Yes Up next week the Asian Cup kicks off an hour of the Asia's biggest football competition and that is expanded from 16 teams to 24 for the 1st time ever which means we'll see them as Mark mentioned Yemen are in for the 1st time because expand qualified out of the qualifier for the 1st time and the Philippines have a certain spend Goran Eriksson in charge for this tournament which will be I think very interesting to see see how they get on in the tournament I think in terms of up and coming powers in a nature one I mentioned I think Vietnam really is making a loss tries to go some you know good the youth programs there now and some good academies and the talents always been there I think but it's much more of it now with a national team you know a South Korean man in charge a coach called Patrick saw he was part of the coaching staff from the hitting in 2002 and he has been the heights in the Kalitta quite a while as well known figure in Korean football was quite pragmatic coach and he's taken over the Vietnam national team and turned him into a much more hard to beat team still technically very good but a bit more defensive and counter 2nd team and they have some really really good young players and the nucleus of the team comes from the under $23.00 say that recent final of the Asian Championships here ago and the passion and how come she went crazy and he became a hero and then in the Asian Games which is a different competition of course it was last August again and the $23.00 tournament being on the well. Last 2 just lost to Japan I think in a Cup stage and then it qualified for the Asian Cup. I think because of of the way the tournament structure 24 teams only eighteen's don't progress to the 2nd round and you have to fancy Be Announced get to knockout stage and see what happens. But I think certainly the many scenes break out in Southeast Asia should be the. Elsewhere in the thing as you mentioned you know the glory days for the last decade and a half or behind when they came close qualifying for just the 6 World Cup and lost out to Trinidad and Tobago in the playoffs. And I think it will be interesting to see what happens in the Asian community rock again a very inconsistent team the always got lots of talent always exciting to watch and he's an easy and far for waste a lot of issues in football unfortunately violence corruption and all kinds of problems. But look he's conscious of the game but an Asian Cup starts next week he should be 1st in competition see what happens Mark is that an answer to your question yeah it was fantastic it was a much more in-depth you know. The locker just trying to compare India and is there a particular club side that you support the maybe go to which for 2019 maybe a country even. Score went. As far as a goal is just messed up it's been 20 I remember 8 years old and been swept away by what a cup fever and so I'm certain sensation it's just been knocked off exceptional fun so just call me Spain a 2nd tier of Scottish football just kind of. Well good luck with both of those I think you know may be difficult but we'll see what happens thank you very much Mark thanks a lot and listen while we're on the topic of the Asian Cup and a little bit to do with Scotland as well we've got a mike in Ed just asking have any other nations taking part in the Asian Cup stop their players from playing for their club sides as Australia have done by stopping Tom rocket from playing in the Old Firm Darby later today. And I'm not sure about that one and all there were any groundswell of opinion by clubs who after all play the players' wages that they are against this country over a club fee for rules I think what you guys think do clubs stop many of the players in the build up to the Asian Cup from prefer playing from playing for their clubs. Well is a thief a recognized tournament we know night the Asian Games which is a different form of last year where clubs didn't have to release players and the same people were in of course. National Associations have the right to call their players as in a certain amount of days before the tournament starts and. Australia has field town said I think that I mean fielded more and Will was injured that Australia has to call them up. As interest in C.S. Is there that the Philippines actually have an cold Neil Etheridge who's a goalkeeper plays recorded since it was quite sparse and I don't know the story behind that I think for Asian football as cat is a new phenomenon because partly because the Asian Cup doesn't always take place in January depends where it's been held there and so this time the tournament being taken place and he of course you can't play in the summer time is too hard so it's taken place in January the next 1 will probably be in South Korea and 2023 and that will take place in in the European summertime so it won't mean issue then but so it's not it's really the 1st time I think you know I'm quite well known the Asian players who you know being called up the middle of the season of course Tottenham have some. Because of the arrangement that they let him go to the Asian Games last August when his military exemption he's missed the 1st 2 games of the tournament with Korea and it will fly out I think the China game at the final group game is just the way it is not think of him as a close Messiah and more and more Asian players hopefully in these a comb you know. The international demands are on specially designing Japanese and Korean Chinese players because not only for the tournament but also for the home games of friendlies in the qualifiers it's a little punishing trip back to Europe and to East Asian Ruthie's tall and cut