And Harry get says inch they've got a special dedicated Weather Service this morning along with Evans is there for us was the picture one. Morning Juanito Well essentially what we have is as we were already here Desson people getting in touch already saying that you know they've seen a fair bit of snow we are expecting through the snow today so if you are waking up and you looking outside and you see what appears to be a dusting well make the most of it for now because I do think that most of us will see you know further snow throughout the day on high ground on the North York Moors for example we could actually see between 15 and 20 centimeters these are accumulations of snow over the next say 12 hours to lower levels just because of the direction of where this is coming from you know we're talking about the beast from the east you're the cold Siberian easterly winds we are expecting for the snow to be falling to lower levels here we could see 5 centimeters maybe even 10 centimeters locally but of course you know the gritters have been out roads have been cleared quite well so for many of us you know fingers crossed it's not going to cause too much trouble disruption this morning at least that said the amber warning which is affecting a large part of North Yorkshire remains in force rather morning do expect further snow stay tuned to the latest forecast and do take care on roads and pavements as well we're not going to see any snow about 3 Juanita's or the snow is going to fall and then we will just see further accumulations today and over the next couple of days but we'll keep you posted a line thank you very much more from him a bit later and Lisa Gallagher will be here with a full update before 8 o'clock. Radio York choose day the 27th of. We are on snow watch for you this morning the Met Office has issued an amber weather warnings as snow snow showers will be frequent heavy and prolonged with 5 to 10 centimeters of snow expected and as much as 20 centimeters over higher ground what is the weather like where you are you are our eyes in is on this this morning and hoteliers Simon cotton has made it into this year thank her learner's. The snow and we look into the papers with me moving. 7 minutes past 7 It's a wintry pick picture across North Yorkshire this morning anywhere between an inch and 4 inches of snow depending on where you live as I said the Met Office has an amber weather warning in force this warning covers pretty much the whole of North Yorkshire heavy and frequent snow showers are expected with a tween $5.10 centimeters that's $2.00 to $4.00 inches of snow in places over higher ground possibly between 15 and 20 centimeters the biggest problem so far is on the a 19 in the north of the county it is closed all the details in a minute with David James in our next travel bulletin on Twitter at Stamford Bridge in bloom has tweeted a picture of their garden they reckon about an inch of snow in Stamford Bridge and looking at the cameras we have access to there is snow over higher ground the Dales and the movies some bank looks like a route that you would want to avoid Well let's go live to our reporter Mike Kemp who's in Scarborough morning Mike where are you yes I'm on the west here so looking out over the south across the bar and along the cliffs which are covered in the. Different colors of 4 whites different aspects of white it's almost christmas like . And there's a gathering of seagulls on the beach as the tide is out that the sea is got its slate grey look and behind me a lorry has pulled up in that within the last 15 minutes or so it came from North Shields on Tyneside driver said it took him an hour to get out of the North Shields because the bank there they had troubles on the a 19 coming down but he says the snow isn't as bad down here is further north but listen I now hear. That when I look up into the sky it's a bit. Dark grey in this cloud as I drove up there 64 pretty ominous it's beginning to see more here the a 64 though clear traffic was running quite smoothly on it no problems at all really and but I would say to some drivers to show a bit of patience place because as I was coming up the a 641 driver decided to overtake coming the other way on the opposite side of the carriageway close so I would say that to be patient with other drivers on a day like today as everyone gets used to the can drive in conditions and how bad is it expected to be my well you know we were especially on track to I think 10 centimeters of snow in old money there's about 4 inches maybe on the high ground it could be more than that to maybe double that but according to last yesterday afternoon that the Met Office had the and the warning for for North Yorkshire running from 7 runs weekday sort of diagonally past your current through tad cash opening around that way up to yesterday afternoon late yesterday afternoon early evening that sort of blew into as you say to include much of North Yorkshire Lincolnshire was pushed out of it and other parts of Yorkshire included more that Amber warning basically means it's a sort of the likelihood of travel delays on the road to some stranded vehicles and passengers as well as delays or cancellations to rail or air travel some rural communities could be cut off power cuts may also not the services such as mobile phones may be impacted in short it's described as a potential risk to life and property and that Amber warning does remain in place until 11 the. You to an accident involving a tractor and a trailer it's now will reopen soul and to reopen on the air $900.00 South Korea phone which is called comp of revenue diverted off through Yarmouth is now going to miles an hour down the 167 south towards north Alison very very heavy and very slow there but the