Bernie sanders cements his status as the Democratic Front runner to take on donald trump in novembers us president ial election. And coming up at 3. 30 a look back at some of the highlights of this weeks Victoria Derbyshire programme. Good afternoon and welcome to bbc news. More than 100 people who were evacuated from china two weeks ago due to the coronaVirus Outbreak are being released from isolation at a Conference Centre in Milton Keynes. The group, who were brought back to britain earlier this month on a Repatriation Flight from wuhan, have been in quarantine since they arrived back. Meanwhile, italy has announced what its described as urgent and extraordinary measures to tackle the biggest coronaVirus Outbreak in europe, with more than 100 people taken ill there. 11 towns in the north of the country have been placed under strict quarantine, with nobody allowed in or out. And the virus is continuing to spread rapidly in asia and the middle east. Jenny kumah reports. Frustration mounts as these people, many in masks, queue up to buy food in the region of lombardy. The supermarket is just outside a town which is on lockdown as part of emergency measures to stop the spread of coronavirus. This policeman tells them that the supermarket wants to open but the managers want to avoid chaos in the shop. They are waiting for instructions to ensure the safety of customers and staff. Italy has seen more confirmed cases of coronavirus than any other country in europe. Two people, both in their 70s, have died. The government has responded by bringing in quarantine measures. Around 50,000 people in lombardy and veneto have been asked to stay at home. Translation italians must not surrender to feelings of panic or counter productive alarmism. They should trust Health Authorities first and then the political and administrative authorities. The World Health Authority is worried by the rise of cases in other parts of the world outside of china. South korea is on its highest level of alert. Here in the uk, around 150 patients who were evacuated from china two weeks ago are being allowed to leave this Training Centre in Milton Keynes after finishing their quarantine. How long have you been inside . Two weeks. How was it . Very good, the staff and everything, everything excellent. The nhs staff done a brilliantjob. Number two, wuhan was quarantined and since we have been here, we have been treated brilliantly. Nine cases of the virus have been confirmed in the uk so far. If a Global Pandemic were to be declared, its likely things would move to a different stage here, with the nhs creating extra beds for the sickest and most vulnerable. Jenny kumar, bbc news. 0ur correspondent katharine da costa sent this update from Milton Keynes. The quarantine was lifted here about 7am this morning and guests were free to go. By midday all 118 people had left this Conference Centre. Manyjust wanted to get home. Some did stop and told us they had been well looked after. They said the first two days had been the hardest when they were confined to their rooms, but they were treated to some creature comforts, mobile phones, tablets and fitness equipment. And their spirits had been boosted by donations from the public including flowers and even toys for the children. Now today, those we spoke to thanked the staff, the doctors and nurses whod looked after them. I thank the people for all what they have done for us, and they tried their best and we are very satisfied. Well, everyone here had been tested for coronavirus three times and each time the test results came back negative. So they pose no risk to the public. This afternoon the nhs released a statement thanking them for their compliance and it noted that in the coming weeks more of us may need to spend more time at home to reduce the spread of this virus. And it said, those here in Milton Keynes had set the best example of how to remain calm and patient in what must have been a very difficult situation. Italy has cancelled the last two days of the venice carnival because of an outbreak of coronavirus. 0ur corresondent in rome, mark lowen, explained the measures being taken to try and contain any further spread of the virus. Effectively around about 50,000 people have been placed under quarantine, banned from leaving or entering those regions as the government scrambles to try to contain this outbreak. As you say, italy is now the country in europe that has been worst affected. There have been more than 100 cases now centred around northern italy, the regions of lombardy, around milan and veneto. And two deaths, both of them elderly people and there have also been attempts to try and stop people from gathering those areas. So for example, football matches in serie a, the top Football League have been cancelled in that area. Also, universities have closed for a week and there is even talk of cancelling the venice carnival. So the Italian Government saying there is no reason to panic, they are putting in place these measures but the fear is, if the Virus Outbreak spreads beyond these regions, into the rest of italy. I can now speak to Sabina Castelfranco whos a freelance journalist who travelled to venice to report on the carnival. How to venice to report on the carnival. Disrupted have for how disrupted have your plans been for the rest of this week . how disrupted have your plans been for the rest of this week . I havent been told i have to be quarantined yet. At the venice airport yesterday afternoon i was tested for coronavirus, or afternoon i was tested for coronavirus, 01 any afternoon i was tested for coronavirus, or any symptoms, which idid not coronavirus, or any symptoms, which i did not have. They also gave me the following leaflet which is an indication of what precautions to take, such as washing your hands frequently. Using disposable kleenex as, also provides a number of the Health Ministry which is 1500, to call in case one feels they have any symptoms. Of course, wearing surgical masks whilst going around the town but its not easy to find these surgical masks. It appears everybody has run out of them, so thatis everybody has run out of them, so that