you some in Manchester United but that's just where it is OK That's the way it is it is what it is let's change I guess from a Asia over to South America and Argentina in particular the same question comes from in Bookham in sorry he says has there been a reckoning in Argentina or South America or about the Cline in quality of the regions teams since river plate's defeat in the World Club Cup if that face I guess they did obviously enter the World Cup of course. Yeah and that that the South American champions always go go to the semifinals of the Club World Cup Unfortunately the tournament has just become a an annual annual drip drip drip torture and annual embarrassing show of the lack of relevance at the highest level of club football in South America and it hurts me like mad to say that because that's how my my living. At losing to. You know how to get a great tournament the local team from from the Arab Emirates but in their 1st going they were 3 nil down so well it's a new kind of semi pro team from from New Zealand and River Plate managed to lose to them on penalties or many in the final. At a couple opportunities in Real Madrid early but Real Madrid beat them for one and had brown Madrid needed to score 20 they would have scored 20. You know and this was a side that held its own against against River Plate and won on a penalty shoot out there's a couple of denial tactics used Remember that River Plate won the place in the Club World Cup as a result of beating their historic rivals Baka to news in the final of a limited or is a very controversial one you have a limited or is there any it up with a 2nd leg being played in Madrid now that's the biggest high stakes game in the history of one of the great rivalries in world football so. The fullback position really is the one that really mattered. Was beating back a genius are can go along with that because the historical importance of river guides Baka is not just local bragging rights it's also a quest for excellence and when the winners cannot overcome our I mean you can no longer call the that the pursuit of excellence and it's unfortunate it hurts me very badly but these days the champions of South America it's not. Only that they are there so far from the champions of Europe who of course can sign the best South American players but they're also they no longer have an advantage over the champions of other continents. So that the other fallback position you've got you would remember that this is the 1st time that a team from Argentina failed to qualify for the final of the Club World Cup so far this is a one off game and just one game we shouldn't read too much into it again I think that's false maybe the 1st time that it's happened to a team from Argentina but it's now happened 4 times since since the Club World Cup was inaugurated in this format in 2005 and 2 in the last 3 years and ever since 2005 the semifinal where the South Americans play team a champion from another continent the semifinal has never not once has he been an easy guy it has always been easy going for European champions European champions have always breezed through to semi final it's never been an easy game for for the the winners of the copper limited audience so although the River Plate when they went home they had a huge celebration based on the fact that they'd beaten Baka juniors for me it's hollowed out it loses some of its gloss because what once was a game that meant if you won it you were excellent no longer means that I'm very worried about club football in South America it's falling further and further behind and more and more places are emerging to bite talent. Pretty much seen as Gonzalo Martinez who played so well for River Plate in the final and scored a couple of wonderful goals last Saturday against Russia and has also missed a vital penalty Ensoul I mean he's going to the United States to Major League Soccer lines United So that's another place that taking players away so that the quality is going down I think in tactical terms also. South American football. Is club football not national team football club football is behind that he's behind the curve these I think a very very worrying moment Suncorp up in South America continues to have very very deep cultural roots it's hugely important it's magnificently supported in spite of everything it's very very important and it continues to produce great players and however we are losing those great players and have a younger a huge and really the bulk of even the best teams club football is made up now of promising youngsters on their way to Europe grizzled veterans coming back from Europe and the people in between are not considered not considered good enough to go and that's not good and it's happened so quickly you only have to go back 20 years when 20 years ago the champions of South America are on the sign level as a Champions of Europe officially certainly aren't anymore indeed now time for another caller thanks for that we're going to speak to Wes in Singapore as very large busy you very well have a moment of 28 seem to tell us about. I don't really know I was. Always a phone call qualifies for ear television. I like to ask Charlie a question. It's not only give audiotapes or a lot of off at all your wife. Is the ages. Of a lot of it is a very. Very light as it is a coach. Really is very very. Right well yes me now as you mention Barry White was the coach of Hong Kong for a short time before leaving to go for Japan I think you know I mean as she said also he qualified Hong Kong for the East Asian Cup which is kind of a biennial torment with South Korea China and Japan. Is a fine achievements and I'm