Good morning with you till midday money's done and thank you so much for all of these polls on tech Sunday Miles it's been so busy. The form buttressed give you access to vital services like housing and health you'll also get discounts in various shops sounds like a good I did overwhelmingly according to the list this this morning Steve. Morning Dan I yes I'm out and about this morning in Baghdad and adored and I should say 30 minutes how much dawdling indoors about the cost of Christmas we want to know if it's scaring or worrying people they sure have to admit this it's closed because it's worrying me and it's 70 out today says one in 5 of us fail on the pressure to buy the so-called perfect present and will spend up to 150 pounds on clothes family Palmas and children the amount spent on parents is about $75.00 quid each but with the pressure base it's no wonder people are going to go into debt so I'm going to report back to you Donna a little later on in Dourdan good luck the dog and dawdling the golden producer Kev Good morning morning Danny going to talk physiotherapy in this next half an hour you headed off for some on your shoulder yesterday it's working better for you today isn't it it's been fun overnight so I sit down at the b.b.c. With that we got this top physiotherapist coming into the studio to give you the one of a down and you're going to talk to you and we also want to hear about other people's physio therapy adventures if they've had physiotherapy What was it like for them did it work for them give us a call 3453 double double 956 and also for the benefit of the audience just shooting it would be about this military discount because I'm the guy behind it is Tobias I wouldn't think children yes I think he's ex-military I'm selfish of thinking is I think he's proved green jackets for much the months he wants a 9096 serving in northern Cyprus Que a German Gibraltar opposed to left The only at the rank of captain is currently in the reserves to buy a cd a business development manager anyway he said thing but he's committed to talk about it he is in the next half an hour before Haas 10 let's to think for the military 10 to 20 percent you got it. He challenged completely c.w. Among the following point c. Radio for the West Midlands you know these bullet plugs are like. a. While McColl we're going to go go go check out. The list of 95.6 for regular listeners I guess you would have heard over recent months about my shoulder. The symptoms manifesting in pins and needles them are right on while yesterday I went for an initial physio therapist. Session and I didn't leave Star jumping out of the the procedure room book I nevertheless did feel the benefits of it and in the studio with me now is John Price from Midlands physio therapy in Redditch just moved. John Feit and you've worked with with some real elite athletes haven't you know that today will be you'll be in the comfort zone. Absolutely absolutely yes if you work so well with varying city for about 11 years or to get a yes or no back back in the day it's a few years ago now but yeah it was good good times good which managers would use so I was recently there with Barry Barry took me on originally back in the day Barry Fry But what was he like a half time when you lose one mil interest in and didn't go in as a party for your naked in the in the corner flag because he wanted to break a gypsy's curse so I understand but anybody and I disagree with her now that he did some pretty unusual things so I was there with Barry for a few years I was I was there during travel Francis's And then Steve Bruce was the manager when when I left which was a few years ago I know what would you all rolled and so you would have been Woman the the muscle I would be for and we would do that that would be part of what we did getting the players ready prepared for the 4 for the games but really the physio department their work done during the week really getting the players available for the manager to select from on a on a Friday are our job really was to get as many players available for the manager so he could pick them put his team together for the weekend and the manager Rescuers say listen John with which of the lads who are reacting well to treatment you know all the time yeah well they make 90 minutes on Saturday absolutely remember nationally one and we always had a criteria that they have to be a 100 percent fit to complete the 90 minutes if the if the manager wanted them to. To be available to be available for the how not even right otherwise you'd say listen got failure only going to half a half of a game and the manager's worried about the gang quite rightly that's that's the most important thing. You know he had to have a fully fully fit squad one of the painkilling injections is a quite common I wouldn't say it's common but but it but it would happen under certain circumstances it happens less these days really because we're aware of the the implications of of doing that too often to the players went when in the seventy's we're really suffering now so basically the injection took away the pain but it didn't take away the problem Problem solved it would have made the problem worse because what I limited understanding John is that my shoulder is trying to tell me something maybe those muscles are contracted to protect me and if you were to give me a job to or need the ties that I carried on moving around then or going to do further damage done if we did that just to get you to do your job you know that wouldn't be a good idea sometimes with a shoulder an injection can be a good idea because it just helps the likes of us physios just helps you move on to the next stage really so with a shoulder it can be appropriate but it's best to try some physio 1st to see Jennifer continued talk about burning system for snakes and others did you ever run on the pitch you once was injured he had it's yeah yeah yeah. Well I guess my judgment that we had the magic sponge in there and the Magic Bag the absence of which was the most hostile grounds for. Millwall away correct spot on and and you'll remember and you may remember don't remember what we're going to terms with a playoff semifinal at Millwall that that was incredible that was the coach got bricked on the way out and it was quite quite