate relationship with partner violence. I agree with president obama. He is just said at the grammys that hollywood is driving the message of our culture, and right now, hollywood is telling us that violence is sexy and that it is legitimate. And is this do you think that what is the difference of this and i hear people saying this that this is maybe porn or one step away are from porn. And now it is in mainstream and like people are glorifying the book that is porn is mainstream don. And porn is mainstream and this is a direct result of the porn culture. And porn graography today is extremely violent, and most of it shows the women tied up and beaten. And men have been getting a regular diet of this for a long time. I think that is also incorrect. And i dont know what porn you are watching. And one at a time. And now we are telling the women to accept the violence in pornography and try it in their own relationship, and we will see more increases in sexual and violent e relationships for a long time to come. That is absolutely ridiculous to say that a poorly written book, and a lame movie that is tame in terms of showing the sexual reality and the scenes that is somehow going to be promoting violence and what nobody is going to be talking about is the real reason that this woman is attracted to the dude is because he has a helicopter and a penthouse and because she loves that kind of lifestyle. And he has a lot of money. And that is only the reason. And talk tact poorly written and maybe you are saying that and maybe there should have been picture cans. And so, this is the new cover of Sports Illustrated. And dawn what do you think . It is a little low, and not a lot there, and what do you think about this cover . Exploitation . Well, it is very much exploitation exploitation, and a focus on the genital area and the model said that this is the best day. It is a sad day when we are teaching the the young girls ta they have to be porn stars in order to have the most satisfaction in their life. Mel . I have already bought the issue and flipped through it and done my bathing suit shopping and handed it to my husband and there is nothing wrong with celebrating womens bodies and i love the no no shgs, no. Hang on, dawn. Hang on, dawn. And hang on, both of you shgs, and put the picture up. And put the picture up. What what . So what she is half an inch and not even would be, and it would be penthouse. And i compare this to hustler and playboy. . And mel first. I said she is completely waxed and we are not seeing anything that is objectionable, and for crying out loud you see this on the cover of cosmopolitan and naked people on the cover of vanity fair and we expect it every february and if you dont see it, dont buy it. We should not have to put up the objectivity of women. And people are forced to see this dont buy it. And 10yearold pois are forced to see this. And so are 10yearold girls. And you should buy a magazine if you want to, but this is sold, at the drugstore across the street and you, this is like an adult magazine that should not be sold in the stores where kids can be seen. You dont believe that . I do. I actually and the cover . And you know me, im not a prude, because i thought it was a porno magazine in the drugstore, i really did. And then what you do is that you talk to the kids about it. I have a 15 and 14yearold daugt daughters, and you say, and you show them the cover, and you say, look, dont do that to your bathing suit. Use the words to describe with what you think about how this woman is behaving. And talk to them about it, but this is a magazine for adults, don, and again, if you dont like it, dont buy it. I think that these women look beautiful. I love the bathing suits that they pick and i look forward it to every february and i buy it for my husband and good on you. Because that is something, a and they are beautiful, and i am not taking anything away from the beauty, but thank you, ladies. It is what . Nothing. I have said my peace. Thank you very much and see you next time. And the other box office sensation, american sniper but what happened to the real chris kyle is nothing compared to the real shocking trial. More revelations today in the american sniper trial that chris kyle and his friend chad littlefield may not have known what hit them. Martin savidge joins us with day wo of the testimony, and who did the jury hear from today, martin . Well, first the crime scene can investigator the, and the really intriguing thing about what the person a had to say is that it was discovered that both chris kyle and his best friend chad littlefield both of them had fully loaded semiautomatic pistols that were tucked in a holster in their waistband and yet the safety was still on them, and what they are clearly try to demonstrate here and this is the prosecution that whatever happened that whatever the suspect did, he did it so quickly that he was able to kill both men that they could not reach the gun that was at their side side. And what was the medical examiners testimony tell them about the injurys to chris kyle and chad littlefield. And again, the medical examiner said that by describing the wounds that they were so severe that both men died not quite instantly, but very, very quickly. For instance, chad kyle was shot six time ss, and at least e three of the bullets, and