good news is like you said in $1000.00 has reopened South Korea thought minor routes seem to be fairly dodgy in places midriff seem to be coping quite nicely a one m. $5155.00 Scotch corner he says May he complete liar out of himself the outside lane there though completely solid with snow or so of traffic down to single file as a result of snow on the outside lane only a $64.00 you'll find it busy as he heading from Tadcaster across towards the a one everything else thankfully seems to be fairing reasonably well we'll take a glance at the train see there is some disruption on the on the rails what we've got from New York well actually from New York nothing of any of any real severity apart from the a 20 want to London Kings Cross which is being cancelled from Harry get you've got a slight delay while an unspecified period in the world it's like could be huge and specified delay on the 8 or 6 from Harry gets a late nothing of any north from Selby whatsoever a cancellation of the 753 from north into London King's Cross which was due to call a Thursday to a want but apart from that everything seems to be fine if you do spot anything give us a ring or double 301-2339 Thank you David on the buses no problems so far in your 1st buses say no snowmageddon in New York so far all services are running at the moment we'll let you know if that changes clothesline and trans down say all their service is so far running leaving the depo on time. From 2 hour. From 9 Jonathan Cowan down to Mississippi. Radio we'll. Have a look inside the papers this morning Simon cotton is here how to. And how you get base h.r.h. Hotel group from morning to you what do you say good morning journey to Mama Mia Mama Mia germinated. Well I'm just thinking this morning is waking up and thinking did you go to work you know to eat and this gets kids to school and the whole sort of weather thing like this one thing that we kind of there's a saying that you always hear the show must go on well with Mama Mia the show can't mustn't go on actually last night they shut the show which we don't really in this country we don't usually shock shows you do believe in that the show must go on and they say this is a no no nothing to do with snow but they've got a flu bug outbreak and there's so many of the lead performers and other stuff have gone down with the there was just not enough people to put the show on so they've shut it so if you've got tickets to go to London's Novello theaters and when you Mama Mia this week you might want to ring up and check if they're still valid but you know this thing is relentless it doesn't go away it lingers in the background and then it comes back again for his I can't stand this one of the stories saying they don't know how long it's going to go on of course the one liners are in there and they're saying the sources of the production team are saying that they really need this team to be Super Troopers and get off their sick beds because every day it's costing them money money money. I love it this is a really. Somebody who's not lying in bed is a retired builder down in. Devon story comes the road is long term which is an interesting name is it lives in Devon but he's I like this attitude of getting you know rather moaning about things he's filling in he says he's a retired builder and he's fixed 200 potholes so course it's one of those things again where in the winter by next week we're going to probably have more potholes because it's all about the ice in the snow you can see into the roads and it breaks them up as we often you know moan about it always the counts on this don't know well the moaning about. Blessin read $75.00 now he just goes out each morning and. So is anybody retired builders in Yorkshire you know if we have a few potholes filled if you want to go and fill a few and that will be really wonderful That's very kind of him that's lovely You can come up here and then. Holiday maybe I can put it up in one of our hotel. Room for one will maul this one a bit fence about ready it's in the Telegraph and on page 5 and it's the headline is locally sourced maybe a lie says an f u head. Now is the national farming Union and they've just elected a new president cold Minette butters which I thought was an interesting one. But I just was more slightly responsible she said saying you know pubs and restaurants be careful going out there that lots of people use this locally sourced produce. Which interesting that she's you know she's asking you know is it true but there's no substance the story is no there's no back up so it's just in a in an open space she just finished by saying I'm just asking how honest is it I mean it's a good question to ask because you just take it as read don't use it I think we all want the sort of food miles you know and you want to use nice to know that you know you're supporting your local farmers which is all fantastic and I'm all for that when Talia. But if you can come out and make a statement and he wants sports it which is fantastic of you know maybe a bit of substance from my in the story as well rather than rather than just saying I just want a holiday really yes Simon we'll leave it there for now Simon constant hotelier looking through our papers this morning he'll be back in half an hour 730. You got some advice on want to do to keep yourself safe and warm if you are coming up in a few moments time the thirst Nathan has the headlines snow and freezing temperature . As a causing some disruption this morning across North Yorkshire we know of 27 schools that have been closed journey to well over 8 hours of those in just a moment and we're told all are bus services in your careening as normal though a North Shore she County Council says its fleet of Grettir's have been out