Will face charges over claims theyd breached the rules on Campaign Spending during the last General Election. Fifa investigates paul pogbas £89 million transfer from juventus to Manchester United last summer. And pigs do fly. 50 years after pink floyds Debut Album A Celebration and exhibition to mark the anniversary. Its 5 oclock, good afternoon. President trump has defended his decision to sack the head of the fbi without warning saying hed lost the confidence of almost everyone in washington. But critics from both sides say the dismissal of james comey smacks of a cover up, to do with the agencys investigation into possible collusion between the trump president ial campaign and russia. From washington, heres rajini vaidyanathan. Absolutely explosive news from washington. This is a fox news alert. James comey has been fired. Politics in the time of trump is often unpredictable but this was a political bombshell that few saw coming. Back in washington today james comey was in los angeles, he did not know he had been sacked. Why did not know he had been sacked. Why did you fired James Comey Chris rock he was not doing a good job. Did it affect you meeting with the russians today . Not at all. He was sent a letter by the president. You hereby terminated and removed from office immediately. I greatly appreciate you inform me on three separate occasions that im not under investigation but i concur with the judgment of the justice investigation but i concur with the judgment of Thejustice Department that you are not able to effectively lead the bureau. Except that the Trump Campaign is being investigated the fbi for possible links to russia. James comey was leading that enquiry. The white house that he is gone because of the way he handled another investigation, last year, the one into Hillary Clinton and her e mails but democrats do not buy that. Mr president , theres little reason think that mr rosensteins letter is the true reason that President Trump fired Director Comey. Because if the administration truly had objections to the way Director Comey handled the Clinton Investigation, they would have had them the minute the president got into office. But he did not fired Director Comey then. The question is why did it happen last night. Those backing the president s actions say it has nothing to do with russia. The leadership of the fbi is kind of hard, that were wondering about firing a guide when there are bigger drops. Let me ask if russia had a pa rt drops. Let me ask if russia had a part to play in the decision of President Trump, in your opinion . Not according to the latter. Let me tell you about russia, they interfere in our election and i want to punish russia. Democrats on capitol hill are calling for an independent Special Prosecutor to Ta Ke Independent Special Prosecutor to take over the Russian Investigation. They fear that anyone that President Trump picks to become the new fbi director would not be impartial. The white house might say that none of this has anything to do with russia, but russia is once again the focus of conversation here in washington. Lets cross to washington and speak to our correspondent rajini vaidyanathan. Weve also heard from Vice President mike pence saying that the sacking showed strong leadership. That is right, those comments from the Vice President reiterating what the president reiterating what the president said just now but the white house as well that this has nothing to do with russia. He said the president made the right decision, that it was a strong decision, that it was a strong decision at the right time. He said it was nothing to do with the russian probe and no evidence of collusion between the Trump Campaign and russian officials. He went on to say that American People need to have confidence in the fbi. One of the comments mike pence made, the Vice President , saying he made a strong decision of the right time, well people here in capitol hill where i am now, Many Democrats, are asking why now. Why did President Trump decide to do this now. There are some reports coming out now in some american newspapers Thatjames Comey had actually asked for more money for the Russian Investigation and some speculating about whether that might be the reason. Of course the line from the administration is this is about the Hillary Clinton e mail. But many here just to not buy that explanation. And just put it in context, it is incredibly unusualfor a president it in context, it is incredibly unusual for a president to sack the director of the fbi . Incredibly unusual. It has only happened once before under bill clinton. That was over and ethics scandal involving that fbi director at the time. It is usual that they serve a ten year term, there are appointed by the president , confirmed by the senate and then effectively left to do theirjob. Many and then effectively left to do their job. Many people and then effectively left to do theirjob. Many people have raised concerns about where this leaves the legitimacy of the Justice System under President Trump. His critics point out that this is not the first judicial sacking he has conducted since office. He fired sally yates who was acting Attorney General over his travel ban. So his critics say his travel ban. So his critics say his trying to interfere in the process. Of course as we heard from people like mike pence and the president himself, they simply think james comey was not doing a good job and even point to the fact that democrats have criticised the way that james comey handled the Hillary Clinton E Mail Investigation. But there arent Many Democrats i have spoken to here in the senate who say that they were angry because of the E Mail Investigation but russia is front and centre of everything and there are now calling for a Special Prosecutor to take over the investigation