Moderating on the muslim ban and will soften it some more. Were joined by National Correspondent jason carroll. This was an unusual and frank interview. And really insightful. That name Paul Manafort is not going to ring a bell to many, but hes the Campaign Chairman. When he speaks, youre going to listen. He spoke about a number of issues, very, very interesting. Lets start with the ban on muslims. As we know, donald trump has been very, very clear and many people criticize him for his position on that temporary ban on muslims entering the United States. Manafort weighing in on that basically saying, he operates by starting the conversation at the outer edges, then brings it back towards the middle within his comfort zone. Hell soften it some more. So basically saying that hes already starting to moderate his position on that ban on muslims. A number of other issues he talked about too, the issue of taxes. As we all know, many people have been calling for donald trump to release his federal income tax returns. Manafort saying probably not going to happen, at least not anytime soon. Hes saying the only people who basically want him to do that are the people who arent out there supporting him. Hes saying his supporters arent really interested in that so why should he . Another point, the vp. Who could that be . I can tell you who it probably wont be. Paul manafort saying it in all likelihood will not be a woman, not a person of color. Why . Because it would look like theyre pandering to people. But in terms of who it would be, he said that clearly someone who is going to be experienced to do the part of the job that trump does not want to do. Manafort also saying they have a long list of potential candidates, but they all have a lot of problems. A lot of insight here in that Huffington Post article. They all have a lot of problems. We need to learn a lot more about what he meant by some of those comments because potentially very, very revealing. Whats also interesting about this, were getting more information from the Campaign Chairman than were getting from the candidate himself. Trump has been a little bit lean on some of his specifics in terms of his points of view and where he stands in some areas. This was more insight than weve gotten in quite some time. It will also be fascinating because Paul Manafort and donald trump in the past week have shown theyre not necessarily on the same page with regard to Paul Manafort telling republicans dont worry, we wont hold a grudge if you need to distance yourselves. The next day donald trump slamming a very popular republican governor. So well see if donald trump repeats those points. Theres a little worry here from some of Donald Trumps supporters because you dont want to see yourself governmentening on positions because thats just going to feed into some of the people who say this is not a man who is a true conservative, not very clear about where he stands, so theyre going to have to be careful Going Forward in terms of that as well. Jason carroll, thank you very, very much. A political body blow delivered from halfway around the world. The sitting u. S. President slamming his potential successor on foreign soil. I want you to look at president obama talking about how World Leaders are reacting to Donald Trumps political rise. I think its fair to say that they are surprised by the republican nominee. They are not sure how seriously to take some of his pronouncemen pronouncements, but theyre rattled by it, and for good reason. President obama said that earlier in japan at the g7 summit. He also said these were his words, many of trumps ideas show ignorance of World Affairs or a cavalier attitude or interested in getting headlines, again these are the president s words, instead of actually thinking through what is required to keep america safe. Lets talk more about this with cnn chief National Security correspondent jim sciutto joining us here. Some important context, not just hearing the president take on trump so directly, but its also where he was and who he was with when he was making these remarks. No question. And listen, its a fact. World leaders are. Im oshl not tabviously not tale level of leaders the president is but i speak with diplomats overseas and they are rattled by the positions they hear coming from the republican nominee and also the tone and the substance. You speak to asian officials and when donald trump says i want to give Nuclear Weapons to south korea and japan and upset a decades long Nuclear Balance there, they wonder is that a serious proposition . Is that likely to happen if he is elected president of the United States . You talk to officials, nato officials, for instance, and when they hear donald trump say, i can be pals with Vladimir Putin while nato is in the midst of a military buildup to counter russian what they say is Russian Military aggression in eastern europe, they clearly listen. Their ears perk up. These are substantive positions that when a putative u. S. President ial nominee says them, people notice. They do notice. Theres a fascination with this election that i have never seen before from overseas. Look, you have a show on Cnn International because theres so much interest overseas, and just like you, jim, you hear from people in the diplomatic community, and they have questions. They want to know, is this real . Or whats going to happen . Or how is this being received . They will always ask that question, the political question, what are his chances . Im sure you get asked that when you travel as well. Its interesting. I have been overseas for a