sunny hostin, legal analyst as well as george howell who is there on the scene in kansas. sunny, i want to start with you. we heard from police there in kansas, we heard from the fbi calling the shootings a hate crime. and as we heard from eric holder saying he wanted this to be investigated as federal hate crimes. what does that mean, if it's on the federal level? >> sure. and i think at this point we can be clear that it is on the federal level. we heard the u.s. attorney indicate -- the representative from the u.s. attorney's office indicating that there would be grand jury action. and so at this point, this is a federal hate crime case. what it means is they've determined that the crime was motivated in whole or at least in part by the offender's bias against a particular group, whether it be race or sexual orientation, in this case clearly it's religion. and what that means is that the federal government in all of its investigative power will take the lead on this. there could certainly be state