any one of them would have killed him and his are friend was shot seven times, and three of the shots are there would have easily killed him, and he finished by saying that neither man would have survived the wounds they suffered from eddie routh. And it is important, too, martin, to poe what happened after the shooting what eddie routh did. Right. This is very important, because as you will remember the defense is saying that he he was insane and he did not know what he was doing, and the prosecution is saying that he knew full well what he was doing, because he fled in chris kyles pickup truck, an then he stopped to have a meal a couple of hours later, and went through the drivethrough, and bought a couple of burritos and this then they figured out at that point that he was the suspect in the double homicide and ryed to get him to surrender and instead, he took off on a highspeed chase and showed that video in court, and it is quite dramatic and one police car ram the pickup truck. It did not stop it then, but the damage was done down the road and then it quit and that is when the police took him into custody. Martin savidge, thank you. I want to bring in the judges. Alex herrer and judge bell vin per ri. And so six gunshots to chris, and seven to chad. And both of them had their own weapons in the waistbands and they could not use them, and what is that going to tell you about what happened, judge alex, and what more do you want to know . Well w one of the things that it tells me is that the prosecution has another arrow in the quiver to prove instan ti insanity, because he had clearly waited for both of the men to shoot all of the pistols they were shooting the westernstyle pistols, and when that is empty then both of the men were shot and killed. And what is raising a question for me and that point of them waiting for that time it kind of it suggests somebody who is of a lucid mind and cold and calculated plan here. And the question that it raises in my mind is exactly how did he kill both of them without one of them charging him, but a thauz is a lot of rounds to fire, six into one person and seven into the other, and im wondering if he had a gun in each hand or if he shot two rounds into one victim and two into another, and then went back to finish the job. Im not sure if we will know the answer to that or not. I suppose that we will have to wait for the ballistics to come out to say whether they are the same bullets in each individual or whether theres a mix of bullets in both of the victims. And the pistols being empty, judge, is that telling you it is premeditated premeditated . It is showing premeditation. And shoiting as judge alex said that he laid in wait until he could get the drop on them. And then waiting for one to the next because they were incapacitated with that. 45 caliber shots in the area they were shot. After the shootings, judge perry, routh fled the scene, and then a police chase, and draltic police chase and standoff and a body camera recorded him talking about satan and saying that he had take anne u couple of souls, and saying that i dont noet know if i am going insane or not, and how will the jury interpret that . Elwell w first of all the statement by the fact that he had take anne couple of souls, and that he had some more to take and clearly indicates that he is admitting that he killed them. Now, the psychiatrists or the psychologist s that psychologists that were viewing this, they were going to view it in a different lenses. And some might conclude that there is evidence that he may be delusional by using the word soul or another psychiatrist or psychiatrist may say that is evidence that hes not insane. So it is really going to depend on how they view that particular piece of evidence, and those statements. Judge alex routh also went to taco bell after the shooting, and he bought two bane burritos and to go for a meal after you have killed two people how does the jury perceive that . Well, the argument that the prosecution is going to make is that look at the thinking, because he is not so disoriented that he thinks that the guys are a threat to him, and he is shoots h them and in the back and kis them, but he cant order dinner and he clearly xwos to order the dinner. The more damning is to flee from the police. And the texas follows the mcnaughton law, and that is that they cannot be deemed culpable if they are offering from a di disease or defect, and they cannot tell the difference of right and wrong, and fleeing the police is a clear indication that you know that you have done something wrong, and that is going to be used against them as well, and the defense will say, oh, you see, he is insane but Mental Illness which he may have as well, but it is not a Legal Defense can, and people hate to say he is not gilluilty by reason of insanity, because they foe that he will end up back in public. And the testimony, judge per perry, it is always interest, aid am sure that you want to hear the expert testimony in this one and you know it is going the to be explosive. Yes. Certainly. And judge perry . Skwle y it is going to be interesting how these particular experts view the conduct. Some may view it in the sense of flight that, you are go ging to be having a few that say he is under a psychosis, but if you are look carefully at the video, he gets out of the