lot of u. S. Elections, and you guys know this, you have traveled overseas. Theres a kind of critical view you will hear overseas. Your elections are crazy, your politicians are crazy, all this sort of stuff. Theres this deep down, but its not all going to blow up, is it . Theres a desire and interest in having the u. S. Be a stable place. Superiority and inferiority complex all wrapped in one. Were secure and insecure. Thats just the way we are. What about looking at it from the other side. If youre a republican looking at president obama who you disagree with on everything, looking at his comments in the g7 summit that politics is supposed to remain at the waters edge. Although that ship sailed 100 years ago to some degree. To be honest, he is a democratic president , sitting democratic president who very soon is going to be campaigning pretty aggressive for Hillary Clinton if it is here but not necessarily there. I suppose thats a rule that at least in my experience that went out the window a long time ago. Even on issues sensitive issues of National Security. You have folks taking potshots and the old rule used to be were all americans overseas. It was unusual to hear a president who has been carefully on how he weighs in on the election, especially in japan. Great to see you. Turmoil on the inside. Donald trumps political director jumps ship just six weeks after joining the campaign. Whats the nature of the turf war going on inside . And paul ryan and donald trump, theyve talked on the phone, but the House Speaker still has not offered an endorsement, so what did they talk about then . Any minute were going to hear from speaker ryan himself. Well bring it to you live. Be right back. But i really love it. Im on the move all day long. And sometimes, i just dont eat the way i should. So i drink boost® to get the nutrition that im missing. Along came a burglar who broke into her home and ransacked the place making off with several valuable tuffets. Fortunately geico had recently helped her with homeowners insurance. She got full replacement on her tuffets. The burglar was later captured when he was spotted with whey on his face. Call geico and see how much you could save on homeowners insurance. So do we have an actual debate or just a good late night joke or both . Bernie sanders says game on to Donald Trumps proposal for a debate ahead of the california primary. That would be a debate between Bernie Sanders and donald trump. So long donald trump says as long as sanders is willing to give money to charity. So what do we do with this, folks . Lets discuss it. Margaret hoover is here, she worked with george w. Bush white house and two republican president ial campaigns, edward espinosa, official for governor bill richson, angela right, aryn williams. Its great to have you. So, ryan, theres this back and forth of a debate maybe. It sounds like a joke. It sounds absolutely silly, but john said it, in this election anything is possible. What do you think the chances are . Well, i dont know. I think it would be a very highly rated debate. Its certainly something that senator sanders would want to do. It would help his campaign which is now struggling in the final stages of the democratic primary process. I dont think its a good move for trump. Trump is the republican nominee for president. Hes going to face off against Hillary Clinton. His focus should be solely on Hillary Clinton and debating Bernie Sanders is really just kind of punching downward and not helping him in the general election matchup. I mean, the whole notion seems a little ridiculous, but admit it, margaret, you first saw and then said, wait, it could really happen. Not only could it really happen, the late and great william f. Buckley, founder of the modern american conservatism and the movement often said the best and most substantive debates he ever had was with people where there was less space between the opposition. So when you have a Bernie Sanders and a donald trump who are actually both, you know, isolationists effectively in this race. They are closer together on some of their trade policies and some of their economic policies than maybe with Hillary Clinton, maybe you would actually get into the nuances of some real substance finally in this political cycle. Maybe. But angela, Hillary Clinton wakes up, reads this headline and says what . She says, maybe i should have debated bernie . I think the reality of this is to margarets point, although i disagree slightly, i think this is an opportunity for Bernie Sanders to show just how much of a team player he is. At first i was like, oh, no, you know, this might not be good for the hillary campaign, but i think it could be really good. Bernie sanders has demonstrated that he can hit hard, and hes hit trump hard already. I think him going on stage with donald trump saying there is a whole lot of light between our two positions, whether theyre isolationists or not or theyre ginning up the ant antiestablishment or not doesnt really matter, theres a whole lot of difference in their position and he can show donald trump what it means to get bullied on stage and he wags that finger. For the record, i dont think its going to happen. I say no you that i 75 25 . 80 20 . 