into the Trump Campaign and its possible links with russia. Republicans are saying it is not necessary, there are already a number of congressional committees looking into the possible ties with russia as well as an fbi investigation. Some are concerned about who becomes the next fbi director because of course it will be up to President Trump to appoint them. Thank you very much. Stay with us here on the news at five because shortly after half past well speak to evan mcmullin, a former cia officer who ran against both mr trump and mrs clinton for the presidency hes been deeply critical of the president s decision to fire james comey. The Crown Prosecution Service has said no conservative politicians or officials will be charged with breaking rules on election Campaign Spending in 2015. They said it did not meet the test for further action. They said it did not meet the test forfurther action. One they said it did not meet the test for further action. One case they said it did not meet the test forfurther action. One case is still under consideration, the south thanet constituency in kent. With me is our Home Affairs Correspondent danny shaw. What are they saying tonight . This was about how the conservatives spent their money on battle buses which were touring marginal constituencies in the campaign for the 2015 General Election. There we re the 2015 General Election. There were concerns that the spending on those battle buses was not recorded locally as it shouldve been but was pa rt locally as it shouldve been but was part of the National Spending return. There are strict rules about how much parties spend locally on their candidates and campaigns. The Electoral Commission had already find the Conservative Party £7,000 for electoral expenses irregularities and the matter came to the police and files were passed to the police and files were passed to the police and files were passed to the Crown Prosecution Service in respect to all 30 candidates and party agents at the last election. The cbs has decided that in all but one case there will be no charges, no one will be prosecuted because although it said the returns from the party may have been inaccurate, there was insufficient evidence to prove that anyone had acted dishonestly. They had been told, the agents have been told by central office, Conservative Party headquarters, that this is spending was part of a national campaign. Thank you very much. An eleven Year Old Girl who died after falling from a water ride at a theme park in Staffordshire Yesterday has been named as evha jannath from leicester. In a statement her family said that words cannot describe the pain and loss they feel. Evha was on a school trip to Drayton Manor park when she fell from a boat on one of the rides. Her school has also been closed today. Our correspondent phil mackie reports. Evha jannath had come to the park on a school trip. The Emergency Services arrived quickly. Staff and paramedics tried to save her, but she was pronounced dead after being airlifted to hospital. Today, investigators are examining the Splash Canyon Ride and are trying to work out how she fell into the water. There is a height restriction that means that Young Children between three and three and a half feet tall have to be accompanied by an adult. Although people arent strapped in, they are told to remain seated. Four years ago, another young boy, patrick tracey, fell into the water on the same ride. One hand was Still Holding onto the bar, and he was half stood, to wave, and at that point the boat sort of bumped against the edges of the rapids, and hejust was tossed headfirst into the water. I panicked and i didnt know what to do, but luckily there was a member of the public, a lovely lady next to me, thatjust said, hold on, ive got him, and jumped over this fence we were leaning on. She jumped over a second fence and dragged patrick out of the water. Drayton manor says its checking through its record and liaising with the health and safety executive. Evhas school is shut today. Staff and pupils have been offered counselling. She was a lovely, sweet natured girl. She was loved by everyone at the school. As a school and as a community, we are trying to make sense of this terrible tragedy. Our thoughts and our prayers are with evhas family at this most difficult time. Everybodys in shock, everybodys in utter shock, theres no words. I mean myself, i couldnt sleep last night thinking of this, you know, ive got kids that probably will be in the future going to a trip like this, i probably wont send my children. The park is shut today as a mark of respect. No decision has been made on when it will reopen. This is Bbc News At Five the headlines. President trump has defended his decision to sack the head of the fbi without warning. He says james comey was not doing a good job. The family of evha jannath the 11 Year Old Girl who died yesterday of a theme park say their world has been torn apart. And it would england coach eddie jones General Election. And it would england coach eddiejones is expecting a highly competitive Rugby World Cup group after being drawn alongside france and argentina for the tournament. He says it is not a group of death. Ireland and scotland have been drawn together as well, they will also face the hosts japan with wales in the same group as australia. And as paul pogba returns to training and fifa announced they intend to investigate his transfer to Manchester United, some of the figures associated with the deal have been called outrageous. More on that just after half have been called outrageous. More on thatjust after half past. Billions of pounds invested in schools thats what both labour and the Liberal Democrats are promising if they win the General Election. Labour says it would plough five billion pounds more into schools in england annually by 2022. The lib dems say they would invest an extra Seven Billion across the uk over a period of four years. Our political correspondent, leila nathoo, has been looking at their plans. Its an issue thats galvanised parents and teachers across england. Now School Funding is firmly on the election agenda. Labour is pledging to transform an Education System it says has been starved of money. Every child, whatever their background, will be given the opportunity to unlock their full potential. We will give further and Technical Education the parity of esteem it deserves, notjust with warm words, but with bold action. Labour are promising to create a National Education service. The party says by 2022 schools in england will get a £4. 