Making his way through the streets of havana to cheers and cheers and huge crowds. He will hold evening prayers with catholic leaders tonight. He will also meet with thousands of young people at a cultural center. Coming up, well take you there live. First we begin with president ial politics. A brand new poll that shows a dramatic reshuffling after the politics of last weeks debate. Donald trump still in first place but his lead has dropped by aeight points. Take a look at what who behind him. Carly fiorina rocketing into second place with 15 . Just squeaking by ben carson who is in third at 14 . We have more on the numbers and the candidate who is polling so low he didnt even make the list. Lets start with that candidate who was winning in iowa not too long ago. Reporter thats right. Thats Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker who, as you noted, as been just a few months ago up in the polls in iowa. Hes seen his support really plummet. This latest poll really confirms that. Hes barely registering in this poll. Now coming in at an asterisk which means he has less than onehalf of a percentage point. Ill show the comparison now. Donald trump is still the frontrunner but really on a downward slide sliding 8 age points in the past three weeks. Compare that to Carly Fiorina. Hes leaped up 12 percentage points. Thats a huge gain in really that only three weeks of time. The energy has confirmed her momentum. Meanwhile as donald trump is seeing his support slide, hes still faced with a will the of questions on the campaign trail from that moment that happened last week with that supporter at one of his town halls not only for failing to support who claims that president obama is a muslim and not american but also not disputing the motion when he said that muslims are a problem in the United States. Today on state of the Union Jake Tapper asked donald trump if he has a responsibility to correct things like that. Here is how he responded. You know we could be politically correct, if you want. Are you trying to say we dont have a problem because i think everybody would agree. I have friends that are muslim. They are great people, amazing people. Most muslims, these are fabulous people. We certainly do have a problem. You have a problem throughout the world. Whats the problem . You have radicals that are doing things. It wasnt people from sweden that blew up the world trade center, jake. I get that but to say we have a problem and its called muslims because there are some extremist muslims is tarring all musli muslims. You would agree i dont agree with that at all. You have extremist muslims that are in a class by themselves. Its a problem in this country and a problem throughout the world. Donald trump this weekend while in the campaign trail he was confronted by a student who asked him if he could consider putting a muslim on his ticket or a muslim in his cabinet. Lets begin with the fact that Carly Fiorina is the headline of this poll. A month ago she wasnt even going to be on the main debate stage. Not only is there shes in second place. On top of that our cn thr nrksc thought she did hands down b, best job at the debate. Surprised at all . No. I think that proves she was paying attention. It was a long bedate but thdeba were watching. She won it be a mile. Shes got a moment. I think marco rubio has a moment. They have to capitalize on this moment because those moments dont come very often. If you dont capitalize they quickly slip away. I think theres no question shes capitalizing on it but if you look back at her senate race in 2010 against barbara boxer, one of the leaders said they were really nervous when she entered the race. Ultimately she didnt prevail. How does she do it this time around . I would assume she has a better answer to the questions that are coming about her stewardship of hewlettpackard. We all know the facts, losing 30,000 employees. She was fired as ceo. She has to have better answer than she gave in california. Let me balance that by saying running as a republican in california against a Democratic Inc incumbent, california is deeply blue. Its not surprising she lost. Trump fell eight points. How do you explain that slide in. If you were watching the debate, i dont think he was impressive. He was attacked on all sides. When youre attacked by everybody and its a threehour debate, i think probably it got to him whether he admitted to it or not. Everyone has commented that for 37 minutes he was quiet for the first time in his life. Hes doubling down on the fact that he did not correct that supporter thursday at a town hall for calling president Obama A Muslim and not american and saying we have a problem with muslims in this country. At the same time youve got 29 of americans who actually think the president is a muslim, which is incorrect. Youve got 54 of the Trump Supporters who think that. Does this hurt him in the long run as someone running to be the leader of the free world . Hes backed up a bit on it and for donald trump i think thats all you can expect. Because of the numbers you just cited, this is not going to be a problem for him within the republican universe. Hes got a lot of other problems but that isnt one of them. I want you to listen what ben carson, had to say this morning about muslims in the white house. Dwroup believe that islam is consistent with the constitution . No i do not. I would not advocate that we put a muslim in charge of this nation. I absolutely would not agree with that. Would you ever consider voting for a muslim for congress . Congress is a different story. It depends on who that muslim is and what their policies are. What does that do to ben carson . Again, whats in the republican universe and in the universe of his own supporters, i doubt it hurts him very much. I think its important to note that the constitution of the United States which is often mentioned in these Republican Debate, the constitution for bids are religious tests for office. Thats vital. Thats a very important point. The question is even if it helps you in the primary what does it do to you and general election when people will be pointing back to those comments. Thank you very much. Tomorrow i have to wake up very early to get on the plane with the pope. Here is one of the interest things. Fidel castro