Donald trump talking to military veterans in the battleground state of ohio. His speech, which will happen at any moment, on the heels of that fiery address on immigration last night. A combative trump crushing any thoughts that he was softening on his signature threat. On day one, we will begin working on an impenetrable, physical, tall, powerful, beautiful southern border wall, and mexico will pay for the wall. They dont know it yet, but theyre going to pay for the wall. His harsh rhetoric in arizona a jarring change from his softer tone with mexicos president just hours earlier. And that reversal may come at a cost. Some hispanic surrogates now saying after hearing trumps speech last night, they are now reconsidering their support for him. Donald trump is going to address the American Legion conference here, the same room, the same place here in cincinnati, ohio, where Hillary Clinton addressed yesterday. Now, we saw donald trump yesterday being diplomatic in mexico and then last night in arizona, giving that fiery speech on immigration, sounding much like he had in the primary season. Well, today offers an opportunity for him to show how he would be as commander in chief. We often forget with all the rhetoric in these campaigns that this is what the job is about as well, perhaps, first and foremost here. I can tell you, carol, thats what the military veterans here gathered from across the country are wanting to hear, about what each of these leaders would do as commander in chief. Now, donald trump, as hes appeared to military groups across the country, has received a lot of support. He has a lot of backing from military families, but the voters i talk to here, the veterans i talked to here yesterday, many of them say theyre frankly not happy with either choice, donald trump or Hillary Clinton, so he has a challenge here in showing that he is ready to be commander in chief. Now, we do not know, his advisers have not said if he will talk about his trip to mexico or offer any more clarity over who will pay for that wall, but carol, in ohio here, one of the biggest swing states in all of the country, he has some ground to make up. Hillary clinton has been leading him in the polls. Its why he is coming here and also holding a rally after his speech here in cincinnati, where he will, of course, be again confronted with those two sides yesterday, the diplomatic side of donald trump as well as the fiery immigration side of donald trump. We really did see donald trump return to that tough talk that he brought during the primary campaign. He declared no amnesty. He called for the wall, saying mexico will pay for that wall. But notably, donald trump still did not give a definitive answer about what he would do with the undocumented People Living here in the u. S. Who are not criminals. There will be no amnesty. For those here illegally today who are seeking legal status, they will have one route and one route only, to return home and apply for reentry like everybody else under the rules of the new, Legal Immigration system. Reporter the billionaire vowing to swiftly expel millions who have overstayed their visas and undocumented criminals. I am going to create a new special Deportation Task force focused on identifying and quickly removing the most dangerous criminal Illegal Immigrants in america who have evaded justice, just like Hillary Clinton has evaded justice, okay . Maybe theyll be able to deport her. Reporter insisting he will detain and remove anyone caught crossing the border. We are going to end catch and release. Reporter and force other countries to take back their citizens who have been ordered to leave the u. S. We are going to suspend the issuance of visas to anyplace where adequate screening cannot occur. Another reform involves new screening tests for all applicants that include an ideological certification to make sure that those we are admitting to our country share our values and love our people reporter trump also renewing his commitment to build a wall along the u. Reporter but after trump left the country, president pena nieto disputes that, tweeting, from the start of the conversation, i made it clear, mexico will not pay for that wall. And the mexican president is attempting even more cleanup from those conflicting narratives coming out of that meeting, if they did or did not discuss who would pay for the wall. It didnt happen, because, well, the presser was kind of disorganized in the end, but i was very clear, and it is clearly registered that i was emphatic with him in the private meeting and the topics that i pointed out in my message. That, of course, is against what trump is saying, but the Trump Campaign trying to clean up the mixed messages a bit, too. Good morning. So, alfonzo, youre reconsidering your support for mr. Trump. What disappointed you about his speech . Well, look, from the very beginning of mr. Trumps candidacy, i had criticized his tone and some of his proposals on immigration, but when he became the nominee, i thought it was important to give him a Second Chance because of who the alternative is, Hillary Clinton, and im really concerned about her dangerous policies and what her presidency would mean to the nation. Im terrified about Hillary Clinton. And so, i decided to support him and i thought that we could work with him and the campaign to move him to the center on immigration. And the initial response was very good. For the last two months, he said he was not going to deport people without criminal records. He actually said that he was going to treat undocumented immigrants without criminal record in a humane and compassionate way. He said he was going to soften his position. And then we heard yesterday, and i was totally disappointed, not surprised, but disappointed, and likely misled, because he gave the impression and the