In Scotland every month every month through spring summer autumn and winter for 10 years a good morning to Hello good morning good morning please tell me I'm right in saying this because it seems remarkable to me but every single month here yes May July August yes yes every single month. Well mostly in the Cairngorms partly always in the care and gardens because there's no patches that lie their way through the summer right so I walk up to their patches with my skis and boots and put in as many turns as possible so when you say patches you know what we're talking area wise. Well obviously is the summer progresses they get smaller and smaller but by the time they are just about to melt they are very small not much longer than my skis. So you're actually sort of putting the ski to snow and there are a lot more kids. So where did all this come from that hill Well I kind of was very keen on downhill skiing and was introduced to ski touring which means you can go up the hills with putting skins on the bottom of your skis so I could do that after the research sat and that kind of let me see this no really much longer into the summer than I ever had thought and I became very interested in where it lay and there's a group of us that monitor the snow parties and we have done for quite a long time so I was involved in that and then because I love skiing I thought well let's just see how long we can keep this going and so it's a one for a once a month ritual as it well I ski at least once a month obviously I ski as often as possible because I love skiing so in the winter time I ski a lot more but in summer if there are patches there and the weather is nice I might go up 2 or 3 times in the month but there's a big difference from going skiing. Isn't there like you say the winter months where you've got decent snow cover and claiming all the way up that hill with your skis on your back to do to turn. Violent curse but I love being in the maintenance and you know snow is a bit like a carrot don't key to me they're folk many for just got Munro's because they want to go up and rose but if there's not snow they're not nearly so motivated so I just love being on snow so even if it's only a couple of turns it's worth it and of course in the summer you're not having tea where all the warm clothes that you do when you're skiing in the winter and the snow on these patches it's usually lovely spring snow because it's transformed over the year into that granular snow that's secure to ski on and just great fun to ski and did you set yourself a target of all of 10 years or just go on your solo lane you know it's just nobody . Ever thought of even attempting that no but well that means you can't Stolpe Helen yes sometimes it's a bit of a sort of nice share my neck because at this time of year having done there the next year the 10 year we're into November and snow usually comes in November so all being well I should be able to ski next month so that means I'm into the next year is the new it was all new holes out and then of course the challenge is in the summer months and it's been particularly challenging these last few years. Have you seen the enemy of oversea charted the pattern of snow very closely along with with friends I've you seen changes over the last 10 years in particular I would say so yes the story is not accumulated as much particularly in the last 3 years it has snowed in the winter but quite often after it's not the temperatures rocketed up so it hasn't lain for very long and accumulated So come the summer these hollows that gather the snow. Have much less and the patches have melted sooner. When we are in proper no season though where your favorite Skiing Sports I tend to ski ski Cairngorms because I live in Inverness so it's close. If there's local snow ski on the local hill ski to a local hills as well but carrying our Miss craft and nearly all my skiing there and do you ever go abroad you ever sneak away to. Never know I'm a die hard Scottish skier my husband garden he's not a skier so the thought of going abroad you know with a 10 isn't so keep it's own saw such as not very enthusiastic about that so I tend just to ski for the day and come home at night and I have skied and the other is arts and Scotland just because Cairngorm this is wonderful and it's closer attention there here so this is a top or have we had a row top or ski it yes that was the 10 years last week so I was very lucky there was just a dusting of snow below the summit Karen Garm only lasted for less than a day but I scooted up and managed to put some turns on how many turns to beget. I was able to ski about a ferret of the way down the it's called Marcus wells there is comes from the summit just below the summit down to the top of the ski area it was very soggy it was any wet and we were skiing between tufts of grass and avoid the stones. Manager per ton who joined in the studio by George you have to say is a big bruiser of a tabby cat handsome guy from Helensburgh Good morning George and his assistant ever could see that Jackie who'd had George's phone fame across the country for his many adventures Good morning Jack I'm going to address you rather George later but is Ok I. Will also go with