90 10. Im going to be bullish. I say 50 50. Im with you kate. 50 50, you cant be wrong. Thats not fair. We just heard from jim sciutto explaining what president obama said about donald trump, going after the presumptive nominee on foreign soil, essentially calling donald Trump Ignorant and saying that foreign leaders are rattled. What do you make of what the president said clearly taking politics past the waters edge . You know, i dont think where he says it has any as much bearing as what he says. If you look at anybody who knows this subject and knows Foreign Affairs and knows leadership better than anyone right now, its the guy who is occupying the white house, whether thats a democrat or a republican, that is somebody who has gone through all of these things and knows what is in store for that person. Donald trump has got a lot of bluster, and he says a lot of things that, frankly, are careless, and hes going to have to own up to those not only in the general election but if he gets forbid, hes going to have to own up to them on the worlds stage and thats something we should be talking about. The thing you disagree with vehemently are the reasons some of the reasons why his supporters why he is the Presumptive Republican nominee. He is the opposite of obama when it comes to things like National Security and Foreign Policy. So, ryan, obama taking him on in the g 7 summit, do you it will help trump . It will rally trump supporters. Anytime donald trump engaging with the president , it helps him. It makes him look like hes on the same level as the president of the United States. I think its a breach of protocol to engage in politicking overseas. Thats something that candidates and president s have avoided for years, to leave politics at the waters edge and i think its unusual that he did that but i think it helps trump rally his base, it helps get him in the conversation on Foreign Policy today so its a net benefit to donald trump. I want to ask you about the continued dustup about donald trump and Susana Martinez and how so much of the republican establishment has really rallied to the governors side. Scott walker, marco rubio, the rga, the republican governors association, which she leads, all saying donald trump went into the new mexico and criticized the sitting republican governor. It seems like its creating a rift that may not go away. It didnt create a rift, john. This is just a further exposure of the continuing rift of republicans who view themselves as frankly fundamentally and philosophically in a different place where donald trump is and wonder if they can ever support him as the republican nominee. This is one more episode in the i prefer the victims of war criminals that dont get caught. Or i prefer the veterans right, prisoners of war. This is one in a long chain of really talk about breach of protocol, breaches of protocol on behalf of a presumptive nominee, a guy who is supposed to be uniting the party right now. I dont know if the paul ryans and Susana Martinezs and the john mccains are ever going to unify behind donald trump. At the very least it made paul ryans consideration of endorsement or the timing a little more complicated that that came out when he did. Maybe not. Maybe well hear from paul ryan today. Actually, we will. Thanks, guys. Joining us now, hailey baumgartner, senior president september tiff for the trump campaign. Thanks so much for being with us. Since we have you here, lets clear this up once and for all. Is there going to be a donald trump Bernie Sanders debate . I wish i could tell you. Im not a political fortune tell teller, so i cant answer that, unfortunately. Was donald trump serious when he said he would do it . I cant speculate on mr. Trumps why cant you speculate. Youre a senior press representative. Only mr. Trump speaks for mr. Trump. You represent the campaign. Is the Campaign Making plans for a debate . Not that im aware of, no. Okay. No plans for a debate that youre aware of. I want to ask you about comments made by the Campaign Chairman, Paul Manafort. Again, you are here as a representative from the trump campaign. He told the Huffington Post about the muslim ban, the proposed muslim ban donald trump made last december. He said hes going to bring it back towards the middle within his comfort zone. Hell soften it some more. My question to you is when it comes to the muslim ban, where is the middle . Well, i think that, you know, now that clearly mr. Trump has sealed in the nomination as it just broke in the press, we will be focusing on developing those policies more specifically moving forward into the process throughout the campaign. What does a more moderate muslim ban look like . Im not sure honestly. I cant answer that at this point. I think that thats something well sit down and develop more specifically as well as the other issues that mr. Trump looks forward to addressing and well be talking about those more specifically on the campaign trail moving forward, including defeating isis, revitalizing our economy, creating jobs, all the things that mr. Trump will do as the president of the United States. Lets delve further into some of the statements made by the trump Campaign Chairman, Paul Manafort. He was talking about the Vice President ial selection process. He said he needs trump needs an experienced person who can do the part of the job he doesnt want to do. So our question is, what part of the job of being president doesnt donald trump want to do . Well, i think that youre kind of taking that out of context. I dont think theres any part of the job that mr. Trump doesnt want to do as president of the United States and as commander in chief. I think that what that statement meant was that he wants to be make sure that the pick is somebody that will complement the strengths needed in order to pass legislation, work with congress. You know, mr. Trump is not a professional politician. You know, he is an incredibly successful businessman