8 billion annual boost. With £335 million extra to cushion losses from changes to the way government money is allocated. Under the plans, Education Maintenance Allowance for College Students and University Grants would both be reintroduced. And adults would be able to retrain for free. Pouring more money into the mix is also the Liberal Democrats plan. £6 billion for schools in england over four years and extra for the devolved administrations. Two thirds of schools, it now turns out today, are planning to lay off at least one teacher, lose at least one teaching post, in the next two months. Under that kind of pressure, there needs to be a response, a fully costed response, to build a future for all of our children, so we can have decent education and be confident in that. Big plans, though, come with big bills. Both parties say they would reverse cuts to Corporation Tax to fund schools. Labour says the rate would rise from 19 to 26 by 2020. The labour party proposals would certainly raise more than enough from Corporation Tax to pay for these increases in School Funding. But of course an increase in Corporation Tax has significant economic effects. It will reduce investment by companies in the uk and in the long run it wont raise as much as it might in the short run. As companies change their behaviour. Headteachers have protested that they are facing the biggest squeeze on School Budgets for decades. And say itll mean cuts to subjects and bigger class sizes. The conservatives say schools have received Record Levels of funding, and warned the Opposition Parties cant deliver on their promises. Over the last seven years we have protected Core Schools Budgets in real terms. Were spending record amounts in our schools. £41 billion this year. And there are 1. 8 million more pupils in good and outstanding schools today than in 2010. The governments plans to open new grammar and free schools and change the formula used to calculate School Funding have both proved controversial. Its given the Opposition Parties ammunition to take the electoral battle to the classroom. Lets get the latest from our correspondents on the campaign trail. Alex forysth has been following the conservative campaign in nottinghamshire. Danny savage is with labour in south yorkshire. First to alex. Theresa may in nottingham shire, to labour held seats, which gives your idea of the vote shes going after. Herfirst visit, she met conservative candidates and activists, then came to this Marketing Firm and here she took questions from staff. They were unscripted, and this is a fairly new development for theresa may because there are a range of topics she was asked about homelessness, food banks, the nhs, education, amongst other things she said that tuition fees for University Students are here to stay and she defended her plan to introduce more Grammar Schools then people would not be selected on the basis of their economic background. She was even asked about paganism to which she replied it is a matter of personal choice but she made clear she does eat meat. There was no huge policy announcement today, this was about theresa may trying to define herself as the stable reader of the country needs and drawing parallels with labour and Jeremy Corbyn. The labour leader has been out today as well and danny savage has been following him in yorkshire. We are in saint helen s square in the heart of the city of york. If you have been year an hour ago it was quite a scene, about 2000 Labour Supporters had packed into the square to seeJeremy Corbyn and listen to him making a stump speech in this city. There is things mentioned throughout, to ecstatic cheering from the Labour Supporters who were chanting his name at times. It was a feeling of an american style election rally. He said our events are outdoors, anyone can come, a clear dig at theresa may not doing enough public stump speeches in his opinion. So that true a big cheer as well. Fox hunting was also mentioned, we were the party that bandit, that has come back on the agenda in the last couple of days. People talking about what would happen with fox hunting. Again big cheers in support of keeping the ban from the crowd here. Lots of local comments, of course it was here that he had come to support his local mp rachel maskell. And he spoke about the chocolate legacy because this city is facing some job cuts at nestle. At other speeches todayJeremy Corbyn was a further Education College speaking about the Education College speaking about the education policy. He mentioned the advantage of assured parliament, just two years since the last election, the advantage of that is that it gets us round the Cabinet Table a lot quicker. Fighting talk from Jeremy Corbyn in yorkshire today. And judging by the 2000 people are so in the square earlier, a lot of support for him locally. They cheered him in and cheered him out again. Sima kotecha is following the Lib Dems In Cardiff and Catriona Renton has the latest from the snp campaign in glasgow. First to sima. It isa it is a glorious day here in cardiff. The Liberal Democrats