his Roger Mugford animal psychologist of the company of animals Good morning Roger good morning to you would love to meet George in the flesh with a tree on it he is I mean I always say of a dog person but my goodness he is a handsome cat he is sneers anybody knows he's got a bit of a way of muzzling And so tell us what George gets up to oh gosh where can I start he goes daily to Tesco as he sits and he sits on the side to wait for someone to come out he goes there he goes up and down the aisles he goes and shuts the girls in the bakery he goes to the Argyle bar for a pint he goes to 11 am mass at the local chapel on a regular basis been several weeks now and he gets thrown out and he goes back in and get thrown out again he gatecrashed a wee boy Stuart's 1st birthday party and Saturday all the doors in the street are shut but he knew the one party was happening and he gets in the service bus he got on the bus to go to safari park with the Hermitage primary children at the end of June. Is a good safari park Jackie I don't know because in one day he wanted to go sailing with the young carers group and was standing outside the bus with a bunch of strangers wanting to get on. And this happens on a daily basis and people send us photographs and videos of all the things he does and it's the fact that he has no fear he goes out he squares up to dogs he has people that he regularly visit. It's as they say wait for the bus stop at the bottom of my parents' drive on the bus and hopped in the bus and they have to stop a short you haven't got a ticket you need to get. A couple of weeks ago I got the 124 train to Edinburgh from hounds were central and Scott will staff message me and said luckily we managed to get him off before the train departed but he could have been anywhere I think 32 stops all the way to Edinburgh He's clearly very well known to the tow that Jesse's got over 1100 followers now and Facebook is quite phenomenal I find it quite overwhelming how many people love George and follow him and go out on a daily basis to meet him well I mean that the great thing about that too is that they're going to look out for him so that it you know like the train staff are going to say oh it's George George you know you're going to have to get disappeared 2 weeks ago Tuesday night this is what set all this in motion completely disappeared last sighting Tuesday night massive social media campaign nothing nothing I thought maybe been hit by a car it will be very sad and then Saturday afternoon someone posts on Scotland by the roadside photograph of a cat for can point I have fires up from the last 14 miles but it would involve changing trains going about it and getting the bus who knows how we got there and through the Paris social media a very kind couple from Hounds burrow went over my mom can't leave my dad and I was away and they drove to far can point and pick him up and that was he was there very skinny no color took him to the vet vet said I don't even need to scan him I know it's George I see him regularly That's another thing he doesn't go to the vet voluntarily. What animal does I take it is microchip he is microchip so I get phoned regularly and this all started because people very kind people and hounds were thought he was a stray we're taking to the vet and I had to post up saying Please he's well loved you don't need to take him to the vet so they just sent me pictures and said. Yeah I mean Roger I mean I don't know anything about normal behavior of cats is George an unusual cat. He's unusual He's also incredibly lucky for us to have Jack you family but that you had the good sense to have a microchip which I'm sure saved him from many a potential sort of rescue charity but I just say he's wondering around the desk he's going to get my waterbottle and he's right he's not that weird at all it's just completely. Amazing and I know so he's just something that but he does sort of tell us something about cats in general so many cats owners have no idea what their pet gets up to especially at night but perhaps at any time of day do you think that your cat's just sleeping in the garden or bit under the garden shed but he's not and he is likely roaming you very much bigger territory than you would imagine and especially males but males more than females can. Patrol and sometimes defend a very large territory so and do they have a sense over where they are and where they should be returning to did they have a recall the. Compass built into their brains but so the most mammals the one mammal that seems to have lost it is a human being how many of us get lost and you know in a car. But dogs to a lesser extent the Certainly cats have a really good ability is going to swallow them pigeons but pretty good and it's all based on the same organic and complex molecule in the in the brain which is them to look for geomagnetic And also it's that way so I must be giving you need to find a way home and cats have this ability and if you think but in the wild they have to make incredible journeys just to survive so but I mean to whole point to train or to whole Paula. You know. Which is nothing I mean is that an unusual thing for. Prayer time. On a Sunday for a cat this is quite