as he has proven, so i think that thats what those remarks were meant to infer. Well, on the pick, Paul Manafort did say that you probably wont be picking a woman or a minority as a running mate because that would be viewed as pandering. Is there so is there not a qualified woman or minority out there to be a running mate . You know what . Im not part of that process. Corey lewandowski is managing the what did Paul Manafort mean . I cant speak for paul. I wasnt there. I have not had a conversation with him about it. I cant speculate on what someone meant by what they said. That would be totally unfair. Again, you represent the donald trump campaign. I do represent the donald trump campaign. Youre 100 correct. However, i cannot speculate based off of another person who works for the campaigns remarks and what they meant by those. Only they can clarify what was specifically meant by what they said. Lets ask you then as a longterm republican and a woman, donald trump Paul Manafort said theyre not going to pick a minority or a woman because it will be seen as pandering. Was the selection of sarah palin as running mate in 2008, was that pandering . Im sorry, could you say that again . It broke up a little bit. Paul manafort said donald trump is unlikely to pick either a woman or minority as Vice President because it would be seen as pandering. My question to you just as a human, not necessarily representative for the trump campaign, was the selection of sarah palin in 2008, was that pandering . I dont think thats pandering. I mean, sarah palin connects with the american people. She was named as the most influential republican woman recently by news max. So absolutely not. I mean, theres nothing that a woman cant do that a man can do better. So i think its just based on skill set and who is best for the job, and, you know, mr. Trump has proven that in his hiring of women in his many businesses, you know, in major real estate businesses back in the times when that wasnt popular. Is there are there women out there you think are qualified to be Donald Trumps running mate because Paul Manafort thinks it would be viewed as pandering, but do you think there is a qualified woman out there . Im sure there are many qualified women out there, but im not part of the process that is something Corey Lewandowski is heading up. Theres many qualified men and women to be Vice President of the United States. Its not based on gender. You do not think it would be pandering to pick a woman or minority . I do not think that that has anything to even do with it. As im saying, to pick the proper Vice President ial candidate, its based on qualifications and performance, and who can best complement the strengths that mr. Trump already brings to the table, which is being an incredibly successful businessman globally and hes a political outsider. So i think those are the biggest determining factors. Healy baumgardner, thanks so much for being with us. Thanks for having me. So in politics insults are nothing new or between us for that matter, but Donald Trumps latest target has some people scratching their heads. Up next, were going to ask the chief strategist of the rnc about donald trump slamming one of the most popular republican governors in the country, new mexicos nevada. Any minute now as well, well hear from House Speaker paul ryan. Is he any closer to endorsing donald trump . You can be sure that question is likely to come his way this morning. Well be right back. Allbeef, karen . H yeah, theyre hebrew national. But unlike yours, theyre also kosher. Only certain cuts of kosher beef meet their strict standards. Theyre all ruined. Help yourself oh no, we couldn. Okay thanks, hebrew national. A hot dog you can trust. Chief strategist of the rnc likely to come his way this chief strategist of the rnc likely to come his way this i accept im not 22 i accept i do a shorter set these days. I even accept i have a higher risk of stroke due to afib, a type of irregular heartbeat not caused by a heart valve problem. But i wont play anything less than my best. So if theres Something Better than warfarin, im going for it. Eliquis. Eliquis reduced the risk of stroke better than warfarin, plus it had significantly less major bleeding than warfarin. Eliquis had both. Thats what i wanted to hear. Dont stop taking eliquis unless your doctor tells you to, as stopping increases your risk of having a stroke. Eliquis can cause serious and in rare cases fatal bleeding. Dont take eliquis if you have an artificial heart valve or abnormal bleeding. While taking eliquis, you may bruise more easily. And it may take longer than usual for any bleeding to stop. Seek immediate medical care for sudden signs of bleeding, like unusual bruising. Eliquis may increase your bleeding risk if you take certain medicines. Tell your doctor about all planned medical or dental procedures. I accept i dont play quite like i used to. But im still bringing my best. And going for eliquis. Reduced risk of stroke plus less major bleeding. Ask your doctor if switching to eliquis is right for you. Breaking news from capitol hill. The house representatives failing to pass its annual spending bill because of an amendment involving a controversy about lgbt protections. What happened . Reporter what weve seen is the house floor sort of become a forum for this Larger National fight over lgbt rights. Democrats last week tried to push forward an amendment that would protect federal workers from being fired or discriminated against based on their Sexual Orientation or gender identity. Now, at that time that vote failed