campaign gave the impression until yesterday morning that he was going to deal with the undocumented in a compassionate way. And in that speech, hes basically saying, we deport you or we selfdeport you. Its even worse than what he initially proposed. So today im saying, not only am i not im considering withdrawing my support, im telling you today, im withdrawing my support from donald trump, and its not only me, many like me think the same way. So, again, you are withdrawing your support from mr. Trump, youve made up your mind . Yes, i have. Are you throwing your support behind Hillary Clinton . Never. Hillary clinton will be terrible for this country. I think her policies in terms of judicial appointments would be terrible. Im really concerned about the future of the Supreme Court, and even on immigration. I mean, people who think that shes committed to immigration reform, shes misleading them just like donald trump misled us. So, look, i dont think we have a good choice right now. I think i have to talk to our coalition of leaders and figure out, you know, what our next step is, but certainly, its not going to be to support trump nor Hillary Clinton. And andre, i think that this is what alfonso is concerned about. You know, we rarely put a face on the people that were talking about when we say undocumented immigrants. Many of them are afraid to go on camera. But i managed to convince one family. The father is undocumented. His children were born in the United States. He works at odd jobs. He makes whatever money he can. He says he pays taxes. Of course, undocumented immigrants dont qualify for welfare or for health care, despite what mr. Trump says. So, i interviewed this family. I cant tell you where they live or their names because the father lives in fear of being deported, but this is what they had to say to me last september. Listen. Once i told mario, if some day they deport me, i will never wherever i go in mexico, i will never say that americans are bad, because no. I had opportunity to make a r l real, real true people. You know, it was no color. My dad, hes the one that sustains us. He works for us so we can get money and food, and if he gets deported, then ill be really sad. Because when he was in jail, i was only a little girl. It really hurt me. [ inaudible ] so, andre, her dad was in jail, actually, for an expired green card, but now he remains in this country and hes trying to keep his family here. And i think that these are the people that alfonso thinks ought to be treated humanely. Your thoughts . I do, too. I come from the state of south carolina, where we have a huge tourism base and a huge agricultural base, so im familiar with these folks. I understand how hard they work and the American Dream that they want. And so, it is a difficult situation on how you deal with it, and im glad that donald trump has gone over to mexico, has shown what i think is true leadership skills as a ceo would do, and hes trying to find Common Ground. Look so, how is he treating that family humanely . You know, again, first and foremost, we have to look out for the interests of the United States. A wall needs to be built. There has to be some type of program where people know where their borders are. Humanely, i dont know what the exact answer is, but to try to find a way where that individual can come back, still be a citizen here or go through a channel that will make him or her a citizen but you understand, if that man has to leave the country, apply for citizenship and wait in line to come back, hes not ever coming back to the United States. Well, hopefully, he will come back, but hopefully, well do something, no matter what, to make it easier for people that want to go through the legal channels to become a citizen. Its far too difficult. Weve made it far too easy for folks that do it the illegal way, but weve made it far too difficult for people trying to do it the right way. Im sorry, alfonso. Let me step in, because donald trump have the very beginning had even said that people will leave the country and then the good people, presumably those without criminal record, would be able to come back quickly. He said it here on cnn. And he said it several times. But in his speech yesterday, hes not even saying that. Theyre going to leave the country, selfdeport or be removed, and theres no guarantee that they will return. So andrew, i feel what youre saying, but thats very different from what mr. Trump was saying last night i mean, that speech was a restrictionist speech. And i just think hes embraced Jeff Sessions and people like ann coulter and forgotten about building a coalition to win this election. Im so sorry, but i just cant be part of that. Well, and i understand your concerns. I hope that hell find a way to bring you back into the fold, alfonso, because he needs your help. And clearly, we want to send a message that we appreciate hardworking people that want to come to this country. Look, people that are willing to give themselves and be a part of the society, im all for all those people coming here. Its the ones that dont want to assimilate, that dont want to follow the law, that dont want to pay taxes that want to be a drain and not an asset to our communities, we want those type of people, so i hope that donald trump and you will be able to find Common Ground to move this country forward. On new day this morning, the former president of mexico, vicente fox, slammed trumps visit, calling him nothing more than a liar. For trump, hes just showing himself as he is, a liar. He is a liar. He is lying to u. S. Supporters, to u. S. Followers, and he came to mexico to lie to mexican people. John is in mexico city with more. Reporter good morning, carol. Many mexicans here will say that Donald Trumps speech last night, the hardline speech on immigration which he