bizarrely some of these are. Just wonderful and. You know the funny scenes that Reckon you studios expect and we decide. You really really think that joint. And he is a cat with attitude and intelligence sets him apart I just hope that he survives the biggest danger which of course is the car on the road and they live next to a really busy road but people stop for him now because everyone knows him and not everyone will I know. You've tried to. Cut tail his activities by keeping indoors and I imagine he tests very loudly but he was under house arrest twice for 2 weeks for Mr various misdemeanors and it's made up so you no difference at all I just don't understand why he enjoys strangers company so much because I've found another can it's rubbish it doesn't hate people who hate strangers but George seems to actively seek out people. I meet when socially I mean I have a friend who has. Had to add 2 cats one of the cats and I thought this was very unusual so did she actually had to hold and had managed to convince the other people that you know it was a stray and genuinely the other people saw it was their cat and my friend. And I think I don't know if you were on that discussion but it turned out that wasn't uncommon not uncommon at all and people sometimes get into serious legal fisticuffs about my cat no reason on proving ownership but again it goes back to the chip register the microchip 1st in whose name is this the thing that will settle in the ship but. Not the most loyal of creatures unlike dogs unlike George I must say. He doesn't he doesn't do any of that he doesn't want fed when he goes to people sizes people put food on for many years no I just want to cuddle and say hello and then he goes off again but the nicest thing that is. I think of it in the Scottish press is his relationship with your father yes he's been a little comfort to my dad it's massively touching so forgive me. To mention and I expect he likes to sit and rest a bit while on George with him and George is more fond of him than any other family like George Prince than anyone else's need only of me yeah he's really quite aloof and a bit in the house specially with me in the kids but my dad he loves my dad and he'll come to tolerate being stroked and he'll only sit at my dad's knee. And my dad takes a lot of comfort from patting him and then the 2 of them fall asleep together and have a nice George is not George is out all the time and he just comes home to get fed he spends a lot of time in the house and my dad also enjoys asking Where's the cat Where's the cat Where's the cat so it gives him a focus and I think that's helped a lot with his dementia is that where you got George. Partly yes because my mum and dad's old cat died they were one other cat so much trouble and we said no it's really good for you because my dad I think was starting to show early signs of dementia and that was about 4 years ago but he's really gone downhill I would say the last year and it's been great for me because he remembers the cat and he can focus on the cat it gives him something to look forward to every day to see George responds obviously absolutely to him not to anyone else not to anyone else you know what I mean again there's that relationship thing that we often did I kept Roger indeed can so much more sensitive to human emotions and circumstances and I really can and again it was a complete different it was the famous cancer in Philadelphia that lived in the old people's home and reliably people would die after the cat sat on my lap within we normally don't have. Your days are numbered. That. Counts obviously read most of the animals to read. Into our bodies through sense of smell and who knows what other senses all about the mental condition in a physical condition and very much cleverer than we thought I'm sure scientists myself don't know half of it yet and. It's like George on inspiration to go on and keep working at it so where did where did George come from it came from the captain Action League office and Paisley also is a rescue Kaiser rescue cat he'd been in foster care for 2 years no one wanted him and when we phoned up I think he'd been fostered as a kitten and then he'd been brought back because he was no longer cute kitten and no one wanted him and they find these cats very hard to home because they no longer cute and they're quite hard work so we thought we'd be perfect because if no one else wanted them we'd we'd have them. Brought him home and he was a completely normal cat for the 1st 2 or 3 years and he may well be behaving like this and we've just not known about it by suspect as my dad's dementia has progressed he's maybe not getting stimulation at home he still loves being there but he's maybe going out more to get the interaction from people I I have no idea but it's only really in the last 6 months that he has. Going off on his shoulders event just as a change of behavior possibly but maybe it's just the fact that people are noticing him now but he certainly was appearing you know regularly almost on a daily basis on Facebook until I had to put up his going to he's our cat he's lovely he doesn't keep taking to the vet because now he goes back there every day on his own. Might