The self isolation choir is now so big its not technically possible to stream the final performance live. Hallelujah. So on sunday night, theyll all sing along to this three hour backing track. Isolated no more. John kay, bbc news. Thank you, everybody. Time for a look at the weather with news that this spring smashed records for sunshine, louise lear is here. Hello. Hopefully the weather has given us something to sing about. The birds have certainly been enjoying it and we have had another day of blue sky and sunshine across the country. As we close out the month of may this weekend, it looks likely to be confirmed as the sunniest on record, despite the pretty wet start to the season. Do you remember way back in march . But it has to be said, in may, some parts of england havent seen any traceable rain at all, but it has been a different story further north and west. The main rainfall circles gcioss and west. The main rainfall circles across the island of scotland, 150 more rain here, and most of that actually fell over a 72 hour period last weekend, but take a look at highland scotland this afternoon. Absolutely glorious. And it was the warmest base in the uk, with 28. 2 degrees. It looks likely that the blue sky and sunshine is actually going to stay with us as we go into the weekend. Through this evening, we keep those clear skies. A little bit of high cloud across the north west, a little bit of coastal fog gcioss west, a little bit of coastal fog across the northern isles. Generally speaking, those clear skies will allow those temperatures to follow way to a comfortable level hopefully forgetting a nights sleep, 7 i2. Tomorrow morning, once again plenty of sunshine out there because High Pressure is still driving the weather story at the moment. It is going towards scandinavia, circulating around that high comedy winds coming from a clockwise direction, so still an easterly feed, which means it will always be that little bit cooler. Some of you may say that is much better across the east coast, but if you want the sunshine and warmth, that is likely to be the further west you are. You have to factor in that wind which will pick up into the afternoon, coming from the east are the south east, so temperatures likely along the east coast, peaking at 20 further west we are looking at 25. I wa nt to further west we are looking at 25. I want to point out what happens for the first week ofjune. Sunday, monday, tuesday, starts off promising, dry, settled and warm. It gets noticeably cooler into next week, particularly with a northerly wind. 0k, thank you. And thats it. Goodbye from me. Hello and welcome to sportsday. Why liverpool could seal the pl title at a neutral venue. Up for sale why the future of the williams fi team is in doubt. And jamie murray tells the bbc expect plenty of competition in a battle of the brits next month. Good evening. Liverpool could win the pl title at a neutral venue under recommendations made by the National Lead for policing. The game which could be their first if Manchester City lose their opening game when the premier League Resumes is one of six that could be moved under recommendations by deputy chief constable mark roberts. Austin halewood is with me this evening, austin well come to those matches in a moment and why its been suggested theyll be moved. The primary need is dominika conversations with its return but interestingly as well today, news on the fa cup and when that competition will be concluded as well . More and more to fall into place now the resumption of football here in the uk will return. So, we found out at just a couple of days ago yesterday in fact that the return of the premier league was on the 17th of june. We now know that the quarterfinals of the fa cup will ta ke quarterfinals of the fa cup will take place and a half after that. That returns on the 17th ofjune and we now know that the quarter finals of the fa cup will take place a week and a half after that on the weekend of the 27th and the 28th ofjune. So a reminder of the teams left, its been a while now after all. Leicester v chelsea newcastle v Manchester City Sheffield United v arsenal and norwich v Manchester United. Then the plan is to have the semi finals on the 18th and 19th ofjuly with the final rescheduled for saturday the ist of august. Now, of course, all of these fixtures are dependent on all of the relevant Safety Measures being met. But, we have a date now, john we could see the fa cup raised more than 2 months later than on in the year, than it ever has done before. We would not have thought we would be seeing any football retraining at all. A recommendation today that liverpool play their title winning game at a neutral venue . Why has this come about and why is it being such a step at a number of these matches should be paid at neutral venues wind the primary leak return . The primary leak return . Well nothing has been confirmed yet, john but if liverpool do go on to win the title, they could lift the trophy at a neutral venue. Its all because the National Lead for football policing, mark roberts, has highlighted these fixtures as potential risks to Public Health and safety. So the Merseyside Derby at everton and liverpools trips to Manchester City and newcastle could all be moved, as well as any game in