interesting sort of the 1st team coach you have there and I went once with the police to let us out of the game at the end of the end of the match which we. They're gone midnight because there was all sorts going on and and it's quite a funny story actually because Steve was the manager Steve Bruce and and it's very rare that I've seen Steve alarmed and and we pull him away from the ground then all of a sudden he said something to coach driver and because I could tell he was agitated by something in Iraq I couldn't quite work out or set up a little bit too little money and he gave the coach driver some instructions because Steve obviously knew what was going to happen and as we're pulling out of. Out of the ground it must have been a no mile away. We went through this t. Junction of which we had to turn left at and out of both sides of the the out of nowhere was a number of people chucking bricks and all sorts at the coach and it was an instant was over in in a few seconds but for that few seconds it was quite alarming to you know have a police escort. The irony being that we had a police escort and what up until that point and then the police escort you know that they must have known what Millwall away the police would need a police escort. If you don't about the army that's what it you need to deploy the army was you know it was it was. To say it was it was an interesting experience and so you decided to leave the blues you know and set up your own practice my own practice in committee yes because I live over that business you know good good it's nice no you're treating every day citizens like myself absolutely nothing special Well one athlete anyway Well I do see quite a few local athletes really but not you know have some top level athletes come in but but really to and I'm sure my physio colleagues will say everybody's the same really yes we tend to get you know 2 or 3 stone overweight you know if you carry weight does that affect your eye but it affects your posture it affects how you're limbs I know that if you carry too much weight it can affect your skeleton and that will have an effect on the muscles it will have an effect in in in many conditions you know somewhere. Loss will help lots of bad backs by the next bad shelter it will help there's no doubt about that of course but of course the details with white lies to help or sorts of conditions as well as into the school now. My condition I had physio yesterday close to me local to the us where I went and the woman mobilized an area of my back we've been taught and I've been listening Dr and we've been talking about the military mobilizing this morning and she mobilized the top of my back and she she says that it's. One of those things that are it's a muscle that lets you operative pages there and working down the bones what is there you vertebra Yeah that's a vertebrae thing so she was trying to Lucian and free and all of the symptoms manifest in shooting pains and pins and needles down my right arm and so she put me through some basic procedures and she says if you get pins and needles if you look to your left and you stretch your own box as a help and it doesn't leave you it's the issue now from the limited bit of information what would your diagnosis be and I'm not expecting a professional 100 percent diagnosis like my suspicion would be from from what you've explained and what your or your what your physios done for that they'll be where you'll know it's your spine you have to go and then operate the muscles of the. Fingers and all those things where that where the nerve is actually the spine there's going to be it can be pinched and it might be pinched by some of it what's called the Interfet will disc which is the jelly like substance in between the bones or it might be a joint or there might be a narrowing of the space would it help if I turned around and put my back to you and then you can cause John in Iraq on the same side of the of the studio desk and produce a curve is in charge of all the work so most of them cuff. All right Sean So yeah work away see what you think just describe what you do in a little running commentary so as I'm putting my I call them pauses apartment pause on yeah yeah you know that I can feel the right side of your shoulder is really really tight but what that will lead me to suggest. Is that actually we just stand up for us because we can. So what what I'm interested in is is the position of your shoulder blade which can move this chair from I don't sit down because the chair is not there anymore so if we just turn around and then I look at your shoulder blade and as I look at shoulder blade that I'm going to look at the position of your hand can see the position of you how Meg is going to back your hand is facing forward and where on that side on your left side your hand is more sideways on to you so that's going to suggest to me what what's happening is your your shoulders being pulled forward and that's what we've got to concentrate on that's why your physio is louche and all those muscles off their knee joints off there so in an attempt to get your shoulder blade back where it belongs I suspect in this is this is upset myself for 40 are you right handed you see what tends to happen is on our dominant side the muscles will start to pull you forward and that will take your shoulder blade into the you know slightly unusual position and as I said that's why we need to get your shoulder blade back where it belongs to to help alleviate your problem Ok so it's sort of and she was very positive she was very hopeful that things could be improved you know indeed fixed. Absolutely yet you know something like that responds very well to physio actually because it's subtle This is not a it's not a major pathology it doesn't look like it's a living major going on it's just a little bit of fine tuning really that we the injury that all the care because you do the same things every day with or without. Structure to sleep so long as you just look over there it's those phases that I go go. Up and down exactly on the sober establishing this is a profession opinions the b.b.c. Is what we are lawyers are listening to the same litigation in the absolute way you jump price for the physio travel website yet w w w w dot middlings fish yet you carry