Restrictions. What happens now to the businesses which want to see a customerfor the businesses which want to see a customer for four weeks or more . Voting day in the us president ial elections, as millions head to the polls businesses in the major cities take precautions against violence in the aftermath. And its a day of sunshine and showers in the uk but there is something drier on the horizon. I will have the full forecast. Good morning. Its tuesday, november the 3rd. Our top story. Three people are known to have died, and many more are injured, after gunmen opened fire in the centre of the austrian capital vienna. The countrys chancellor has described it as a repulsive terror attack. Police have arrested one suspect and shot dead another, but are still searching for at least one gunman. Mark lobel reports. Austrian police order people to take cover. News of an incident emerged just before eight last night, with reports of several gunmen armed with rifles opening fire in six locations. One witness recalls what he saw. We didnt know what was going on, to be honest. The only thing we heard of was the firecrackers, the sound of firecrackers. And then we only saw what happened sort of afterwards. You know, we saw policemen in the street next to our restaurant. We saw the ambulance lining up next to our restaurant. We saw there were victims who seemed harmed, in a way. It unfolded in a vibrant district of vienna opposite a synagogue, which was closed at the time. Its not clear if that was a target. It comes a night before a new 8pm coronavirus curfew kicks in for cafes and restaurants there. Austrias chancellor has called it a repulsive terror attack. Translation we are living here in austria and particularly in vienna through difficult hours. We are victims of an appalling terrorist attack in our capital, which is still ongoing. I want to thank the emergency services. They are risking their lives to secure our safety. Borisjohnson has tweeted that he is deeply shocked by the terrible attacks, telling the people of austria the uk stands united with them against terror. Police are still searching for at least one suspect still at large. Theyre urging people to stay at home or avoid public transport if theyre out on the streets. Austrias interior minister described this as the hardest day this for the country for several years. As the manhunt continues for at least one heavily armed and dangerous attacker, the special forces are also looking beyond the capital. Mark lobel, bbc news. Lets get the latest from our correspondent, damien mcguiness, whos in berlin for us. This is very much an ongoing situation. What is the latest . Thats right. Schools have been closed and the authorities are still telling people to avoid the city centre. The latest confirmed information from police is that at least three people are now dead. Two two men, one woman. The suspects apartment is being searched. The interior manager the interior minister says that one of the suspect sags links to islamic state. This does appear to have been an islamist attack. That was the big question until now. What we knew is that there had been six places where the attack had been carried out. One of those places was near a synagogue. It was not clear if that played a role. Right now, Going Forward , played a role. Right now, Going Forward, the real question is, at least one other person is on the run, so its still potentially a dangerous situation in vienna. Thank you for the update. We will check in later. Regular coronavirus tests are going to be offered to everyone in liverpool from the end of this week, in the governments first mass testing pilot involving a whole city. Troops will help carry out rapid turnaround tests on about half a Million People who live or work in liverpool, even if they dont have symptoms. Our Political Correspondent nick eardley reports. Many of us have taken tests like this in the last few months. The government thinks they are going to be crucial to controlling the virus in future. Yesterday, they hit a target with half a million daily tests available. And, from friday, a new mass testing scheme is being rolled out here in liverpool, where the number of cases is among the highest in england. Everyone, even those without symptoms, will be offered a regular test. 2000 Armed Forces Personnel have been deployed to help. In what the Prime Minister hopes will be a new weapon against the virus. Borisjohnson was in Parliament Yesterday to explain his plans for a new england white lockdown coming into force for a month from thursday. The modelling presented by our scientists suggests that without action, we could see up to twice as many deaths over the winter as we saw in the first wave. Faced with these latest figures, there is no alternative but to take further action at a national level. He said the measures would end in four weeks, and it would be up to mps what would happen next. Leader of the opposition, keir starmer. But he has faced claims that he waited too long to act. As a result, this lockdown will be longer than it needed to be, at least four weeks. It will be harder. We havejust missed half term. And the human cost will be higher. Labour will, though, back the measures in a vote tomorrow, so they will almost certainly pass. Not that everyone is happy with the strategy. A four week period that must be used wisely. A time too, as has been said, sort out test and trace. But, frankly, i also think those four weeks are for the government to reboot itself, both in its policy and operation, and i dare say for us all to take that attitude, as well. Can the Prime Minister demonstrate to me that the damage that we calls to east sussex by locking down, on our economy, on liberty, on lives, on livelihoods, would be a lot worse were we to do absolutely nothing . So england is heading for another lockdown. But there remain questions over the cost and the longer term exit strategy. Nick eardley, bbc news, westminster. Lets go to downing street now, where borisjohnson is due to hold a Cabinet Meeting later this morning. Our Political Correspondent, Jessica Parker, is there for us. Good morning. There still seems to bea good morning. There still seems to be a little bit of confusion over the detail of this lockdown due yeah, there are a few details yet to be hammered out. One example is we we re be hammered out. One example is we were given to believe by downing street yesterday that golf and tennis wouldnt be allowed under the new lockdown measures for england coming into force on thursday. Then a very senior cabinet minister, michael gove, speaking last night to the Surrey Residents Network said people probably could continue to play singles tennis and allowed people to play golf as well with one person. So details like that, it seems, are still being resolved. Then there is the very significant issue of furlough. Boris johnson face numerous questions yesterday as to whether the furlough scheme, where the government is now stepping in to pay 80 of peoples wages if they cant work, whether if scotland, wales and Northern Ireland went into lockdown in the future, the government would can extend the government would can extend the furlough scheme for those areas. He seemed to confirm last night, speaking to douglas ross, the leader of the scottish conservatives, but we are still waiting for confirmation from the treasury on that. A Cabinet Meeting later this morning. Maybe they will be hammering out some of those details. We have an urgent question being put by labour in the house of commons today about the economic support package. Thank you very much for that. We will be speaking to the communities secretary, robertjenrick, 7 30am. We have had lots of questions from you about what you can and cant do in england when lockdown starts on thursday. Yes, and a little bit later we will speak to our panel of experts just after eight. Lots of information. The Wales Football Team have cancelled a News Conference, after what the wales fa described as an alleged incident involving the manager, ryan giggs. Hed been due to announce the squad for three upcoming matches. The wales fa said it wont be commenting further for now. Giggs has been manager of the Welsh National side since january 2018. The polls will open in the us later this morning, as voters choose between President Donald Trump and his democratic challengerjoe biden. Businesses in the nations capital, washington dc, and in new york city, have been seen boarding up their premises due to concerns about unrest after the vote. This our washington correspondent, ben wright, is in washington dc this morning. They have been working hard, havent they, both candidates in the last few hours . Its been a frenetic final day of campaigning here. Last timei final day of campaigning here. Last time i looked donald trump is still speaking at a rally in michigan. It is one oclock in the morning. He is taking this campaign to the wire in a frenetic effort to shore up his vote in some of those key swing states, mainly in the north east of the us. He narrowly won four years ago. He needs to keep it if he wants ago. He needs to keep it if he wants a second term of the white house. He has been extraordinarily busy in the past week, turning up at rallies. Joe biden at a different pace and a different event. We had a drive through event in pittsburgh, at which lady gaga performed. They are offering starkly different m essa 9 es are offering starkly different m essa g es to are offering starkly different messages to the american electorate. Donald trump saying four more years of pretty much the same, joe biden promising america he will try to calm the temperature in these deeply divided country. And joe biden knows he is going into election day, it seems, fairly comfortably ahead in the polls. Everybody knows how wrong the polls. Everybody knows how wrong the polls. Everybody knows how wrong the polls were four years ago. It is an unprecedented election taking place in the middle of a pandemic, there is a lot of unease around the us about what happens in the hours and days after the election because of the number of postal ballots that need to be counted. Its possible we dont get a result as we normally would soon after polls close. It is shrouded in uncertainty. There is clearly huge determination to take pa rt by clearly huge determination to take part by many americans. Thank you very much indeed. Coverage will start on the bbc tonight and go into the early hours of tomorrow and breakfast as well. We might not have the actual result for a couple of days. Im not sure i can stay on airfor a couple of days they might be a break here and there. 12 minutes past six. We saw break here and there. 12 minutes past six. We saness parker outside number 10 with a brolly. Whats it like for the rest of us . Good morning. Brolly is out this morning. Some areas have seen flooding in the past few days. But there is something drier on the horizon after today, even if it does stay on the chilly side. Some pretty heavy rain across Central Scotland. Some sleet and snow at the top of the hills. A little curl of quite heavy rain pushing through. A couple of bouts of rain through this morning working through the midlands, southern england and the east. When that clears from late morning onwards, much more sunshine developing. There will be a scattering of showers to take us through the afternoon. Some of those can be any happier than resort. North and west of scotland prone to them. Eastern scotland brightening up them. Eastern scotland brightening up compared to this morning. A cool day. Temperatures sticking in single figures for much of scotland, Northern Ireland and the north of undead. A lot more sunshine further south. If you see the showers they will be on the heavy side. The breeze easing down a little bit compared to recent days. Into this evening and overnight as the breeze continues to ease down, some showers to the north and west. Clear skies elsewhere. It will be a cold night. It could be the first widespread frost for a while. Temperatures close to if not below freezing in england and wales. Things will turn drierfor england and wales. Things will turn drier for the england and wales. Things will turn drierfor the rest of england and wales. Things will turn drier for the rest of this week. There will be some overnight mist, fog and also frost. Thank you. Lets take a look at todays front pages. The guardian reports that liverpool will become the first city to trial mass testing. It also says that those who test positive and their close contacts may have their self isolation periods reduced to seven days. As polls open across the us today, the times leads on a warning from President Trump who says a delay in declaring the election result would put the country in danger. Johnny depp features on the front of the express, after he lost his libel case against the Sun Newspaper its after the paper published an article that called him a wife beater. Terror in vienna is the headline on austrias der standard website. Its after a multiple shooting in the city last night. Police say they are still searching for at least one more attacker. The latest figures are the death toll is three at the moment. And we will keep covering that story this morning because it is obviously an ongoing situation. We were talking about the american election. I know you will like this. Are you going to stay up all night and watch it, dan . Yes, louise these are key times. This is from the daily mail. Lots of the papers writing about the election. So id midnight uk time, thatis election. So id midnight uk time, that is when the polls close, for example in florida. Last time, 2016, they called at 4 30am uk time. Pollsters promising a quick count. It could be one of the first to declare because it used to handling lots of mail in ballots. Many millions of people in america have already voted by mail. Georgia called it at 4 50am last time. If you are up in the early hours it will be happening there. 4 23am in North Carolina last time. You can set it all out, you can set alarms. You can do whatever you like. There will be a lot of coverage. Florida is interesting because ifjoe biden manages to win in florida that is an early indicator. Lots of talk in the newspapers today about what you can and cant do. Talk about a gulping band. You can go fishing with one other person. Golf is being looked at, as is tennis. Talk about golf being banned. Iwill show at, as is tennis. Talk about golf being banned. I will show you a picture of a queue in a minute. The ban on worship, the archbishop of canterbury has said perhaps the closure of churches has been overly cautious in permitting priests from entering churches during the first lockdown, and saying people must have access to the sacraments. The Muslim Council of britain say worship is fundamentally congregational in nature. It is important to the government considers revising this during lockdown. Hopefully you can see this. Here we go. Have a look. This isa this. Here we go. Have a look. This is a shop in watford. Can you see that . A 397 metre queue to get into this shop, going right around the carpet. Can you see that . This is the entrance. It goes all the way around. Plenty of bog roll there for the coming weeks. So even though people are saying you dont need to stock up, there are some people who are stocking up. Very briefly, a story about electric scooters. There will be fitted with noise limiting devices. Look at her thousands of pubs, bars and restaurants in england have once again been told theyre going to have to close for four weeks. Ninas in staffordshire for us this morning. Good morning. Yeah, good morning. Im not in thejungle. Im in aston marina in stafford. Its absolutely beautiful. This is an outdoor ppup beautiful. This is an outdoor pop up. We are on the marina. The trent and mersey canal. A beautiful spot. You can join trent and mersey canal. A beautiful spot. You canjoin some pals under the old restrictions. This place has invested up to £15,000 in these parts alone to create some outdoor space. But as we know, as of tomorrow, those doors will have to close for at least a month. Lets remind ourselves of the roller coasters that hospitality has been on. Back in march, there was a full lockdown. They had to close their doors completely. They reopened injuly, their doors completely. They reopened in july, but their doors completely. They reopened injuly, but with some restrictions. Social distancing had to be in place, they had to support every track and trace system. In september, there was a time pm cu rfew september, there was a time pm curfew and the rule of six indoors and outdoors. In october, the tier system and outdoors. In october, the tier syste m ca m e and outdoors. In october, the tier system came in. That limited households mixing in some areas and shut down some pubs completely. And now tomorrow, we got all the way back to march to that system of full lockdown in england. Wales, Northern Ireland and scotland have their own systems in place. Scotland may go into a systems in place. Scotland may go intoa similar systems in place. Scotland may go into a similar love dancing. Lets talk about the roller coasters with helen, the big boss here. Thank you for having us. Thank you for coming. What is it like to invest all of that money to adhere to the rules knowing that you are going to have to close tomorrow . Yeah, its a tough time, definitely. We are sad tough time, definitely. We are sad to be closing, obviously. We are here to serve our customers. That is what we like to do. Health comes