is a bit of a problem at the moment. As you said, the venice carnival has been cancelled today, tomorrow and the final event on tuesday. I did manage to go to the event i had come here for last night and all this has been developing today. What is the atmosphere in venice like at the moment . The reports have been current for several days in the italian media . It was a very festive atmosphere in venice until today, obviously, it was a very festive atmosphere in venice untiltoday, obviously, now people are concerned about what is going on. Two people here in venice have been hospitalised and it appears there are other confirmed cases in the city. So tourists are concerned and there is a lot of people in the city at the moment, obviously, for these events which normally last for a number of weeks. You know, people just normally last for a number of weeks. You know, peoplejust dont normally last for a number of weeks. You know, people just dont know what they need to be doing at this moment. I have seen a lot of people wearing period costumes, carnival costu mes wearing period costumes, carnival costumes and, obviously, surgical masks. It is not the usual masks you see on the streets of venice this time of year. Some of the measures the Italian Government are making, these effective quara ntining the Italian Government are making, these effective quarantining of com plete these effective quarantining of complete towns, but it is leaving some people asking if it is too little, too late . A lot of very strict measures, but italy was one of the first countries to stop flights to and from china. It is very unclear how this kind of situation has developed. Yes, you are rightand situation has developed. Yes, you are right and number of strict measures have been taken, including closing cinemas, schools, universities and people should not go to work in those towns, that are ina go to work in those towns, that are in a situation of lockdown. There is the army there because people have been told to stay indoors and not leave the town and people should not arrive at those towns either. So a lot of very serious measures. I think more are to come, you know. There has been an emergency decree that has been passed that allows the government, basically, it allows the government, basically, it allows the government to adopt special measures and this is what they are doing. Lets see what happens because if it does spread to other regions, it could be very serious indeed for this country. Thank you very much for joining this country. Thank you very much forjoining us, i am glad you were able to enjoy at least some of the carnival and have a safe journey home. Thank you. Well, fears of the coronaVirus Outbreak has also affected those tying the knot in the philippines. The government sponsored mass wedding is an annual event in the city of bacolod. But this year, the 220 couples that attended were given Health Checks and had to wearface masks, even while kissing. The british boxer, tyson fury, has won the wbc world heavyweight title, overwhelming the american, Deontay Wilder, in devastating style. Fury twice knocked his opponent to the floor, before wilder threw in the towel in the seventh round. Its a remarkable comeback for the boxer, whos suffered problems with drink, drugs and depression. 0ur sports editor, dan roan, watched the fight in las vegas. Never one for understatement, tyson fury was carried to the ring on a throne. Would tonight give his career its crowning moment . Clad in armour and his trademark mask, however, Deontay Wilder was a menacing presence. But in a defining performance, it was the british fighter who seized the initiative, fury knocking down his american opponent in the third round and then again in the fifth. Vaunted for his punching power, the bewildered and battered wilder had no response. His corner eventually throwing in the towel in the seventh round of this one sided rematch, the first defeat he had tasted. In the biggest heavyweight fight for a generation, fury had delivered one of british sports most memorable performances. Still unbeaten, the prestigious wbc title his. You know, it feels amazing, it feels amazing, thank you very much. Youve become a true british sporting great. How does it feel . I feel good, you know . Tonight, i probably got lucky. Not bad for an old feather duster. The gypsy kings back, and back to stay. Wilder was absent from the post fight press conference after being taken to hospital as a precaution, and must now decide whether to trigger a clause in the contract for a third fight. Hes got 30 days and well see what happens after that. I cant say what hes going to do. I know what i would advise him to do. Youd advise him not to take it . I wouldnt take it because it will be the same outcome. If he doesnt take it, what would that mean for tyson . What would you like him to do if it wasnt deontay . I would like to see him fightjoshua. For me, its the best performance ive ever seen from a british boxer. This victory completes tyson furys remarkable comeback after his well documented issues with drink, drugs and depression. And after one of the great performances by a british sports star on american soil, the sense is that he could just dominate the heavyweight division for years to come. Dan roan, bbc news, las vegas. As a young boxer tyson fury trained atjimmy egans boxing academy at wythenshawe in manchester. 0ur correspondent fiona trott is there. Not many clubs can say that they have trained a two time heavyweight champion of the world. But this is where it started for tyson fury, here in wythenshawe. 