delivered in phoenix, arizona, simply confirms what they believed all along, that his diplomatic outreach here to the president of mexico is nothing more than a pr stunt. They say it was all intended for donald trump to polish his image, to make him look like a statesman. And people here are very angry not only that their president allowed it to happen but, in fact, that Enrique Pena Nieto invited donald trump here in the first place. For his part, president pena nieto, he has actually gone on latenight television here and he did say that many of trumps policies are a threat to mexicos future, but he did modify that by saying, at least by sitting down and meeting with donald trump one on one, hes managed to get donald trump to change his position, at least a little. Translator some of the positions, yes, represent a threat to mexicos future, and i would like to note in a very timely manner that there was a change in his tone regarding the vision he had over several topics. He had talked about canceling the free trade agreement. Now he talks about improving, updating the free trade agreement. Reporter and so, carol, here we are now with the morning newspapers, despite what the president was saying. This is one paper that says ill build the wall, says trump, hes a threat, says pena nieto. Forgive my terrible spanish. Pena tells trump we deserve respect and the big one here mexicans are aggrieved. It wasnt 24 hours ago the two leaders standing at the podiums at the president ial palace talking about respect for each other and now were back to hes a threat, im going to build a wall. Many shared goals, but i want to begin by discussing one goal that i know is so important to you, promoting American Pride and patriotism in americas schools. Very important. In a trump administration, i plan to work directly with the American Legion to uphold our common values and to help ensure they are ought to americas children. And we will ensure that they have the best medical care in the world, both in service and when they return home as civilians. That will require a total reform of the veterans administration. Its in very sad shape. I deal with veterans all the time. We have tremendous veteran support. And the stories i hear are so sad. Were not going to have that anymore. Ive laid out a tenstep va reform plan that you can review on my website. Here are the basics. I will appoint a secretary of Veterans Affairs whose personal mission will be to clean up the va. The secretarys sole mandate will be to serve our veterans, not bureaucrats, not politici s politicians, but our great veterans. Im going to use every Lawful Authority to remove and discipline anyone who fails our veterans or breaches the public trust, which is what it is. Its a public trust. I will appoint a commission to investigate all the wrongdoing at the va, and there is plenty, and then present those findings to congress as the basis for reforming the entire system. Were going to get you fantastic service. Its going to happen. Believe me. The Veterans Health system will remain a public system, because it is, after all, a public trust. But never again will we allow any veteran to suffer or die waiting for care. People are not going to die waiting on line to see a doctor. Its not going to happen. The veterans will be in total control. We are going to uphold the laws of the nation and defend our sovereignty and security, and we are going to defend our border. I just came back from a wonderful meeting with the president of mexico, where i expressed my deep respect for the people of his country and for the tremendous contributions of mexican americans in our country, and they have made tremendous contributions. Many are in our armed services. You know how good they are. I want to again thank him for his gracious hospitality and express my belief that we can Work Together to accomplish great things for both countries. Thats mexico and the United States. We agreed in the meeting on the need to stop the illegal flow of guns, drugs, cash and people across the border and to take out the cartels. We will also be appointing justices of the United States Supreme Court who you will be very proud, you will be extremely proud when we name them. Youve already seen some of the people and the kind of people that we want. Justice scalia passed away recently, serves as an absolute perfect focal point. He is the kind of person we want on the United States Supreme Court. I will nominate men and women to the court who meet the High Standard of Justice Scalia and judges who have the wisdom and integrity to follow the law and just not make it up any way they want to make it up. Above all, these next four years i will be uncompromising in the defense of the United States and our friends and our good allies. We are going to end the era of nationbuilding and create a new Foreign Policy joined by our partners in the middle east that is focused on destroying isis and radical islamic terrorism. We will extend the hand of friendship to any nation that will work with us in good faith on this vital mission. And we want this mission to be accomplished quickly. At the same time, we will change our immigration screening procedures to help keep terrorists and extremists out of our country. We have enough problems. Our country has enough problems. We dont need that one. And that includes stopping the influx of syrian refugees. Incredibly, my opponent, Hillary Clinton, wants a 550 increase in refugees from that region. Hard to believe. I, on the other hand, want to build a safe zone overseas and use the money saved to invest in america. We do not want to let anyone in our country who doesnt support our values and who is not capable of loving our people. Well, this is a candidate who has spent the totality of his campaign really trashing america writ large, and i have