first, i suppose, what we like to do. Health comes first, isuppose, and what we like to do. Health comes first, i suppose, and also, what we like to do. Health comes first, isuppose, and also, we what we like to do. Health comes first, i suppose, and also, we know that whatever has to be done has to be done. Hopefully its for a good reason and everything will be ready for december. You are still smiling. We remain optimistic. Always. The government has reintroduced the furlough scheme, the job government has reintroduced the furlough scheme, thejob support scheme and some grands. When you look at the scale of that support compared to how much income you would have got if people were coming through the doors, how does it look . It all helps, absolutely. Its not the same as being open for business but it keeps us going and we will still be here. So yeah, it is a good support. Further particularly has really helped. And yeah, we will still be here on the other side. You are optimistic, but what if the Prime Minister sits down in two weeks and says, im sorry, but this is going to have to be extended through december, through the crucial Christmas Period . It would bea crucial Christmas Period . It would be a massive, massive blow to lose christmas. December is a big month in winterfor us. We christmas. December is a big month in winter for us. We are always very busyin in winter for us. We are always very busy in the summer. People love to come here and sit by the water, have their food and their drinks. Come here and sit by the water, have theirfood and their drinks. And in december, the Christmas Spirit definitely helps with the darker months of january and definitely helps with the darker months ofjanuary and february, which are always our quietest month. The christmas spend helps you get over that hump into the spring. Definitely. We want as much of december as we can possibly get. Everything crossed for you. 80,000 pubs, bars and restaurants facing closure from tomorrow night across england. To give you a number, when we look at the Third Quarter of this year compared to last year, revenue is about half of what it was in 2019. We are talking about a £17 billion shortfall in hospitality as things stand. That is the wider context of this. Many businesses clinging on by the skin of their teeth. As helen said, if they lose christmas, it could be fatal for some. Really tough times. Nina, thank you. The bush fires that raged across australia this time last year caused devastation. As well as claiming more than 30 lives, the countrys wildlife was also badly hit. The koala population was decimated, and ever since, volunteers on kanagaroo island have been doing their best to help them recover. Our australia correspondent, shaimaa khalil, reports. They survived australias fires. Now these koalas are ready to go back where they belong. Its a very different scene from nearly a year ago. Pictures of the badly burned animals shocked the world. Hundreds were brought to this wildlife park when the flames tore through the island. As well as being faced with the burns and the starvation and the dehydration, they were also very mentally affected as well. A lot of them were just feeling so terrible that they were just kind of cuddled in a ball, they didnt have that fight response, which a wild animal should. Of the 50,000 koalas living on Kangaroo Island before the bushfire, its feared most of them were killed. Images of the destruction and the loss of wildlife were seen across the globe, prompting millions of dollars in donations. It was just incredible to see how many people from pretty much every country in the world jumped on board to donate to looking after and saving as much wildlife on Kangaroo Island here as we could. Helping koalas survive here is vital for australias ecology. Its the one place where the animals are disease free. For months now, hundreds of koalas have been looked after in the wildlife park, and its been a long and tough journey for many of them. The aim is to get them Strong Enough to survive on their own here in the wild. And today, one of them is being released. This after ten months of care, its time for mertons big move today. Ready . Are you watching . Here goes the koala. Oh, here he goes for dana, its a bittersweet separation. Theres no better feeling watching someone that youve helped either raise from a joey, or get through all of that treatments, and then get them back out to the wild, watching them climb back out of a tree where theyre meant to be. Itll take years for the island to recover, but its hoped koalas like merton can still thrive in a much changed habitat. Bye bye. Bye bye, koala. Bye bye, koala. Shaimaa khalil, bbc news, Kangaroo Island. After what we saw when those fires happen, its lovely to see some optimism. Yes, those horrible pictures of the koalas being burned. Time now to get the news, travel and weather where you are. Good morning from bbc london, im tolu adeoye. London councils are asking the government to give them more money and responsibility over track and trace. Hammersmith and Fulham Council has started its own system which has been praised. The nhs says they are concentrating on delivering a National System and working closely with local authorities. The government needs to think differently. Its thought about big companies, costing a lot of money, doing big and we now know not very succesful things. And it now needs to take the system, take the funding and the investment, and put it in local authorities, because what were doing, were reaching 88 of these so called unreachables at the moment. What were doing is working. Several councils are calling for parliament to return to online voting to reduce the risk of spreading the virus in westminster. Sincejune, mps have been able to contribute to debates virtually but they have had to vote in person. The leader of the house, jacob rees mogg, has previously said there is no law and no local lockdown that can prohibit mps from attending parliament. Afc wimbledon will play their first competitive game at their new stadium tonight. Its been builtjust a few hundred yards from their original home on plough lane, costing £30 million and will seatjust over 9,000 people. But its bitterwseet with fans unable to attend matches. The team will be playing on wimbledons football pitch again, and thats absolutely amazing and incredible. But this wont be open, we wont be back home until we can have every Single Person that deserves to be in here, here, watching our fantastic team play. Lets take a look at the travel situation now. Theres a good service on the tubes this morning. On the roads theres the usual Traffic Building up to the blackwall tunnel. Cricklewood lane is closed between cricklewood station and the broadway because of roadworks. Finally in sidcup, north cray road is closed from ruxley corner to st james way for roadworks. Now the weather with elizabeth rizzini. Hello, good morning. Well, its a lot chillier this morning than it was this time yesterday, by around ten degrees for most places. Were into much cooler air at the moment and its another wet and windy start to the day. Theres a little feature giving us some outbreaks of rain just pushing in from the west. There could be a rumble or two of thunder. There will be some heavy downpours for a short while this morning, before it pushes eastwards. And after that, it will dry out. Still a brisk and a cool north westerly wind, but also decent spells of sunshine. Just watch out for one or two showers here and there, and temperatures will peak at only ten or 11 degrees celsius, a lot cooler than of late. Now through this evening and overnight, we are in for a cold one. Lots of clear skies around. The winds will lighten and there will be a frost developing. Some of our temperatures will drop below freezing, particularly away from the towns. Into wednesday, and compared to how it has been, a very pretty day of weather. It should stay dry, lighter winds, lots of sunshine, expect to see a bit of fog on thusrday. A bit of fog on thursday. Im back with the latest from bbc london in half an hour. Now though its back to dan and louise. Bye for now. Hello, this is breakfast with Louise Minchin and dan walker. Its 6. 30. Well bring you all the latest news and sport in a moment, but also on breakfast this morning. As coronavirus case numbers across the uk continue to rise, well have special access to one hospital in liverpool to see how staff and patients are coping. The second lockdown in england will see Leisure Facilities across the country closing their doors former olympic swimmer steve parry will be telling us how grassroots sport is likely to be affected. Camouflage yourself. And then reveal yourself. Please dont misinterpret to reveal yourself. And comedian alex horne will be telling us why hes challenging kids at home to take on wierd and wonderful tasks during lockdown. Donald trump and joe biden have both taken part in a whistle stop tour of key swing states as the Us Election Campaign enters its final hours. More than 96 Million People have already cast their ballots in early voting, putting the country on course for its highest turnout in a century, but the race could be decided in just a few battleground states. Lets speak to julia manchester, who is a political reporter for the hill, shes in washington dc this morning. Thank you. For coming on to talk to us thank you. For coming on to talk to us about a frantic few hours. We understand the president was speaking until recently and joe biden has been on the big push. How do you think they have been trying to push voters in the past few hours . We have seen joe biden trying to win back a number of key states President Trump narrowly flipped in 2016 which is michigan, wisconsin and pennsylvania. They are states that were democratic until four yea rs that were democratic until four years ago. President trump is trying to protect those, visiting them as well. In the us, the talk centres on pennsylvania. President trump spent four rallies there in the state this weekend. Joe biden was there for two days, sunday and monday. A lot of attention paid towards pennsylvania, but it is interesting because we probably wont know the winner of election day because of states like pennsylvania, those mail in ballots. We have seen a record number, 100 million americans voting early in person or by mail vote. The mail in ballots across the country take a while to count so we probably wont know until later. How much trust is being put in polling becausejoe biden is ahead slightly and many of those polls, but Trump Supporters and opponents will have known it was the same case with Hillary Clinton four years ago. Absolutely, there is scepticism about the polls. You see a lot of democrats are expressing cautious optimism, even scepticism about the polls. Michael moore the liberal activist said he was concerned that a number of Trump Supporters were being under counted in states like michigan. However, i would think the difference between now and 2016 is a lot of pollsters have refined methods from then. Really trying to improve. We have seen news really trying to improve. We have seen news media pay more attention to local and congressional level district polling and we see it a lot in the key swing districts. Joe biden continues to lead President Trump. So that is one of the key differences between now and 2016. Can you explain to viewers, they might have seen about the executive orderfrom the president might have seen about the executive order from the president to establish a 1776 commission, a day before the election. Why did he do it so close to the election . We are seeing the president is saying he would definitely bring up, involve lawyers for example, if there was anything to happen with mail in votes or results were to be challenged after the election. We are seeing a lot of these legal challenges and lots of commissions are being brought up by the president right now. That is something we are hearing from the Trump Administration right now, but we are seeing thatjoe bidens campaign is pushing back against any notion from the trump campaign, if President Trump try to challenge the election, saying we will do that. We have seen a lot of pictures in the past few days of shops are boarded up. There have been protests in recent weeks and months. Is there a fear on both sides there might be a significant number of issues across america, whoever wins. It has been a tough year in america and around the world, but in america, we have dealt with going back to the summer, with these protests over the issue of racial injustice, police brutality. We have seen protests and in cities like philadelphia, washington, dc. Cities in the midwest, that there has been tension and we have seen some rioting in protest. There has definitely been a feeling of being on edge and we see that feeling in addition to that because of the election and because the country is so divided. If you go down the street here in washington, dc, uc shops and apartment buildings are boarded up. I think that is out of precaution to avoid may be some of the damage that took place earlier this year, but i would say overall there is a feeling of tension across there is a feeling of tension across the country. Ok, you have a busy few days ahead. Thank you for speaking to us. And there will be full coverage a cross to us. And there will be full coverage across the bbc starting at 11 30pm tonight and going on. Sally is talking to us about sport or no support. And we hope to clarify this a little bit for you. Going into Lockdown People are concerned they will not be able to carry on doing the fitness and exercise they have been doing but there appears to have been government u turn over grassroots sport. After the Prime Minister dismissed calls for golf and tennis to be made exempt from the new lockdown restrictions, cabinet minister michael gove suggested otherwise, during a live 0 a with residents from his surrey constituency. The guidance that we have is that if people are appropriately socially distanced, they can take exercise with one other person. Thats why i mentioned golf earlier. Golf clubs, clubhouses, they will have to be closed, but we are looking at allowing people to play on golf courses with one other, appropriately distanced. I think the same would apply to tennis. If you are playing tennis out of doors and, again, notwithstanding the weather, lots of people will want to in order to stay fit and to keep healthy, then i hope it will be the case that we will be able to refine, and further details will be published tomorrow that you can play with one other person. That information is due to come today. One thing we do know for sure is that childrens grassroots sport will be suspended, outside of schools. Culture secretary Oliver Dowden said it would have to stop to reduce the risk of transmission. Thats not what the Youth Sports Trust wanted to hear. Probably the Biggest Issue for the grassroots side is what happens to Community Sport in the long run. And to lose some of these grassroots clubs, supported by volunteers that are really struggling now, will leave us with a legacy of a generation who are inactive, and unable then to find their way into sport as a Healthy Habit for life. Leicester city are flying in the premier league theyre nowjust a point behind leaders liverpool, after a comfortabe 4 1 victory at leeds. Jamie vardy made leicesters first two goals before scoring the third himself. Thats now five wins from their first seven matches. But Brendan Rodgers wont let his side get ahead of themselves. Not really. I think if we get to march, april time and were in that position, then itll be nice. But its better to make a better start and be there, than be second from bottom. But its still very early, seven games, and, yeah, long way to go. Meanwhile fulham have theirfirst win since returning to the premier league it came at the expense of west brom, this rocket from ola aina helping them to a 2 0 win. That takes fulham out of the bottom three. Leinsters remarkable run in rugby unions pro 1a continues. Theyve now won 23 matches in a row in the competition the latest a 32 19 victory at glasgow. That takes them ahead of ulster to the top of the table. Rugby league side toronto wolfpack will not be returning to super league. The leagues other clubs voted against letting the canadian side back in, after they resigned from this years competition in july. They had climbed from league one to the top tier in just three seasons since starting up, but their owner at the time said he could no longer fund the club. And castleford tigers next two super League Matches against leeds and salford are off after four more players tested positive for covid 19. The tigers game last friday against huddersfield was cancelled after 13 positive tests. Much more on the situation regarding grassroots sport coming up throughout the programme this morning. And we speak to robertjenrick later and we will see if we can get some a nswe rs. And thanks for your questions about that. It has been described by the austrian chancellor as a repulsive terror attack. A series of shootings in vienna last night left three people dead. One suspect has been arrested and another shot dead its thought at least one other is still on the run. Lets speak now to eric fry whos an editor on the austrian newspaper der standard. He joins us now from vienna. Good morning and thank you for joining us, what a shocking and terrifying thing to happen. What is the latest . There are indications it was a lone gunman who went on the rampage