which liverpool could win the title at anfield. Manchester city v newcastle and Manchester United v Sheffield United could also both be moved. Now roberts said the games could be moved at the request of local police forces. But in a statement, Merseyside Police dont appear to agree. They said they are ready to provide whatever policing is required in relation to games being played at our premier league stadia. In relation to crime and disorder we have no objections to any of the everton or liverpool home fixtures being played at their respective grounds. So clearly theres lots still to be decided. However, former aston villa striker, dion dublin, thinks home and away matches should be scrapped altogether this season. I believe that neutral grounds is the way to go. I think itjust eliminates any favouritism at all to any clubs. I think if they could do that it would work. It would be strange for both clubs not knowing where the toilets are in the dressing room and how long the tunnel is. Theres no advantage at all. Typing level things out, if i was taking charge thats what i would do. Well the premier league released a statement of their own this afternoon, saying that its ambition is to complete all of the remaining fixtures this season home and away, where possible. And bournemouth defender Simon Francis shares that view hes not keen on the idea of neutral venues. I think the boys will be comfortable in bellas home surroundings, being able to sleep in their own beds. I know that might sound silly to some people but that is a comfort that players meet at the time. Sometimes they can get unsettled and away games and it plays a part for the fa ns games and it plays a part for the fans as well so i think the home advantage will benefit us and benefit other teams but i dont think we will know until we go into those fixtures. Bournemouths Simon Francis there well, nothing set in stone yet clearly lots of differing opinions with more sorting out to do. But if liverpool do go on to win their First Premier League title, theres a strong possibility, john, that could be at a neutral venue. So liverpool affected more than most playing in four of the six games recommended to played at neutral grounds. Neil atkinson is from the anfield wrap. Could be strange neil. How has this gone down with the Liverpool Fans . Underneath is a suggestion perhaps that liverpool fa ns suggestion perhaps that Liverpool Fans cant be trusted to adhere to the rules and regulations in place with regards to Mass Gatherings and moving the game away to prevent that. It is something of an insult . I think it suggests that about foot ball i think it suggests that about football fans. Youve got Sheffield United which has very little expense in general, that has been a push around mutual venues from mark roberts because the only group of hobbyists in this country who get offered football supporters, we had seen thousands of people on south and beach, some who might have season tickets and some will be catholics and protestants and we will have all things going on in our lives but its football supporters who are marked out and this lockdown stuff is another example of eight and with football supporters being aware it happens to us all as a collective and in this instance its happened even more intensity to liverpool supporters. Is it a case that football fans cant be picky about this, as a Liverpool Fan you must be pleased there will be a presumption of the premier league and liverpool look at the window title under the circumstances in a footballing capacity that they would have one too . I have always thought it was sensible for the need to find a way because this could be our reality for six to 12 months so what will we do for next season . Mark roberts is going to suggest all the games that cant go ahead in the usual venues as we move forward, is that the plan from this sort of stage of precedents . There is a lot of transparency around the logic that led to this conversation to be honest and obviously i want this event to complete but i think ultimately the vast majority of people at they support liverpool, manchester, or anyone else they have to adhere to the guidelines and people so far, not everybody is dependent at thes process adviser. So we end up in that situation where that people become supporters and is an expectation of behaviour will be different. I found an expectation of behaviour will be different. Ifound in an expectation of behaviour will be different. I found in general foot ball different. I found in general football supporters will be held to a higher standard than the average person who is going about their day to day business and this is a circumstance entirely created by the premier league and by the police issuing the statements and leaking these stories. They have created distressed by football supporters in this country and they meet up front and centre. No one else, not foot ball and centre. No one else, not football supporters, nothing has even happened yet. Thank you for your thoughts. The leicester manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed he contracted the virus back in march the Second Premier League manager to confirm hes had it. Speaking to the bbc he said it left him with no strength and breathlessness after developing symptoms