Radio Lincolnshire Good afternoon you're listening to Conakry live today from Hildreth shopping center in that Skegness and it's a beautiful day in here as you'd imagine know already for Christmas above my head there's some gorgeous Silva tinsel with golden ball bulls and silver bulls and red by his draped over the rafters here along the main shopping mall it's peaceful and if I tend around I can see part of Santas grotto which is themed to the pantry this year at the embassy which is Jack in the Beanstalk side there's a giant storybook I opened up once upon a time it says on the front and above that there is a being stork and Jack and the characters from it will talk more about the decorations here at the other side of the shopping center there are reindeer as well which talk Ah I've recorded at little chat with them you can hear that later on the a snail and dancing as well to my right to and just outside the doors a huge Christmas tree as well with the lights just twinkling now as has dusk begins to to fall outside we're going to talk to Steve Andrews who is manager at Hildreth shopping center in just a moment he works with the staff at it to make the use decorations It's absolutely brilliant the jobs I do they want to wards for them so we'll talk more about that but let's have your ass. Did you shall we I'm going to take you back to one of the you hits and head lodges one of your featured years 983 and why you had songs like this. Because you never. Know. What. Some of the songs he had to add in the chops like that I would my it. Was said that I would just silence aid the stream pool young and love the common people as well 983 that was so you featured topping the charts this week. Was this one. The flying pickets that was the number one song. A year but I wonder if you know who originally had the hit it was so I knew you before it was say 982 you who originally had the hits with that song I. Want to go 3 star you message do get in touch pile on Twitter at b.b.c. Radio links and of course the email at b.b.c. . But you a hit for the flying picket sit in your feet to who originally had a hit with it to get in touch Prince was covering the shopping center as well but let's have a little bit of Christmas spirit from shaking Stephen said Merry Christmas everyone . We've. Savaged and to the moon and back and all b.b.c. Radio Lincolnshire we will have shaken Stevens and Merry Christmas everyone would have thought one next day you're listening to at said the hill trades at a shopping center in Skegness today as people get ready for Christmas What's a shop is getting some presents getting decorations some people getting the kitchen for oil for the tacky that sort of thing and the old the bags full of people walking past May I'm joined by the Center Manager. Hello and thank you very much for having us pleasure always it was lovely to see you 31 year. But not always as manager no boy. Yeah. There's a clear you know believe it or not and I'm just up to my every single job in the sun to goodness May And what brought you to mess in the 1st place on k. Move my wife moved my. Parents lived here we just moved open and he loved the place . But you've loved the shopping center. Is a magical place to work and it really is certainly at this time of year we live in this summer. So how long have you been manager I've been manager for 6 years now. So yeah a.c.c. Is just a natural product progression really and what's what do you have to do as manager of a shopping center. How many hearts of. Literally everything from from market into account to making sure the staff are happy and the tenants are happy and the customers are happy so literally everything and we are surrounded by beautiful decorations not only have we got the tinsel above our heads which is to right across that the rafters in the twinkling lights but we've got the gorgeous decorations that you and your staff of made and you've been doing this for some time how long have you been making your own decoration for 31 years one year is did you start did you start. The manager of the time asked me to if I could do anything some part of my trade so I said I'd have a go buy me some polish and also I can do so we started very small we are some fantastic feedback and year on year we just got bigger and bigger Really so what did you do in that 1st year we just made a castle with some little gnomes on on them and it went down well and then every year we just got bigger and bigger and bigger and he's still got the castle in the names. Right now we tend to give a lot away to charity. So when when we made and we finish with them we try to pass them on so they they've got another life somewhere else that's lovely and of course we've got much more than the cattle and some names this year and Jack and the beanstalk is the theme because you work with the the embassy theatre and whatever panted they're putting on yeah that's right well it's the main grotto this year it is $26.00 foot tall it's got a giant right on the top of the castle with with Jack and his mom and the cow right in the middle even the golden goose plays an appearance and I love that