covered with Gary White leaving was he kind of a dream job came a bell of a team out that was the issue that you know hung Kong national team was a step up from where he'd been in Taiwan but again the potential is limited in Hong Kong that as you kind of touched upon a mean that maybe he if he stayed longer or if you'd been in place June publication for the Asian Cup house unconquerable qualify because they were not far off in what in what was not an easy group. But the limited population and the playing pool is always going to be a problem for homecoming I think we do with the Federation PAP's I don't know the details of what happened they got a white leaving for for Japan but I do know that he's one wanted to work in Japan and he sees it as the leading football nation in Asia and perhaps it was well there that could be a way into coaching in Europe but I think how come he was only there for a short time fortunately but just couldn't compete with that with the pool Tokyo I think going forward one can of course has issues because like Singapore where you are on notice this is not the clubs the you know the other playing pool and I think that there's always the issue of China how closely does Hong Kong the ice up with China in football sense because and all the F.A.'s free slee independent and wants accounts happy him to the Chinese market as much as possible or without any support in so much of the story isn't over Hong Kong national team but it's tricky for them but I think if they can keep their why things because the call of Tokyo Verde was just too big. OK Wes is our answer your question and a follow up yes I thought I was more of what you already list so close to getting well it. Isn't easy getting to solve. Or challenge there well I think the challenge is big one that in Tokyo is historically a big team as well so if you can take them back into the generally and have have have success in the top tier it will do is a perception no real winners and then that should open a door for you know some really really big jobs hopefully he's created has been a gradual steps all the time and I think now he's where he wants to be where he can really prove where he can do. And talk to a chemical bikes that tunnel vision and will really see what what happens. OK Wes thanks so much for your call We're coming up to new as well 6 or 7 minutes away from the news so you you've got some John to tell me a little bit about this because well firstly this e-mail reads Hello guys from Brisbane Australia beer oclock it there are any spelling mistakes in this email which makes me think you haven't had quite enough just yet but I don't want to encourage you to much it's just a question to John about the A league expansion teams because of the south west Sydney and east Melbourne whether he thinks they're a good choice as opposed to the likes of South Melbourne a historically famous team or camber who also had very strong bids and extremely unlucky in many people's eyes here says Tom So what do you think of that right well yes so the elite didn't just train leaders started in 2005 is still given by the Australian F.A. . And they had 10 teams and then looking to expand to 12 part because I think. The tournament has the league has done very well but you have stagnated a little bit I think all the years in you know 10 teams or 9 or 10 teams as it has been is not enough you need more and the issue is always been what is expanding into is trying to expand its brand before it how the team. Of the Gold Coast in Queensland. That didn't last too long and there's another one in Townsville North Queensland with Robbie Fowler plant there for a while again that doesn't exist that doesn't exist now in the top tier So I think there's a loss of business in the F.A. About how to go by standing and I think having been adding another Sydney team there's already 2 and under the Melbourne team there's only 2 crores work is a bit of a safe choice in that your you're into the 2 biggest markets it's a big city is. We know with all sporting institution I think that they see the. Said choices I think Tampa is a little bit unlucky because I spent some time there and the last Asian Cup in 2015 and there's definitely people to talk to we wanted to have an elite team in the city didn't have one like football and the games that took place in Canberra and were well supported and I think it's a shame that competent didn't get an up I'm sure. If these 2 teams take off and do well then they should be more teams to come in in the coming years I think is a safe choice by Nancy Lee I think I'm a bit cautious but hopefully it will work out because his fingers burned by going into new cars that come to the fore. And so I'm also asked from Bruce but he just wondered about your thoughts on Australia's chances with a new coach in great Arnold or who in your opinion are the top favorites to win I say he means the Asia Cup where you trust really are the champions and even though Graeme on old is the new coach the 2nd time in charge of the Socceroos who's in charge of the tooth 2007 nation Cup when they didn't do very well since and he's developed his career quite well Australia missing someplace to injury so injury issues I think that's going to be a problem for them I think Japan probably the favorites. You know got a new coach and got some good young players coming through you know coming off a good World Cup as well they've got quite South Korea haven't won it since 1960. And this time around in good form but again also missed a couple players through injury I think if you look past apparent South Korea Iran probably they were as well they got colors close in