and did the shootings and killings and he was also killed. He is identified as a local, he has an apartment in vienna and the apartment in vienna and the apartment was found. He is described asa apartment was found. He is described as a sympathiser of islamic state. However, there are still other gun men, perpetrators out large, that is not clear. Police have not ruled it out but as of last night indications are it was the act of a Single Person. At this stage, is there any thought he had a particular target . The shootings started right outside the mainjewish synagogue in vienna, which is also a heavy party scene. So it is not sure it was directed at the synagogue orjust trying to kill young people going out for the last night before the covid lockdown was beginning to start. The city was totally full. The indications are because of his apparent islamist leanings, it was directed at the synagogue, which is also disconcerting for the Jewish Community in vienna and a sign that anti semitism and islamist terrorism is coming to vienna. We have seen pictures of people running to escape and also of a heavy police presence. What was the Police Response like . Because there was the belief and speculation that half a dozen gunmen we re speculation that half a dozen gunmen were out at large, the city was closed off by police. They got support from the military to close the city. And there were thousands of people outside or inside a theatre, concerts, restaurants, bars, clubs, they were all told to stay inside. They could not go home. Police started to search everyone, Public Transportation was eventually stopped or bypassed so you would not have additional traffic. It turned into a ghost town for several hours. Finally people were allowed to go home. This morning, the city is calm and very quiet. But this kind of Police Operation vienna has not seen it many years. There must have been a sense of shock last night and for people waking up this morning . Absolutely. Last night was terrifying because one did not know exactly what was happening. Particularly the fear that there we re particularly the fear that there were men with rifles outside, somewhere, may be in vienna, or leaving the city and going somewhere else. And being a direct threat, that was extremely scary. This morning, it seems the worst threat is over. And people are realising what has happened, but there is still a lot of concern. Government said please try to stay at home as much as you can. Schoolchildren, the younger ones, were supposed to go to school but were told if you want to stay at home, you can. So this will probably be a quiet and very tense day here. Thank you very much. One thing we are talking about today, you will have seen the clip sally was playing from michael gove, speaking to constituents and talking about tennis and golf. He said he thought you might be able to play tennis and golf and clarification might come later. Our Political Correspondent has just said that she is hearing michael gove has got this wrong. And that it is still a no for tennis and golf. We will try to get some clarity over the course of the programme. If you are planning a game on thursday, holed off. We will try to put that to Robert Jenrick who will be here at 7 30am. But michael gove said yes, yesterday. Potentially it might change. Jessica parker said she had been speaking to sources and that michael gove was wrong on that and people will not be able to play tennis and golf. We will try to get the answer before the end heres matt with a look at this mornings weather. Of the programme. Good morning. It has not been the weather for golf the past few days. We still have rain around with heavy bursts but you need optimism after the recent flooding some have seen. Watching the chart over the next days, High Pressure to the south west starts to build its way in. It means things will turn drier and less windy for many, even if a little bit colder. Certainly cold this morning compared with recent days. Rain in central and southern scotland and working through the midlands, east anglia. It may dry before moore comes. That will clear through the morning. Brighter skies to many areas in the west and a mixture of sunshine and showers in the afternoon, a little like yesterday. The heaviest across Western Areas. Not as frequent as yesterday. Blustery wind at the moment but overall the wind turning lighter. It is colder than yesterday and colder out there this afternoon, as well with temperatures widely in single figures. This evening and overnight, showers work across northern scotland with the breeze, the breeze easing elsewhere. Isolated showers to Western Areas and the channel islands. It means temperatures will take a tumble. Widespread frost on the ground tomorrow morning, particularly in england and wales where air temperature is below freezing. But are dry and bright start for the majority. Some isolated showers in the west particularly in the morning but for most, a dry day after the cold start with lighter winds, it perhaps will not feel as cold as this afternoon. Another frosty night into thursday with cloud across the north of scotland. The cloud in the southis north of scotland. The cloud in the south is fog. For some a morning of dense fog and for some it could linger into the afternoon and if it does temperatures will stay below ten. And that will be an issue for many as we go through the end of the week with lingering fog patches taking us through lunchtime into early afternoon. But most places will stay dry. The first sign of any rain will be later on saturday and into sunday. Let me quickly take you across towards the caribbean. And to central america. This hurricane, we are already tied with the most named storms in any Hurricane Season and this could be the strongest so far. Said to push into nicaragua. Already wind blew my up to 150 mile per hours. To put perspective into this, manchester receives 930 millimetres of rain in an entire year. A sobering thought and our thoughts are with them in nicaragua today. Thank you. An incredible comparison. Now, you will recognise some of these pictures. As the undisputed king of the talk shows his interviews have given us an insight into the lives of some of the biggest stars. But now, sir Michael Parkinson is reflecting on his own life and times. He may have interviewed everyone from jane fonda to noel gallagher, but his latest book explores the relationship with his father and his son. And i was delighted to go and see him. The parkinsons. What an absolute delight. A pop group who plays guitar and who sings . Ising. His voice has gone, sadly. Do you play any instruments . I took Music Lessons for five years with a lovely lady called miss green. I couldnt play a note at the end of it. Not at all. She used to fall asleep. My friends, knock on the window football. I wish i had, because i love music. Totally off topic, but there was a brilliant clip of one of your shows that went around social media this week. You probably remember it. It was roy castle. Yes, and buddy rich. Yes, and then Sammy Davis Jr came along. Thats right, yeah, those were the days. The amazing thing about that was that sammy davier was not meant to be on the show and he heard buddy rich was on the show, phoned up the producer, can i come on the show . He said yes, no problems at all. Walked on and buddy rich and he went to do ten minutes, impromptu, and the show went for 75 minutes. One of those moments. You remember that a long time, iwould imagine. Being part of that, just being able to listen and enjoy. The music was an important part of the show. Certainly part of my enjoyment of the show. Obviously, i used to wait, if i were doing a boring interview, for the music to come on, you know. Aside from the band the parkinsons, which im sure it is very exciting to think about, Going Forward, we now know what you have been keeping yourself busy with during lockdown, writing this lovely. What is the best way to describe it memoir . When i was talking to people, i used to always end up almost almost without knowing it, asking them about their relationship with their father. What was interesting was that i never understood. I knew how much i loved my father, i know why i loved him and all that, i mean he was just a sweet and dear man. But also i learned an awful lot from him. About being a father. I didnt carry much into practice, as you will confirm. Here was a man who had that incredible ethic of hard work and that has seeped down through the parkinson generation, as well. The difference is his hard work was potentially life threatening. Really hard work, yeah. I mean, that is the thing that made me fascinated by my grandfather. Because one thing you can say about. He was a miner. To actually discover what a miner did was frightening and shocking to a certain extent, and the idea that this wonderfully kind, funny, happy man emerged from that hole in the ground after nearly 40 years working in a job that would destroy me in a day, is absolutely amazing. They were actually hellholes, they really were. And just to spend your lifetime down there would be sufficient for me to believe you had to be mad to do it. You had to be some kind of saint to do it and actually retain any kind of link with human nature. And that is what my father achieved. Were you like your father . Is it best to ask you if sir michael was like his dad . My attitude would be that he is much more like his mum, my gran, who was a formidable woman. They had very similar ambitions and drive. You describe your dad as being forbidding and distant. I wonder, was that hard to write and was that hard to listen to or read . I didnt find it hard. I can be that, i can be, i could be. I think im changing as im getting older. Im getting nicer. I tell myself that. You know this. Any young person who is striving away in a business like television, and coming from where i came from, from the mining industry. I didnt go to university or anything like that. You know, the guardian was bad enough, but going to the bbc, in those days, i have to tell you, it was a very different animal altogether. Im not painting a sad story of my career, because ive had a charmed life and a charmed career. Absolutely. Ive worked with some wonderful people. But, nonetheless, it formed in me a kind of toughness and steeliness that sometimes could be very unattractive. You have watched every single one of your dads shows ever. I cant say every single one of them. We watched nearly all of them, yeah, so im quite encyclopedic. And for those who dont know, how many hundreds is that . Well, that is probably, in the region, given that he also went to australia, and. Its probably nearly 700 shows. I asked them about your budget. I came over here to do your show. And they said you dont have a budget, you dont pay. I wrote a poem. I love your show, i admire your style, but you pay so cheap, dont call me for a while. To sit opposite your heroes is marvellous, and to learn from them. And also ive sat opposite some of the most attractive women in the world. From the age of 13, i was lusting after Lauren Bacall and people like that. They didnt know. But that was just a simple idea, a simple thing that really greatly greatly pleased me to say, ladies and gentlemen, my next guest is ingrid bergman. To meet somebody who is not only serenely beautiful, but also intelligent and with a hell of a story to tell. My father nearly fainted when he saw her. One other story i want to ask you about, turning down a meal with Clint Eastwood. Describe what happened. My wife is onlyjust, in the last week or so, speaking to me and that was a long time ago he came on the show and he is a very nice man. And i had done a show before and i was a bit tired at the end of it. And he said to me, you like jazz, dont you . Isaid, yeah. He said, you know kyle, my son, is playing down at Ronnie Scotts . I said yeah, i did see that. He said, lets go down there, you and me and mary. Because he had met mary beforehand. Lets have a meal down there and lets hear a bit ofjazz. And i heard myself saying, a voice from nowhere, do you mind if i turn that down because im a bit knackered . We are in the car going home. What was his reaction . Hejust looked at me, raised an eyebrow. He was a very cool guy. You only get asked once. Exactly. I was thinking along that line, you idiot. Daft. Going home with mary, mary is in the car with me. Ive got to tell her this, otherwise ill blurt it out in my sleep or something. So i said, listen, ive got to tell you. Clint invited us out for dinner tonight. But youll understand, ive done two shows today, i told him i was absolutely knackered. She looked at me, she said, you what . I said i turn down an invitation from Clint Eastwood for dinner. I darent ruin marys reputation by telling you what she called me. Its been a real pleasure. Thank you so much. Congratulations on the book. And enjoy the rest of 2020. Thank you, same to you. Thank you. It isa it is a really interesting read. Was that intimidating, interviewing the interviewer . There was one point where he was very nice. I said to him, it is concerning interviewing you. I have read that you are constantly thinking i am asking good questions or not. He said that was all right. I will take that. Sir michaels book is called like father like son. Time now to get the news, travel and weather where you are. We will be back with headlines. Good morning from bbc london, im tolu adeoye. London councils are asking the government to give them more money and responsibility over track and trace. Hammersmith and Fulham Council has started its own system, which has been praised. The nhs says they are concentrating on delivering a National System and working closely with local authorities. The government needs to think differently. Its thought about big companies, costing a lot of money, doing big and we now know not very successful things. And it now needs to take the system, take the funding and the investment, and put it in local authorities, because what were doing, were reaching 88 of these so called unreachables at the moment. What were doing is working. Unions are calling for parliament to return to online voting to reduce the risk of spreading the virus in westminster. Sincejune, mps have been able to contribute to debates virtually, but theyve had to vote in person. The leader of the house, jacob rees mogg, has previously said there is no law and no local lockdown that can prohibit mps from attending parliament. Afc wimbledon will play their first competitive game at their new stadium tonight. Its been builtjust a few hundred yards from their original home on plough lane, costing £30 million, and will seat just over 9,000 people. But its bittersweet with fans still unable to attend matches. On the roads, the aa06 is slow from Staples Corner to neasden, because one lane is closed for roadworks. Cricklewood lane is closed between cricklewood station and the broadway because of roadworks. Finally, in sidcup, north cray road is closed from ruxley corner to st james way for roadworks. It should stay dry, lighter winds, lots of sunshine, expect to see a bit of fog on thursday. Im back with the latest from bbc london in half an hour. Now though its back to dan and louise. Yes, we have now had confirmation that at least four people have died in total, including the perpetrator, who was shot dead by the police. The big question, as we saw in the report, is whether there are more people on the run. Throughout the night officials indicated they thought there could be more people involved. That is because they were six different locations throughout the centre of vienna where the attacks took place. However, weve not had any official confirmation thatis not had any official confirmation that is indeed the case. Because so far police have only said there is only one definite perpetrator. We have to be quite careful before we jump have to be quite careful before we jump to too many conclusions. However, they have said that he was particularly well armed, he was carrying a bag of ammunition, various guns, including an assault rifle, which are used to fire randomly through the streets. The question now is whether other people we re question now is whether other people were involved and whether there is dangerfor people were involved and whether there is danger for people in vienna. Were involved and whether there is dangerfor people in vienna. That were involved and whether there is danger for people in vienna. That is why the authorities are still telling people to stay at home and avoid the city centre where possible. Thank you. The latest on what is happening in vienna. Thank you, damien. So england is heading for another lockdown. There remain questions over the cost and the longer term exit strategy. Lets talk about those tests. The mayor of liverpooljoe anderson said there would be new testing points right across the city. Theyre going to be outside some hospitals outside universities, outside our schools. Mobile units are going into care homes as well and to other places where we see there is a spike or increase in covid 19 activity. There is a spike or increase in covid19 activity. Lets get le back to lockdown, which starts on thursday. Our Political Correspondent Jessica Parker is in downing street for us this morning. We have a couple of days to go and there is still confusion. Bring us up to date with the latest . There is still confusion. Bring us uptodate with the latest . Good morning. Good morning. Confusion in a couple of areas. Something that ppped a couple of areas. Something that normed up a