It only seemed to work well in this one woman and they think the reason might be is they had antibodies to measles but for this woman, it is pretty amazing. So she was the one success story. People did get really sick. One patient had a headache so bad that he needed morphine. They were shortlived. And there were no long term effects it seems. Thats what is really important. Encouraging. And thats what eventually led them to the investigation and arrest after they found the suv that they saw the night of the double murder they found it in bristol, connecticut, so it started to come together. It is just an it means that a grand jury heard evidence and a majority, 12 of them said you know what . There is enough evidence it depends on what they have. Mad as hell about charges first raised by cnn of dual wait lists. Evidence that 40 veterans may have perished awaiting schedule ing the ig is going to get to the bottom of that. And right next to it another home that burned down and you see firefighters continuing to keep an eye on the hot spots. To give you an idea in terms of the unpredictable nature of the fire. You can see this Office Building behind me. You can see the flames taken up. We thought we had that fire completely out. And flames are kicking up. The story right now clearly is the flames in san marcos. But people in carlsbad losing homes as well. You have been in california here. As we talk about the different brush and wild fires and now nine different ones have popped up. Tell me about the terrain there. This year you are dealing with record Drought Conditions. This is a relatively new home. This was a dream home for a couple. Their daughter just got married here last week. In terms overall situation, everywhere you go it seems like youre facing a drought. Were seeing a lack of basic water. This is an unprecedented situation. All of these fires again, nine fires breaking out basically within a span of 24 hours. Stay with me. What i can tell you is that governor jerry brown has declared a state of emergency for San Diego County and the city of san marcos will be receiving federal and state support. No injuries have been reported and based on current assessment, there has been approximately one home destroyed in san marcos and two homes destroyed in the neighboring area. Okay. We have established Evacuation Centers and crews are really working around the clock to make so establish that safety but we still do not have an estimate on where that might be. Its just falling apart. They are trying to get in the big safe over there but they cant get into that. Where were you when the fire broke out . How did you know that your home had caught fire . He said i think i seen on the news that your house is on fire and i said no its not. Then my daughter called and of course we couldnt get in here until 5 30. When we got here my son was really involved in trying to catch his dog. Kept saying wheres rocky, wheres rocky. They jumped the fence and went all the way to the back and he was still alive. They pull from east to west bringing very, very dry hot air from the desert. You also have this down sloping off of the mountains and pushing to the west. That is fuelling these fires. It brings the humidity levels into the dingle digits. These winds should start to flip a little bit and we should get more of an on shore breeze. Thats air coming in off of the ocean. She and her family have been walking through trying to find pictures, mo men toes. Can you just walk me through it . Its just a chart. This is the garage. Its tough to really discern. You can see, for example, these are some of the things that they have been able to see. A hat that looks like some tools and pottery over here. They tried to salvage, we showed you. What a mess. You can see over here. Firefighters continuing to do some mop up. You never know, the flames could kick up. Obviously they feel confident that they have gotten the hot spots out of the areas. We are told 22 residences. Four Single Family homes and 18 apartments in one building. So basically a condominium building that was levelled. Four Single Family homes. Right now as we have been showing, the concern is just east of here in san marcos. If you look at the plume of smoke and flames, there is a huge concern that youre going to have a whole lot of homes in that area going up in flames. It is getting much windier here on the ground. That is a terrible mix when you add in the hot and dry conditions that we have been experiencing here. They said today it might be the hottest day of the week. They were expecting to see triple digit temperatures. Then you throw in the wind and it is a recipe for disaster. Our hearts go out to people in san diego. She has lived in san diego for 42 years and the notion of nine different fires burning is something she has never heard of or experienced. Back after this. That is priority number one now for the state of california here as 800 acres now have been scorched. One home is gone and that is the active situation. You see these firefighters here in this one neighborhood. Jim paxon is on the phone with me. He worked with the u. S. Forest service, jim, for, what, 30plus years. So you know these conditions all too well. I know youre driving but let me just tell you, the these flames are almost swirling in this unreal sort of erie manner. How do you, as a firefighter, attack these flames from the ground . Well, they are prepared and prepositioned so that any ignition, they will put all of their resources on it, all of the engines, available tankers. Theyve got a lot of fire resources in california. They are just trying to hit these fires when they are small and not allow them to grow and get big but it is so hot, record temperatures, so dry, less than a third of normal moisture last winter and those santa ana winds are really difficult because they just make the fire get out of the firefighters reach. Isnt the problem with the santa ana winds, these dry winds coming in from the desert just when these firefighters may think one fire is out and there are fires all over this hillside as we can see in this one picture on the left hand side of your screen. I mean, in an instant they can just flare back up, cant they . Well, yeah. They are doing 100 mopup, which means they are extinguishing everything that they can see. But an ember can be under the dirt or in a stump and the wind will cause it to glow and fan and then jump and off they go again. So firefighters work under extremely dry, hot, and then the santa an ma wind conditions. Difficult may be an understatement as we look at this. We thank you for your 30plus years in wishing these firefighters the best and just being safe here as they are fighting this in Southern California and the san diego area. Jim paxson, thank you.