charge probably his last time in charge Iran has been there 7 or 8 years now it looks nothing more than to go out with him the Asian Cup I think Iran might well be that into beats OK should be an eventful tournament we get to the news Tim I've got one for you a quick text it says if you've got anything further to add Well I'll tell you the region the city and then maybe you can guess who this question is going to be about it comes to us from Graham in however good Any guesses Yorkshire none none at all must not at all be also there there you go if you got anything further to add about Marcello Bielsa who is rapidly assuming messianic status in West Yorkshire found him to previous insight made me sound like a proper amongst the other Leeds fans. Big test comes from mid February onwards because. And his influence goes far far beyond the titles that he's won. Is influenced so many coaches. But in terms of the titles that he has won it was all when Argentina was playing a short league system you know the side only meeting once the 19 rounds and there is previously an incursion into European football writer it's a high intensity method of play and he burned his side out that well before the end of the season so you know with with Bilbao and with Masai. By March April time they're really dragging weary carcasses around the field now the championship as we're seeing with Leeds it's you know it's a real struggle and I'm delighted it's going so well and what my favor image was from the from the last game when they're you know they turned it around right at the end they scored and they're celebrating and you know you see B. Also what are those mean single strides of is easy getting them to get back you know stop celebrate and get back to the center circle that's Glasby also a class all over so I'm really really hoping it's going to work the way that it's worked so far. The but the big test will come from mid February onwards how much gas the league Lilly's plays still have been in the tank going into the business end of the season and then come the end of the season we can convene again and we can pass as a definitive period on the butt search so far that I can look great you can't quite get it on T.V. The post might just losing tim there before we get the news though John I was just going to come to you and from Yorkshire Well Doncaster is that exactly where you're from but what do you make of the possibility of Leeds returning to the Premier League. Myself I'm not from New York's I'm from Blackburn unfortunately didn't seem that loose even end of the leads led to speak to even last minute yeah I think the course leads a huge team it was fantastic to see the interim lead with the B.O.C. In charge and now a lead leads or 2 before a championship we should be able to talk to you and I think hopefully surely they can do it and be real smartish with such an exciting coach on the sidelines as well OK On that note John and hopefully we'll have Tim back in just a moment let's pause for briefer for reflection on the news from Kent McGrath. On digital B.B.C. Sounds Slosberg come on this is B.B.C. After guiding the team to the semifinals of the World Cup the tournament top scorer Harry Kane gets an M.B.A. And the Tour de France winner Grant Samas also gets awarded an O.B.E. . Yet in clubs as there's no danger of them getting carried away by their 6 point lead at the top of the Premier League table they play Arsenal at the Elater the only thing what's different to last year is that all the old situation is better than present last year we are not even qualified for the Champs League yet so that means we have to we'll be new to to to play football but we like to do and try to get results following that is the big match against Manchester City on Thursday which will be able to hit on 5 life there's no arrest warrant out for Sheffield Wednesday Fernando foresty area after he didn't turn up a course the 28 year old striker was GZ on to charges of using threatening words and behavior and racially aggravated harassment while Barry fan who slapped Grimsby Town player Charles then a McGlade injuring a match in September has been banned from games for 3 years the 2 year old staff on campus pleaded guilty to assaulting the striker when he slid off the pitch following its hackle Northampton shocks Premiership leaders Exeter as they climbed to 4th in the table with a battling 3128 bonus point when former England fly half pulled Grayson says Exeter will be disappointed at dropping the points their hard headed rock backs are these days and they'll know the value of 3 points on the road to go on a stage in the quarter so it once was but there have been proving play when teams will start to think that they're going to come here they're going to be up against that so I still will be they will be full of the joys of Christmas but to push is very valuable to them on the pro 14 conic beat 20 want 12 Andy Murray says he still has some pain in his hip but is in a better place. In the build up to January's Australian Open than last year so should we be worried by his comments his tennis commentator David Graf of the doubt says I always play I that's just what you or you have to do when you get to a certain age we won't know until he plays that up and I don't know that that's really based on those comments I think he's somebody who always sort of plays down how well he sleeping and how badly he's P.D. Don't cut it you can take you can sext 85058 suite at B.B.C. 5 Live or call us 808-590-9693 I'll start with a moment of the year Kiran says as an Internet fan a season ticket holder based in London the favorite moment has to be the Chinos late