couple of areas. Something that popped up over night was a from senior cabinet minister michael gove, saying he thought that singles tennis and golf with one other person may be possible. That is after downing street had said that Tennis Courts and golf courses will close. I am Tennis Courts and golf courses will close. Iam hearing Tennis Courts and golf courses will close. I am hearing this morning that michael gove got it wrong, that downing street is still planning to press ahead with those closures. That is an update for you on that subject. Another issue which i think will be discussed quite a lot today as labour brings an urgent question to the house of commons, is furlough. Chancellor rishi sunak has decided to extend furlough, paying people up to 80 of their wages where businesses are forced to close. Questions last night as to whether wales, scotland and Northern Ireland decide to go into a love that in future, whether workers they would also get 80 furlough payments. Going to lockdown. Borisjohnson seems to have confirmed they would but we havent had confirmation out. That will be hammered out this morning at the Cabinet Meeting and later today at the house of commons. Jessica, thank you. With reference to michael gove and the golf and tennis, we have had so many questions about what you can and cant do in england and the lockdown and cant do in england and the lockd own starts and cant do in england and the lockdown starts on thursday. Well try to get you some answers when we speak to our panel of experts just after eight. We will try to go through some of the main questions we have. Thank you for all of those. A spokesman for ryan giggs has denied allegations of an assault made against him. It follows reports in National Newspapers that officers with the Greater Manchester police we re with the Greater Manchester police were called to reports of a disturbance on sunday and a man was arrested. In a statement, a representative for the wales football manager said he was co operating with police and will assist them with Ongoing Investigations. The wales fa have cancelled a News Conference later today. The polls will open in the us later this morning, as voters choose between President Donald Trump and his democratic challengerjoe biden. Businesses in the nations capital, washington dc, and in new york city, have been seen boarding up their premises due to concerns about unrest after the vote. Our washington correspondent, ben wright, is in washington dc this morning. Ben, both candidates have spent the final hours of the race delivering their closing pitch in critical states. You were saying earlier that donald trump, you felt, was still talking, trying to persuade those people who will be voting in the next few hours . Yeah, hes stopped now though, dan, dont worry. He wrapped up though, dan, dont worry. He wrapped up the final rally in michigan. Going well into the night. He has had a remorseless schedule of rallies in the last few days. Pretty packed crowds of enthusiastic supporters have been the bread and butter of his campaign as he tries to rally his base in the final days of this election. He knows he is behind in the polls but he is telling his supporters to ignore those, he is confident of pulling off another surprise as he did four years ago. The Campaign Events joe did four years ago. The Campaign Eventsjoe biden did four years ago. The Campaign Events joe biden has did four years ago. The Campaign Eventsjoe biden has been having are different in feel and tone. They have been socially distanced. They have been socially distanced. They have been socially distanced. They have been drive through rallies. And his message has been one of unity and wanting to bring the country back together and get on top of the pandemic. They are starkly different candidates offering very different messages. And that has been the case throughout the final weeks of this campaign. But we should also remember that voting has been going on for weeks. A wrecking a record breaking 100 million americans have already cast their ballots. An extraordinary number. Counting on those postal ballots could take some time, which is why we might have to wait longer than normalfor a final we might have to wait longer than normal for a final result. Ok, we might have to wait longer than normalfor a final result. Ok, ben. Thank you. I think there will be many people in the uk watching the coverage overnight and throughout tomorrow morning, something we will be looking at very closely on brea kfast be looking at very closely on breakfast tomorrow. A slightly different programme tomorrow. Yes, i think the coverage starts at half past 11 tonight, and we will carry on. 12 minutes past seven. Matt has a double rainbow. Good morning. A few of these around this morning. They will be some around into the afternoon as well. But overall it will turn drier. The rest of the week looking much drier thanit rest of the week looking much drier than it has been. Welcome news for those who have suffered flooding. It will be chilly. The batch of rain we have got across parts of the midlands and southern england, pretty heavy. A rumble of thunder too. Cloud and rain across much of scotland. That will ease off in the morning. Rain clearing the east coast of england by lunchtime. Then really most of the country is a story of sunshine and showers. Perhaps not as many showers as we saw yesterday, particularly across parts of scotland, Northern Ireland and northern england. They will be on the heavy side, particular towards the west. Temperatures in single figures, a cool day. The winds are not as strong as recently. Quite blustery but they will ease down. At the same across england and wales. A few showers around. The odd heavy one. You cant doubt the odd rumble of thunder towards the north west. Drive through tonight. Outbreaks of rain in scotland. Clear skies elsewhere. Light winds, a cold night tonight. Widespread frost, particularly for england and wales, into tomorrow. More frost in the next few days. Notice the city forecasts. Most forecasts. M ost pla ces forecasts. Most places are staying dry. Back to you. You sound incredibly surprised by that thank you. Its just nice thank you. Stop the last minute scramble and come up with a six month plan thats the plea to rishi sunak from labour this morning. Theyre claiming that despite extending the furlough scheme, the chancellors lack of a Long Term Strategy is risking lives and jobs. The shadow chancellor is anneliese dodds, and shejoins us now. Thank you very much. Good to talk to you as ever. Lets talk around that issue. I know that generally you are supporting the lockdown. Did you see the quotes from the outgoing director general of the cbi, who said businesses faced a bleak midwinter with a second lockdown . Do you accept these measures, they are going to be catastrophic for some industries and individuals . Absolutely, theyre going to be very difficult indeed for huge numbers of businesses. Any restrictions have a cost. In fact, thats why labour is calling for a short circuit breaker, which could have taken place over the half term, therefore being more effective and less damaging. Obviously that is water under the bridge. The government did not seize that chance. Now we are going to be having a longer lockdown, u nfortu nately, having a longer lockdown, unfortunately, because i didnt use that opportunity. And yes, it will have a big impact onjobs that opportunity. And yes, it will have a big impact on jobs and businesses. But that impact can be reduced if at least there is certainty around what support will be available in the future depending on the kinds of scenarios we might face. U nfortu nately on the kinds of scenarios we might face. Unfortunately right now, we have got very, very last minute decision making. The furlough scheme, for example, being changed five hours before it was due to close, apparently the situation for self employed people being forgotten about until yesterday. We cant continue with this lack of planning. And yet the government would say, im sure robertjenrick would say this in 15 minutes, they are responding to a fast moving situation . Well, the situation is fast moving. I think there is a question about whether theyre responding or whether they are being dragged along by events. It would have made more sense for them to have made more sense for them to have acted decisively without circuit break, but as i said, thats water under the bridge. We are where are now. The government can minimise that uncertainty by saying, right, if there are, for example, areas of the country that they deem have to stay under restrictions after this lockdown, here is what support they will get. If, for example, the government is to extend the lough dan, who is the support that would be provided. Instead of the Prime Minister said in the house of commons yesterday, that kind of information would only be available just before the changes came in. This is making a difficult situation far worse. Its costing jobs and incomes right across the country and the government can do something about this. I think the last time we spoke to you on this programme you are petitioning rishi sunak to extend the furlough scheme. That has now taken place. Do you welcome that move . Well, ithink now taken place. Do you welcome that move . Well, i think it was necessary for the government to face up to the fa ct for the government to face up to the fact that their approach to protecting peoples incomes was simply not going to work. Its a real shame it has taken so long, that we have had such a confused situation. Think about hospitality workers at the end of last week. They didnt know whether the following week they were going to be paid at 80 , which is what has ended up paid at 80 , which is what has ended up happening, or at 67 or 73 because of the different versions of weight support of the government had put forward. This is a complete mess. Yes, of course i welcome the continuation of that weight support, but now we need a plan, we need a plan from the chancellor for the next six months. Depending on the different scenarios our country faces. That is what we have got in other countries. Its what businesses and working people deserve in the uk. If you are calling for a six month plan, can i ask you what your six month plan would be . If you give me some detail, that would be great, and how you would cost it. Absolutely. We need the government setting out the different scenarios for the future. They havent ruled out, for example, different parts of the country remaining in restrictions after this lockdown. Nor indeed have they ruled out a continuation of that lockdown. But they seem to have suggested that the furlough support would end at the furlough support would end at the beginning of december, no matter what. I think thats a mistake. I think the government need to be clear that there would be continued wage support if necessary. I think they need to spell out in black and white what support would be provided to different local areas. That being com pletely to different local areas. That being completely non tra nspa rent. We to different local areas. That being completely non transparent. We have had these negotiations that have been full of conflicts, that have been full of conflicts, that have been a mess, that have gummed up the system. They need to have written down in black and white what support different local areas would get if they are under different restrictions. It is notjust labour calling for this. Businesses are as well. They simply cant plan if they dont know what income they will be having. Obviously the closures impose a huge amount of uncertainty, but there if there is even more uncertainty because they dont know what support they will be getting from the government from week to week in many cases, that makes a difficult situation was. Ok, good to talk to you. Thank you very much. Anneliese dodds, shadow chancellor, live in breakfast. The Prime Minister has warned that the nhs in england could be overwhelmed if the country does not go back into lockdown for four weeks. But some hospitals have already seen a huge increase in the number of coronavirus patients. Liverpool University Hospitals Foundation Trust is treating around a50 people with covid thats more than at the peak of the pandemic in april. Our medical editor, fergus walsh, has been speaking to patients and staff there. If youre wondering how the nhs might struggle this winter, look no further than liverpool. Staff at the Royal Liverpool say theyre under more pressure now than in the spring. And its notjust this city. In the past week, around ten critically ill patients had to be transferred between hospitals in the cheshire and mersey region, because units ran out of beds. It is extremely concerning. It is a symptom of the stress the system is under. It is a big warning to us all. We do not normally see these numbers of non clinical transfers. The nation is no longer clapping for carers. That shared moment of solidarity is gone. Now theres disagreement over whether restrictions are needed. I get why people are frustrated, and i get why people are angry. We see it on a different level being here in intensive care. Were seeing people who are sick, really sick. Patients are dying of covid. Not everybody in the community sees that, so i understand the disbelief. Health Service Leaders were determined to keep all Services Going this winter. But liverpool University Hospitals have cancelled nearly all nonurgent surgery, such as joint replacements and hernia repairs. Half the operating theatres across liverpool University Hospitals, like this one, are closed due to covid 19, mostly so that staff can be redeployed to intensive care. So coronavirus is impacting on patients with a whole range of medical conditions. Most Cancer Treatment is continuing as normal, but the shortage of intensive care beds has meant a few urgent cancer operations have had to be postponed. Staff say its devastating for patients, and warned things will get worse unless the virus is kept in check. Were very close to the limits of what liverpool hospitals can cope with, in terms of the number of patients with covid in the hospitals, and particularly what we can cope with without having to postpone more of those urgent surgical procedures. Jay is just 44, a freelance writer. Hes had blood clots on his lungs due to covid. His breathing is still laboured. You cant take it as a joke or something. You could get something serious. All the doctors, nurses and patients i met had the same message. Dont dismiss coronavirus, dont neglect hand hygiene, and above all, keep social distancing. These are the fundamentals behind controlling covid this winter. Fergus walsh, bbc news, liverpool. Lets speak to fergus now. Good morning. Thank you forjoining us. Good morning. Thank you forjoining us. I know youve been so close to this story from the beginning. Somebody there talked about liverpool being close to the limit. Are there other hospitals in a similar situation . There is nowhere which is struggling as much as the two acute hospitals in liverpool, the royal and aintree university. There are a few hospitals that have started to stop some elective, nonurgent surgery, but liverpool really is in the eye of the storm. The main hospital, the royal right in the heart of the city, is very old. Its crumbling. Its replacement is already three years overdue and wont be open for another two years. They have got some infrastructure problems. They are also struggling with staff sickness. So a real problem in liverpool. And in a sense, i suppose the government would say its an example of what it fears could happen around the country unless we go into lockdown. Fergus, we have spoken to many times in the past few months and i know that during the height of the pandemic in the early months of the year, you spend quite a lot of time in intensive care units. Did you notice a difference, or what would you say is comparable between then and what youve seen recently . There are positives. Back in april doctors really didnt know how to treat this brand new disease, which was ravishing ravaging the lungs and causing inflammation throughout the body and leaving people desperately ill and claiming many lives. Now they have a much better idea. We have drugs, like dexamethasone, we have got anti clotting medicine because it causes sticky blood, leading to strokes and other problems. And doctors and medical now far how to treat this. There was evidence of that when i was on the intensive ca re that when i was on the intensive care unit in liverpool. When you have the numbers coming in, that is where the problem is. I was in newcastle the week before. And they are, the situation was quite different because they didnt have that many covid patients. So they werent under stress. It is really very patchy in the uk at the moment. Some cities beginning to struggle. And like liverpool. And others are still quite quiet. What about Nightingale Hospital is, what is happening with them . Well, the Nightingale Hospitals are being dusted down and they can be used again. There is the problem though about staffing. Intensive care units and the teams there are very tight knit. Its where you get those intensive care nurses from, particularly. In liverpool what they have done is they have shut half the theatres, around 20 operating theatres, around 20 operating theatres have shut, so that the nurses there, whose job theatres have shut, so that the nurses there, whosejob is normally to help keep those patients co mforta ble to