be good investment for just. The pet tracker there will be many of them available and then all of the work or something up and well are in battle are our Facebook fans are actually putting on a push for a g.p.s. To buy a g.p.s. Tracker maybe you really need some crowdfunding I don't know how to live and how to do that but they're very keen to get a g.p.s. Tracker and then we can get a web site for him and we can see exactly where he goes because he seems to cover an enormous range of. Not just within the know few blocks he's been seen 10 or 12 blocks from his house which is probably not abnormal for a cat but you don't really expect them to go that far yeah over so many roads. So I wrote. Lots more Georges that. Call in contact reduce Scotland little and Roger my food because a lot of really clever personality proved. They all just sleep and eat so many can't see what because now because the danger roads are to be. Serious but because roads are such a killer for cats lots of cats I think half the cats in the country kept indoors and what a relatively speaking deprived life they lead but. Joy it is just a little We've gone to for example or maybe he liked it so much he went back. All Roger said thank you very much indeed I will send you a picture of George as I say he is a very handsome fellow I can hear me out in the background yeah yeah he is obviously very bored with this I see you got a call around and yes that again to indicate he's not a stray and don't take him to the vet he is. Just so I could say the vets get a bit fed up with this Jackie thank you very much for being a Georgian and for introducing as I think maybe you could just go home your separate ways you'll probably find himself probably back quite easily I can hear the tone of the microphones are picking him up but he's obviously saying right enough already. Jackie thank you very very much for having us and George thank you George for coming and thanks also to. Catch up with travel. Very morning looking to align and Aberdeenshire that in 96 it's like you saw through that old work both directions strongmen still reported across the sky but it is open to all traffic just be mindful if you are up that way at the 7 Go bridge in middle within roadworks year temperature traffic lights in place on a 7 at the gore bridge junction and miter in Edinburgh queues on Pepper Mill Road West Bend between the West but in a tree and Craigmillar Castle Road Again. Temperature right so the reason you're slowing down I'm Manisha the head and to change it that's the a 7 to 5 East by and the speed sensors are picking up delays between the slips and if you're on the m $74.00 the wreaths interchange just as you're heading north you're coming off at the rate it's. B.b.c. Radio Scott to travel thank you very much Anne-Marie Still to come this morning. 24 said we are. Living and working where you can always keep. The work you. Constant interaction that we have the World Health Organization recently recognized as a health problem again you say is that for now. It's preventable yeah I'll be speaking to the Glasgow g.p. Sighting of 2 people a day with Barr and I will be talking to her just a bit later I will also be discussing graphic violence and the new movie I. Saw last night says it was less violent than most gung ho much of it was a brilliant exposition of how a child can develop from a damaged relationship when young without adequate support from society into monstrous person without care for others the screenplay was brilliant the acting was brilliant and the message was dark and real so it was a fan but lots of people have been very critical of this joker movie think calling it irresponsible so we'll be talking about that just a bit later as well also we spoke earlier to Helen the job of a teacher who has skied in Scotland every single month for 10 years. A real hail or shut rain rain hail or shine what is the expression was it carrying your youth is a real healer showing rain rain heal or shale or shine Thanks Is that right on some work and. Dragging you into that was all my bad I have to say. Games there is anything that you did on that regular basis that absolutely religious commitment to something the. Love. Bell goes clearly dancing at least once a month. But tries to get every week good exercise and another one here go see kayaking try and have a wee paddle every weekend on the 4th but try to go to other places like North Benteke and said head if I don't go in the sea it's usually because of storms and I get withdrawal symptoms. If I don't go for we walk to the door on a Saturday morning I am very very grumpy You know imagine that oh. Tell you again. She's on the father of nearly it out of me you. Know that was your best labor going to go you naturally. How do those things as we rituals if you don't do it really kind of bugs you. I could not get working in a Saturday morning nor to call yes I know for an hour and a half every Saturday morning was that you're on the. Peace lady. Who paints if she sees it yet they start. Technique propel you forward really good work Kate but would you do that in part in Glasgow right Ok then one would have to be arraigned the trainers got different parks and then we do squats