to imagine that for veterans theres something a bit off in his messaging this morning. I do know that in ohio weve seen one, i think perhaps more, op eds written by veterans saying they cannot support him, theyre disavowing him. But vicente fox, the former mexican president was on new day this morning talking about mr. Trumps visit to mexico, and you know, the wall came up. And mr. Trump said he did not mention who would pay for the wall during the meeting with the mexican president. The mexican president tweeted back, i told mr. Trump in no Uncertain Terms i would not pay for that wall. I want you to listen to what the former president of mexico, vicente fox, said on new day this morning. We are not going to pay for that f im going to be moderate today for us, f wall. Its a crazy idea, and i dont know why u. S. Is saying these things. Taxpayers are accept they will pay for the wall. They dont have an alternative. That wall is built, no way mexico will pay for it. Okay, so, douglas, just from a historical perspective, is this kind of thing normal after a president ial candidate sits down with a world leader . No, but Donald Trumps a unique kind of candidate. I mean, im still baffled by the mexican president invited donald trump to his country. Hes just going to have nothing but a rain of havoc on him for having him come there. I think trump had an advantage by being able to show himself in a diplomatic situation and seemed to be so tame and proper. Yes, he came to phoenix and gave a, you know, a raw meat speech on immigration to his supporters, but Donald Trumps dominating this news cycle right now, including this speech to veterans where hes picked up on this issue. Weve just heard him say that the pledge of allegiance, you know, should be mandatory. And i have a feeling hes going to be picking up on that coming up in coming days and forcing Hillary Clinton to say do you think it should be manndatory o not. So, donald trump is doing a lot of interesting chess moves this week, and its all about momentum and owning every days news cycle. And scottie, i talked to a former trump supporter, alfonso aguilar. He had thrown his support behind mr. Trump, but when he heard mr. Trumps speech in arizona and his hardline stance on undocumented immigrants, hes withdrawn his support. So is there a danger that mr. Trump is taking things too far yet again . Well, thats a shame, and i hope we can be able to bring him back into the fold. But i also want to point out that president fox earlier in may, he actually invited mr. Trump. He said i think mr. Trump needs to come to mexico. He made the same exact invitation, i want him to come to mexico and meet with our government, meet with our people. So for president fox to be making these pr rounds right now is interesting considering he offered the same invitation the mexican president did. And im hoping the hispanics who have been supporting mr. Trump, they have the same feelings as the rest of americans. Its americas family first. Right now we have 130 billion being taken on for the middle class for Illegal Immigrants that are here in the United States. We cannot take that burden anymore. And i would hope those american hispanics, latino americans would go, listen, their families are actually just as important as all other American Families and realize they need to be put first, which is what mr. Trumps plan is. So, tracy, im sure this will come up many times throughout the day, that donald trump will insist that Hillary Clinton should go to mexico. Hes each said that she lacks the stamina to do that. So, should Hillary Clinton go . The former secretary of state certainly doesnt need tips from donald trump. And this whole thing, this whole episode yesterday with the softening followed by the speech, the red meat, its all so theres a whiplash factor to it, and its a good reminder for so many voters that this is not a typical candidate. What was supposed to happen on saturday was a launch from space x, falcon 9 was supposed to take a satellite, communications satellite, up into the sky and release it. This is space xs launch area here. So all of a sudden, about 20 minutes ago, there was a large explosion. Youre hoping if this truly is an explosion of the rocket, that this was part of a test fire, so no one would be there in the area because it was going to be a test fire. A failed test fire, i get it. But at least that would have everyone out of the way. Heres the ground look at it right now. This is where the space x rocket would have been. We see no indication at all its even there. A hurricane or storm would have to have a very steep curve in the gulf to come thisw way and avoid hitting any land before hitting this region. The governor saying its critical for everyone who lives in this area to prepare for the storm. I spoke to a Business Owner. He told me about ten years ago there was a storm that directly hit the panhandle and that it brought up the water so high in the marina not far from here that boats actually ended up stranded in neighborhoods. Were not expecting that level of flooding necessarily for this area but its certainly possible. That say Business Owner told me that he was planning to stay open the whole day. He said he had sandbags and other provisions. That he wanted to stay open. Obviously the governor and local officials are warning everyone to stay home. Even if its just a category 1 storm, it is still especially strong. Its interesting to see some people like him are not necessarily getting ready. I talked to one lady who was Walking Around earlier with her camera saying she was just here to take pictures, she wasnt really that worried. Others have come out and secured their boats, tried to move them to Higher Ground so they could avoid scenarios like the one i just mentioned. Were expecting the storm to hit at 1 00 a.