Goodman wants to sort your things couldn't thank you. Jay says Now look I'm going to cynicism coming through on the text now I don't know won't a few of you think that I'm here on the radio today but certainly not to block freebies that's a show. Chris says Don company if you find you need some free treatment under the umbrella of an interview on your show. Though goes further than if he spoke to stun the butcher this yes about the price and he's actually kind of that's a good point we need to get started on it so what do you say can be had for. Coal stoop a for all of my turkeys and sausage meat and. Sides of of Hama poolside pay for the Jasons in Huns with Jack good morning Daryn good morning now if you had to tell you well Midlands physio seem to be that the boys and girls to go to tell you I'm feeling better already well it was approximately 10 years ago for months now because it's also for We've often or system or white hand sewing Ok. When she sees me I. You know I go maybe shoulder you know you know I go pee leg tighten except truck and a kind back and I felt worse oh well maybe I went to a rubbish this you know. What it we were fine I had checked. Well the things with the n.h.s. That the white English I mean if you read pain you could wait 6 weeks to get an n.h.s. Physio therapy apply why mention I yeah I know just this regards my mother who's disciple because. My mother's After all it is really bad sorry went through like a house in fact my mom lied I am. Probably stuck on the floor trying to Parchman it. Could see the nurse could try worse you get Ok you get Ok but she couldn't. My mom could not look at very much that was white I saw didn't car and east or west or boy and when she heard noise mom was saying say. Hi or just talk right Jason thank you thank you was in all feels really good morning hello Donna thank you is your therapy if you had it yeah my mom was probably 15 years ago mine is a long while but I had this pain me sort of Caudle I didn't go to my doctors but I was talking to the sister in law and she recommended a sports vision so I went there I went about 6 times I think cost me bad on $120.00 wouldn't panel together which is a lot of money in and life and in the end it just turned and said I can't do any more for you. I recommend you go to the doctor. And ask him for a cortisone injection which I did I went to the doctors explained everything you can record it's an injection and that was it it's a gun never that it's a percent really didn't have to keep going back for more jobs you know. What you want just to get me really but what is a pull his own injection. Well I know as much as really that just inject something. I wonder whether John Price knows John York do you know what a court judge just come in for a 2nd John is in the other studio let's just find out what a court Roy Roy statis impulsion come in take the red microphone make Let's find out what is a quarter so injection we got 60 seconds put headphones on you can talk to Roy if you like this John Price from Midland physio he was just he thought he was about to walk out of his car what John said so much when the when when the medics and actually some physios can inject shoulders and of the joints as well but so it's and I'm she inflammatory there's an anti-inflammatory agent goes into it and it's just enough to come in inflammation down under the in we call it super chromium space which is a bit underneath the bony bit of your shoulder so we just comment the inflammation down that's sometimes enough just to get you back going again and you know what pain since Roy and this is 15 years no I've never had. And that and that's quite normal that's not unusual at all but I couldn't have it for myself we don't like to do them as a as a 1st line of defense because normally the medics would only like to do probably up to 3 so we like to keep them in reserve if possible but actually physio is not working for you actually yet that No not never worked for me and then you know as as your caller mentioned it it's enough just to take it on to the next level Roy good but thank you very much for Dan I thought a lot thank you John Price but let's physio you can go no. Danny Kelly Saindon un. A radio for the West. Ok good morning now for the 1st hour of the show we were talking amongst other things about military veterans who are up to 25W2C military veterans are going to have special identification cards if you like to allow them preferential deals on the high streets to allow as I understand although there was very little meat on the bones this morning we're going to be talking to the man behind the initiative very shortly but to allow the fuss truck into housing and health care indeed Let's go now to Tobias Elwood and the appointed parliamentary under secretary of state at the Ministry of Defense Good morning from but again Mr Elwood tell us more about this caught Well delighted to be able to promote this I remember myself as a soldier the sense of loss that was when I had to hand in my service id card you're made to carry this around from the very start of your service it becomes part of you it's it is your identity and you then when you finally pack up your uniform and slide it back across to the quartermaster and send it to civilian It is a very very strange feeling and we owe veterans those who have served our country a huge debt of gratitude and this will allow. To absolute rights and also supports those veterans that the nation will say thank you to and only part of part of the Armed Forces covenant just explained is this sort of duty of care that we have to those have to make sure they are not disadvantaged So this id card will allow a local council for examples to confirm veteran status so that they can be given the necessary housing and their requirements to provide that support from from education and other aspects can be met so I'm really pleased that we can properly recognize those who have the country in basic layman's terms how will it benefits by the way you'll be the like the no to buy it's not overwhelmingly it has some fabulous a pull we've been talking about it in the 1st what we weren't too sure about were the terms and conditions and how it would benefit because we had you know sketchy press reports for example fuss trucking with housing