theyre from that province. Hes going to be blessing hill. Is that a subtle message to cuban leaders. Open up more, embrace those outside of you. Those with different believes and cultures . Very much so. Thats the message hes going to bring to the United States for a couple of days. Its interesting the line he had at the mass earlier today when he said christianity is not ideology. Service is not ideology. We serve people not ideas. Thats direct shot at the castros and the communism. Its all about ideology. Hes saying no, no, this is about services. This is about moving together. This isnt pursuing someones agenda at the point of a gun. Everyone together. Is it too soon for us to know how this pope has succeeded in in bringing more people back into the fold, back into the church . We know that three million catholic vs left the Catholic Church in the last eight years or so. Is he going to turn that around . In cuba . In the world. There are some signs. Depends where youre talking about. Obviously here in the United States its facing real challenges. Theres some hints and glimmers from the polls. Its going to be a long term project. Much will depend on how well he does during his five, six days here in the United States. Millenials. The data shows young people in this country are not just pulling out of Catholic Church. Theyre pulling away from organized religion in general. Hes speaking to the youth of havana tonight. Do you see this as a pope that resonates much more with young people. Maybe even young people who do not have the same believes as him but see him as more open than past popes. Very much. Thats great point. He does resonate with them. Within the old line, old guard within the Catholic Church itself. Everyone talks about his authentici authenticity. Hes at the top. Thats a message young people want to hear. They dont want an institution or finger wagging. He says we, i, have to walk the walk not just talk the talk. Its been extraordinary to watch and lit be as he comes to the United States. I was not surprised by any of the poll this morning. When you watch what was playing out on social media even halfway through the debate you could see how much Carly Fiorina was doing was resonating with the social audience. She was part of the most talked about social moments of the night. Her response to Donald Trumps comments on her appearance and also when they talked about the merits of their business dealings that was a big part. The interesting thing i saw was i think the social audiences were getting to know her for the first time. If you looked at not only the social but the search traffic that night when she mentioned she lost daughter to drug addiction. The spike in searches for her name and information for her went through the roof on google. You saw that when jeb bushs wife was mentioned. People wanted to know more about the candidates in way they hadnt before. Kate, two things youve said that i find interesting. You think the audience style, this was a much smaller setting. A few hundred people at the Reagan Library versus the fox debate that that hurt donald trump. Youre al concerned about Opposition Research against him. Yes. With the size of the audience. Mr. Trump plays to the 5, 7,000 arena. It charges him up, gets him going. He loves the roar of the crowd. In the Reagan Library its not just there were 4 or 500 people there, it was the nature of the audience. It was a serious audience. Thats not where trump flourishes. What about the research . As we get in further and further and his views are challenged, not just challenged but people are looking at the meat thats hanging on the bones, what does he truly believe in that its going to hurt him. They wont have the kind of information. He hasnt been fully vetted. Theres nothing that stands out. I think the message we want to give him is that the work of the Catholic Church is being done and the work of the Catholic Schools is also being done not only in east harlem but new york city. Kim davis could have another runin with the law over the marriage licenses that ore office is now issuing to samesex couples. Her religion and religious opposition to issuing the licenses has landed her in jail once, as we explain, an attorney for one of davis deputies now claims that shes introduced a new marriage license form that may render them invalid. When kim davis went back to work last week, she said that she wouldnt stop her deputies from issuing marriage licenses to samesex couplings as long as those licenses didnt have her name or title on them. One of her deputy clerk, the only one, his name is brian mason, he says hes taken it a step further. He filed a motion with the judge saying this, saying kim davis came to the office and confiscated all of the original forms and provided a changed form which deletes all mentions of the county, fills in one of the blanks that would be the county with the clerks styling, delete her name and in place of the deputy clerk types in the name of brian mason. Mason, of course, being that clerk. He also says that this takes it one step further than the marriage license alteration that had been approved by the judge, what was happening while she was in jail. Her attorney responding yesterday, not denying that she altered the forms but saying it didnt violate the judges order. Heres what e said. Saying the licenses were not altered to circumvent the courts order nor did kim davis circumvent the order. Hes obviously being very careful hear with his language. Sar r sarah gannon. Lets talk to danny so value les. This continue to test the law, giving this is a ruling recently handed down from the supreme court. You say theres in hard and fast rule about how these licenses have to look. The reason were not getting a lot of guidance and m. Masons filing is exactly. That its a plea for some kind of guidance of what to do. Its because there isnt any. Thats a form of the tenth amendment. Local governments and counties are free to develop their own procedure. And any attorney will tell you even within the same tate, even within the same county theres a wide disparity in formats, stamps and appearances. In kentucky, the county clerk possesses, for example, the power of a notary public. And kentucky law allows her to delegate that power to any one of her deputies.