and then we do different things it's going to hit do not need some snow for Nordic skiing you know what it Clark isn't it. Is walking a skiing or who's who Ok Nordic walking or Nordic walking yeah this is walking with stakes No it's not all people let you walk it was so she tried to dress up or something. Every Saturday morning Catherine goes walking with steak Well that's a lot less. You know I'm going to get the Nordic walking around they're going to get real and. So today's conundrum you. Explain or do you want to do the fancy only Let's do the fancy you know fancy version Sansa version please my wife and I and our 4 year old son were out to dinner last week not fast food not super fancy either my son is a normal active we buy it's hard for him set to hold dinner so we let them explore the restaurant and I did notice are we just giving him the stink eye so we asked him to stop running he was pretty good about it but he day counterfit when she was carrying a tray a fit which point she supports him pretty sharply to get back to the table and said hey I felt it was completely uncalled for and she should have come spoken to us personally instead of disciplining someone else's child but do you think is it ever Ok for another adult to tell if your child room of course were pretty people what do you think folks 802951 the text is it ever Ok to discipline someone else's child Karren of you to any thoughts at all on the. Do you think. The course is yes absolutely yes absolutely Yorkie did absolutely to discipline another person to be in that which was she would have done the same thing here yeah yeah that could have ended up a coffee a ball this crockery over that child but why would you not go and see the parents like the woman says there you know if she had a problem she should have come to the parents yeah but the parent spotted it in the 1st but didn't me because because presumably the witches gave the trail the evil eye and so the children being disciplined. And also makes their peers tell them what you say I mean she actually gets time you go back to you know your mom again just keep it kind of passively I guess. There's another subset should you always discipline other people's children in the past. It does rattle people this one doesn't and I mean I think that's interesting because that's a situation where. It's a stranger and euro and a boat Where's the could also be the situation that you were with a friend I mean let's say you were having dinner with a friend and their child was just really really really being a pain in the neck would you do in that situation is going to be more awkward with a friend but I think I still could if it's good if I have a good relationship with a friend and I have sort of almost grown up with that the child has grown up with me you know you know I've known it since young then I absolutely would see something and I think yes actually probably what you're doing is point to the peanuts in fact the just not keeping the child it might say but I mean you should have a word with a parent says slightly intolerant of children full stop you know just badly badly behaved children and abate them yeah totally I have I am very intelligent and I think if anyone told my children off I would be upset upset that I hadn't noticed it 1st Ok so you wouldn't be the person for doing a new you know I think there was my Yeah yeah yeah absolutely nightly and also if you're going to fit a meal you can it to get away from you don't kid you know want to be. You know with kids or an agenda police and also because they said it was for Didn't it it wasn't for t. This isn't this isn't a child friendly piece if you want to teach your kid safe or tea or this one child then go to you know some with this girl please be an it well I mean there's lots of things in this isn't those to whether or not you should ever have a word with their someone else's child whether you know as a stranger should do or whether as a friend you should do it but also and this is the kind of age old since we started going out for you know food with Ken which is relatively recent I mean back when you were a child and I mean they didn't have restaurants they were. Arrested. Then that was it that is relatively recent people go for coffee the city they go for tradin or for whatever and you know he has his energy and so we let him run a boat a big. Yeah I mean that has no become completely justified as a reasonable thing to do but chilly should kids be drawn into a restaurant I don't think it's acceptable it's like a dog trainer and a restaurant I mean you wouldn't want a dog sniffing at you or your mind you that's different because this is a certain direction you know I think I think kids have to be kids need parameters like you do these last I'm just you know like. You. Need varying degrees of need good amateurs need to be reminded and here's the other side of it it's 29. Let's say get them up bring what you are going a little bit well look at babies then they can relax you can oh I had children with their parents why can't they learn to be socialized Why can't they be part of society why do people like you want. Frankly I knew this but to say I just knew I just knew we need some help