goal versus last year in the last Serry a match of the 2800 season to win 32 in clinch the final Champions League spot for into Ivan last year a great moment for him as. However let's talk about something more serious for a moment because in so in the middle of something really serious in Syria Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti saying that his team asked 3 times for their match against Inter Milan to be suspended because of alleged racist chanting that before a last minute goal gave a victory in their last match guys what do you think about how the football authorities are responding to incidents like this it's been prevalent of course we've seen it previously in Italian football but other incidents like that in your regions that how they dealt with matches immediately suspended clubs subsequently fined or are they banned should these rules be changed him or start with the well I think we have to remember here that people often talk about Rice's I mean football it's racism in society which is manifesting itself through football but also Football is a is a terrific forum to fight this to draw a line and to say this type of behavior is not acceptable and won't be tolerated. Racism is not an abstract. I think with the history of racism here is different from the history of racism in Europe. Here it's mainly the legacy of slavery whereas in Europe it's totally tied up with immigration and they seem to me looking from the other side of the Atlantic I'm very worried about the direction that Europe is taking which means that there will be I fear more of these incidents taking place and it is up to football to become the battleground to draw a line and say this this is it is is not acceptable so I'm not sure if if and I know some people talk about taking points away. On one level I don't I don't like that may well may well be wrong I think we have to listen to those who are involved in the anti racism fight and work out what and take their opinion into account what do they think is the best thing to do to use football as a forum to demonstrate the unacceptability of all of this type of behavior that you know if we don't if we don't take points for example say we don't and it continues you know the financial elements of the far end you know these clubs are extremely wealthy many of them and the fines usually are you know that you know just thousands of euros yet the fines the fines at the rise are exactly why that's never worked and that the behind closed doors thing is clearly a massive step forward over and above fines which which would now it's not like that the money in the case of the fines the money's not coming out the pockets of of those who've who perpetrated the Rices of you know you wonder whether how much that achieves apart from perhaps getting the clubs on board and saying well you should be taking response of some responsibility for the actions of your supporters but clearly the fines is is insufficient playing behind closed doors depriving people of the plot depriving those who perpetrated the racism of the possibility of going to the stadium and following your team clearly that that that that is likely to to achieve more. John what do you make of it. Well I think as he mentioned I think it's very tricky situation and. When we're watching football in black in the eighty's it was very common to hear. Racism in the stadium much less so these days and I think it's become accepted by most fans and a person that perhaps the punishment when it comes to reflect a beast is the principle of the club then. It's going to Boston the fans of the club you know how angry annoyed so if used to start something that somebody does say something racist chance Rex's addresses things they hope that fellow fans will quickly turn around stamp it out but you know a shooting again and he said this is very different situation to your opening. And again it's hard to generalize because you got so many different comes and cultures and languages and situations it don't really get these kind of high profile into them I'm not saying don't happen but it's not what we ported. Long imported players tend to be you know from. Look to hit lots of Europeans South Americans are brought in a museum bigger money than local players gets so you don't really have I think it's not react reste authorities have to deal with these things so it's not much of a person here talk but I think. Asia does get you see a lot of the reporting on the edge media about what happens in these situations in Europe the rain Sterling situation when City play Chelsea was also very well reported and it will be very interesting to see if something similar happens to an action player playing you will what what the media will make of it over here and sewage that will probably happen but as yet it's not really an issue that's the central football in Asia as it is in Europe. OK guys we move on to something I guess more positive for our final 20 minutes plenty of e-mails and texts coming in interesting one for 2 we mentioned him a little bit earlier do you think that Neymar has lost his edge moving to Paris and do you think he could be back at it if he moved to the Premier League or maybe at Real Madrid What do you think I don't even the motor Premier League Real Madrid is I'm sure more a possibility I know Spanish Piper's they've got to they've got to fill a paper every day no that's not easy so you know there's a story a day about Neymar maybe going there the big question of whether he's lost his edge at Paris Angela I think the answer starts to be supplied and I was going against Manchester United because on really under the French league is