help keep those patients comfortable while theyre sedated and having surgery, theyve been transferred to intensive care and theyre working there. But its not entirely transferable skill. Those intensive care nurses are really the ones who are most needed. Its a question of staff. The Nightingale Hospitals can help, but its fundamentally an issue of staffing. Fergus was, thank you very much as everfor fergus was, thank you very much as ever for talking to fergus was, thank you very much as everfor talking to us. Fergus was, thank you very much as ever for talking to us. We have got a communities minister Robert Jenrick coming up very shortly on bbc breakfast. Time now to get the news, travel and weather where you are. Good morning from bbc london, im tolu adeoye. London councils are asking the government to give them more money and responsibility over track and trace. Hammersmith and Fulham Council has started its own system, which has been praised. The nhs says they are concentrating on delivering a National System and working closely with local authorities. The government needs to think differently. Its thought about big companies, costing a lot of money, doing big and we now know not very succesful things. And it now needs to take the system, take the funding and the investment, and put it in local authorities, because what were doing, were reaching 88 of these so called unreachables at the moment. What were doing is working. Unions are calling for parliament to return to online voting to reduce the risk of spreading the virus in westminster. Sincejune, mps have been able to contribute to debates virtually, but theyve had to vote in person. Jacob rees mogg, the leader of the house, has previously said there is no law and no local lockdown that can stop mps from attending parliament. Afc wimbledon will play their first competitive game at their new stadium tonight. Its been builtjust a few hundred yards from their original home on plough lane, costing £30 million and seating more than 9,000 people. But its bittersweet with fans still unable to attend matches. Wimbledons Football Team will be playing on wimbledons football pitch again, and thats absolutely amazing and incredible. But this wont be open, we wont be back home until we can have every Single Person that deserves to be in here, here, watching our fantastic team play. Lets take a look at the travel situation now. Theres a good service on the tubes this morning. On the roads the aa06 is slow from Staples Corner to neasden. Thats because one lane is closed for roadworks. Cricklewood lane is closed between cricklewood station and the broadway because of roadworks. Finally, in sidcup north cray road is closed from ruxley corner to st james way for roadworks. It should stay dry, lighter winds, lots of sunshine, expect to see a bit of fog on thursday. Im back with the latest from bbc london in an hour. Hello, this is breakfast with Louise Minchin and dan walker. Lets get you up to date with the news. Regular coronavirus tests are going to be offered to everyone in liverpool from the end of this week, in the governments first mass testing pilot involving a whole city. The armed forces will help carry out rapid turnaround tests on about half a Million People who live or work in liverpool, even if they dont have symptoms. We can speak now to the communities secretary robertjenrick. Good morning. And thank you for joining us. Lets talk about your plans with liverpool. How will it work and how many people a day are you planning to test . We will offer eve ryo ne you planning to test . We will offer everyone who lives in liverpool the opportunity to be tested regularly, whether they have symptoms or they are asymptomatic. We will make it a simple and accessible as possible, so simple and accessible as possible, so you will be able to order them online and have ones go to your home, do walk by tests, as well, and we will use the armed forces. From thursday, there will be 2000 personnel in and around the city ensuring there are more mobile testing units and they are testing in important settings like schools, universities, the nhs, care homes, workplaces. This will mean we will be able to get on top of the virus faster, understand where there are positive cases and ask those people to self isolate and to properly Contact Trace everyone they have beenin Contact Trace everyone they have been in contact with, and to get a better picture of what is happening with the virus, where it is in the city. If this is a success, and i hope it will be and the people of liverpool will get behind it, we will look to roll it out in other towns and cities and make millions more of these rapid tests available before christmas. Use a rapid test, how soon will they get back to people . There will be some of the now well established swab test, but we will also use a test where you get the result within an hour and they do not need to go to a lab. That is a breakthrough. It means he will have the test results pretty much immediately and then you can ta ke much immediately and then you can take action accordingly, you will be asked to self isolate and you can begin contact tracing. This will really get control of the virus in places like liverpool. How many of the tests do you actually have . There is no limit on the number available. I am asking how many you have at the moment. I do not know the exact number available, but the offer to the people of liverpool is clear. Anyone can be tested regardless of whether you have symptoms or not and we will make available enough Testing Capacity to do that on a regular basis. We have over 500,000 tests available across the country every day now and that is rising fast, in order to roll this kind of model out to other cities, we will have to ramp it up fast as we approach christmas. The Prime Minister set the objective of having a million tests available every day very soon. If we can make a su ccess every day very soon. If we can make a success of this, i think it will be an important weapon in the arsenal to tackle the virus. Be an important weapon in the arsenal to tackle the virusm be an important weapon in the arsenal to tackle the virus. If it had been a success, the tested tray system, would we be in this situation, entering a second lockdown . The test and tray system. It has had an impact. It has enabled over three quarters of a Million People to be contacted, to self isolate, to give Contact Details and ensure further tracing. We know many have not been contacted. Some have not been contacted. Some have not been contacted but we are using the National Scheme with local tracing, which is one of the good things that has come out of the regional approach in recent weeks, working with local councils, so many parts of the country now are doing a fantastic job at of the country now are doing a fantasticjob at doing their own contact tracing, supported and funded by central government. Now what we are seeing is the mass testing approach piloted in liverpool, which came out of those productive conversations we had with the mayor of liverpool, joe anderson, and the mayor of the city region, stephen rotherham. Steve rotheram. And if it works i would like to see it used in other cities. There have been various problems with test and trace. Borisjohnson said injune he wanted to have 2a hours, the return time for people getting results, but at the moment it is about 39 hours. The difference here, remember, is the scale. We are offering everybody in the whole city the opportunity to be regularly tested, including the asymptomatic. We know the virus passes from the asymptomatic as well as those with symptoms, so that is an important element of getting control over the virus. And it will be in the important way to build confidence in schools, saying to parents and young people it is safe to go back to school, and two teachers working in them, and important in workplaces. Although we are saying work from home if you can, many people will continue to go to work because they cannot work from home, in manufacturing, construction, food processing, and in those workplaces, beginning in liverpool on thursday, we will be able to have mass testing to give greater certainty those are safe places to work and if we find outbreaks, to bear down on them fast, which is an approach seen in other countries where they have cracked testing and tracing. That is what we want to see happening across the country at speed. On isolating, it is about 20 25 estimated to isolate for 15 days when asked to buy test and trace. When you change that timeframe . We keep these things under review. We do not have a plan to do that. Would it help our macro people to isolate if it was not such a long time . It might be more attractive to people, but we have to ta ke attractive to people, but we have to take advice from the scientists whether that would be effective. There is no point doing something thatis there is no point doing something that is not in line with medical and scientific advice. What we have done is put in place further Financial Support so those people making difficult financial choices, can they afford to stay at home for two weeks . That they are able to be supported, which is why the £500 payment is there so people will be eligible for that and that provides extra Financial Support on people on low incomes. We do not want people to be faced with the invidious choice of doing the right thing in terms of the virus and putting food on the table for your family. You are looking at it, but you are not about to change the timeframe in which people have to self isolate . We do not have a plan to do that, but we keep everything under review as you would expect. Talking about under review, there seems to be confusion about grassroots sport. Lets talk about tennis and golf. Are they allowed . They will not be allowed to for the period of these tougher National Measures. I appreciate arguments made that they are outdoors, in small groups, sometimesjust are outdoors, in small groups, sometimes just with one other person. But, for simplicity and clarity, the regulations that will be laid today and voted on tomorrow in the house of commons will ask people to refrain from those sports until the 2nd of december. We hope, at that point, we will be able to exit National Measures if we have made progress and then in parts of the country people will be able to return to sport like that. Michael gove got this wrong and is apologising this morning, saying he got it wrong, and outdoor facilities will be closed from thursday. You are trying to make everybody abide by the rules and michael gove does not get them right. The regulations will be available later today and voted on tomorrow in parliament. And then there will be detailed questions and answers available on the government website and we will pass it out through local councils and others to ensure everybody has access to the right information. It isa access to the right information. It is a fast moving situation, the decision was announced at the weekend by the Prime Minister and we have worked at pace through the many questions people will have now we wa nt to questions people will have now we want to put the clearest possible information into the public domain. For areas i information into the public domain. Forareas i am information into the public domain. For areas i am responsible for like the housing market, we have a clear message you can move home, take part in different aspects, such as viewings of homes, working with removal men to remove your belongings, but if you do that you have to follow guidance we have published to do it as safely possible. I know this is not necessarily where your brief is, but lets continue the conversation about sport. There is concern from different parts of sport, particularly about Mental Health issues of people not being able to do sport. What about swimming pools . Indoor and outdoor leisure will be closed until the 2nd of december. I appreciate it is disappointing to people, but there are differences to the National Measures we had in march and april that will benefit people, for example, you are able to do unlimited outdoor exercise during the period, so we are not going back to the time when there was only one walk a day for a limited period. You can go out with your household, or one other person, walk the dog, go for a one other person, walk the dog, go fora run, go one other person, walk the dog, go for a run, go for a walk around the town or city where you live, or into the countryside. There is some greater freedom than in the previous lockdown. Unfortunately, if we are going to make a success of these National Measures, they have to restrict the amount of interaction we have with others and that means ensuring we restrict the amount of competitive, team sport going on, andi competitive, team sport going on, and i appreciate that is not a choice anyone would want to be making but we are doing it for the right reasons and if we were not doing this, there is a risk the nhs in all parts of the country could be overrun in a couple of weeks. In all parts of the country could be overrun in a couple of weekslj think i heard you say outside you can be one Household Plus one other person. Is that right . Yes, that is right. So a family could go for walk with for example a friend . Yes. Four people and one person, that is right . Yes, you can go out in your own household or with one other person. Can i ask about childrens sport. There is concern, and this is from one viewer with others saying children can be allowed to sit in a classroom, play sport at school but not outside school. How does that make sense . We have prioritised education. That was an important decision, i think, education. That was an important decision, ithink, because education. That was an important decision, i think, because there is no substitute to face to face teaching in the classroom with your teachers. All the support teachers give to children, particularly vulnerable children. As a parent, i know it is difficult to home school and it is not a substitute for being backin and it is not a substitute for being back in the classroom, so i think thatis back in the classroom, so i think that is the right decision and we urge people to help us to ensure eve ryo ne urge people to help us to ensure everyone goes to school throughout this period. And with going to school comes taking part in activities within the school setting, including playing sport, and doing other things at lunchtime. But that is distinct to children playing sport perhaps outside of school, perhaps with other children they do not mix with in their own bubble, class, in anothersetting. So we are asking that kind of extracurricular sport to be paused until the 2nd of december. But the usual activities young people would do in school would continue. Lets look to the future. December the 2nd is the date the government says the lockdown ends. Will it end then . That is our hope and expectation. We did not want to be doing these measures, we wanted to continue the proportionate, regionalapproach measures, we wanted to continue the proportionate, regional approach for as long as possible, but the evidence was stark with respect to nhs capacity in particular, that we would see hospitals overwhelmed within a couple of weeks. If these measures have the effect we expect, we will exit them on the 2nd of december, we will return to the tiered approach at that point, looking at the data on what it says about different parts of the country, and able to ease restrictions accordingly at that point in time. We had the daily News Conferences in the previous lockdown, will it happen again . I do not think there is a plan to do that, but the Prime Minister, scientific advisers, will do everything to keep the public informed and updated in the days and weeks ahead. You saw that the Prime Minister addressed the nation over the weekend and i am sure he will ta ke the weekend and i am sure he will take other opportunities to do so in the future. I appreciate your time. Robertjenrick, thank you. Louise was talking to robertjenrick about what michael gove has said and he has tweeted clarification himself. Sally in the past hour played a clip from him speaking last night saying there might be potential exemptions for tennis and golf. Jessica parker said she heard from number 10 it was not the case and michael gove has clarified that, tweeting saying, my apologies, i got it wrong, outdoor Leisure Facilities will be closed from thursday. We will be closed from thursday. We will talk about that throughout the programme. Heres matt with a look at this mornings weather. Good morning. It is a cold start this morning and some nasty downpours, as well. It is a story of sunshine and blustery showers. More of you will become drier into the afternoon. There is a trend to something drier through the second half of the week. This is High Pressure set to push towards us and when you see high you think of something drier, it kills off the rain clouds. And we probably need that, especially in areas that have seen that, especially in areas that have seen flooding. We have hefty downpours through the midlands, east anglia, and they will take to shift. This area are moving away from scotla nd this area are moving away from scotland but snow over the scottish highlands. Through the second half of the day, showers around particularly in the west. The odd one will be heavy and thundery but more areas drierfor one will be heavy and thundery but more areas drier for longer. The breeze uses a so light winds than