and tim farron will be campaigning here tomorrow but they started this morning in the north of cornwall, a town with a primary school, the leader went in and spoke to some children and teachers about the policy he has been talking about. If elected as Prime Minister he says he would be investing £7 billion into schools and colleges and that money would come from a 20 rise in Corporation Tax. But he was greeted by some constituents who were rather annoyed with his presence in the north of cornwall, this constituency voted overwhelmingly to leave the eu and as he was getting back on as battle bus to leave the constituency, a man said to him hang ona minute, constituency, a man said to him hang on a minute, why are you here. Banging on about staying in the Single Market when we voted to leave the eu. Tim farron said to him hang ona minute, the eu. Tim farron said to him hang on a minute, im trying to get the best deal and he also made a point that he feels very strongly about and we have heard over the past couple of days, talking to other constituents, he said im mingling with the public, getting in there and speaking to people and you would not be having this conversation up close with any of the other leaders. The children we spoke to said they we re the children we spoke to said they were taken with him, some said he was very kind. He spoke to them about human rights and policing and he will be speaking a bit more about some of those issues that matter most to him here in cardiff tomorrow. Now the latest on the snp from glasgow. The first minister Nicola Sturgeon hit the Campaign Trailjust North of glasgow in the constituency of East Dunbartonshire. It was one of the Massive Gains for the snp last time around. The Liberal Democrats want it back so it is a key battle ground. Nicola sturgeon was here today trying to shore up her party support. And she chose a pie shop for herfirst support. And she chose a pie shop for her first photo opportunity of the day, giving her supporters plenty of chance to comment that the snp had the right recipe for success in these elections. No surprise that she chose East Dunbartonshire to talk about pensions and her support for pensioners income, she reaffirmed the Smb Commitment to the triple lock, but it would rise by other inflation, average earnings or 2. 596, other inflation, average earnings or 2. 5 , whichever is higher. She chose this area for that because it has a higher than average number of people at reaching pensionable age. She also took the opportunity to address the fact that no conservatives face any charges for breach of Election Expenses in 2015. She said the conservatives still had significant questions to answer and this could be the right time to give the Electoral Commission some more clout. He was the worlds most expensive player when he moved from juventus last summer. Fifa want to know who was involved in the £89. 3 million deal and how much money they earned out of it. United say fifa have all the necessary documents from last august. Well lets talk to our Sports Correspondent Katie Gornall who is at old trafford for us. The allegation is that paul pogba, his agent made a fortune from this deal. That is right. This stems from a book due to be published in germany making claims that have been widely reported in the media, the central claim is a breakdown of this £89 million world record transfer of paul pogba from juventus to Manchester United in the summer, claiming that his agent received £41 million as part of this transfer. A further allegation in the book also saying that may in some weighbridge ownership rules. But at the moment no suggestion that anyone has done Anything Wrong, fifa said it is not Anything Wrong, fifa said it is not a formal investigation but they are wanting a bit more detail on it. Theyve written to Manchester United to seek clarification, they want to know exactly who was involved in this deal to bring paul pogba to old trafford and they need to know how much money was paid to him. No suggestion that anyone has done Anything Wrong but clearly many questions swirling around about this particular transfer. I suppose it reflects wider concerns in the world of football that agents are just too powerful, too rich and they agitate to move their players just to make more money. Yes and that is one of theissues more money. Yes and that is one of the issues i think that people will be looking at when this further information about this comes out. But the agent for paul pogba, it is nothing against regulations for him to be paid money as part of the deal, but it was the allegation that this was a sizeable fee that has caused further scrutiny in the case. But paul pogba is not the only one of his clients to be here at old trafford, he also represents less ibrahimovic. The bbc contacted the agent for his comments, he declined to comment but said the matter was in the hands of a glorious. As for Manchester United they seem relatively unconcerned about all this, they released a statement that you mentioned saying they do not comment on specific transfers but they did say all the relevant documents had been with fifa since august when the transfer was completed. There is a press Conference Due to take place very soon with jose Conference Due to take place very soon withjose mourinho comic he may be asked about this particular tra nsfer be asked about this particular transfer but i think he is unlikely to be drawn into it. With Manchester United having such a Big Game On The Horizon are playing some of the bigger tomorrow night. President trump has defended his decision to sack the head of the fbi without warning saying james comey had lost the confidence of almost everyone in washington. Why did you fire Director Comey . The Crown Prosecution Service says no conservatives will face charges over