The document seen by the bbc which accuse apricots richest women of making her fortune through corruption and exploiting her own country. Apricots Richest Woman. And the huge hailstones petting parts of australia as storms lead to threats of flooding following bushfires. And the travel show heads to the United States to learn about a project to re wet virginias great dismal swamp. The duke and duchess of sussex are able to begin establishing the details of how their new life free from royal duties will work, after the agreement announced yesterday by the queen. She was at church near sandringham this morning as the Prime Minister borisjohnson said he wished harry and meghan the best and was sure the royal family would find a way forward. But Thomas Markle the duchesss father has accused them of cheapening a great institution. Heres our royal correspondent, nicholas witchell. The words the queen used yesterday about harry and meghan were warm and supportive, but the deal done with them by her officials was an uncompromising one. The reputation of the royal family must be protected. Its already been battered by prince andrews misjudgment and the family doesnt want any embarrassment from the sussexes once theyre cut loose in canada. I think families are always a problem and i think shes dealt with it incredibly well. Ijust think its a shame. And its a shame with the little one as well. Yeah. Yeah, for the whole family. William, charles, everybody. It is. As long as were not paying for the lifestyle theyre hoping to live, then i dont have a problem with that. There was support, too, from the Prime Minister. I think the whole country will want to join in wishing them the very best for the future. I said before that i was sure that the royal family, which has been around a very long time, will find a way forward and im sure it will. But there was a very much less supportive judgment from meghans estranged father, thomas. This is like one of the greatest long living institutions ever. Theyre destroying it. Theyre cheapening it. Theyre making it shabby. Theyre turning it into a walmart with a crown on it. Its slightly more than two years ago that harry and meghan did their First Official engagement together in nottingham. Come this spring, there will be no more of this. They wont be allowed to use their royal rank or to represent the queen. There will be questions about his immigration status in canada, and her declared aim of securing british citizenship. They can earn money, but theyll be expected to avoid anything unseemly. The palace is wary of the american advisors meghan has around her. Theyve already trademarked sussex royal as a charitable and social media vehicle for the couple. But is the use of the word royal still appropriate . Thats just one of the matters still under discussion. All these new arrangements will take effect in the spring. They will be reviewed in 12 months time. But for now, the die is cast. One of the most Popular Figures within the royalfamily is preparing with his wife to say farewell. Nicholas witchell, bbc news, at buckingham palace. The duke and duchess of sussexs official royal duties will cease in the spring, which means theyll no longer be able to throw as much of a spotlight on Charitable Organisations and causes. Our royal correspondent, daniela relph, has been exploring the impact their support has had. Birkenhead a year ago. Harry and meghan at work. Here viewing a sculpture created to mark the hundredth anniversary of the death of the war poet wilfred owen. This is the bread and butter of royal duty that they will no longer do. The couple met the artist who created the sculpture. For him, the visit of a royal prince, who is also an army veteran, really mattered. It brought a huge amount to the town. To the credibility of the project as well. It was big enough on its own, but that little extra bit that the royal brought was incredible. It was phenomenal. It was a very worthy thing, and it will be sadly missed. Royal duty had, on the surface, appeared to suit harry and meghan. They had a natural ease with the public. And, crucially, a more relaxed, informal approach helped them engage with younger, more diverse communities. And im in the same room as the royal couple right now. Much of this kind of work now stops. But they will hang on to some of their projects, those where they are not formally representing the queen. That is where their passion lies, both of them. They are people who want to do good things in the world. And thats their vehicle for doing them. And so i think its great that theyre hanging onto those. The royal family brand is big business, especially here in windsor. It is home for harry and meghan in the uk. Although theyll be spending much less time here, there is support for the decision theyve made. I think probably getting away from it all is. Its their choice and, you know, i think they could have gone about it a little bit differently, but, you know, you dont know what goes on behind closed doors and thats just the way it goes. Palace Officials Say the talks over harry and meghans future have been friendly and constructive. But there will be disappointment within the family that the potential of harry and meghan as working royals wont be realised. Daniela relph, bbc news. World leaders gathered in berlin for the libya peace summit, have agreed to uphold the arms embargo as part of the peace efforts. The agreement aims to stop the flow of foreign weapons and troops into the country. Libya has been plagued for the last 9 years by fighting, between forces loyal to the un backed government and the self styled Libyan National army. The german chancellor, angela merkel, said in a News Conference that a special military committee would be set up to oversee the Peace Process and ensure the truce becomes a full