through the night in Syria a humanitarian pause in fighting has come into effect in the rebel held area of eastern go turn near Damascus the 5 hour rest by was ordered by Syrians ally Russia mother b.b.c. Has learned that Syrian women are being sexually exploited by local men delivering aid on behalf of the un and international charities problem was 1st identified 3 years ago and plans to have an elected mayor for the whole of Yorkshire will be discussed in Westminster later leaders of 18 Your she counsels have written to to raise them a her to commit to a region wide Merril election in 2020 or so after his racing as predicted at Catterick has been abandoned because of the bad weather journey. Thank you Nathan. In the city. Radio. So wintry picture across North Yorkshire this morning the Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for snow snow showers will be frequent heavy and prolonged with 5 to 10 centimeters of snow expected and as much as 20 centimeters over higher ground from what we can tell as people are waking up and getting in touch there's been between one and 4 inches of snow depending on where you live no major problems yet but we are starting to get new schools that are going to be closed details are on the way while this cold weather it is expected to last until the weekend and while young children love the snow most of us just moan about it it can be when it can have a devastating impact on older people they are particularly vulnerable to the impact of loads. Brydges here to explain more is Sally Hutchinson Chief Executive Officer story of the charity Age u.k. In more in your morning tea Sally morning why are older people particularly vulnerable in the cold weather Well a lot of people don't dash out that much and sometimes as we get older everything is much slower forests and also sometimes are they say you know your blood gets thinner and that kind of thing which is probably an old wives tale but it is generally harder to keep warm if you're not out and about and and zooming around so want to do older people need to do well I've got a little list here from some experts so really ideally they've got to help themselves to keep warm and you should in your bedroom never get below 18 degrees centigrade if that's possible. And 21 degrees centigrade for Celsius or for your living room and we've got some of meters educate York which if they give us a ring and I give you the number present we can then I see little attractive thermometers that you don't have to peer at but they just say look this isn't warm enough for us this is warm enough or whatever so that truly got in there fray so it's good to try and maintain a stable temperature if it's you worried about the Haitink it one or 2 rooms warm if you don't want to hate every room. Don't sleep with the bedroom window open because although this may be a habit of a lifetime it can actually lower your body temperature and increase the risk of infections chest infections etc. Where plenty of layers that's always a guy ride a bike and I'm out there are loads and loads of lies and it takes ages to get ready and ages to get and ready. To try and use some blankets but Rosie an ace when you're sitting down but be careful when you stand. Make sure they're clear away from you so you don't fall over them keep moving as I said trying not to sit too long and if you can have a thermos handy for hot drinks ask a carer friend to help you now we've got some heaters that we can lend out to people and educate York if the heating breaks down under Also if you're a bit worried about people knowing how well you are how you are if you know sauce know who you are and where you are and what your phone number as well get your coal check up you're Ok And you've got everything you need in sight we did a big ring around yesterday morning also trying Kate important telephone numbers handy like a plumber you might use or who you have a contract with like a contract to service your gas central heating or whatever if you have got salt handy for your parts only go out if you really have to ask a neighbor or a friend or a family member to help out shopping and if you need that sort of help and you've got nobody could educate your career and we've got people around so that there are only 3000 checklists available about making sure your heating has been serviced keep your torch handy in the case the power cut make sure you've got decent shoes decent slippers so gripping and. Think about how you could make one room very comfy for if you really do get snowed in but I think the most important thing is to know our 1st call number which is your 634-061-6340 extension 6461 so information and support. You know we can see you now lend you a hater to plug in if you do have a problem or if your house is dreadfully cold certainly thank you so much for for that advice this morning Sally Hutchinson chief officer of the charity Age u.k. Lisa Gallagher is here 2 inches where I was when I left the house this morning Lisa but it is a different picture across North Yorkshire isn't it yeah it is and that is down to the nature of showers so showers are very much hit and miss it is very difficult to sort of give an idea as to the accumulations that we're expecting for the snow because of course it depends on how many of those showers do you fall over where you live but that risk is there for all of us as we head through today at the moment we do have an amber warning in force from the Met Office that means disruption is likely because of the snow we have been hearing already this morning that there is already some disruption now the overnight snow that we had is just starting to clear away from the Dalles that is still affecting settle in holes and then the snow showers are already