yesterday. It will be colder. Temperatures in the north 8 9. Maybe 1011 temperatures in the north 8 9. Maybe 10 11 across the south. After a cold day with lengthening nights, a colder night tonight. Showers across the north of scotland. The majority try and clear and tonight will be a widespread frost, particularly across england and wales, so a chilly start tomorrow but it will be a crisp and sunny day for the vast majority. A few showers dotted around and much more cloud across the north of scotland later on. Most of you will be dry during the day. England and wales sunny. Another cold night into thursday. Different on thursday with more cloud in scotland. Across the south, we will start with dense fog and it might linger across central and southern england. If it does, temperatures will struggle to get above 7 degrees. And fog through thursday and friday, spreading a little bit further north. But overall, the story in the second half of the week is more dry weather. It will stay on the cool side. Milder in the weekend and by sunday, we should see the return of some rain. That is the uk but lets head over toward central america. The atlantic storm season is on par with 2005, the most number of storms recorded and this hurricane is the strongest of this season and pushing towards nicaragua. A devastating storm, catastrophic, with winds maver may be touching 150 mph. And the rainfor may be touching 150 mph. And the rain for what manchester gets in an entire year. We have been talking about sport today. Sally. The import issue of grassroots sports. The government ruled that all childrens sport outside school must stop for the four week lockdown period in england. Former footballer Robbie Savage, has launched a petition, calling on the government to allow supervised youth team sport to be allowed to continue. And we can speak to robbie now. Good morning. You are on the school run, so thanks for chatting to us. What do you make of this . Nonsensical, sally. I look at Oliver Dowdens tweets and there are so many inconsistencies. You have Boris Johnson looking to return on the 11th of december but you have Oliver Dowden last night saying we can get grassroots sport back when we can. Straightaway there is a mental impact on youngsters. There is no clarity. They do not have a goal to where we return so clarity. They do not have a goal to where we return so there are inconsistencies and the second point in his tweet was households mixing. Kids can mix in school. My son, i just dropped him off at the bus, and he will get on the bus with 29 other households, go to school, mix on the astrotu rf households, go to school, mix on the astroturf in his year bubble, in his year there are 150, so he could possibly mix with another hundred and 49 different households. In class, indoors, he could mix with 30 other households. After school, children congregate outside, possibly with another 100 households. In his tweet, stopping grassroots sport, pausing it, to save kids mixing with different households. It is nonsensical. To put it in perspective, in my team, under 15s, the east manchester juniorfootball league, under 15s, the east manchester junior football league, there has been since the return of grassroots sport, there has been 3300 games onto the fa guidelines and three positive cases. Three too many but it goes to show, where is the Scientific Evidence to say this horrible virus spreads in an outdoor environment in grassroots sport . I listen to the government. Do they talk to each other . How many in senior positions have stood on the sidelines in all conditions . Do they live in the real world . Sidelines in all conditions . Do they live in the realworld . Robbie, i was going to say you make a convincing point and i can hear how much detail you have gone to with all of this and how passionate you are but i have to put to you the governments point, which is there has to be a line in the sand somewhere. Sally, i understand that. Iam allfor somewhere. Sally, i understand that. I am all for school staying open. If they were to close in grassroots stop, i would get it. But the inconsistency of Oliver Dowdens tweet, to say to stop households mixing. And parents, what we have been doing as an official grassroots club, when a player enters, they have their temperature checked, everything sanitised. There is track and trace. The 23 games i have participated in, my team, there has not been a case of covid, because we do it in the proper way. One parent per child on the sideline, social distancing. They can pick or drop off, if that was the case. We have safeguard certificates, we are checked, we have coaching licenses. Tell me why the inconsistency of allowing school to continue, but thousands of youngsters youngsters and their wellbeing, they cannot participate. Kids can choose different pathways. These kids need mental and physical activity to stimulate themselves on a weekend. It is ridiculous. Robbie, do you think the government will have to change their mind on this . Will take . Ido change their mind on this . Will take . I do not know. At times you have to ask yourself do they talk to each other, do they know what they are doing . It is nonsensical and it winds me up. I dont get it. Ifeel sorry for generations of kids who cannot play grassroots sport, i am not just talking football cannot play grassroots sport, i am notjust talking football but cannot play grassroots sport, i am not just talking football but all sports. The inconsistency of allowing schools to stay open, which is right, education is important. But to tell youngsters they cannot play, mix households on a weekend, with their kids. Kids in different backgrounds, deprived areas, that is their pathway. That is what they wa nt to their pathway. That is what they want to do. Even for the Mental Wellbeing of grassroots volunteers, pa rents, wellbeing of grassroots volunteers, parents, so many people are stressed at this minute with the situation. The financial situation. I have spoken to hundreds and thousands of grassroots people. The coaches, that is their mental release at weekends, to see their teams. To score does not matter, it is about the youngsters being able to get out in the fresh air. Outdoors. I want to see the Scientific Evidence to say how covid is spread in an Outdoor Arena in grassroots sport. |j how covid is spread in an Outdoor Arena in grassroots sport. I dont get it. It is great to hear you talk passionately about something i know is important to you and lots of pa rents is important to you and lots of parents who will be watching this morning. Robbie savage explaining why he thinks it is important children should be allowed to continue to play sport outside school. This is a statement from the government last night, saying we recognise how important exercises for physical and Mental Health which is why it has been an essential activity under the restrictions, but outdoor exercise will be permitted alone, with your household, or one person from another household, so people are able to stay active safely. That is what the government is saying. Sally, thank you and we will continue with that throughout the programme. And keeping your children entertained can be a challenge. And it could prove even trickier during lockdown. But comedian alex horne best known for setting celebrities weird and wonderful challenges on the tv series taskmaster might have found a solution with his series of online videos. Well speak to alex in a moment but first. Lets take a look. Camouflage yourself and then reveal yourself. Please dont misinterpret reveal yourself. Music plays. Everything is all right. What a groovy mover. That is an example of how inventive people can be when troubling time is come upon us. We can speak now to alex horne. You must have been impressed with the creativity of some of those. You must have been impressed with the creativity of some of thosem was a ray of light in lockdown one. Iam was a ray of light in lockdown one. I am always hoping when we look back and it is all over, we will have fond memories and for me, i hopefully was providing relief for some people but they were mainly cheering me up. Were you surprised by the creativity . I suppose i was. In our telly programme we have comedians on rather than members of the public because comedians are meant to be funny but it turns out the public are often more creative than we comedians. It was always led by children, i suppose. It was heartening to see families get together and getting off the sofa and doing something stupid for an hourin and doing something stupid for an hour in the day. I was surprised but really gladdened. In terms of ideas to make sure it runs this time around, was it an easy decision . It worked first time, you know some will struggle in lockdown two, lets run it again and make sure we can keep it going . We said if the school shot we would do this. The reason we did it while some parents got in touch saying we are home schooling, can you provide some light relief with home tasks. Obviously the schools, they are back at school, but we will keep doing them every week or two, because the amount of feedback we get saying it provides a spark of light and some distraction, i suppose. It is not a hard decision to keep going. It makes my life better. It is purely selfish. We are seeing various challenges. This is turning your bathroom into a party room, which is a brilliant idea. People turn their houses upside down. It is amazing what they do. I set a challenge and it is like throwing a hand grenade into somebodys bathroom. They go mad. Throwing a hand grenade into somebodys bathroom. They go madm is unbelievable. One of my favourites is when you asked people to camouflage themselves. Yes. I am amazed by the lengths people go to. There is no real prize. If you do well you might get in a montage on the Youtube Channel and that is enough for people. To be part of the community we have created. Kids want to see what other kids have done and pa rents to see what other kids have done and pa re nts wa nt to see what other kids have done and parents want to see inside other peoples houses i was surprised every week. Ourjob is easy. We said do something surprising with a pair of trousers, turn your bed into something that is not a bed, and off they went every week. That is the beauty of it, the idea, particularly if you have children, the entertainment that can get you through the dark times. Yes, and i dont know about you, having someone tell you what to do helps. If you wa ke tell you what to do helps. If you wake up and you have been told by greg davies this is what you are doing today, it gives you a sense of purpose for the day, and it is the same with families who say they will go on same with families who say they will goona same with families who say they will go on a walk, have a movie night, having a plan helps. This is a stupid plan we can give you. We go into lockdown two, and it is different this time in england. Schools and universities are open. But what are your top tips to find a way through the next month . My wife is very organised. I am not. She has already planned our four weekends. We know what we are doing. We are having a movie night, we will have a treasure trail set in the garden for the kids. They will fall apart and will not work, but we make sure we know. The kids have decided a meal they want to make each. We plan to many things so we will not get bored. We will get cross with each other, obviously, but we willjust keep busy. And we will make sure we get off the screens occasionally and get off the screens occasionally and get outside, even if it is raining and do stupid things. And even board games, which we all have on our shelves and do not get out. We said we will have a board game weekend. There will be arguments, but at least we will be doing something. Alex horne, thank you. Dont forget, taskmaster is back on tv and brilliant. Stay with us, headlines coming up. Good morning, welcome to breakfast with Louise Minchin and dan walker. Our headlines today a terror attack in the austrian capital vienna three people have been killed, many are injured and at least one attacker could still be at large. Regular coronavirus tests for everyone in liverpool in the governments first mass testing pilot involving a whole city. Were looking at the impact of lockdown on grassroots sport. Childrens sport, outside of school, will have to stop for the four weeks. And the government is resisting calls for golf and tennis to be allowed to continue. Good morning. They have been investing and inventing to keep the cash flowing through a long winter of restrictions, but what happens now . Four weeks without customers coming through the doors, maybe even longer. Voting day in the us president ial elections as millions head to the polls businesses in the major cities take precautions against violence in the aftermath. And there may be a few downpours around at the moment but the showers will become fewer in number and there is something drier and brighter on the horizon. I will have all the details. Its tuesday november the 3rd. Our main story. A major security operation has been going on through the night in austria after gunmen armed with automatic rifles opened fire outside busy cafes and restaurants in the centre of vienna. Three people were killed and at least 1a were wounded. One heavily armed gunman was shot dead at the scene, another has been arrested, but its thought at least one other has managed so far to escape the police. Mark lobel reports. Austrian police order people to take cover. News of an incident emerged just before eight last night, with reports of several gunmen armed with rifles opening fire in six locations. One witness recalls what he saw. We didnt know whats going on, to be honest. Austrias interior minister described this as the hardest day for the country for several years. As the manhunt continues for at least one heavily armed and dangerous attacker, the special forces are also looking beyond the capital. Mark lobel, bbc news. Lets speak to our security correspondent frank gardner. Good morning. Frank, what more do we know aout this attack . This is what is known in the jargon asa this is what is known in the jargon as a marauding terrorist attack, which involves more than one gunman Walking Around or running or jogging. Walking around or running or jogging, heavily armed with ammunition, pretty similar, if you remember, to the mumbai attack 12 yea rs remember, to the mumbai attack 12 years ago which took a huge number of lies. The Austrian Police and particularly the special forces closed this down very quickly and the borders are being checked, the authorities are searching the boarders, doing random checks, in case anybody is trying to escape. Fairly early on the austrian authorities had said it points to an islamist inspired attack, they had searched the home of the dead gunman who was wearing a fake suicide belt and will reportedly austrian media has said he was a 20 year old of albanian origin. They have recovered a lot of material, the police are going through around 20,000 videos that people have given them to try to identify exactly who the attackers were and how many of them. It is an Ongoing Investigation and, frankly, still a little confusing at this moment. Sorry, frank, that is what i was going to ask you, i remember speaking to you about another incident like this in europe and other parts of the world, it is the intensity of the investigation in these hours which is crucial . They will want to know of anybody else was behind this, whether it was an organised attack. Once we have seen an organised attack. Once we have seenin an organised attack. Once we have seen in france, horrific as they have been, have been lone wolf attacks, one Single Person, radicalised, inspired perhaps by outside but not necessarily directed and organised. This appears much more organised, closer to Something Like the bataclan in france and mumbai 12 years ago, and therefore more worrying. Thank you for your expert analysis, frank gardner. Regular coronavirus tests are going to be offered to everyone in liverpool from the end of this week, in the governments first mass testing pilot involving a whole city. The armed forces will help carry out rapid turn around tests on about half a Million People who live or work in liverpool, even if they dont have symptoms. The mayor of liverpooljoe anderson said there would be new testing points right across the city. Theyre going to be outside some hospitals, going to be outside the universities, going to be outside our schools. Going to have mobile units going to care homes as well into other places where we see a spike or an increase in covid 19 activity. More details on englands lockdown are expected from the govrnment later. Our Political CorrespondentJessica Parker is in downing street for us this morning, and they seem to be still working on their message, dont they . Lots of questions to be answered . There is confusion on a couple of topics, really, what is and about golf and tennis. Downing street were pretty insistent yesterday that golf and Tennis Courts would close and the Cabinet Office minister michael gove plus 19 to suggest they were looking at whether singles tennis outside and golf with one other person would be possible. I was hearing that michael gove got it wrong and he has tweeted to say as much in the last hour, he said, my apologies, i got this wrong, outdoor leisure activities including Tennis Courts and golf courses will be closed from thursday. And he points to the guidance online which people can look