because a number of republicans were convinced to switch their votes on the house floor and effectively kill that amendment. Now, last night democrat sean maloney, the author of the amendment, offered this again to another spending bill, made some small modifications and it got adopted. Republicans in response pushed forward their own plan to reaffirm federal support for that North Carolina bathroom law that prohibits transgender folks from using bathrooms of their choice. Both of those got included into the annual spending bill. What we saw was a final passage vote go down very, very hard. This spending bill went down in the senate more than im sorry, in the house, and more than 300 house members voted against it throwing the annual spending process into disarray. The leadership, republican leadership, said this is part of paul ryans commitment to allow for votes of all kinds, open up the floor process, and let people let the house express its will but it really goes to show its also a big problem and a big challenge for paul ryan Going Forward as they try to, you know, do the basic job of governance which is funding the government and dealing with just Major National issues like this one. Well hear what paul ryan has to say. One other thing, congress is leaving for the week for memorial day recess. They have not resolved the issue of zika funding. Th another challenge for leaders Going Forward. Thank you so much, manu. Lets get back to the president ial campaign right now. Joining us is chief strategist and Communications Director for the Republican National committee, mr. Sean spicer. Sean, thank you very much you look very nervous to be on with us today or unhappy. I cant tell which. Its anticipation more than anything. No, no. Look, after yesterday i had six root canals a couple years back, i felt better in the dentist chair than i think fallon felt better than when he was on cnn having to explain the ig report and spin it. You got there is quickly. I look more comfortable after six root canals than he looked comfortable on cnn, ill tell you that. Were putting you back in the dentist chairman right now. Sean spicer, do you think Susana Martinez is a good governor . I do. We ask because the Presumptive Republican nominee doesnt think so. Listen, sean. We have to get your governor to get going. Shes got to do a better job, okay . So what do you say to donald trump . Well, i think they have some differences that need to be continued to be resolved, but i think as republicans, as a party at least, were very proud that we elected the first latina governor as a party, the first female governor in new mexico, and shes done a phenomenal job. I think they have some policy differences they have to spend some more time talking about, the concerns that they have does this help party unity . Huh . Hey, look, when you compare the two parties, look, we have some folks that want to get to know our presumptive nominee a little bit better. We understand that, but if you compare the weeks, and lets hang on. I want to hang on. No, no, no. Let me just answer the question. And the answer is that yesterday you have the ig of the state department that was appointed by barack obama come down very heavily against Hillary Clinton. Youve got top hillary surrogate Governor Terry mcauliffe joining her under fbi investigation. Youve got calls from Democratic Senators to have Debbie Wasserman schultz step down as the dnc chair. You have Bernie Sanders supporting the primary opponent to Debbie Wasserman schultz. When it comes to comparing where the two parties are, when it comes it comparing the weeks we have, we have some differences that have to get resolved but i will take where our party is seven days a week over where their party is. If a democrat went into new mexico and said what donald trump said about the sitting governor of that state, you would respond differently, no . How . You would not defend the governor more than that . He said shes done a bad job i just did. No, no. But you asked hold on, no. What are you you asked me a question. I said that shes doing a great job. We have a lot of respect for her. I think that shes as a party were very proud of the fact that we that the first latina governor in the United States was Susana Martinez, a republican. I think shes got an amazing life story. Shes done a lot of great work in new mexico. How much more defending do you want me to do of her . I do think that they have some differences between the two, but i think as a party were very proud of governor martinez. Were very proud its a republican latina that was elected first. Were very proud that the first woman that new mexico elected was a republican. I dont know how much more defending of her i can possibly do. That was more. Thanks. That was more. Appreciate that. Paul manafort, Donald TrumpsCampaign Chairman, he did an interview with the Huffington Post. Very interesting interview. One of the things that was quite interesting was what he said about their potential running mate or what they wont have as their potential running mate. Probably wont choose a woman or a minority as a running mate because that would be viewed as pandering i think. Do you think that would be viewed as pandering . No. Well, i think that people are twisting what his words were. His point is donald trump is not out to pander. Hes out to make this country better. Hes out to solve the problems and what you see on the other side is literally a pandering, the way that theyre lining up their vp. Theyre like what does hillary need more of and who fits the bill. What donald trump has made