ceasefire. Translation we received commitments by all of the participants that until this meeting of this committee, the participants of the conference of today commit themselves to not give any further support to these parties, to the conflict, in the sense that they do not give any sort of military support to them, that they also will not give them weapons, so that the arms embargo is respected and that the truce holds. I think we created a spirit today that will enable us to pursue the track, this path forward that mr salame had as outlined. Our correspondentjenny hill said the agreement was an important First Step Towards preventing the conflict from escalating and increasing migration to eu countries. Libyas conflict, its civil war, has been grossly exacerbated in recent months by the intervention of foreign powers, whove been aiding both sides by sending them troops, weapons, money and so on. And today, many of those foreign powers whove been in berlin, countries like russia, turkey, the united arab emirates, have agreed that they will stop sending troops, weapons and money into the country. Crucially, this weapons embargo, which hasnt of course been observed. The agreement that theyve come to tonight doesnt cover the troops and weaponry that are already in the country. And, you know, even while the delegates were holding their talks this afternoon, it emerged that troops loyal to general haftar, whos challenging the un backed libyan Prime Minister, had cut off a really Important Oil pipeline in the country. So its clear that this isnt going to make everything better overnight. But the summit organizers believe this is a very important First Step Towards a road to peace. There has been no truce agreed. And as you say, those two warring factions certainly havent agreed to put down their disagreement and work towards peace just yet. But what is now in the pipeline, were told, are a series of meetings potentially between those two sides. So the whole aim of this summit was to try and, if you like, take some of the sting out of the conflict, try and de escalate it so that those two warring factions have at least a chance towards a lasting peace. Jenny, the eu has said that the whole of Northern Africa is affected by the difficult situation in libya. How is what is taking place in libya affecting the wider region . Well, there are three main concerns amongst all of the delegates here in berlin. First of all, of course, libya being a very oil rich country, this conflict is starting to affect oil supplies. Thats a problem. For europe particularly, there are two concerns, though. First of all, the instability in the region is said to be exacerbating islamist terrorism in Northern Africa. Thats something which, of course, europe is particularly concerned about. This is just across the mediterranean. And secondly, theyre very concerned about the flow of people fleeing the conflict. Libya is actually already hosting tens of thousands of refugees. Its also known as a gateway to europe for many migrants and refugees wanting to make thatjourney. So there are concerns certainly here in berlin and beyond that if that conflict isnt de escalated, then actually europe could start to see far more people coming in and seeking asylum here. Boris johnson held bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit, including his first talks as Prime Minister with russias president , vladimir putin. Downing street said the Prime Minister warned that there would be no normalisation of relations with russia until it ended what he called the destabilising activity that threatened the uk and its allies. The latest on the royal story. Thank you for speaking to us from canada. First off, what do you make of this agreement that has now been put in place by the royalfamily . Agreement that has now been put in place by the royal family . agreement that has now been put in place by the royalfamily . I think it is largely up to them what the agreement should be. I think canadians are very surprised to stop when the news was first announced a couple of weeks ago that the duke and duchess of sussex would be spending their time between the uk and north america. We dont tend to see the same amount of day today tabloid coverage, so there had been a lack of awareness as to the difficulties they have been pacing over the past six months and it came as quite a surprise for most canadians like they have been facing. We are still awaiting details of security which we may never have revealed to us. Certainly, security citizenship and tax arrangements we can do, what can you tell is about those . My understanding of the security arrangements are there are established hotels in place for arranging security when members of the royal family are arranging security when members of the royalfamily are in canada. It is likely also be followed in this case. Obviously i have no inside information, so i can tell you anything in particular about that. As per tax, again that would depend on whether they become permanent residents of canada. I think my understanding, though im no tax expert if they do they will be likely liable to tax like anyone else. In terms of citizenship and permanent residency, i dont think we necessarily have an automatic right to do so, but i cant imagine anyone is keen to deny them the right to live in canada. Interested in your thoughts on how the royals are regarded in canada, particularly as the hrh title no longer applies. And also question marks still continuing over the name royal. Does that matter . Although canada does have laws about using the word royal in things, i think those are quite rarely enforced. Canadians in general are quite supportive of the monarchy. There is not a huge amount of the market is not an issue that you canadians face in their day today lives. People