starting to feed back in from the North Sea So that's what we are going to see today is going to Brighton with sunny spells but frequent snow showers feeding enough the North Sea feeding all the way across North Yorkshire say we are expecting further snow to accumulate it will feel cold with temperatures struggling to rise above freezing met his warning remains in force through tonight and into tomorrow as well as they snow showers continue to feed in off the North Sea There will be heavy at times at times the merge into long spells of snow so there will be further accumulations of snow disruption remains a possibility as we head through tonight and into tomorrow as well by Thursday they'll be fewer showers around but still scattering of snow showers I think an exceptional wind chill a very windy day to come in Thursday with temperatures struggling to rise above freezing when you add in the effect of that wind it could feel as though it has layer was minus 10 now for the Titans the next high waters are this afternoon which be 1350 to scarper 14 to finally 1413 and Burlington 1428 Lisa thank you very much Lisa Gallagher will be back in and hour's time with more just quickly it's a big story actually this across the u.k. a Lot of the papers picking it up on the front page. But that's not going to stop us talking about cake oh no we do like a bit cake up here in new fields around $300.00 people turned up to our coffee in cake event we don't think our. Last are we and we're just days away from an announcement about our next event our coffee and cake events are all about getting people together having a chat making new friends and in some cases cases helping people who might otherwise be lonely is something they're also doing m.b. Down in North Yorkshire child is from the Dales care center in be down and only this morning when he Charles good morning journey into what is it that you're doing at the Dale center we have recently refurbished the whole Dell sent it used to be tales but 18 months ago we had to close it we have spent a lot of money refurbishing it paint. Doing all the carpets and all the rest of it going it really up to standard and we reopened it. Before when it was Dale's care it was. Somewhat focused towards the elderly in the community but now we've we've we're throwing the net much wider and asking anyone that's that wants a good meal that's lonely that's you know they don't see people from day to day to come along and have a lovely 2 course Mail story coffee to begin with coffee to finish delicious mail so we were where we're we're asked you know as you said before the lonely in the community to come and join us Center why isn't it important Fede to do this then it is it's well we've we've we've been trying to look after the elderly for a long time now and. We've revamped as I said but it is with my and my trustees find it very. Worthwhile and important the loneliness is getting more and more of a problem in the in the in the you know internationally really so we are doing our bit to try and alleviate that and how is it getting. Very well we started we were getting average numbers of about 24 we're now up to last we had 36 the centers open on a Tuesday and Thursday between 10 and 2. And last week we got up to 36 but we're trying to get the numbers higher and higher sense becomes self financing basically well I don't we feel like these things they they take on a life of their own we started taking cover in Selby with k. And you know we had a few people there but now we're into the hundreds and it's and it's wonderful bringing people together and making new friends when's the next event and what people need to do if they'd like to come along then well the they don't need to do anything they just can turn up the centers in the right in the middle of. The white car and the postcodes d.l. 81 our centers open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 to 2. And we have 2 extremely good members of staff there there's. Mary Exelby who does all with all the lunch delicious come down yourself. And we have our who who runs the Center for us and they're both extremely friendly and would welcome anyone that comes down Charles thank you so much does Charles not know from the Dalles care center in be Dale you're invited cordially invited to to go along open she's in Thursday's 10 till 2 for her drink in a biscuit or fresh 2 course meal as well lovely bringing people together and let's go back to the snow shower tell King a few minutes ago to max from the flask in between Scarborough and Whitby estimates 10 centimeters of snow will b.b.c. Radio my camp is in Scarborough for us this morning how's it looking there then Mike well within the last 10 minutes sort of chalk it down actually yes. That's sort of the snow that came down which was came down in quite a quite some force really for for a brief few moments and the cloud came in and I could be seeing a clothing across to the cliffs on the opposite side of the South Bay from where I am on the West Pier they all disappeared behind the cloud and then it started snowing and it's always up again so in a sort of 10 minute flurry feel like there's a patch of blue sky above me but the beach is now white from the snow that came down and. That's the story of the morning really it's been a bit sort of hit and miss it snowed about 3330 this morning it came down struggled to do a bit more of a sense had a big big floor and I think that's probably how it's going to be with this warning that's in place until 11 o'clock this morning but as I got here earlier on on the a 64 there was pretty clear actually no problems at all driving along not from sort of the York side of Malta and all the way here to Scarborough and I got here about . It seems that we've been