claims theyd breached the rules on Campaign Spending during the last General Election. Weve got your sports news now with hugh ferris. Two years ago it was the group of death that put pay to englands chances at the Rugby World Cup. In two years time, it wont be any easier. Eddiejones hasjoked hell have to visit a japanese temple to pray before taking on both france and argentina in their pool. Well hear from our reporter chrisjones on todays draw for the 2019 tournament injapan in a moment. But first, his namesake, eddie. Well, we want to win the world cup. Its quite clear that we want to come here and win the world cup. What a great experience it would be winning the world cup injapan. Its the first time the Rugby World Cup is played outside the traditional countries, so well prepare well for that and every day until the world cup, we will prepare to get better. Eddiejones says its not a tough group, its a good group. He is embracing the challenge. He feels these games against france and argentina in the pool stages will be the Ideal Preparation for the greater challenges come the quarterfinals, potentially beyond. You could forgive some england fans having a little bit of intrepididation because of the fate englands in the cup in 2015. Right across the pool stages, there are some mouth watering clashes. In pool a, Scotland Versus Ireland drawn together. They will fancy their chances of getting out of the group, but the big motive is to finish top of that and avoid the all blacks in the quarterfinal. They have the South African team and you would back the all blacks to top that pool. Waless manager says hes relieved theyve avoided the pool of death like they had back in 2015, but still, they have that arch nemesis, australia. A team they not able to beat at the moment, as well as the up and coming georgia. If wales and england are to get out of their groups, there could be a Quarterfinal Meeting between the two sides. Wouldnt that be something . Arsenal can move to within three points of the top four tonight with a win at southampton. Still with four matches to play. Arsene wengers hoping to keep up his record of qualifying for the Champions League in every season hes been in charge. I believe most of all that in the recent five games, we won four and i believe that we had a bad spell. The england batsman is playing for his County Essex Against sussex at chelmsford. Where he was watching at the other end as a dramatic opening to the match unfolded. A hat trick no less. First to fall victim to sussexsjerome taylor was varun chopra who went for 2. Next ball it was tom westley who went. Also caught behind. Taylor wasnt done though. James comeys impact on the american presidency has been profound. Democrats say he swung the election against Hillary Clinton. Trump supporters say he is undermined the white house. But the question hanging over his sacking is why now . I made a mistake using a private e mail. Thats for sure. Then days before the election, when an investigation into whether mrs clinton had compromised National Security by using a private E Mail Server was opened byjames comey, donald trump was thrilled. It took guts for Director Comey to make the move that he made in light of the kind of opposition he had. Then came this. Although there is evidence of potential violations of the statutes guarding the handling of classified information, ourjudgment is that no reasonable prosecutor would bring such a case. But seven months on, Thejustice Department has suddenly decided that james comey has no right to announce the Deputy Attorney general s said in a memo the fbi is unlikely to regain public and congressional trust until it has a director that understands the gravity of the mistakes and pledges never to repeat them. Democrats think its another announcement from james comey that got him sacked, that he was investigating possible Russian Support for donald trump. And that includes investigating the nature of any links between individuals and the Trump Campaign and the russian government, and whether there was any coordination between the campaign in russias efforts. Mr trumps first National Security adviser, michael flynn, was an early casualty, forced to resign after lying about his talks with russian officials, but one senior republican believes the Senate Enquiry into the allegations could be jeopardised by the removal of mr comey. Richard burr says his dismissal further confuses an already difficult investigation by the committee. If that ends up being nothing there, i will be the knowledge that. But, boy oh boy, the president s actions, not just today but his comments over the last few weeks, his whole approach towards our investigation really raises a huge level of concern with me. But donald trump said this morning that james comey lost the confidence of almost everyone in washington, republican and democrat alike. When things calmed down they will be thanking me, he said. But for many, this sacking will raise more questions than answers. Mr trumps has ensured the controversy about his relations with moscow will continue. To duscuss this we can speak now to the former cia officer evan mcmullin. He also ran as an independent in last years us president ial election. All kinds of allegations about why donald trump has fired his fbi director. Talk of a cover up. Donald trump has fired his fbi director. Talk of a coverup. How do you see it . I think the New York Times reported do is few hours ago that comey sought Additional Resources to expand the investigation from the department of justice. That was just a few days before he was sacked by President Trump. So that is an additional detail that seems to suggest quite clearly in fact that donald trump wa nted clearly in fact that donald trump wanted to remove comey because he was pursuing this investigation