car, and he follows the officers commands to get down on the street, and lies down on the street, so it going to be interesting to see how they weave this into saying that he was in a psychos is sis psychosis hours ago. Thank you, judges. See you soon. Thank you, don. Thank you. Burke talk to farmers and get smarter about your insurance. We are farmers bumpadum bumbumbumbum hope you caught this today, the director of the fbi speaking out about race and the police. I am joined by lisa bloom and jeffrey toobin. Lets talk about what he said. Federal prosecutors are going to be charging one individual with arson at the ferguson market and this is in the protests after the Michael Brown grand jury decision not to indict officer darren wilson, and what do you make of this before we talk about it . Well this is a monstrous crime. What these folks did to the businesspeople and what they did to the community, and the danger they put individuals in, and i think that it is very good that people are being prosecuted, and we will see if they are guilty obviously down the line. But these were serious crimes, and very serious from the legitimate protests that went on in ferguson. And you say this is one reason that we have the fbi, right . Absolutely. These are dangerous crimes, and they should be investigated and prosecuted prosecuted. And we heard from the fbi director james comey on the sensitive issue of police and race e relations. We will talk after this statement. After years of police work officers cant help but be influenced by the cynicism they feel. A mental shortcut is in some instances rational and the two young black men on one side of the street looks like so many others that they locked up a twond white men on the same side of the street even in the same clothes do not. What did you make of the statements lisa . Well, i was appalled by that particular comment. I will say that overall, i feel like he is trying to do the right thing, and trying to have a conversation about race, but to say that the racial profiling is maybe even rational and it is not rational and it is offensive, and it is unconstitutional, and one quick example in new york where millions of data and pieces of racial profiling, and are where blacks and hispanics are often stopped by police, they are rarely guilty of any crime, and whites when they were stopped are more likely to be carrying the contraband, drugs or weapons, and so it is time to turn the page on the racial profile, and stop making excuses for it. And did you think that he was making excuses for the racial profiling, because i got the opposite of it jeffrey . No, i dont believe he was trying to do ta, because i had a different complaint about the speech but i also agree that it was well intentioned and trying to address some longstanding problems, but you know this business of calling for a National Conversation about race just strikes me as, you know, we have heard these national kon conversations, and calls for the National Conversations before. I am much more interested in the specifics of what we can do about these problem ss, and so i think that he had modest suggestions about the improved recordkeeping, and we dont know how much people are shot by the police every year. Obviously, we should know that. He talked about the the body cameras, but i didnt think that it was a defensive racial profiling e speech. At the top of the speech he says that after what happened in ferguson, and ethen he mentioned Michael Brown and eric garner and he talked about the protest, and he said that we have not had a productive discussion about race and no one seems to be listening, and i have to applaud him for that and agree with him, that nobody is listening. Why . What does that mean . What should they be saying . Everyone is everyone has been going into the corners, and only hearing from their one side. They are giving no credence to the other side. It is about when you are having a conversation, and you want to change things it sis about listening, and you want to listen even if you find the other person wrong, you have to get into the room or the television or doing whatever and actually discussing it. That is not happening. And don, that is healthy, and i h thi i think that we can have a conversation, and also have action. Theres a mountain of data that says that the criminal Justice System is driven by racial bias and from where the police focus the attention in the poor africanamerican neighborhoods from arrests to convictions to sentencing sentencing and where where somebody from the head of the fbi can do something about it besides having a conversation, and that is the frustration. And i dont think that the gist of what he said is just to have a conversation, and that is one part of it, and jeffrey, do you disagree . Who can object to a conversation . Well, it strikes me as you know harmless but sort of meaningless, and the specifics of the specifics that lisa is talking about, and just for example, talk about marijuana and talk about how many after africanamericans are arrested for marijuana and white people are not in similar or comparable numbers, and those are the sorts of specifics that we can address and the conversation thing means relatively nothing. All good point, and i will see you soon. Thank you, lisa and jeffrey. We have break muse to report the night.