a week after the top flight was suspended. I had no strength and i struggle, and a week after that my wife was the same as well so we got tested and both of us were detected with the virus. So having experienced that a little bit and the breathlessness it reminded me of when i climbed kilimanjaro, the higher you go, you suffer with acclimatization and thats what it felt like. Ive walked in like ten yards walking next ten yards felt very different. The new spfl premiership season will start on the weekend of august the 1st if scotland is in phase two of the pandemic route map. It follows talks between the governing body and the sports ministerjoe fitzpatrick. The sfa will also lift the suspension of football for premiership clubs from june the 11th, to allow clubs to resume training. Talks will continue regarding the resumption of lower league football. Gareth taylor, the new manager of Manchester City women says he had no hesitation about taking on the role after being appointed to replace nick cushing who joined mls side new york city. A former Academy Manager at city he steps in with the womens superleague season ended early because of the pandemic but already has a clear target for the team going forward. Potentially a bit more consistency within the Domestic Campaign because obviously that guarantees being in europe the following season which is obviously really important to the clu b obviously really important to the club and important to us if we want to quell and be considered as a real top team in europe. The williams formula one team, who dominated the sport in the eighties and 90s, has been put up for a sale. Having posted a 13 Million Pound loss last year Deputy Team Principal Claire Williams wouldnt say if this could spell the end for the team but remained confident the right type of investment could be found. Jennie gow is the bbcs f1 reporter. I suppose it has just been writing on the wall for a long time that williams had now find finally had to pay heed to. After all the success they had dominating the sport into and 905 it would be tragic if a way to go out of business. I have spoken to so many people today who are desperate for williams to stay to stay alive, stay infun one. Williams to stay to stay alive, stay in fun one. You think back to that great champions, there was all of those who had been champions with williams racing and with williams formula 1 team and it would be a very strange date when you wake up and you dont check the results of a formula 1 race and cl williams car there. I think we are a long way from that. I think investment will come to the team but let it be enough, would it be altruistic enough, would it be altruistic enough to take that team to fight a success . Enough to take that team to fight a success . I think thats what eve ryo ne success . I think thats what everyone hopes. Lets quickly round up some of the days other sports stories and the british motogp has been cancelled due to the pandemic. It was due to take place from the 28th to the 30th of august at silverstone. Five races this season have now been cancelled while others have been postponed, with the season currently set to start in spain on the 19th ofjuly. England cricketer alex hales has been left out of a 55 man training squad. He hasnt played for england since being removed from the world cup squad last year for an off field incident. The squad includes 14 debutants plus reece topley with england expected to separate a test and limited overs squad. There will be grass court tennis this summer with berlin to stage an event featuring dominic thiem, nick kyrgios and Elina Svitolina injuly. There will be no spectators, and electronic line calling instead of linejudges. But before that we have our very own battle of the brits as the eight best players in the mens singles, compete at the ltas National Tennis centre in a tournament organised byjamie murray to raise money for charity. Itll be the first competitive domestic event to take place since the suspension of tennis and will feature his brother andy playing in the singles. He told the bbcs tennis correspondent Russell Fuller the players are taking it seriously. It will be, for sure, the guys have been trash talking on the group chat i set been trash talking on the group chat iset up been trash talking on the group chat i set up for the last five, six weeks so they are right up for it and it is a chance for each player to put one over on the other guys so it will be fun and they are fired up and it gives them something to focus on and towards and help them prepare for getting back on the tour whenever that resumes. And for a good cause as well. I know you said you would pledge a certain amount to the Nhs Charities together. Definitely. We are going to raise a lot of money for the Nhs Charities for key workers, front line workers, andi for key workers, front line workers, and i think its a good cause and obviously at a time when a lot of people put in a lot of hard yards for that nation i think its important that we appreciate that respect and great to be able to raise money for them. One of the great initiatives that has come to this point to help the nhs. Thats nearly it for sportsday butjust to let you know about a programme coming up tomorrow. Youll also be able to watch