quite well prepared haven't we obviously been giving people warnings about this this city where there has been coming up over the next few days what advice are people being given over the next few days well only travel if you have to but it's obviously not just about the driving conditions it's also about the cold it's been about minus 2 minus 3 here there isn't the wind here so you don't get that bitter chill wind chill cold that brings with it but it's all about looking after each other because the Public Health England is telling us to stay warm with homes heated to at least 18 Celsius to each warm food and move more importantly also to check on our friends neighbors and relatives especially if they're over 65 or with young children or if they have a heart or lung condition to make sure they're all Ok because this cold snap is going to last for of quite a few days you know yesterday without the snow we've got to see today with the snow but obviously and also take care. The roads as well when you're travelling travelling about I spoke to a lorry driver here who travelled down from North Shields he said it was probably worse further north than it was down here but nevertheless take it easy on the roads and only travel if you have to that's usually the advice of this time when this wintry conditions come in my camp thank you so much that c.b.c. Radio reporter my camera in Scarborough for us this morning and you know the snow isn't white here that's right while snowflakes appear Wise's they fall through the sky or as they accumulate on the ground is so full they are in fact totally clear the ice is not transparent like a sheet of glass is but rather is translucent meaning light only passes through in directly and many sides of the ice crystal it basically diffused a reflection of the whole light spectrum and making it appear white but of fact see this pointing. Good fact to take our love of stuff like that all are locked up. Like that pulley and the facts on the road and I am saying South Bend was closed at the Create on turn the thought engine of the a 6072 series actually where tractor left the carriage where that's no longer the case it's all reopened like a sick call comfort to all those who diverted off already and I was took an incredibly slow moving traffic on the Bay Road up towards great space where you join the 167 to head incredibly slowly same towards North Island 510 miles an hour due to dreadful dreadful driving conditions there very very poor driving editions as well on the 17 wanted to get to between Whitby. Again horrible over the tops on the 16 line would be to Pickering and nor major headaches if you're traveling through York at the moment coming in from the outer ring road down Clifton towards them plenty of traffic around across the hill 64 heavy through your road works but the. 40 limit still in place between the $65.00 died in the year one m. Junction $44.00. Bridge Road is a little bit busy as you heading up around water end as well through your hair a good usual slog of a very heavy on Weatherby road into water the woodlands lives very busy on the a 61 it in a through panel but above and beyond that we seem to be coping quite nicely with not a lot to tell through Scarborough and public transport kind of getting away with it it's not too bad at all what we got from York a 21 to London Kings Cross that was being cancelled That's it for now more in 15 minutes thank you David listen I must say massive thank you to everybody that's cool so far texted email tweeted letting us know about what it's like where you are you really helping people with their commute this morning b.b.c. Radio your. Look inside the paper shall we before we get the latest news some in Clawson is here what he found this time around. It's a difficult one this one it's the broken. Down south in one of the resorts talking about fake beggars in the world we live in now about fake news and what is true what isn't true about so much going on around us I think we all sort of a conscious of this you see somebody on the streets and I just thought it was quite timely in terms of the snow today and coldness and you know minus degrees at night and there are you know sadly people on the streets and it's what to do to help them but the community campaigners down in Dorset have been criticised for sort of demonizing the homeless. You know it's obviously trying to get people off the streets who are begging and taking advantage and exploiting the plight of others. And obviously clearing up the streets but it's also sort of this crossover of. Affecting those that are desperately in need. And a tough one so there's quite a big article not in a couple of papers but the mail. Covered it Page 8. Homeless an interesting read and sort of these you want questioning yourself you know you know. Something or don't you know I don't know to those. Sort of you know the use of them by buying some food by the macaw for your oven to get in the car. But tough on that son and we're going to have to leave it there I'm afraid we're getting up very close to the news you'll be back in half an hour some call to look into our papers this morning. At breakfast we're on snow watch for you this morning the Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for snow snow showers will be frequent heavy in prolonged 5 to 10 centimeters the snow expected in as much as 20 centimeters over higher ground coming up this morning we've got everything you need to know to help you cope b.b.c. Radio reporters out keeping an eye on the situation we'll be hearing from Mike Kemp in a minute and we've got our usual travel reports and extra weather forecasts and let me know what's happening where you are what is the weather like give me a cool 190-464-1641 takes.