people in order to try and pick our way through this I actually agree with you on accountability or go up for my happiness is that right that's our 1st. Really thought about this and I thought Ok I might be if I was the parent might be a bit humpy was really honest it probably before the reason that you just say it in that I would feel. A bit humiliated because I shouldn't have allowed that situation to arise and a did yeah and so probably my hump would be that I was kind of caught. But you do the thing that people say it takes a village to raise a child you know. People see it takes a village to raise a child I can't remember whether it was Hillary Clinton Michelle Obama someday like that anyway I'm sure some do sell it before. It's very My Angelou to me. But I really subscribe to them and they do think that in modern period here we have Gore sort of like my child is my child and don't you actually come into my child's orbit if you've got anything to say about my child then you knew you see to me and I think we do this for teaching as well as you know when I was a kid if the teacher told me off and I went home and said the teacher told me off my dad would see a good you get a bite out of it did something wrong Bakley Exactly and there's always a message which felt quite unjust sometimes bar none the less you knew that was a line you were going to get whereas I think that has really kind of changed not to think is necessarily a good thing and I actually think it's great that the waitress just said hey there come on you're going to get her you're going to get put in your head if you talk about it to. Your seat I think the parents are kind of quite selfishly probably so in love with their own child that it's quite funny that they're going to bring one dinner and the rest and I think you know everyone says entertain with a child is there I mean it's just lazy they're probably so absorbed with I know that even though it's a child she's winding up. Going keep going. From ear to says yes it's Ok if you have to discipline someone else's child is evident that the parents are incapable of doing it a bit the parents would have been angry of wholefood had fallen on the. Deed to these bell in the slow the in says some parents are clearly incapable of bringing up children to have understanding of what is acceptable behavior waste of time raising it with the parents so you have to do their job with them it is the only option I don't think it's always to tame reason it with appearance I think it's a point because you know he might just have been in conversation but I think as you see if it been pointed out to you to feel slightly humiliated and I would if were as well and I did remember that I noticed you know me shooting happened again. Yes Ok right well Karen we will wait and see what people think about this we have there the court of current is no officially open so the situation will play again a little bit later but you're in a restaurant your toddler is feeling a bit boisterous So you let them to kind of meander about explore the restaurant get under the feet as a waitress the waitress has a few sharp words and shoot at the waitress have done or is the parent right to get a little bit about. If it ever happened to you from either end of it if you ever have a disciplined somebody else's child or indeed that you have been the parent do tell us about it you can text as on 8 to 95 or email k a b b c dot co dot u.k. And also I do think there's a difference between a stranger situation and a family situation and the friendship situation is that you risk that friendship during your year because you're not going to maintain a relationship with that waitress or she with you he with you whereas with a family member then it could cause problems I suppose and Ireland editor says yeah do tail off other people's children it works very well because the kid doesn't expect in a subdues them even if they tell their mom or new. Daggers that if this thing if they're spoiled they need to be taught how to behave. And put all this is unanimous this one nobody is thinking and I think actually the problem seems to be that many cases the parents aren't disciplining their own children so please stop that darling mother by not stopping that darling I think you know for one scout and people who agree with you today yeah yeah even u.k. Yeah yeah now would be some day there I still think you're welcome mystics on a Saturday morning but there you go you don't. Get it in that balls Oh well keep it Pole. Radio Scotland. And Monday night it is one of the most anticipated controversial film releases all the. Crazy. Please please please. Please please. Joker played by Joaquin Phoenix has received many pullers views from standing too irresponsible it is the 1st live action film to receive an r. Rating from Picture Association of America 2 to for. Ellen and disturbing content and we have got 2 very different opinions over here in the studio civil incident film and television critic Good morning to you have on morning good morning Eddie House and t.v. And film critic morning Andy good morning good morning before we get into the Chilcot is it alright to tell off someone else's child to fall on. It depends how