What does that mean well it's up to the councils themselves they have a duty of care under the the armed forces covenant to make sure that no person armed forces personnel who have served are disadvantaged and what about advantage though does advantage them well this is what we're looking at is many ways in which they can provide support if you go to somewhere like. Stafford check out so they have an amazing program to provide that support it is different around the country the covenant is only just come into play and we need to advance that to make sure that all councils are offering the necessary support so nobody is disadvantage but it does I'll be honest with you it does vary from local authority to local authorities and we still find that people are homeless that they're not getting necessarily the support they actually should deserve but by making sure that we can recognize straight away that somebody is a veteran So for example on a health perspective to ask those questions for a doctor to be able to confirm that somebody is a veteran. And to make sure that they're getting the support the more specific support that they may require the identification of the veteran itself will provide to will be helpful to support that I understand so this is purely a way of identifying someone who served with the military the the armed forces confidence what I find interesting in this throughout which is not all councils will treat it with the same level of seriousness is you would like from what I've just picked up and what we need to do is to change that these are very early days and part of having a veterans board in Whitehall is to make sure that the department local government the n.h.s. That the m o d and the devolved regions are so full of all able to meet that covenant responsibilities and that's so important that we drive that home but also stay safe whether there is a way that we can also celebrate what our veterans are doing because there are ways that commercial operations may wish to invite and say veterans welcome here I would offer something you may not and this goes for example and that I think is something anybody who's visited the United States you go through an airport and they'll be a veterans' lounge specifically for those who are so fat is a sort of way I think we can say thank you to those who won the uniform and served our country do you think we should thank veterans more that this was the 1st of the show this morning by us was as weatherize a radio presenter if you like paid by the public purse through the license for the weather I should thank a military vet when they pick up the phone to talk to me overwhelmingly it was yes I absolutely am and how it is a British reserve admits in that but we you know part of what Britain is who we are how we've seen across the world is thanks to the professionalism of our armed forces bill 80 to understand and shape the world around us is thanks to the very people that make up our own navy our army and our Air Force and we owe them a huge debt of gratitude we just Xperia. Saying and reflecting on a 100 years since the 1st of all the sacrifice that was made then and it's just as important today and it's changing and challenging world that we are able to recruit a new generation coming through but also to say thank you and make sure we look after those who once they have served and move back in civilian street that they are looked after do we do enough because there are so many We were talking to one military vet this militants abayas He reckoned that when his figures came from I don't know but there was 7000 homeless military vets. I'm not aware of that figure itself what we have is an incredible charitable sector that focus on indeed is funded by. The government and other sources as well it's designed that way in other ways to combat stress for example has expertise to help those that are suffering from for sort of you know mental stress and so forth I should say that 14000. Armed Forces personnel become veterans every single year that's the sort of you know rotation that we get through 90 percent are able to get a job or back an education within 6 months and but a small percentage through no fault of their own do require support and we just need to make sure that there are there are of a 400 charities out there some of the big names such as combat stress so healthy heroes of the British Legion are that there is a gateway there's a simple way of being able to access that help and that has the armed forces that will gateway itself the veterans Gateway which is an online portal allows us to exactly do that to allow all the charities to be you know the majority of charities be big charities be represented so any individual can then see where they have to go and get advice on how to actually receive the help that they need so we don't here's to 6 like that although I have to say I don't recognize them Ok Tobias just a final point and once again just to repeat you have overwhelming support in the Midlands what about commercial enterprises I mean if someone like for example Ford will voxel all coteries and trying to think of a diverse range of products that people can purchase made a big deal of a vets discount military vet discount also the minute you pose no just like they do in the States I mean that could then start things could not get the ball rolling other yes I'd like to get I'd like to play something and it's already happening because those that sign up to the armed forces covenant and we're about to celebrate the tooth 2000 and organization to do so next week in fact these are organized. Asians. Telecom companies for example offering deals not only as to veterans but also to enforce them as well you've got to think about somebody that's based in the u.k. Suddenly gets mobilized to Afghanistan should they receive a penalty fee for having to sort of you know cut tell that contract and businesses are actually being very helpful to say we will actually support and provide drop the penalty charges for example or provide discounts and so forth for those are serving your house so yes absolutely I'd encourage businesses to ask what they can do to Ana's on a small or large basis to support our brave veterans Thanks again an overwhelming support in the middle instance device