1a years old, six feet four, weighing 1a stone. They took one look at him and knew that he was going to be a champion. I trained him from 14 to 20. Took him to world level on the amateur side, so really, really proud. The first time he came in the gym, within a couple of minutes id said to my dad, jimmy, heavyweight champion of the world. My dad said, hes just walked through the bleedin door. You know, ijust knew. With the talent i could see, the raw talent, you look into the future as youve developed other kids and know how they progress and better and better. Ijust knew hed be heavyweight champion of the world. Well, the children here this afternoon say that tyson fury is a real inspiration for them. For their parents though, they were up watching the match and theyre absolutely shattered. But they say there is still time for celebrations here in wythenshawe. Earlier i spoke to the british heavyweight boxer, and olympic bronze medallist david price, who fought and beat fury as an amateur. He said waking up to watch the fight was worth it. I set my alarm early to get up this morning and, and, i can watch it and totally enjoyed it. It was great, spectacle all around, everything about it was. You know, typical tyson fury, he doesnt do things by halves, but the performance was just fantastic. In the past, some of his problems have come from not doing things by halves, havent they . But he seems to have mastered himself now at this stage in his career. How do you think his performance has changed . It is a massive turnaround from 2 3 years ago and that is why people are so impressed, more than anything because of where he has come from. His performances are just Getting Better and better. That is the thing. I was thinking earlier, you know, tyson fury seems to be able to do anything he wants in a boxing ring. He is capable of doing anything. I still think there is more to come from him, thats the exciting thing about it because last night was the best performance of his career at 31. The momentum he is building since the comeback. To come back from even the first fight with Deontay Wilder, which could have took a lot out of many fighters, and he has come back and absolutely steam rolled him like a man against a boy at times. They are two out of the three best heavyweights in the world, and he has done it to that degree. Yes, and he is still comparatively young, isnt he, for the status he has reached in the ring . I suppose the question is how do you sustain that . You fought against him eight years ago and there was a bit of a rivalry in your day, wasnt there, between the two of you . But you clearly think he has changed as a man. How do you think is changed as a boxer . Hes. I remember when he was younger, obviously i was about five years older than tyson fury and he turned up at training and he was going to do this, that and everything. I didnt believe it, even when we first turned professional and he was saying he was going to be undisputed heavyweight, travelling the world. I just couldnt see it, but that may have been my own ego, not wanting to believe it. But when the time came, where it became apparent that he had surpassed me, so we wanted likely going to fight, you stand back and you look at the good points and you admire that he is capable of. He isjust becoming a much more rounded fighter. Like you said, he can do pretty much anything. He can fight on the back foot, he can mall you, he can fight up close, fight long, and the most important thing for me is his determination. And also how comfortable he is in a boxing ring. He is completely at home in a boxing ring. There is no know this energy being there whatsoever. That is why after three rounds you could see Deontay Wilder was pretty much like a wet lettuce and tyson fury just looked brand new, really. Yes, youre absolutely right. That is a great description. It was very different, wasnt it, from the cocky confidence that both fighters have to display for the cameras and for the public and for their fans, but you really saw that difference not too long into the match. No, it didnt take long for tyson furys extra weight to take its toll and just by putting Deontay Wilder on the back foot, it completely took him out of his rhythm i think. Although he did say he was going to do that before the fight. You know, its like. A lot of bluffing goes on in boxing, it is like a game of poker. So he says he is going to put him on the back foot, then. He said he was going to put klitcho on the back foot and knocking out, that he boxed his head off and went on the back that himself. But he was due to his word. He put wilder there on the back foot and that exhausted him because he is not used to that. Hes used to being the hunter, not the hunted, and he played right into tyson furys hands. You could be one at a diminishing band of boxers in the coming years to say, i wont speak tyson fury. And the last englishman to beat tyson fury. I probably always will be. The headlines on bbc news. More than 100 people who were evacuated from china because of coronavirus are released from isolation in Milton Keynes. The virus has spread to 21 countries six people have now died in south korea. In italy, where more than 100 cases have been confirmed, this years venice carnival has been cut short. Tyson fury defeats Deontay Wilder in las vegas to win the wbc world heavyweight boxing title. And in sport, away from boxing is there is a huge six nations game going on at twickenham. England hosting ireland and they are around 15 minutes in. England have taken an early lead with george ford with the try. Bruno fernandes has scored his first goalfor Bruno Fernandes has scored his first goal for manchester united. They lead watford 2 0 and wolves are beating norwich 3 0 and arsenal play at 4. 30. England have lost their first game at the t20 world cup in australia. They were beaten by south africa by six wickets in perth. We will have more on all of those stories in an hour. At least nine people including three children have died in eastern turkey after an earthquake, with an epicentre on the border with iran. Turkish television showed rescue workers in van province searching for people buried under collapsed buildings after the 5. 