and in fact even trying to expand it. It is hard to imagine what other motive he might have had. Donald trump is trying to claim that he is doing this because comey mismanaged the fbi and the Clinton Investigation but actually donald trump has praised comey in the past but that investigation so it seems hard to believe now that he would fire him so long after it. Itjust does not make any sense. I think what is happening here is donald trump is trying to kill or impair the investigation into the russian influence on our election and his campaign and its ties to moscow. We heard from donald trump on this and heard from donald trump on this and he just heard from donald trump on this and hejust said heard from donald trump on this and he just said james comey was not doing a good job. That is a pretty thin explanation. He has a lot more explaining to do than that. That will not suffice. The simple fact is james comey was the only, was leading the only Serious Investigation into the russian influence operation in our elections, into donald trump and his links to moscow with the campaign. And donald trump has removed him from his position. It is hard to understand or explain in any other way that this is a president who understands that he was going to be held accountable by this investigation. He is someone who does not want to be held accountable, he tries to destroy other, anything that tries to do that, whether it is the press, another branch of government, anything else, whether it is the truth. And this is what authoritarians do, and these are the kind of Leadership Tactics that donald trump employs. He said it before many times that he himself is employing them now. Well mike pence the Vice President has said it is strong leadership and maybe that is what people who voted for donald trump like to see in washington. Donald trump also said Vladimir Putin offered strong leadership so we pray that before and we know what it means. We have a democracy here, we still have a democracy. We choose our own leaders. And our leaders are accountable to us. In this country, strong leadership is not authoritarianism, not dictatorship. The power of the government is on loa n the power of the government is on loan from the people and it is divided between branches of government and vertically between state and federal government. We do not have an emperor in this country and our system was set up to prevent that from happening. And so you see now the system fighting the authoritarian nature of donald trump and ultimately it will come down to the people. You made reference to donald trump and his supporters but ultimately it will come down to republicans, Republican Voters in the near term at least to hold republican members of congress who control Congress Accountable for Holding Donald trump accountable. Right there that is not happening. We are concerned by that. But i have confidence in the American People that hopefully sooner rather than later they will see the wisdom in holding this president accountable regardless of what their Party Affiliation is. Put into context how unusual it is president to fire the head of the fbi . Its entirely unusual. The director of the fbi holds a long term appointment, i believe ten yea rs, long term appointment, i believe ten years, the purpose being to make the person in that position independent so that they can carry out investigations at the administration if necessary. So they can execute and enforce the law without bias or relations to the administration that would compromise their independence. Now, the president has the authority to fire the director and the president has done that, but it certainly violates the spirit of the role of that director and it certainly violates the american publics interest in ensuring that we dont have a president and an administration that has somehow collaborated with a foreign power and has robbed american citizens to choose on their own their own leader. Thank you, evan. He ran as an independent last year in the president ial election. More now on the election, one of the most hotly contested battlefields during General Elections is the West Midlands, with its clusters of marginal seats which have a habit of swinging back and forth between labour and the conservatives. And this one is no exception. A succession of senior politicians have already beaten a path to the regions doorsteps as our West Midlands Political Editor Patrick Burns reports. Where once they built spitfire fighters in erdington, they now make jaguar cars. One reason why the midlands is the only uk region Running A Trade Surplus with china. But if having a Prize Business Asset like that on its doorstep really does much for erdington itself, well, there is precious little evidence of it here in and around the high street. It is one of the most deprived constituencies in britain, 63 of the electorate here have voted leave in the referendum. And for many voters here there is no doubt about the number one issue now. Brexit, it is what happens now. Now we know that it is actually going to go ahead and we have got a date. Well, i think we should have more say in our government. The eu didnt give us that, did they . The election last week of a Conservative Midlands Metro mayor sent out the clearest signal yet that some old political assumptions may need a rethink. Walsall has two marginal labour constituencies. It voted for a tory mayor. Those of us with long memories recall Margaret Thatcher telling her supporters exactly 30 years ago that they still had to win back the big cities. All but one of birminghams ten constituencies are currently held by labour. This time, though, erdington is one of at least four seats in the city where the conservatives reckon theyre in with a chance. It is also where theresa maysjoint Chief Of Staff nick