thank you very much indeed thank you sir thank you well there you go from the horse's mouth with the chase and moaning delighted to hear from some bias wouldn't pay former serving soldier himself. Yet great what sort of deals can you get though I don't know what sort discounts can you get it would be great wouldn't it be great so I'm being the spokes person for the tone and context of the 1st 45 minutes of the show and it was overwhelming support full as much support going above and beyond for military so the military an ex-military I got in that context allowed me to be everybody's spokes person wouldn't it be great if for example small shops we were talking about butchers earlier on stun the butcher who we will talk to at some point before Christmas all about turkeys and what sorts of breeds a turkey in that size a turkey simple things that we do every year year in year out if I was a butcher I wonder how how how it would be treated and looked on if for example I put aside saying 20 percent off for military vets 20 percent off for ex military or serving military and their families would that be much of an appetite for them this is the card that's being rolled out now if I went into stand shop and said Stan I understand that you give 20 percent off for military it's able was your idea because every Tom Dick and Harry can just go in there and say I served with the military or. You've got the. Songs that make you sing. Songs that make you don't. Bring back the memories. Seize b.b.c. Wm non-supporting point 6 radio for the West metal and let's just bring it down to a high streets context should small independents I'm just wondering right now this this company's listening to me of course the rick cabbies listening should you often a couple of pop off if you will carrying around someone who served in the military Stan em's in his book choosing King's 8th showed every day high street stores and shops stop putting in the windows 10 percent off full military 10 percent selfie taxi fare if you are military what about us what about you call it. It's all very well to bring up a radio station and say yeah I really value our military but all you prepared to put your money where your mouth is use called tailless if your military you could provide evidence you got an extra $150.00 quid off or a full tank of fuel something like a little incentive to make them feel good about what they've done. Or is that just going overboard maybe people worried that we're becoming too much like America I mean to buy a cell with that was talking about an airport you have a you have your own private lounge if you're military or ex-military or we go on a little bit too overboard or really should high street stores and independents get behind this what do you think of 3453 double 0 double 956 and you know what maybe you're a painter and decorator listening to Wm Now if you put some emotional lounge wall do you feel that you should not be couple above off an electrician you name it you've probably got the radio on now while she wants your work in someone's house or you drive into a job or you're a Korea you can see where I'm going with this basically if someone engages your services will buy the product off you no matter what it is and then military or ex-military would you like to offer that a discount maybe someone thinks that today's the day to talk about maybe reducing the price on an every day level for military or ex-military. 3 full 432 below. 6 which. Let me just recently something just one second I need to go over to my friend and colleague Steve Herman who is out on a boat for safe. Morning I am indoor time where if I'm fully concentrating for you Danny talking to people about Christmas it's Christmas time when there's no need to be afraid the opening line to die did I know it's Christmas but many people all are afraid and scared about the cost of Christmas which is why I've been speaking to people in Dourdan about this morning I have to admit I am one of them because it really costly and I'm just waiting a few days till pay day before I get going with my Christmas shopping and there's not much time left but this survey says that inflation is making a big difference and a lot of people are going to spend around $75.00 pounds just on parents and kids alone. Sorry just on my parents allowed $150.00 quid perhaps total I think I'm probably going to pass that again another worry but so what about the people of doored Morden portly I spoke to them earlier. So you were always your. Identity if you know. Football I knew about all we got that just go up. Simers. And that kid. Use. To spend far too much money you know it's interesting you say that because. My friend's daughter in August and. My Little Pony present Castle thing Princes Gardens castle. A ball if I showed it to my daughter which was I want it ever since then she wanted it for Christmas. To vote for me and back. Everybody you got to try and keep what we have a body you have family. Do you or do you have family members you feel under pressure you think. Adrian speaks very cold December day so there's only a few only a couple of weeks before Christmas last. Year ready yeah already. There's a report out today talking about the cost of Christmas and he says that people searching under pressure for the perfect present will spend up to $150.00 pounds on close family like. Children you know anywhere near that. Yeah yeah I mean you know nothing comes straight after 9 bronze on everything so yeah it is about 250 pounds if you do you feel the pressure you know where when your kids on this I specifically want. You know you want to you want to please them Oh yeah yeah Christmas Yeah I mean you know when we was kids we had everything that we could have one of the lucky ones I suppose and then yeah trying to this one from a song I have to admit is I mean I've got a 4 year old niece or an off year old and the 4 year old knows exactly what she wants she's known for a few months and you do things right guys are definitely going to get a definite go to get out and then you've obviously got parents and other people and and it does add up doesn't it it certainly does yeah yeah everything you go in the shops all night you just get so expensive at Christmas Ok yeah even car alarm Steve thank you. Travel. Back to normal.