clearly beneath him and it's almost like the season starts in March when that when you get to the knockout stages and this time last year he only played the 1st knockout game rental would he play very very badly should've been sent off really in that game of many Then he picked up his injury before the before the other the 2nd leg and we didn't see him again and till just before the World Cup So that question was really left dangling the question returns for these games against Manchester United but if I was in his position I wouldn't want to stay forever parasangs amount only specially now as we pay the whole project of having the team built around him and him being the big star is also a little bit under threat if if I was in his shoes I would hate the idea of a move to Real Madrid would be very tempting. OK one for you John this comes from Akka Peachey in Tokyo Can I ask how much of the money that national associations make from faith. So how much does each country plow back into the development of the game and young players take Ireland as an example the lack of investment I could beat she says is part of the reason the national team is now weak and is one of the reasons of the for the rise in popularity of rugby Do you see any lack of investment or maybe extra investment from teams in Asia where yes it's patchy adding a bass would be that's the best way to describe it you have very well been federations like you know the J.V. And South Korea and Iran Strangely it would be much more professional and well funded consumer like Pakistan which is a federation which has received plenty of money from fee for over the years but not all that seems to be through to the place you want to cause to be and so it really really does depend on the country expects in such a very continent Yes you get some countries who don't do almost nothing about you they see place right now much as mentioned before Vietnam and Thailand countries that have started to invest in new developments and so it is. Trying to professionalize all aspects of the game to see the benefits quite quickly because you know if you can start developing decent players you can climb in hierarchies quite quite rapidly and actual decent players but yes if VERY VERY VERY the best we quite well and the worst on those all. You know her email of about Qatar and some of the stuff we're talking out about. This is every country has to start somewhere when it comes to producing quality football is China Russia U.A.E. Saudi Arabia all currently nurturing and developing their young talents to be top quality players they have the money and the resources to go far in developing those at the grassroots level they don't have to rely on foreign money unlike the Premier League clubs I reckon in 20 years time this is an enormous Texas I reckon in 20 years time those countries can surprise us all but only time will tell what do you make of some of those countries in Asia in particular and improvement you think they can make over the next let's say 2 decades. Well the potentially is massive I mean we've seen. In China the Chinese leak in just a short space of time from just this decade lots of money was spent and standards in the Chinese legal certainly risen quite quickly. Of course that takes time to feed through to the national team the Chinese national team. Hasn't been performing quite as well but money makes a big difference of course and if you go to the tower. Actually said very rich country and facilities it has or are fantastic in that mention the Aspire academy up. In the city and huge and they get your own place and all over the world and trained him to impressive though ability and you know and I think now he's starting season as players play for National Team me if you will who is a concern like a tiger has a very very small population base how far it can go but certainly plays being if you apply it up to a place like India you can in India again this does more money come into the game in his Super League but I want to start in on a potential Is it really is massive and a lot of it does depend on as mentioned your development facilities game people actually play the game and we talked on the show before and in a place like China I mean people always said about China you got 1400000000 people it can't be that hard to find 11 world class players but the problem China's always had is that people don't play football so much you walk around the country in the cities you don't see people playing football and I think that's that's got to be the real change I think in all over the place I've been to I've been to the tightly 3 times I've never seen people playing football history I simply bring cricket because lots of Indian South Asian immigrants who can work as though but you don't see people playing football in the streets and I think they're not something hopeful that will change over time. See what else just kind of sorry could kind of hideout hijack for me because this question always fascinated me of never managed to to have a chat with John about this. Asia has so many countries in it from a from a lot from Blackburn it's such an alien culture as well how long did it take you until you you thought you had a grip on Asian Football. Well as a school question I don't know really I think I started out in South Korea and kind of radiated out from that scene my natural thing to do. But it takes a long time I think and a lot of travel I think as well going to certain some parts of I think if you haven't been to China. Just walked around and you know it's very difficult to talk about Chinese football tolling said the West as you guys let's you know Saudi Arabia and Qatar in U.A.E. I can very different cultures based on its use I think and a source of some parts a constant that you know I don't know very well and that I've been living out here for 20 years when I travel quite often to go to the countries birds still in new things every day trampoline is much you can watch much of football but just get out there as much as possible and think that and that's it that's the best way but it does take a long time. I want to take you to him in South America. Well I've got I've got fewer countries and also it's not such and I live in culture and. The key year for me looking back on it I think really was 2001 when I moved here in 94. 