And around half the rate achieved in recent years from india. The level of growth might look respectable compared with many western industrialized countries. Dad, it says your afib puts you at 5 times greater risk of a stroke. Thats why i take my warfarin every day. But it looks like maybe we should ask your doctor about pradaxa. In a clinical trial, pradaxa® Dabigatran Etexilate mesylate . Was proven superior to warfarin at reducing the risk of stroke. And unlike warfarin, with no regular blood tests or dietary restrictions. Hey thanks for calling my doctor. Sure. Pradaxa is not for people with artificial heart valves. Dont stop taking pradaxa without talking to your doctor. Stopping increases your risk of stroke. Ukraines parliament is called on the United Nations Security Council to monitor the situation, describing it as an armed occupation. Well, lets pick up with whats happening at two airports in the crimea, which is an autonomous region of ukraine largely inhabited by russians and other groups as well. It has the the biggest Russian Naval base there. The main airport is a joint airfield which is held both by the domestic and civilian parts and also it belongs to the Ukrainian Defense ministry. The bbcs Christian Frazier has tried to get into the sevatopol international airport. Reporter you might be able to see behind me the control tower and what looks like a military base. You can see there are barriers stopping anyone from entering. A couple hundred yards on, a very professional looking unit. They are carrying highpowered assault rifles, kevlar hell mats. They have not been down the road to meet us or talk to us, so we dont know who they are. Quite clearly were not allowed to go beyond this point. Let me show you what is in front of the barriers. This is really what you would call a civilian guard. We spoke to this man here. He is a ukrainian who speaks russian. The flags flying on the road signs are russian sympathizers. They dont want to talk to us at all. They dont like the presence of the western media here. What we are seeing is a patent on our journey. We came through a roadblock last night. Quite a significant roadblock. They were stopping all cars coming to sevastopol. The parliament is still in session. Yet these men are inside. And also theres been a takeover of the airport as well. If it is a russian presence, it is a sense of say nothing. No one is saying who they are. The difficulty here is there is no insignia on these men or the vehicles. But looking at the Facebook Page of the interior minister, hes under no illusions who they are. They are working for the russian minister. And in his words this is a military takeover. Christian frazier outside the international airport, civilian airport, which is also military outside sevastopol. What about what is happening inside sevastopol . Mark, where are you and what are you sense something. Reporter nick, im speaking to you from overlooking the port here. The feeling is of real tension in this region. In the last couple of days we have had demonstrations from the different ethnic communities here. We have had the Parliament Building seized and the russian flag hoisted above it. And a team just moved to the port very close to where im speaking to you now. And there were reports of a russian ship blockading the port. She tells us actually theres just one single russian ship there. And a few locals watching. It is quite usual to see that. We have heard there that ukrainian interior minister has called this an occupation, invasion by russia. And of course the black sea fleet here. Were moscow to be driving this and show of strength, it would be seen as extremely worrying of the ethnic ukrainians here and the muslim tatas who make up an ethnic minority here. They would fight any attempt of military intervention. Mark, thanks for joining us. The signal was breaking up. He said there is real and growing tension which is very palpable. To turkey, the Prime Minister accused his enemies and the police of trying to bring down his government. It follows a phone call in which he supposedly tells his son to dispose of millions of euros in cash. The recording was fabricated, he says. In december a number of the Prime Ministers allies were detained on suspicion of corruption. In myanmar, the government suspended operations of one of the biggest aid agencyings working in its troubled rekine state. They say it had been biased. To uganda, which says it is being black mailed. The banks decision comes days after the president signed new laws which toughen the penalties against homosexuality. The bank says it needs to consider whether the Health Projects it finances could be harmed by a clause which criminalizes the promotion of homosexuality. I asked the African Regional editor mary hopper whether the president expected this tough reaction from the International Community. I think he did expect it. This is the west in particular has always reacted aggressively when african countries sign into legislation tough laws. I think hes quite enjoying the tussle as are his various ministers and spokespeople. Every time the United States, for example, and now the world bank come out with aggressive comments towards uganda and decisions such as the world banks to postpone a 90 million aid package, the ugandan officials basically become more resolute in their defines. They describe it as blackmail. They say they are being treated as slaves by the west. Theyre going to get on their lives and economies without these funds. When you say they will get on without these funds, what would be the impact of withdrawing of a 90 million it is a loan. They have to pay it back eventually. But the impact of that in terms of liquidity of country. It is going to create a lot of problems. It is not to top the aid going into uganda. Its more to redirect it away from the government towards aid organizations. They are obviously concerned that the fast majority of ugandans need that kind of money. But the Current Situation in a lot of african countries, for example, uganda, is that places like china are funding them as well. Theyre not so bothered about internal politics or internal legislation. Uganda has got oil reserves now. So its going to have its own source of wealth. Many people pay a lot of money to go to norway or iceland to see the northern lights. But