very clear is he wants a partner who can be president on day one should something happen. Somebody who understands how to get things done in washington i wasnt taking Paul Manafort out of context. I was reading his words though. His point though was that trumps not going to pander when it comes to his pick, which is in direct is the opposite of what Hillary Clinton is talking about on their side which is theyre trying to figure out what void Hillary Clinton has the biggest area to fill, whether its with minority groups, whether shes got to fill something on the left by appointing a far Left Progressive like Bernie Sanders or elizabeth warren, but they keep talking about what they need to fix on their side. I think two Paul Manafort was making very clear is that trump needs a partner who can be president day one should something happen, but more importantly somebody who can be a partner to help get things done in washington. Sean, are there women or minorities out there who could fit that bill in your mind . Absolutely. I just talked about one. I know that there are still differences between the two, but i dont think thats going to happen though. I think thats an unlikely match. But im saying but youre asking me a question. I think when you look at the Republican Party in terms of the level of elected officials that represent the young, new, fresh ideas that advocate change, that want to make a difference in america, its the Republican Party thats the voice of young, optimistic leaders, whether its governors or in the house or the senate. Its the democrats who represent old school now, that was not our fault. That was a technical difficulty. I dont think it was seans fault either, in seans defense. I dont think it was seans fault either. Unfortunately, it looks like the shot has gone away. So sorry, sean, if you can hear us. Sean, are you back . Who do you think that was . Who pulled the plug on that interview . Huh . Who do you think pulled the plug on our interview . Debbie wasserman schultz. I think Hillary Clinton pulled the plug. No question. Final question since we have clearly gone off the rails as we always do with you. Should donald trump debate Bernie Sanders in this mythical world we apparently live in where theyre talking about having a debate before california. Well, i think if it did, it would be a huge contrast in the direction of this country. I think when you look at what sanders is offering, the only thing that Bernie Sanders offers is another flavor of ben and jerrys ice cream. Its a far left socialist agenda whether its Foreign Policy, the way he wants to partner not with israel, the destruction he would have with that relationship, our Foreign Policy, our domestic policy, it would be a massive contrast in the direction this country could choose. So i think it would be a phenomenal debate if it happened. The other thing thats odd, by the way, is that Hillary Clinton refuses to fulfill her promise to debate Bernie Sanders, so there is a void because Hillary Clinton refuses to actually keep her word and do what she said and debate in california against Bernie Sanders. But do remember, donald trump also did not debate, at least once, because he just didnt want to. But he never said he was going to. I think there was a commitment they all agree to these debates. All right, all right, all right. No, they did not. Thats not true. Thats just not true though. The fact of the matter is Hillary Clinton did agree to four debates, four additional debates with Bernie Sanders. Once she got what she wanted, she broke her word which is exactly the reason most americans dont truster. Our favorite spicer. Our favorite spice of life. Were cutting you off for this. Paul ryan answering questions. What we just learned today was the democrats werent looking to advance an issue, theyre looking to sabotage the appropriations process. The fact that the author of the amendment that prevailed turned around and voted against the bill containing his amendment tells us theyre trying to stop the appropriations process in its tracks. What we will have to do when we return is get with our members and figure out how best we can move forward to have a full functioning appropriations process. So the Second Time Around the block in this issue. And yesterday when you met with some of us, you said that the first time this happened it was because of confusion, twominute votes, a little bit of chaos, people thought it was a bathroom issue. The evidence now suggests that thats not true no, at the time it was. There was a lot of confusion. Now that the same amendment came, people understood what it was and we brought this up, we let the place work its will and we let Congress Work its will, and then the people who brought this amendment forward voted against the bill containing their amendment which tells us this was about sabotaging appropriations. Now that republicans know what it is even more voted for it, 43 republicans. Like i said, people didnt know what was happening then. They had a much clearer understanding of what it was now. Just remember the authors of the bill voted against the bill containing their amendment that had prevailed. This was about sabotaging appropriations. M ma manu. [ inawedable question ] im concerned about real party unity because we need to win this election in the fall. Theres too much at stake. The supreme court, on and on and on i could go. I want real party unity and thats what im most concerned about. Is it really fair for you to blame democrats [ inaudible ]. A couple of those voted then why did they pass by voice vote . Some of these things you just mentioned passed by voice vote with no one objecting to them. No, no. Go ahead, ladies first. Thank you. What is your own view on [ inaudible ]. I voted for it like a decade ago. My position has not changed. Weve had this law on the books in wisconsin since, i dont know, 1982 put in by a republican governor. So my view has not changed on this. Jonathan . In terms of the future of appropriations, do you still intend to rerun this bill, move other bills, and what happens with the idea of a cr . Obviously we want to pass individual bills. We think thats the best interests of just the institution of congress, of exercising the power of the purse. When we come back, we will sit down with our members and have a family discussion about how best to proceed so the appropriations process cannot be saab tanlbota derailed. Last question. [ inaudible question ] oh, i dont think thats the case. I dont think the rate i dont think that time line is the case, number one. Number two, we just voted to go to conference on it, so not only had our appropriate raters been talking preconference. Now weve just sent them into an official conference so they can get to work on this problem. Theres already money in the pipeline going out right now. Thats another point that needs to be made clear. Thanks. There you go. The House Speaker taking all the questions were about this bill the spending bill that just failed and quite an embarrassment for a House Speaker who kind of stakes his name on getting the government moving again and getting regular order moving again. This has been a problem and a thorn in the side of paul ryan. It looks like its going to continue. He did get one question on donald trump and a phone call with trump last night on the idea of is the party coming together, and he once again said his interest is in real unity. Unclear if theyre moving closer or further away from that, but paul ryan keeps getting asked. And he will keep getting asked. Life feels a little lighter, potency probiotic, livelier, a little more you. Ultimate flora probiotics. Theres a certain buildup of aggravation. We saw that in my lengthy primary in 2008. This is no different. Once the primary process is resolved, the ability for us to pull together around a common vision that is in sharp contrast to the vision thats being offered on the other side i think is one that will get done by the time of the convention. President obama in japan this morning weighing in on the aggravation and the grumpiness as he calls it of the primary process. He says hes confident democrats will come together by convention time. That time is not now. A new poll out this morning shows Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton neck and neck in california, the big prize on june 7th. Clinton is at 46 , sanders at 44 . He is closing the gap since the last time this poll was taken in march. Hillary clinton is also stepping up to the fight with a new round of Television Ads that are going to be hitting california airwaves tomorrow, spending money in the state. Joining us to discuss the state of the race, jim messina, the former Campaign Manager for president obama and ceo of messina group. Thank you for joining us. Good morning, how is life . Life is wonderful. Though it feels like it might be a full moon today on this show. I do want to ask you, well talk about california in just a second, but you have run a campaign before, very successfully. You have also dealt with scandals on the trail before. The email scandal that continues to dog Hillary Clinton and has from the beginning, its now back. It is not going away. How do you advise she get out of it . Well, look, what voters care about in this election is what these candidates are going to do to make their lives better, right . Every ten days or two weeks during the 2012 Obama Campaign bill clinton would call me in the middle of the night and say, jim, all president ial elections are always about the future, and its about the future. It is incumbent upon candidates to talk about what she is going to do to make this country better. The fact is 20 voters dont care about email problems. What they care about is economics, their job and what we need to do. They do care about trust, though. And they care about honesty. In all exit polling shows that it is a real vulnerability for Hillary Clinton. This report from the state Department Says that it did not go the way she said it went. They did not get legal approval. There were not people who knew and approved of her use of emails. Is this something she needs to address more or at all . I think she has. She has said repeatedly what the process was. She said she had to do it over again she would do it differently. The same report you talked about mentioned her predecessors had a personal email address, didnt have state. Gov email address. Can we talk about california . If it hasnt gotten fascinating it is getting there. This poll saying Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, theyre virtually tied. If you are running Hillary Clintons campaign right now, what do you do in the next two weeks . I would do exactly what they are doing. As a guy who ran a successful president ial campaign clintons Campaign Manager is doing an amazing job. They have the candidate on the job and investing in resources. You saw them go up with ads in latino africanamerican and asian communities. I think the more people are exposed to Hillary Clintons message the better off they will be. You all know california is an important state and we are watching it. Hillary clinton has won