2001 by the end of 2001 I'd seen every game in the World Cup qualifiers you know so every game that the 10 countries had played in the World Cup qualifiers the World Cup in 2000 and so and there are a lot of travelling as well a lot of 2001. Went to lots of places for the 1st time I was in Uruguay for to watch them beat Brazil in the World Cup qualifiers I spent a month in Colombia for a copper America I spent quite a lot time in Paraguayan the previous 2 years I was in Argentina for the Argentina Brazil World Cup game I was in Ecuador on the pitch when Ecuador qualified for the World Cup for the 1st time towards the end of 2001 and I was in Europe why again for their play off against Australia where they booked the final place in 2002 World Cup So by that time I'd seen enough games I'd seen lots and lots of club games as well are putting the hard yards and I've done the travelling and so. Yeah I think a look back on and in 2001 is the year where kind of things fell fell into place but I think John's task is some much harder because you know the continent is so vast so many different countries and it's so different from our own I think that's one of the interesting things that we heard from Jack earlier talking about the M.L.S. And football and football coach are so important in different parts of the world I look at the M.L.S. I look at need team for example like into Miami you know that's the team that David beckons associated with basically coining you know what since I'm a land name and wondering whether they will forward a coach or trying to I guess merge the 2 sides of sport in America which is essentially franchise in commercial business along with. In other parts of the world is hundreds of you at least you know 100 plus years of football teams with history and tradition and whether they can sell to football fans with particularly for example Miami where people are supported teams in South America for many many years all teams in Europe and in Spain for example many many years you know maybe Asia is an example of a new Obviously no no a near is new but a new football coach of being established and maybe that can be I guess an example to leagues like the M.L.S. What do you think Joe. Yeah I think I mean just depending on where you are but you see Australia maybe for example yeah us really will be having as we mentioned the course to say samples of the U.S. And it's out of the world because the competitive marketplace and are on a different sports and histories as are some similarities but really in Japan we see in north the jail ego started in 1903 and there's only 25 years old. That the obviously me there was practically Curiously we started in $93.00. Of them so you see. How Things happen very quickly and closer to still trying to build identity has been some countries do quite well at Japan where he gets involved in local community is really. And that really has benefits in but in places like Korea could someone tell not quite so much and China as well there's always different parts or ways to kind of develop and modernize and I think certainly the Asian point if you Japan needs a way in the center of the leagues in the organization and the infrastructure and you see now in places like Southeast Asia just trying to follow the Japanese model and maybe which might be the way forward for them as well so and also you what you have now they didn't maybe 2030 years ago is much more greater awareness of the world of football around as well we're doing on the internet and T.V. Which makes my job easier thing as the same time but there's a lot of people watch a lot of you get in football and they study more about the game and there's more influence from the oil side as well so I think good ideas travel well and I think certainly Japan and China are trying to follow the Japanese way as world with Ukrainian players to play and go communities involved in the local clubs. OK John thanks for that. Drawing to a close age but there are a couple of questions we go in Brazil left on the table same question about football is coming from Philip in North skim it's about style of football he says back in its arms there were peril a there was. That whole style of football he's his question is really what has changed in Brazil style of football aside from the pay since they are. They they got very very they were very shaken by what happened against Holland in the 74 World Cup where Holland on in the course of that competition Holland basically rendered South American football obsolete they brushed aside you're a guy you're going to have the ball for any one of the 90 minutes. Holland be Argentina 4 nil and then in a semifinal that Europe will beat Brazil 2 nil and Brazil will or will reigning champions and it was a it was entirely new threats on were when people talk about the total football of Holland in 74 they think about the exchange of positions and so on but what really struck Brazilians was the way the whole impressed they've never seen