at. Another topic under discussion is what the new rules will mean for meeting people out and about. Here is communities secretary robertjenrick. You about. Here is communities secretary Robert Jenrick. You can about. Here is communities secretary robertjenrick. You can go out about. Here is communities secretary Robert Jenrick. You can go out with your own household, your own hotel plus one other person, walk the job, go for a plus one other person, walk the job, go fora run, plus one other person, walk the job, go for a run, go for a walk around the town or city where you live walk the dog. I heard you say outside you can be one Household Plus one other person, is that what you mentioned is that right . Ok, so a family could go for a walk with for example a friend . Yes. So for people and one person . Thats right . Yes, so you can go out in your own household or with one other person. If that seems a little bit confusing, my understanding is you can meet one on one with somebody, you cannot have a whole household to somebody unless they are in your support bubble. Something else robertjenrick has been speaking about is furlough, borisjohnson was pressed a lot yesterday on whether plans to extend the furlough scheme in england over the coming months, whether its scotland, wales and Northern Ireland in teacher thought it was necessary to have their own logjam, would they also get 80 furlough, he suggested they would, robertjenrick this morning seem to suggest it would be a decision for the chancellor thought it was necessary to have their own lockdown. Studio thank you very much. A spokesman for ryan giggs has denied allegations of assault. It followed reports in National Newspapers that officers with Greater Manchester police were called to reports of a disturbance on sunday and a man was arrested. In a statement, a representative for the wales football manager said he was co operating with police and will assist them with Ongoing Investigations. The wales fa have cancelled a News Conference due later today. He was due to an unsafe squad. Forthcoming games. Due to announce his squad for forthcoming games. The polls will open in the us later this morning as voters choose between President Donald Trump and his democratic challengerjoe biden. Businesses in the nations capital, washington dc, and in new york city have been seen boarding up their premises due to concerns about unrest after the vote. Our washington ccrrespondent, ben wright, is in washington dc this morning. Good to speak to you. Both candidates have been busy and there are some frantic others ahead . Yes, and are strangely about this election is that on one hand there is Great National acceleration about eight, there is great enthusiasm to votes, almost 100 million americans have already cast a ballot early, in pa rt have already cast a ballot early, in part because of covid and not wanting to stand in line all day today, but it is evident that people wa nt today, but it is evident that people want their say and this deeply polarised country. You also have quite a strong sense of unease shrouding the us at the moment about what might happen after election day, how long it might take to get a result, whether the incumbent president might try to hold on longer than he should, there is a lot of uncertainty which makes it a com pletely lot of uncertainty which makes it a completely unique president ial election with a vast amount at sta ke, election with a vast amount at stake, but the candidates have been campaigning to the wire, i think donald trump posted 23 rallies in the last week trying to shore up his pace, joe biden spent a huge amount of time, particularly in pennsylvania, as he tries to campaign ina pennsylvania, as he tries to campaign in a way which might piece together his electoral pass to the white house. He is ahead in the polls, the table wrong four years ago, so it will be nail biting. Louise, you are all over the coverage, you will be ready for it . Yes, i will be staying up. I dont know if i will be staying up, but the coverage will continue until 1pm tomorrow, so bbc breakfast will be slightly different, there will be a lot of the election. Heres matt with a look at this mornings weather. What do you have for us . Some snow in the scottish highlands, an indication that it is colder, there is some sleep on the moors of england. Some nasty downpours, drg rumble of thunder, centre in central scotla nd rumble of thunder, centre in Central Scotland which will move towards the north sea. Overall you will all see sunshine at times today, sky is frightening, showers into the afternoon, around the north and west of scotla nd afternoon, around the north and west of scotland especially this guy is brightening, showers into the afternoon. Even if the winds are strong and dusty they will ease. Heavy, thundery showers in places, hit and heavy, thundery showers in places, hitand miss, heavy, thundery showers in places, hit and miss, some staying dry, a colder day towards the south and east, temperatures may be ten or 11. Most of the showers will sate this evening and overnight, some isolated ones towards western counties of england and wales, with clear skies elsewhere it will be a cold start to tomorrow morning, widespread frost for england and wales, more frost over the next unite, but look at the forecast, most places dry with mist and fog in the morning, so a big improvement compared to the west and 20 conditions lately. In a couple of days, englands Second National lockdown comes into effect, and many things will be put on hold again. The government hopes a month of tighter restrictions will save lives and slow the spread of coronavirus, but how are people across the country feeling about the coming weeks . Breakfasts tim muffett reports. Sean typically shuts on monday, but, at his clothes shop in hull, every day of trading is now crucial. Its hard, because, obviously, its the festive period. Ive basically got to have a months trade in three days, which is pretty much impossible. So its kind of doing anything we can at the minute. As thursdays second lockdown in england approaches, down the road, there is a plot twist for book shop owner lucy. This time, shes teaming up with other independent book sellers to try to keep sales ticking over. Independent book shops from around the country are part of bookshop. Org and we all benefit from being in that together. The idea of it is to be an alternative ecosystem, for the consumer, to amazon. In southport, donnas furniture shop was covid secure, sales were on the up, and now this. Weve got such a good one way system in place, we have got all the sanitisers, the masks. We feel that we are operating quite a safe environment here for the customers to shop in. So it is a bit upsetting that, even though we have put all that together, we still have to close our doors. North norfolk has one of the lowest covid rates in england, which continues to fall. And yet, the same strict rules will apply. At the woodland holiday park, east of cromer, it looks set to be a grim winter. I think its important that everybody plays their part in the national lockdown, of course. But, for north norfolk in particular, when these rates have been so low, it is devastating for so many tourism businesses and other businesses alongside. Student life is set to become even more strange. Last weekend, in nottingham, many gathered illegally for what would typically be so commonplace. The majority of students are heeding the rules, but there is a significant minority who are actually ignoring them and thats been evidenced again over the weekend. We issued 83 tickets and they have predominantly come from five or six large house parties and gatherings. One even had a dj in the basement. That is unacceptable. People are dying and students need to get a grip of themselves properly. Weald Community School in west sussex will, like others, remain open for now. We have got a lot of Safety Measures in place, you know, masks, social distancing, when we can. So while i think it is a risk, i think it is a risk we have to take. The negative impact on childrens Mental Health greatly outweighs the pandemic, because most children wont be greatly affected by covid. School life might be continuing, but pretty much everything else, for the second time this year, is about to be put on hold. Tim muffett, bbc news. Pubs and restaurants across england will be forced to close their doors again from thursday. So how will this next stage affect businesses . Nina is in staffordshire to find out. Morning. Good morning from aston marina on the trent and mersey canal. Wouldnt this be a smashing setting to come and have some tea with another household under the previous rules, the rule of six indoors, but an outdoor space would have been allowed. They have only just invested almost £15,000 in these pods. Helen and andrew, wave to us. What is sickening is a week later these doors have to close for at least four weeks, possibly longer. Lets remind ourselves of the absolute roller coaster hospitality has been on. In march they were told to close completely under the national lockdown, in july they could reopen but with social distancing in place and as long as they assisted with track and trace. In september, the ten oclock curfew was introduced as well as the rule of six in england. In october the three tier system which meant some pubs had to close completely and mixed households were limited in lots of different parts of england. Now in november, we are going right back to march. They have had the full breaks in Northern Ireland and they will come out of it in wales and scotland may follow. It is very complicated, not just for andrew and helen but those in the supply chain. Lets talk to peter in his pod. They are nice and warm with the heating on. You supply the marina and other local businesses, what does it mean to your revenue when we get another lockdown . The initial lockdown cause problems in that we lost 85 of our business overnight. Through the summer, there has always been the threat of second lockdown and we have developed business, courted retail customers to try and make sure we can maintain our income should this eventuality occur, which it has. We are in a good position at the moment. We will still lose probably 25 of our business, but we are ina probably 25 of our business, but we are in a better position than we we re are in a better position than we were there. Thank heavens for the Government Schemes that were put in place of business such as this hopefully will be there when things open up again and we will retrieve our customers. Thank you, peter. One of those businesses pivoted in a different direction, means he is better protected but partly because of the furlough scheme. Lets talk to owen who has been running a coffee com pa ny to owen who has been running a Coffee Company that has been in the family for generations. You supply Companies Across the country, what has furlough meant to you and those businesses . Obviously for the staff, it is peace of mind that it is more security for them. From a business side it is one of our biggest costs and allows us, if we can conserve cash, even if it goes on for a period we can survive. Ultimately, bad debt in the supply chain is a big issue, especially for us. If places like aston marina here and other customers have the fellow scheme supporting them, it means we are more likely to get paid as well. So it all trickles down the supply chain. The fact it helps them to survive means it helps you to survive. As we know it will only be extended for this month as things stand, possibly for scotland, wales and Northern Ireland, if there lockdowns are brought in in the way england has been brought in, possibly the fellow will be extended. We cannot stress enough how important christmas will be. They call it the golden month to get businesses over the hump into the spring. If lockdown is extended to then, expect many more casualties. Studio thank you, nina. I know some have you have been sending in your questions about areas that are unclear. Michael gove has already apologised for getting it wrong last night when it came to potential exemptions for sport. Were joined by Public Health adviser dr lisa ackerley, and Epidemiologist Dr mike tildesley. There are so many things people want to know and get clear. Rachaels emailed because shes worried about her husband, whos an electrician working during lockdown. What precautions should he, and his customers take when hes in their house . That is a really good question, rachel. What we have to start off with, there is nothing that is risk free and even throughout the there have been covid secure guidelines put out by the government for all sorts of working environments to make sure people think about the risks and put into place and mitigation. Anyone who will have a tradesperson into the houseis will have a tradesperson into the house is have a conversation with them together and talk about what your rules are going to be. It makes it less embarrassing ringing the door bell and somebody going, put your mask on, whatever. Make sure your mask on, whatever. Make sure you will not be putting anyone at risk in terms of have you got any symptoms . In which case, you dont go. Also, the household must not have any symptoms or be self isolating. That is the first thing. Then you can think about the journey from the front door to where you are going to be working. Make sure there is lots of ventilation, make sure when you go into the house that the person steps back and ego into the room, perhaps if you are looking at a boilerfor room, perhaps if you are looking at a boiler for example, you room, perhaps if you are looking at a boilerfor example, you might be able to stay in the boiler room without anybody else around. If you are the householder, i know it is tempting to make a cup of tea and have a chat, but you want to get yourself into the different part of the building whilst the workman is doing theirjob, to protect both of you. Face coverings on both sides is important. You might think it is odd to wear a Face Covering in your own home, but it makes sense. The best thing is distance, keep your distance as much as you can. Of course, you need to think if they are going to be there for a while, they might have to use the toilet, so they might have to use the toilet, so make sure it is cleaned and disinfected before it is come. And when they leave, make sure anything that has possibly been touched is disinfected and you can use household disinfectants to do that. Perhaps the banisters, taps and the toilet, if they have been using the toilet. Have some hand sanitiser as well. Lots to think about. Mike, we have one for you. Matt wants to know how this years excess death rates compare with other years, and what does this say about covid 19 . 0k, excess deaths is really important to look at. When we look at the entire year, obviously deaths do vary throughout the year, we get a peek in the winter season when people tend to be hospitalised for many more reasons. We did see that over the early parts of this year, excess deaths were very high, mainly because of the covid pandemic. Those did go down over the summer months and when we got the virus under control we did see the number of average deaths were slightly below the average on a particular year. But in recent weeks we have started to see them climb again. It is the measure we want to look at, not just reporting the daily number of deaths we see as a result of covid but the excess deaths is the best guidance of where we are in terms of the impact of this disease. They are starting to climb in a concerning way, which is one of the reasons why we have seen these stringent lockdown policy is being introduced later this week. Lisa, we will have to be brief, so. Toni asks, if University Students travel home across the uk at the end of term in december, will it undo all the good from lockdown . It isa it is a possibility. If we get rapid testing, there might be measures in place to allow us to test students before they come home. There will be some guidance coming out when we get towards the end of term, that has been promised. So things like making sure when you do arrive home you keep out of the way, keep the ventilation up for a few days to try to reduce risks. But i think the testing will be absolutely key, if we can get that so students can go home confidently knowing they are not carrying the illness. That would be fantastic. Mike, we have one from valentine touching on something Robbie Savage talked about earlier. Valentine would like to know why his kids can sit in class with other pupils, but arent allowed to play football matches . This is a difficult one, and the risk of being outdoors is better than being in a classroom. But the risks of being in a classroom are very obvious to all. When it comes to schools, they will represent an increased risk in terms of the r number but i, like many scientists think it is important we do what we can to keep schools open. We want to do that, but unfortunately we have to make sacrifices in other areas. We are not saying playing outside is more risky than being in a classroom, but the benefits of children being in a classroom overwhelm that. We have one more. Michael says hes seen more people wearing Face Coverings than in the last lockdown so why are virus rates increasing . Actually, one of the things you have to think about is when you dont wear the Face Coverings and sit down ina group wear the Face Coverings and sit down in a group of six in a pub and go into each others houses, we