timothy grew up. So erdington is also code for those ordinary working people who are just about managing. Morejobs, more living accommodation. And more Apprentice Jobs you know, for training young people. There are too many young people being wasted. To me it is health, education, and employment. The way the nhs is going, yes, that is another big problem. It is really strained. So it is not mainly about brexit as far as youre concerned . No, im not worried about brexit. You can see birminghams changing skyline from out here too. One of britains business hotspots. But which party has the best plan to drive all that Economic Energy towards the places barely three miles away that need it most . Forget middle england, it is in the city that you will find the front line now. Patrick burns, bbc news, birmingham. President trump has been defending his decision to sack the director of the fbi, saying thatjames his decision to sack the director of the fbi, saying that james comey was not doing a good job. The family of an 11 Year Old Girl who died at a theme park yesterday say they are torn apart. No conservatives will face charges about the Campaign Spending in last years General Election. We will also have the Business News for you. The dow and the nasdaq are. Fifa have opened an enquiry into the transfer of pol pot bar. Paul pogba. As weve been hearing fifa have opened an inquiry into the £89. 3 million transfer of paul pogba to Manchester United from juventus last year. It follows allegations that pogbas agent mino raiola earned £41m from the deal. Fifa now want to know who was involved in the deal and how much money they earned out of it. With me is formerfootball agent jon smith who has been described during his career as a super agent representing the likes of Diego Maradona and ruud gullit. Thank you for being with us, john. Football fa ns thank you for being with us, john. Football fans listening to this allegation that has been made that paul pogbas manager made a lot of money out of this deal, almost half . Inevitably, agents have notjust become the transfer resolve players, but the Football Club money as well, so very often, clubs offer bonuses to managers who can get them good players, which i think is pretty reasonable. However, very often some of that becomes a bit convoluted, and in the past, particularly in southern europe, its become a way of taking money out of the country beyond the tax regimes of that territory. Nothing to do with this situation at all. He has asked the half. He pocketed an extra 20 million, and i have to say, good luck to him on that occasion. So you think that is fine. I suppose though that the worry for fans is that if agents are going to earn staggering sums then they are going to agitate their players to me because they are going to make tens of millions of pounds . Nothing has changed. I started in the Premier League in 1992 with Rupert Murdoch and everybody else at the time. If you look at the rich list this last weekend and see some of the lawyers fees, we are in the billionaires world. We are the biggest export this country have since the beatles. The players and the agents should be paid and all we ask for is transparency. But is there transparency . A lot of these deals, not necessarily the paul pogba deal, but a lot of these are murky. Thats because the authorities. In fairness the Football Agents Association are now in dialogue with the football association, but they would say the income from this deal is regarded under the regulations as Third Party Ownership but it is absolutely not. Its part of the deal. When the Authority Speak to the senior agents in the game and understand whether dark corners are then thats when things will improve. We have players who are owned by their agents, effectively and not their clubs. Yet technically they are not allowed to be. There, i would say open it up. If an agent wa nts to would say open it up. If an agent wants to own a player then put it on the form, or let someone know that he is. We have to have dialogue. There is still no dialogue with the agents. Let the agents be able to a nswer agents. Let the agents be able to answer criticism, and have dialogue with the authorities. In the meantime may make more money i suppose. Theres nothing wrong with that as long as its transparent. Its 50 years since pink floyd released their debut album. And to mark the occasion a new exhibition is opening at londons victoria and Albert Museum this weekend to celebrate the rock band. Our arts correspondent, david sillito, has had a sneak preview. London, may 1967. The Queen Elizabeth hall, a Classical Music venue, hosted what was to become a landmark in rock history. The lights, the surround sound, the psychedelia. The Summer Of Love had arrived. And was being featured on the bbc. The pink floyd, they have an audience, and people who have an audience ought to be heard. Perhaps its my fault that i dont appreciate them. 50 years on, this exhibition tells the story of how pink floyd helped turn rock music into a visual spectacle by retreating we would have the maddest i fear that follow them through, obviously some worth too mad. There was no one to tell us that we could do it that way. We were young, arrogant, and we had some pretty good times. Was a whole generation of designers and architects creating things that they thought no one would ever built. And then along came pink floyd. The stage designs, the giant inflatable pig. The album covers. All vital visuals for a band that liked to say no. I do remember that when we went on the road there was a big resistance to publicity. I think we were a bit po faced and snotty. It is in many ways a record of an era which is now past. When albums ruled and no one was counting the cost of rock excess. David sillito, bbc news. I love pink floyd. Now you weather.