this before. And if you watch back in 1970 the midfield Maestro was Justin and the time that he had on the ball the time to decide what he was going to do with the ball was was amazing and suddenly you know back in 4 years later you get half a hole and charging straight at you so then Brazil became absolutely obsessed with the physical development of the guy and they decided that a possession based form of football could no longer thrive and they were confirmed in this in their own minds when their very attractive side didn't win in fact didn't reach the semifinals in 1900 so so what they look to do then was to bulk up . And not play possession based football instead everything was going to be done on the counter-attack so quick breaks down the flanks and that was the basic template that the they then took in there they became a very big physical side that didn't look to play possession by Sky and I remember 2005 the very time when there are we've seen Messi for the 1st time you know Messi was half as high as everyone else and that was just running rings around Brazil then there were saying their official position that right from the starts of. There you develop a process one of the things that was most important to them was size by one seed physically big players and so when when when Guardiola came along with Barcelona with shoving Iniesta it caught Brazil it's hopefully on the hop because the Brazil are decided that that which simply wasn't possible no you couldn't have little guys no possession by Sky Obviously no one told while it was impossible because this side went and did it anyway and really Brazilian football has yet to recover fully from back from that shock it still is still chasing its tail a little bit and if you look at domestic football there is a possibility perhaps next year of 2 or 3 more possession by sides but really it's all counter-attack and it's quite hard to watch you know and it's especially if you have in your mind the stereotypical image of Brazilian football as being this very romantic going there are still wonderful individual players produced but collectively I think that's changed a little bit with the national team since the current coach took over Cheech in 2016 there has been an attempt to get bring the lines of the team closer together and to pass the ball and I think when they really fire together they are they are terrific but they're still behind the vanguard of what happens in the best level of club football in Europe OK Before we go just a few minutes left let me let me ask you both Jordan what is the thing you want to see in 2019 Do you have a premonition is there thing are going to start doing or stop doing around football in $29.00 thing. On a personal level nothing special I think I hope the Asian Cup kicks off the year very well in January but good season high possible ball and some new stars made I think from an Asian level. More belief in Asia result would be nice I think there's always a little bit too much looking. To overseas and to Europe for perms a bit more believe values to show a bit more love to Asian football rather than watch English football or Spanish football be adding it for me just carry on and hopefully see some great football and maybe even make it South America for the Kokomo that would be fantastic Atonement is possible but a lot of the. Table about you. Well but obviously my and my big hope for the year is the possibility of line out the red carpet for Johnny Depp so that I very much watch consarn Japan in the event that the 29 copper America $21.00 think up America very much looking forward to that it is mine Lee for the vast majority of teams it is a warm up so intimate for the next set of World Cup qualifiers so most teams will use it as a laboratory. For Brazil it's different because Brazil are at home and their recent record in tournament is so poor so the pressure is really really on the macaques knows if they don't win he's probably get used pay 45 it's you know he's probably looking for a job so that the pressure is really really on some looking forward to that I'm looking forward very much to be on the 20 championships as starting in just under 3 weeks because it's a gold mine of of young talent and I'm looking forward to the greatest thing about what I do is that the chance so it's like going to the cinema and seeing the trailers getting a sneak preview of the trailers you know there's a few people who are all have the privilege to watch this year who at the moment are not even household names in their own home but you know let's fast forward 2 or 3 years and they will be famous all over the globe so the chance to watch him 1st that is absolutely priceless so that's what I hope to be enjoying over the next 12 months indeed he did tell us to watch out for Venezuela's youngsters as well you're right about that when you. Yeah Venezuela is the one seed from South America who have never made it to a World Cup But the under 20 generation lost to England in the final of the last on the 20 World Cup watch I'm gone there's some really interesting players but the pressure is on them I've never had to deal with this pressure of you're going to call qualify now that I have that pressure how do I cope with that it's going to be fascinating as well indeed it will gentlemen Tim Vickery and amazing couple of hours on the World Football phone and that's it from us of a $28.00 team in terms of the year but thanks so much for staying with us listening contributing with all your emails texts and calls playing to look forward to in the footballing world in 2019 or more from Up All Night as well one more hour to go coming off you shortly.