7 magnitude quake hit. Reports say more than 40 villages on either side of the border have been affected. A member of the government has defended Boris Johnsons decision not to visit communities affected by flooding in the wake of storm dennis. The Prime Minister has faced criticism, including from some conservative mps. However the environment secretary George Eustace said the government is not a one man show and he added that a National Response centre is dealing with the situation. We have to recognise that the flood infrastructure weve invested in and put in place in the last decade is working and is actually delivering benefits. And in this last week we would have had 25,000 homes flooded were it not for that. I can remember when i worked for David Cameron back in 2007. You will remember, andrew, the controversy over the floods in his constituency in that year. That was a weather event far less severe than we have seen these last two weeks, but 17,000 homes were flooded. So its important to recognise that the work weve done is delivering results, but absolutely, the challenge and the risk we face are greater so we have to do even more besides. Thats why we are putting our money where our mouth is and spending an extra 4 billion in the next five years. A spokesman for the house of lords has defended the chamber as busy and effective after it emerged that peers were paid £23 million last year up 29 on the year before. Critics say unelected members were taking advantage of a lack of scrutiny. 0ur Political Correspondent tom barton is with me now. This story emerges as a result of a front page splash on the times today. There has been a lot of reaction to that, what is the time saying and how are people responding to it because there is a big enough debate, as there has been for the last century . Ever continuing debate about the merits of the house of lords and the way it is constituted. Essentially what the sunday times have done, they have looked at the data which is published in the Public Domain for how much each individual lord claims. They dont have a salary but they entitled to claim for attendance . That is about 800 members of the house of lords altogether and every day that they turn up to the house, they are allowed to claim an allowance of £313. That figure is going to go up later this year to £323. That was approved by the lord isjust very recently. Essentially, the sunday times have looked at how these figures tally up and have found the amount that lords are claiming has increased by 29 in the last, in the year to march last year, compared to the previous year. But more interestingly, they have looked at the number of people who are claiming that daily allowance for turning up, but not actually speaking in the chamber of the house of lords. They found there is more than 100 peers who had, during that year, had not spoken. About 65 of those had claimed despite not making any speeches. Altogether, though 65 peers had claimed more than £1 million of expenses despite not making any speeches during that 12 month period. It is very interesting numbers. The numbers are interesting, but there are a number of complications, it is possible to bea of complications, it is possible to be a member of the house of lords and do nothing, stay at home, in which case you cannot claim the money. You can do Committee Work and all the rest of it, but there is a question about what the house of lords is full, which is a fundamental question that governments never really have a clear a nswer governments never really have a clear answer for. It is useful for them to help get the legislation through, maybe it is the current government tried to increase its number of conservative peers, because it kept getting defeated, especially over brexit. The people i wa nted especially over brexit. The people i wanted to know what they are doing . Yes, there is a broader question on what the purpose of the house of lords is full. It sees itself as a revising chamber, it doesnt think itself as being radical where it can overturn legislation of the government of the day. There are long standing conventions which say that if something has been in a governments manifesto, the house of lords will not oppose it. But what they are proud of doing is looking at the detail of legislation, going line through the legislation. That is for things that havent been done in the time. Yes, these are not elected but they have lots of experience in different areas of life and bringing that expertise to the legislation is something they see as very valuable. Lots of people question that, in particular, the lack of any democratic mandate for the lords. The chamber itself, the house of lords authorities have pushed back quite hard at this story by the sunday times, pointing out, festival on the overall increase to the budget, they say for the year the budget, they say for the year the sunday times was looking at, the lord sat for 25 more days than it had done for the previous year, which obviously when there has been a 29 increase in the amount of spend, seems very relevant. They also make the point this is a chamber which, you know, makes lots of changes to legislation and works very ha rd of changes to legislation and works very hard and they would say it is very hard and they would say it is very good value for money. Tom barton, thank you very much. The left wing senator, Bernie Sanders, has won a resounding victory in the latest contest to choose a democrat candidate for novembers us president ial election. He was backed by more than 40 of voters in nevadas caucuses. The former Vice President , joe biden, finished second. 0ur correspondent sophie long has sent this report. The 78 year old senator from vermont had already left nevada for Campaign Events in texas when he claimed victory. Most candidates have already left nevada to campaign in super tuesday states, which will vote injust over a weeks time. The next debate is in three days. The gloves came off here in las vegas. The fight will continue in south carolina. Sophie long, bbc news, las vegas. Speaking in the past few minutes, President Trump congratulated Bernie Sanders on his victory. I think it was a great win for Bernie Sanders. We will see how it all turns out, they have a lot of winning to do. Frankly, i dont care who i run against, ijust hope they treat him fairly. I hope it is not going to be rigged, because there is a lot of bad things going on. We will see what happens, but i congratulate Bernie Sanders and if its going to be him, he certainly has a substantial lead, we will see what happens. Now, lets get the weather.