big the parents are. Very very wise Eddie you know I think you've got to be sensible or believe things other people you know they've got to be to shift and lead to different and or you may be taking away from that I think you leave it to the parent all enter anything at e.m.i. Have to get back on target carrying a little bit you're the 1st person they're taken that light Ok thank you for that and so Eddie you were the you had concerns about the fellow Yeah yeah I mean when I was a kid anyone when entering told me a film was morally reprehensible I was like stressed in line for a decade you know that anything that you're told controversial is ethical you can really curious to see a well I'm getting older now and I'm looking at the Joker and I'm thinking I don't know what I think of that so I don't think I don't feel good about it doesn't morally reprehensible to me the main character this is a children's character character every child knows movies and through comics and now the new way of looking at the joke it's somebody with a brain injury Well maybe just pay back a little bit and I'm sure have all agree with him but just give us the explanation for people who haven't seen it was only at the weekend I think a lot of people will be aware of that but no you know really 10000000 worth is so gather the quick Perry said he would prefer reimagining of the Joker character from the Batman comics and if imagining how he came to be the Joker and their explanation is that he is a clone or appears in children's hospitals He's our kind of unemployed actor and his kind of problem is that you have got a brain injury I'm one of them since I took exception to in the film it's that you see him in a boss where he's laughing uncontrollably because of his brain injury and he hands out a little card to people saying you know the reason that this this guy is behaving like this is because it's a pain injury better I hated that scene because there are people who really have to give evidence cards to explain that they have a mental health condition and unfortunately you know the film is going to make it much more difficult for it I didn't like what the so much draws are mental health issues. Somehow lead to violence I mean that's a very dangerous equation in front of people actually home why we have a teenage audience and I think that that's a quite a dangerous message that I don't like the treatment mental health issues or so it's a very it's silly and it is a fairly violent movie there's some pretty graphic violence in it well I think the boxing about that will cut by a little before but not quite like that for me because the choker gets 100 on and he fires on armed people is to me breaking a taboo and we're kind of going to struggle a little regardless of the children's audience because I think that is kind of potentially dangerous in the seventy's years that you are. For people to come as range of because something bad to talk to them but nobody is frightening the Joker he takes up the gun and he fired some people that are not armed no to leave that is quite a dangerous message to get out there to young people and I do think the committee should marry twice because the screen. When you think differently. Well yeah I mean 1st time we seem to be coming back a lot of the time to the idea that the Joker is a children's character that it is as you said at the start an r. Rated film that been certificate it for you know as an adult entertainment not one for children I do think as well you know we've got a swear list scare stories going on in there and. It will play into the sensibilities of people who already feel disenfranchised that the. Malignant spirit is actually the death count is pretty modest compared to many popcorn I suppose the difference is that this is character driven psychological drama that to the movies of the seventy's like Taxi Driver in king of comedy I think Eddie makes an interesting point about the pretrial. Many people with mental health problems. I remember actually trying to cheer up somebody who was just kind of being sexual and struck by how very few films could actually lead because of their portraits. Of mental illness I mean it's something I think for debate. In an adult context. You know do we do do we then have old aliens put off limits to the fear all. This being a misrepresentation to have them or Hannibal Lecter. Or Dr Evil name or Norman Bates and there's a man with her Atonement a child it might my education to. His characterization is exclusively I mean this is a film that idea and I defending that I did to either stink I think both of us think it's a good film certainly not the masterpiece that it's being hyped up since the Venice Film Festival I think a lot of that has been on the performance of Joaquin Phoenix which you know was quite an extraordinary in my opinion performance as an individual and it was difficult not to be kind of beguiled by that it's very intense waking isn't it yes yeah I mean I have to say if I had a problem with that I'm never going to get into the business of film critique because it's just not my thing I very infrequently actually go to the movies I was persuaded by my other half to go and I did come a you know feeling