have been allowing people from six different households to mix and i would say that is probably more important than whether we are wearing the Face Coverings. The Face Coverings are critical in indoor spaces and poor ventilation. We havent had that when people are sitting down in each others houses. Thank you both for getting through as many questions in the time available. Thank you for your questions as well. Every time we do it we will try and continue to do this for you. Its thought about big companies, costing a lot of money, doing big, and we now know not very succesful things. Jacob rees mogg, the leader of the house has previously said, there is no law and no local lockdown that can stop mps from attending parliament. The central line is part suspended between west ruislip and ruislip gardens because of a signal failure. On the roads the aa06 is slow from Staples Corner to neasden. Thats because one lane is closed for roadworks. Criklewood lane is closed between cricklewood station and the broadway because of roadworks. Finally in sidcup north cray road is closed from ruxley corner to st james way for roadworks. Iam back i am back in half an hour. Hello, this is breakfast with Louise Minchin and dan walker. And we have the back specialist elaine paige thought had magic in his hands, here to save our spines from the bad habits we had slipped into well working from home. Intimate right now, e mailaddress is onscreen. And something that should warm the cockles, we will be live at animal park, look at that see you at 9 15am. But no questions for kym . No thank you both and sorry about that as the undisputed king of the talk shows his interviews have given us an insight into the lives of some of the biggest stars. But now, sir Michael Parkinson is reflecting on his own life and times. He may have interviewed everyone from jane fonda to noel gallagher, but his latest book explores the relationship with his father and his son. I went to meet him. When i was talking to people, i used to always end up, almost without knowing it, asking them about their relationship with their father. But that was just a simple idea, a simple thing that really greatly pleased me to say, ladies and gentlemen, my next guest is ingrid bergman. To meet somebody who is not only serenely beautiful, but also intelligent and had a hell of a story to tell. And i heard myself saying, a voice from nowhere, do you mind if i turn that down, because im a bit knackered . Thank you. He still tells a good story. Lovely to see them both together. Sir michaels book is called like father like son. I love the fact that his wife has only just forgiven i love the fact that his wife has onlyjust forgiven him for turning down a meal with Clint Eastwood sally has had a very busy morning, looking up the confusion with what happens with sports over the four weeks, there has been some clarity this morning . It has changed while bieber on air, michael gove heard last night said last night he helped golf and tennis could continue but he got that wrong, it is not allowed. We spoke about grassroots sport for kids while ago was Robbie Savage, the government is resisting calls for that to continue. Childrens sport, away from school, will have to stop, outdoor Tennis Courts and golf courses will be closed, along with Leisure Facilities, including swimming pools. Two hundred pools closed for good during the first lockdown. We can now speak to olympic medallist steve parry who joins us from manchester. Whatever you make of this latest decision to close leisure centres and swimming pools in particular what do you make . Grassroots spout, it is quite stark and depressing, just to close down all activity at Grassroots Level again will have some impact. But for me, swimming in particular, we are going to lose so Many Community facilities. We have already lost 200 pools that will never reopen, they are not easy things to close down and start back up, we have already had a number of pools that chose to stay closed over the first four months and i fear every time we go into lockdown, these facilities will end up disappearing forever. What practical people are turning up beach ready, having limited interaction in a covid secure environment. Chlorine reduces the chances of infection being transmitted. People want to be safe swimming or being in a chlorinated pool, it is one of the safest environments you can be in. I am not understanding. I do understand the arguments, of course ido, understand the arguments, of course i do, that we have to hit coronavirus head on, but we also need to not throw everything out when it comes to doing activities that are safe. I get frustrated when i see that are safe. I get frustrated when isee swimming that are safe. I get frustrated when i see swimming and other sports at the back of the queue when the evidence suggests they are actually safe. Sally, the government talks a lot about us being healthy and that is absolutely the right message. But we also are going to struggle with coronavirus and other Health Conditions if we dont prioritise being active and being healthy. The Prime Minister Boris Johnson being active and being healthy. The Prime Minister borisjohnson said yesterday that the priority now, one priority which is getting this r number down. You must be able to admit that the country has got to do anything to get that under control and this is just one of those things thatis and this is just one of those things that is going to have to happen for the next month . Of course i understand that argument and that is absolutely vital. But the strides that have been taken over the last month to make environments like Manchester Aquatics Centre behind me safe and secure, i think are really positive. I am safe and secure, i think are really positive. Iam not safe and secure, i think are really positive. I am not sure it is right to close all swimming facilities around the country. We have a lot of drownings every year, swimming is on the National Curriculum and we have thousands of kids every year that leave Primary School unable to swim. We have also got to think what happened six months and a year from now. Although the next month is really important, we have to get the r rate down. I am asking questions about the activity level and the health of the nation looks like six months from now. The government says they recognise the importance of sport for physical or Mental Health and they will try and resume things as quickly as they can, so what is your best hope right now at this point . I do hope we can open up in a month and i know that is everyones hope. The challenge for gyms and leisure and in particularfor swimming, it takes time to get these facilities ready and back up and running. You have got to make sure the pool is working and up to temperature and there is a lag. What i hope there is forward planning and the date we perceive we can open up on, the whole industry can be galvanised and be open so people can get active. Swimming is very popular, 2 Million People swim every week and we know not only the physical benefits, but the mental benefits. 1. 4 million adults who swim say it has positive impact on their Mental Health. We are going into winter, this is about the most popular sport in the country being able to operate and fight coronavirus. Steve, it is great to talk to you. Steve parry talking to us talk to you. Steve parry talking to us obviously about the difficulties facing the leisure industry and grassroots sport at the moment. We had confirmation didnt read this morning, the Leisure Facilities, swimming pools are all going to close, no tennis or golf, appeals yesterday. Sally, thank you very much. The weather continues to be on the programme today. Heres matt with a look at this mornings weather. It has been a wet morning for some of you today. There has been a covering of snow in the Lake District but we will replace the weather with something more sunny and dry. This area of High Pressure we re and dry. This area of High Pressure were building off the atlantic. When you see a high, think of dry because it stops the rain clouds and almost put a cap on the atmosphere. There will be some chilly nights on the way ansah mist and fog, but drier thanit way ansah mist and fog, but drier than it is at the moment, some of eastern scotland and counties of eastern scotland and counties of eastern england, a rumble of thunder. Is clearing off into the north sea, a few showers scattered around towards the west, maybe the odd rumble of thunder but more of you will be drier for longer this afternoon. Whilst it is blustery out there at the moment, the winds will ease down as well. The temperatures will still be chilly, the vast majority staying in single figures, maybe ten or 11 in some southern parts. Because we have a cold day and the nights are getting longer, sky is clear tonight and temperatures will quickly dip away. A few showers in northern scotland, one or two to the west of the country as well. With clear skies elsewhere, a cold night with a widespread frost particularly across england and wales. Tomorrow. Lovely, crisp and sunny. One or two isolated showers in the west, more cloud to the west of scotland which will thicken up later for the highlands and islands. Most of you will stay dry tomorrow, england and wales will be sunny. Big change on what we have had, temperatures ten to 13 degrees. After a cold night to take us into thursday, dense fog arriving in the night into the southern half of england and wales. It could linger all the way through into the afternoon for one or two spots. It more cloud in western scotland and Northern Ireland. If you are in the south where you see the mist and fog, it could last, as i said, keep temperatures down at around six or seven celsius. Lingering fog will be an issue for most of you but into the weekend it looks like most places will be dry to begin with before some rain arise from the south. That is how your weather is looking. That is a nice tie you are wearing this morning. Inspired by thejungle challenge. I wasnt. Idid it, i wasnt. I did it, iwas i wasnt. I did it, i was late to the party. I think we will put those pictures on social media. We have been set a challenge of turning our living rooms into a jungle within ten minutes. The bushfires that raged across australia this time last year caused devastation. The wildlife was badly hit. The koala population was badly hit. The koala population was badly hit. The koala population was badly hit and authorities on Kangaroo Island have been doing their best to help them recover. They survived australias fires. Now these koala bears are ready to go back where they belong. It is a very different scene from nearly a year ago. Pictures of the badly burned animals shocked the world. Hundreds we re animals shocked the world. Hundreds were brought to this wildlife park when the flames tore through the island. As well as being faced with the burns and the starvation and dehydration, they were also very mentally affected as well and many of them were feeling so terrible they were cuddled in a bowl and they didnt have fight response which animal should. Of the 50,000 koala bears living on Kangaroo Island before the fires, its feared most of them were killed. Images of destruction and the loss of wildlife we re destruction and the loss of wildlife were seen across the destruction and the loss of wildlife were seen across the globe, prompting millions of dollars in donations. It was incredible to see how many people from pretty much every country in the world jumped on board to donate to looking after and saving as much wildlife on Kangaroo Island as we could. Helping koalas survive is vital for australias ecology. It is the one place where the animals are disease free. For months, hundreds of koalas have been looked after in the wildlife park and it has been a long and tough journey for many of them. The aim is to get them Strong Enough so they can survive on their own in the wild. Today, one of them is being released. After ten months of care, it is time for the big move. Here comes the koala bear. Here he goes. For dayna, it is a bittersweet separation. There is no better feeling watching something you have raised as a jelly and then watching them climb back up the tree where they are meant to be. It will take yea rs they are meant to be. It will take years for the island to recover but it is hoped koalas like this can still thrive in a much changed habitat. Goodbye. Goodbye, kabbalah. It is lovely to see good news and optimism. It is a crazy 24 hours ahead in america. The polls will open in the us later this morning as voters choose between President Donald Trump and his democratic challengerjoe biden. Businesses in the nations capital, washington dc, and in new york city have been seen boarding up their premises due to concerns about unrest after the vote. Our washington correspondent, ben wright has more. Across the united states, in person and by mail, americans are voted in vast numbers already. Nearly 100 Million People have cast their ballots early and more will have their say at polling stations today. For both candidates, monday saw a final sprint for votes around key swing states and both made Campaign Stops in pennsylvania. Lagging in the polls, donald trump has been rallying his supporters at a punishing pace. The president surprised the world by winning four years ago and believes he can do so again. So get your friends, get your family, get your neighbours, get your co workers, grab your boss by the tie and say, come on, boss. Weve got to get out and vote, get out and vote. And you are going to have a day tomorrow, the likes of which i think people havent seen in a long time. His democratic rivaljoe biden has also been campaigning intensely in pennsylvania, arguing america must come together and get a grip on the pandemic. The first step to beating the virus is defeating donald trump. Car horns blaring. It always matters who sits in the white house, but the choice facing americans today is stark. This feels like the most pivotal president ial election in decades and the huge early voting turnout reflects that. It is also a big test for americas democracy and whether it can peacefully steer this nation through a deeply polarised moment. Singing. Tonight, lady gaga joined joe biden at a driving Campaign Event in pittsburgh. After decades in public life, mr biden could be on the cusp of the presidency. Donald trump is in the fight of his life, still thrilling his crowds, still predicting possible bedlam after the election. This evening he stopped in wisconsin before wrapping up his travels in michigan. A Campaign Going to the wire. Ben wright, bbc news, washington. Lets speak to Jamira Burley who is a democratic strategist and worked on Hilary Clintons 2016 campaign. Jamira is in new york. We can also talk to randi reed, who ran as a republican congressional candidate for nevada this year. Shes in sparks this morning. Thank you very much forjoining us. We have been talking to our correspondent in washington about this huge 24 hours ahead for americans, where do you think things stand . I sit between being anxious and excited, as mentioned by the previous reporter, over 100 Million People have already cast their ballot and that is already past the expectation the 2016 early voting. Many people in america are fighting foran many people in america are fighting for an ideology that is the candidate and whether we want to move this country in a progressive direction that makes this country more inclusive for all of the people, not just the more inclusive for all of the people, notjust the chosen more inclusive for all of the people, not just the chosen few. More inclusive for all of the people, notjust the chosen few. I am excited, but anxious. The anxiety is because . I think have am excited, but anxious. The anxiety is because . I think i have anxiety because being a black woman in america, i am faced with the co nsta nt america, i am faced with the constant reality of my safety not being considered. What we are now faced with and what many Trump Supporters have already threatened violence if they dont get the result they want on election night. At the same time, i am reckoned with the fact we have organisers and individuals and activists over the last year in years, trying to educate people about the political process to encourage them to participate. There is a lot to be hopefulfor, participate. There is a lot to be hopeful for, but the participate. There is a lot to be hopefulfor, but the reality participate. There is a lot to be hopeful for, but the reality is folks in this country want to continue to hold us back and continue to hold us back and continue to hold us back and continue to suppress the most vulnerable. But we are going to push back and we are going to show up and show ad. We havent got much time left, but are you worried about potential unrest, whatever happens . Donald trump has been fanning the fla mes donald trump has been fanning the flames with his supporters for months now, telling them not to believe the legitimacy of the election. Also the media, need to tell the truth and print facts to make sure there is no muddying of the water and dont allow donald trump to steal an election again, for many people. Good to talk to you, sorry we couldnt get out of the gas to talk to. She was a former republican candidate but we just couldnt get hold of her this morning. This is bbc news with the latest headlines. The gunman killed by police during a deadly shooting in vienna was an islamist terrorist according to the authorities.