the nomination for president. She is going to be the democratic. They are doing what they should do and focussed on november. What about if you are running Bernie Sanders campaign and your goal is to win california . How would you win california if you are Bernie Sanders . If i was the Sanders Campaign i would be worried less about california and more about how to unite the party post june 7. You had president obama talking about uniting the party. I remember at the same time eight years ago everyone was screaming the party is not going to unite around obama, these women supporting hillary were mad. What happened . The week after the election she flew to new hampshire, wrapped her arms around barack obama and said we are in this to win in november. And thats what i think Bernie Sanders should be focussed on. You think the republicans are going to unite . They are looking at the same problem. I think in the end they will. You have speaker ryan like a soap opera. In the end you know how it will end. And all the politicians are going to come together to save their own skin. That is what is going to happen in the Republican Party. Im a Guiding Light guy. What is your favorite . I want you to both look quietly and longingly stare into the camera like the final scene. I cant wait for the next episode. Thanks so much. Have a good one. Moments from now donald trump is set to speak in the wake of a big campaign shakeup. Why did team trump part ways with their political director six weeks after he took the job . We will bring you trump live. Plus when president obama leaves the white house he is not really going very far away, just down the street into a nice big house. Whats that going to be like . We will discuss. President obama plans to stay in washington after he leaves the white house at least until his youngest daughter, sasha, finishes high school. Now like most regular people he has been house hunting. This is the picture of the home they plan to lease, house in an upscale neighborhood has enough room for secret service who will remain nearby. Dealt with life outside the white house. It is unusual for a president to stick around in d. C. Afterwards. This is going to be interesting. It will be fascinating to see what they end up doing. Usually they catch a plane and leave town as fast as they can. It is interesting to look at what democratic president s before him have done. The clinton global initiative, Carter Center, these big attacks they have taken on and these global life changing things they are working on. I imagine that president obama and Michelle Obama will be writing their own memoirs and probably do a hybrid of the Carter Center and clinton global initiative. Flip the script a little bit, if you are the new president moving into the white house, what is it like having the other former president just down the road . It is going to be really interesting especially if hillary wins. She has had a long relationship with president obama. Will she reach out to him for advice . I think if donald trump wins there will be less it will strangely enough be less of an issue because there wont be that need for people to see them reaching out and working together and seeking advice. It is interesting to note that a lot of first ladies especially have done incredible things after they left the white house. Betty ford opened the Betty Ford Center in 1982 and got more for her book than her husband did. Well see. Michelle obama is working on her memoirs now. That will be fascinating to see how open and honest she is in her book. A sense of what it is like to have a president living in your neighborhood . I guess the clintons ended up it is bound to make things interesting when there is secret service and a former president next door. Traveling with the president to his home in chicago there is a huge apparatus that follows him. He will have secret Service Protection for the rest of his life. I imagine he will want it especially immediately after they leave the white house. It will change the neighborhood. Its a beautiful, leafy, very wealthy neighborhood in northwest washington. I expect his neighbors will see it get a lot more crowded and tourists will want to drive by the house. I guess if any city is used to it it would be washington used to that. So the obamas are staying in washington for a reason that is very normal. They dont want to move their daughter and have her change schools as she is finishing high school. What do they do after that . I think after that they will focus on issues that are close to their hearts, maybe issues that are political that they cant get into as much as they would like to now. Issues effecting urban communities, issues like gun control. I have been told that will be like front on their list of things to do once they leave the white house, things that are touchy right now. Once you are an expresident you have this amazing perch. President bush has retreated a bit. Clearly, they dont plan to stay along after high school. Thank you so much. And thank you all so much for joining us for this very wild at this hour. A lot going on. Legal view with Ashleigh Banfield starts right now. Hello everyone. Welcome to legal view. Donald trump set to speak soon. The presumptive nominee is in north dakota following west coast swing. In the meantime new revelations from Donald Trumps top aid. That man on the left is hinting at just who donald trump might or might not pick as his Vice President. And you might be surprised because he says trump probably will not choose a woman. Or will not choose a member of the minority group
