black professor in scotland. and i found it very surprising because i've never seen myself in that way. i wasn't made a professor because i was black. i was made a professor because i started my research in 1964 and this was i980—odd. i can't remember the date. and therefore i felt i'd achieved something which i probably deserved. you know, ithink a portrait at its best is a likeness. but i think when you can reveal something about the inner life of a person and and how the portrait is rendered, i think that's when something more interesting occurs. so i'm really hopeful that i'm able to to get a bit more of his interior life. sir geoff, how are you? what a pleasure to meet you. it's nice meeting you, too.