the programme on the iplayer. Thats all from sportsday. Hello, you are watching bbc news. The chancellor had set out details of how employers will have to contribute to the cost of furloughed workers. Richie steele announced that businesses will be asked to Fund National insurance and Employee Pension contributions from others. By pension contributions from others. By september employers will pay 10 of wages rising to 20 in october. He also said the self employed will be eligible for a final grant in august. Covering 70 of the applicants monthly trading profits. We will speak now that they equity speak now to the shadow secretary. What did you make up the chancellors announcement . For the peoples whose incomes are dependent on either of these schemes, the extension confirmation which we have been calling for will be welcome. But there are a couple of big problems coming down the track, the first is that the chancellor is applying a blanket requirement on businesses, albeit a phased requirement for businesses to contribute to the cost of the following scheme. Which is in danger of actually adding to numbers of unemployment which we have already seen unemployment which we have already seen increasing in recent weeks for fairly obvious reasons. And then beyond that he has announced a cliff edge at the end of the scheme where whether you are self employed or you have been furloughed, they scheme com pletely have been furloughed, they scheme completely comes to an end. And the problem with that is that it in terms of the impact of covid 19 whether or not we have still managed to get the virus under control or whether its some people fear the may be a second spike. Even if we are may be a second spike. Even if we a re fortu nate may be a second spike. Even if we are fortunate and we are seeing the back of covid 19 in terms of the levels we have seen previously. There is no doubt that the whole sectors of the economy, hospitality, retail, there is going to be a long term effect on long term impact on the stiffness is and i think that chancellor made a mistake in making an arbitrary commitment to and the schemes regardless of the circumstances of that time and i think he should beat himself more flexibility to make sure that we are phasing out support in a genuine way and a flexible furloughed scheme. Lets see flexibility, if there are businesses and sectors that continue to meet business the point i dont think that chancellor should have ruled it out. In a way i think i heard him do in todays press conference. You heard him do in todays press conference. You are as heard him do in todays press conference. You are as aware as everybody else that they scheme is costing that Treasury Bill rate billions and billions of pounds and perhaps to single out certain sectors might mean that other sectors might mean that other sectors that hang on a second why are they getting favourable treatment . What would you do if you we re treatment . What would you do if you were in the treasury . treatment . What would you do if you were in the treasury . I think you have got to look more carefully and ta ke have got to look more carefully and take an evidence based approach to look at which particularly sectors are marked likely to be impacted for the longest period of time. I make sure there are measures in place to support those sectors. I mention some of them earlier. Pubs, bars, restau ra nts, some of them earlier. Pubs, bars, restaurants, even if they are able to reopen are unlikely to be able to open with the level of trade and capacity that they have done in normal circumstances but also we have seen it with the outcry of self employment scheme. The finances of the country, the self employed, people working in the Creative Industries thinking about our theatres, entertainment venues, there is going to be an impact for quite some time. I absolutely had to point you make about costs and that chancellor is right to think carefully before connecting significant sums of public money. We have also got to bear in mind the longer term cost of what will happen if we allow structural unemployment ofa if we allow structural unemployment of a kind we have not seen since the 19805 become a feature of the night our country. The scarring impact it has not just on our country. The scarring impact it has notjust on the families experiencing unemployment but the communities in which they live and when they wont be spending so much money, the wider economic impact. We have got to make sure this recession isa have got to make sure this recession is a short and shallow as possible andi is a short and shallow as possible and i think the sums of money that chancellor contributed up to now are significant but it is money that is being well spent to stop this recession sliding into a depression. He hasjust got recession sliding into a depression. He has just got to be a bit more evidence based in terms of the timing and the nature of withdrawing support from key sectors of the economy and i think he has announced it. I think he must also be giving businesses time to prepare my cindy . That is partly why he and basch announced this sort of phased approach i suppose. He did acknowledge that there was potentially going to be a real problem with unemployment. He must, at some level, be