as if I had been punched in the stomach and I was conflicted I have to say. I asked to have a fellow about it because yes I thought it was an amazing performance by Joaquin Phoenix you know it was incredible bar the broader not a turn around it I was really quite comfortable with I mean whether or not it will you know it crosses a line you know I don't know but you know there was the saying well it was of course the sort of the big wigs of society were dictating all the terms and then we had the dispossessed you know of whom the Joker became the hero. And they were kind of rising up against the elites So I mean that kind of plays into some not it is that we see no but the violence that was waged a poll on some individuals and how do you were you were talking about this. You know it seemed to kind of suggest to me that somehow it was justified you know because that these elitist figures were objectionable and repugnant which indeed they were and so they say it somehow justified them getting blasted in the face. With. A gun that I was uncomfortable with shovel. Right well I mean I think you put your finger on some of the problems I find I have with Joker which is that this is didn't start this shows a man left then any help from society and and he's up against what are basically lazy characters everybody is listening to maybe you know this film seems to suggest you know this is consequence could free kill him because you know every everybody that he turns it on is either Cindy sketched doesn't exist or is appalling and you know if if Todd Phillips The director is making a point about To Kill a society seems to be rather loading the dice it doesn't see much of a political statement tied. Trained in the either the left or the right in politics could use that point for their own purposes. And and if somebody is to say do you think the Joker is a particularly thoughtful film I would have to say no but if we're going to talk about you know violence in movies and the possibility of copycat violence then I think we're barking up the wrong tree when what critics seem to fear is that after flight the Joker in addition to being a very sad and happy and violent man is also the kind of person that we imagine would get would excite people. In real life too to go ahead and commit copycat crimes and. And to that I guess we have to add that every advanced society in the world sees the same Mary's Place the same video games none of them have America's gun violence statistics you know it isn't culture that kills people it's guns. And what is it about this film that particular I mean I know you said that you're part of the trail of mental illness you're very uncomfortable with but you know you spend your life critiquing films and I'm sure you have issues with was most of the films that you see what is this one that disturbs you beyond that that you think is a protect killer concern floated to answer your question or just refuse from English or contra she says no consequences there are consequences for Joker. Action inspire an army of people to imitate him in the film and to me you know what you're suggesting it's actually you become a man and through violence you become a man and a message reading it says that. I don't think I don't think it implies manliness the violence I really didn't get that from the film you could become He is triumphant and the end result we could become the character will be a lot through behaving violently you know that is what the film should. He believes in a violent way and it becomes the characters that we know and love and formative bring that makes him achieve it. By showing you know young people by when it's something you could become a you know by Iranian people I think that's a terrible message and I think you but sometimes film supposed to teach moral lessons to people is that is that the purpose of movies for you. I don't think should move it to your. Point you might have a kind and morality say I mean whether or not they are supposed to teach moral lessons do we have a discomfort with them a parting appearing to preach an amoral message and this is supposed to provoke thought because they're supposed to make people ask us not supposed to provide easy answers and I have to conclusions post discomfort that is the power of even something that's a bit mid-range like here but then I think it's got to be pretty clever or some yes I like it was that clever clever film and this is the interesting thing here we are now having to defend Shakespeare Martin Scorsese a film that you know has been hyped up a lot by the media and and as an interesting sidebar it suggests that one of the reasons why it lacks context and so many of the critiques is that some critics are disappearing from papers along with arts coverage so you have commentators don't have a sense of context don't have don't seem to go on to the cinema more than once every 2 years trying to your current context is just a small point but I think it's one worth make you know I mean use papers unemployment because that's me so I wasn't trying to be a film critic there I was just something I went to see on Monday and I absolutely leave it to you guys and Listen Sean thank you very much to do.