many skies have given a glimpse of this phenomenon. Viewers sent us some of their pictures of the aurora borealis. It is unusual to see the lights this far south. The display is caused by electrically charged particles from the sun. If there are enough of them, they will travel down towards the equator and cause the lights to go further south. Let me give you the latest on ukraine. It has been announced in switzerland that judicial authorities have said they are launching a criminal investigation into alleged Money Laundering by ousted leader Viktor Yanukovych and his son. They are seeing it is freezing the assets of 20 ukrainian officials, including yanukovych and his son and former ministers. But he says he is still the president. In an hour we will see him appear in a russian city just north of ukraine to make it clear he believes he is still the president. We will wait to hear what he says. Meanwhile, ukraines parliament has called for special session of the u. N. Security council to discuss whats happening in crimea, a new dimensions to the crisis. Uganda says it is being black mailed by the International Community. It is believed to be the biggest ever criminal crackdown on the fraud. Over 100 people are arrested for selling bogus shares. Hello, everyone. We begin with a growing sense of crisis and a new dimension of problems in the ukraine where the interior minister had described all of this as an armed invasion. Groups of armed men have taken over two airports in crimea. Thats a largely russian speaking part of ukraine, which is also home to a massive Russian Naval base. Well, this is simferopol, the capital. Who are the men in battle fatigues with no insignias. The situation is less clear at nearby sevastopol. It has been taken over by unidentified armed men. You can see close up some of the ukrainian operated defense warplanes sitting there on the tarmac. Well, our World Affairs correspondent nick childs has the latest. Reporter unsubtling images for the new authorities in the ukrainian capital kiev and for many more looking on. Armed men on guard in crimea with its ethnic russian majority. In uniform without identifying markings. Prorussian, no doubt. But is there anything more to it than that . With word of similar developments, ukraines new interior minister has spoken of a home invasion. Outwardly it looks calm. The airport has been operating more or less normally. Translator the situation is very complicated. Firstly, we look at the law seriously, we have to take strict measures. And this might stir up trouble. But on the other hand, if we take a very soft approach then we might lose crimea. Reporter where does the kremlin really stand . It certainly made clear its unhappiness with the turn of events in kiev. Tensions have been rising. It has been given sanctuary to Viktor Yanukovych, who is to give his side of the story in a news conference. But the kremlin is talking about cooperation with International Bodies on much needed Financial Support for ukraine. Nick childs, bbc news. We will be hearing from our reporter shortly, trying to get into the airport. Bridgett, an armed invasion in kiev. And this indication that there are russian elements who are taking over the ukrainian facilities at their airports. Whats your interpretation . Well, let me tell you what the russian authorities are saying. A spokesman for the black sea fleet has denied they are involved in any way in the block aid of military airport which is where they are. Here in moscow, the Foreign Ministry and Defense Ministry are being asked to comment. They have said nothing. Up till now the position of the russian government has been rather ambivalent. It said we will wait and see who is nominated and what their policies are. But they have also been very supportive of russian speakers in ukraine and the crimea. But nick, this morning, president putin later today will have a meeting with senior parliamentarians. He said ukraine wouldnt be top of the agenda with the talks with the parliamentarians. They have come out with some comments which do sound rather hostile to the authorities. Antagonistic. He said its not clear that it was valid or the new parliament or government are really legitimate. He argued crowd control in crowd ruling kiev and the militias could lead to a change of government and change the countrys future. Then why couldnt crimea do the same thing . If those are the views which would reflect i think it would warn western governments who back them quite a lot. But at the same time we know mr. Putin and his Prime Minister have been in touch with western governments throughout this crisis and have been trying to reassure them that the kremlin has no negative intentions towards kiev. So its a little difficult to read whats coming. But the omens do not look encouraging. They have Just Announced they will ask for mr. Yanukovych to be extradited from russia. This literally an hour before we arrives just north of the border to show hes in russia and hes put into position. I dont suppose the russian authorities will respond to that favorably, especially given the comments i just quoted from a senior parliamentarian. They have allowed him to have a Statement Read on Russian Television in which he declared hes a lawful president of the ukraine. They announce they are sympathetic towards him, even prepared to look after him. Reportedly, they said they will give protection from extremists in kiev. So i dont think they would respond to request for extradition. Lets return to what is essentially a Ukrainian Military outside outside to the north of the city still being controlled by men reportedly to be wearing russian uniforms. You might be able to see what looks like a military base. Were 500 meters from the main gate. There are barriers. Just a couple hundred yards on, a very professional unit. These men are carrying highpowered assault rifles. There are two unmarked soft skinned personnel carriers. They have not been down the road to meet us or talk to us. We dont know who they are. Let me show you whats here in front of the barriers. This is really what you would call a civilian guard. He is a ukrainian who speaks russian. The flags that are flying on the road signs here are flags of russian sympathizers. They dont want to talk to us at all. They dont like the presence of the western media here.