hoping that the economy bounces back enough so that for those areas of the economy and in those sectors where jobs are lost, jobs can be found elsewhere for people who have lost theirjobs. And thats why its really important not to supplement out of the economy at this critical moment. The key focus of the treasury has got to be on keeping the economy going, to keep as many people in work as possible and clearly across Government Debt is going to have to be some serious refocusing whether the department for work and pensions but also local authorities up and down the country who are going to have to deal with levels of unemployment in their communities that they have not seen for decades and so that means refocusing job centres for example, not just from helping people process benefit claims but actively find work and to resca n claims but actively find work and to rescan and we in la we have not previously and thats going to take serious resource and effort and the governments focus will have to shift rapidly to that kind of area. I think it will be a big mistake to ta ke i think it will be a big mistake to take this agent in the treasury that end up albeit inadvertently increasing unemployment levels to even higher levels than we are already likely to experience and as i say there is a big Economic Cost of doing that. Beyond that tragedy and the crisis that unemployment creates for the households, the families that are directly affected by unemployment. We have seen in previous recessions, the longer term scars of unemployment particularly youth unemployment. So although big sums of money is what we are talking about, dont take that right lately. He has to think about the longer term costs to be economy if he ends up sucking out dennant from the economy when we need to keep going. Good to talk to you. This source of an outbreak of coronavirus at west end General Hospital has been identified. The bbc has been told the infection is believed to have come from an accommodation block inside the hospital grounds. The hospital in somerset announced on monday that it had stopped accepting new patients due to a high number of coronavirus cases. We cant speak now that the bbc Points West Health Correspondent matthew hale. Bring us up to date with what is going on. They tested almost 1700 staff here and they have found that 6 were positive even though they displayed no symptoms. One source has told me that the total percentage is 9 of staff infected. The Senior Source from Public Health england has informed me that they are consent centres upon an accommodation block for staff behind the hospital where staff where mingling, they were not necessarily able to observe social distancing working together, that seems to be in the roots of the problem although the hospital itself says they have not got to the bottom of that yet. There is real concern for my source that nurses working here also worked in the community and that they may have spread the virus, not with symptoms which spread the virus, to elderly residents there. Thats something that they will not only be testing the staff here, they have done that, they will be testing residence of care homes locally. There was a concern that this was a problem that they brought in from torres enjoying this wonderful weather but it seems to be a self contained thing and they have just that we have contained a behalf containing department and they put measures in place. They hope to reopen next week. They cannot do a deep cream which means getting the occupancy deep cream which means getting the occu pa ncy levels lower deep cream which means getting the occupancy levels lower and they want to do occupancy levels lower and they want todoa occupancy levels lower and they want to do a reopen as soon as they can because pressure is being put on hospitals in bristol and in taunton where patients are having to be diverted but there are lessons to be learned here about an accommodation of hospitals across the country with similar setups will no doubt to be looking at this. That time now for a looking at this. That time now for a look at the weather. The blue sky and sunshine behind me is an indication of what is to come as we head into the weekend. Yes it remains dry and settled. We will close out the month of may with High Pressure interlinking this story. More breeze coming in off the north sea particularly on saturday afternoon but they will be lots of sunshine to look out for and temperatures will start to respond. A southeasterly breeze and a little fresh along the east coast here and we are likely to see temperatures peaking at 18 to 21 degrees but we could see highest values at 25 to the maidens and parts of south wales. A bit of a remark Early Morning cloud, right wings and perhaps temperatures a degree or so higher particularly across that east coast but in the southwest we might see heights of 27 degrees. If you have not already work it out, it looks as though this weekend will continue to be dry and sunny im 5till continue to be dry and sunny im still pretty warm. This is bbc news with the latest headlines for viewers in the uk and around the world. The uk governement says itll continue to pay tens of billions of pounds, to protect the jobs of furloughed workers, affected by the coronavirus lockdown.