are generally quite supportive and they are supportive of it as an element of our National Identity that particularly distinguishes us from the United States. We are very proud of our system of government and how well it has worked. And particularly how it is a uniquely canadian system of government that we have had for about 250 years now. You may have a nswered about 250 years now. You may have answered this already, butjust to clarify, just sum up browse the residency rules of canada. Well, i am certainly no expert in this regard, but there tend to be two canadian citizens have a right to live in canada and i think there are permanent residents which is sort of like indefinite leave to remain in the uk, are not entirely sure of the details. And then of course people come on temporary visas for three or five years to work or study. It is interesting that we are also seeing a lot of interest from your neighbours in the us, who are looking to emigrate and enjoy canadas attributes. What is it about your country that is attractive to so many . Tells about canada. Well, it is a bit cold sometimes. Otherwise, it is nice. It is clean, the people are very friendly, usually. We say sorry a lot. Yeah, i dont know. We have good social policies, a National Health care programme, it is all things canadians are very proud of. Regarded from afar, how was the value that was added, and perhaps now lost, that was brought by harry and meghan to the royal establishment, have they lost something . Im unsure how that is going to play out in the future, that relationship. We have a plan currently, but particularly in canada, what that is likely to mean for harry and megan meghan, the relationship with carrie Going Forward , relationship with carrie Going Forward, what i was going to be like in 2050 forward, what i was going to be like in 20 50 years, canada, i can predict i dont think anyone can. I cant predict. They are a positive force and quite highly regarded. The invicta schemes, which prince hardy is very involved, they were recently held in toronto and canadians were quite proud of that and excited to see a big event like that prince harry. It was organised by prince harry. It was organised by prince harry and happened in toronto. We had a discussion that was opened up year over meghans role in all this and how she was cast two obviously the cultures of north america and the cultures of north america and the uk are a very different. How was that regarded in canada and this perceive rome meghan played in all this . Canada is well used to her already. Yes, i think she lived in toronto for three years, several yea rs toronto for three years, several years while she was working as an actress. I think canadians, i mention this earlier as well, we dont tend to see much day today tabloid coverage of the royal family. Unless they happen to be in canada at the time. So i dont think canadians really have any kind of thinking about the intricate details or meghans role in any of this, because it just hasnt or meghans role in any of this, because itjust hasnt been at the front of the news recently. Thank you very much for that. Youre watching bbc news, temporary head lice. The Queen Attends Church near sandringham after reaching an agreement with prince harry and meghan over their future. A bbc investigation has seen documents that show how africas Richest Woman made herfortune through exploiting her own country and corruption. Isabel dos santos is the daughter of the former angolan president , eduardo dos santos. The documents show she got access to lucrative deals involving land, diamonds, oil and telecoms while herfather was in power. Isobel dos santos has denied any wrongdoing. Richard bilton reports. Isabel dos santos is africas richest women. She lives in london with a glamorous life and famous friends. A leak of more than 700,000 documents from her Business Empire was obtained by the platform to protect whistle blowers in africa, and shared with the International Consortium of investigativejournalists. Much of Isabel Dos Santoss wealth comes from some very dubious deals. Her father is eduardo dos santos, who ruled angola for 38 years. And he followed a pattern he would issue a decree or order, his daughter and her family would get deals on land, telecoms, even for buying and selling angolas diamonds. The documents show, as the years go by, the deals keep coming, and her fortune grows. I think that she got the opportunity to become rich and took the opportunity that her father, by decree, would transfer state assets, state monies, to her. Take oil. Angola has vast reserves. The state oil company, sonangol, gave Isabel Dos Santos a very good deal on a very valuable asset. She was able to buy a lucrative stake in a Portuguese Energy company by paying only 15 up front. The rest turned into a loan from sonangol. That deal made her three quarters of a billion euros. Thats absolutely the definition of corruption. She was put in a favoured position because she was the daughter of the president. It got worse. The president later made his daughter head of sonangol. She says it was a sensible move. I worked for them as a consultant. Then, after i finished my consultancy work, invited me and asked if i would consider a position to become sonangols chairperson. Isabel dos santoss lawyers deny all the bbcs allegations, and say shes been involved in no wrongdoing. They say its a politically motivated witch hunt by the angolan government and the deal with the Energy Company earned sonangol money. But her father is no longer president , and angola wants answers. These documents tell the story of where Isabel Dos Santoss fortune really comes from. Richard bilton, bbc news, angola. And you can watch more on that story in panorama the corrupt billionaire which is on bbc one tomorrow night at 8. 30.