this sort of entrance to the grotto is a story book open up and you can see that the page is the book and where on the page which reads once upon a time yes a giant fairy tale books are The idea as you walk through the pages of the book into the grotto to see Santa. And yeah I'm really pleased with the. Hand carved from from Polish tiring no one else in the country's got anything like it but it's remarkable I mean you couldn't tell it's made of Palestine going to start with and then of course it's all painted and looks lovely So that's right right next to us we've also got a snail man who's sort of dancing around to our right to haven't made that they. Know but all the other suffer we've got Percy the postbox or the magic or spots where children can come along and post letters to Santa and within 24 hours they got a reply from Santa and then of course we've got. The singing reindeer down the bottom as well which are very popular will come to the reindeer in just a moment you mention the paste box the children post a letter to Santa and they get a reply within 24 hours that's right yeah they're all individual replies Santa writes them they go to a special shoe to North Pole and Norman had no replies to them with with Santa is very special in days if you mention the reindeer they're right at the other end said they're at the other entrance to the shop and sent out just play a little clip day that I recorded earlier with them. The rain to talk and saying that they're in Kenya on this year so this sink in Candy Land and that the reindeer that the 2 beautiful reindeer is fairy and and sort of looking at each other and talking yeah they're there in a couple of reindeer bonds and they've got. The elves for male virgin and they're all making chocolate bars and candy canes and gone drops and you can go along and have a listen to the song on the floor how long does it take you to create these designs by starting January goodness they say after this Christmas you'll be starting on a new theme in January yeah next year is already planned. Can you give us any any hints. I believe you know and some to a. Wonderful guy you got to go out there that we've got an awful lot. The enjoy reasonably and people come just to look at these decorations and then they had a couple from Canada who popped in because they wanted to see them they come from all over the country and it's quite quite bizarre because it's lovely to just touch people in the mouth when you're asked where they come from. The come from 234 hours away just to see the displays it's. A real boon for us exclusively and you've won awards we've won national awards and we've represented the country in San Diego so . Yeah on Sunday is quite. Lovely to represent a small center. That is amazing and what with it what with the awards. Purple Apple which is like the Oscars of the marketing world and the ice on the awards and the moxie awards as well it's amazing that's for early on and it's you know what an honor they were it shows that the work that you put into it over the nice thing is that actually every single person there only some stuff and everybody gets involved from making painting to erect and so it's really really nice where they look beautiful We're going to talk a bit more about some of the other things that go on at the center Steve say do or do you stay and have a chat Well we'll play a song there they are in fact before that would have our afternoon teas question once again do you get in touch if you know the answer you're featured year which is 983 so the flying pickets at number one this week with only you but wondered if you knew you were originally had a hit with if you do it's a want triple 3 start you message and Steve do you know the answer if you don't say we're listening you know he wasn't listening Steve wasn't paying attention will move on shaking Stevens now they're with Merry Christmas everyone b.b.c. Radio Lincolnshire travel. The I want to see delays in link in rugby road coming out of the city coming in on sex the road little bit on the as he saw it so the closer it stayed filled all fairy rode us the ongoing flooding situation. Radio Lincolnshire trouble. For the weather man say have you got all your Christmas shopping done so made a couple friends I also have to make a decision about my wife doing something the 1st 3 years we will save and then if one of the pack still yet so I just get something in reserve he's not needed you could use a case every lead and then if your wife produces something for a meal you can but you seem real Allem if she doesn't you can drink anyway it was a great on their part because she doesn't drink you will know full well that is not for her I was like a baby William right strides like the songs to me. Baby somebody I'm in control. No. Susan. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Finally we got a mish aching state Merry Christmas everyone p.p.c. Radio play good show you're listening to come on the green live today. Shopping said to nes. Question then net today was this the flying pickets that we're number one in this week. 1983 with only you have a listen. To me. Oh. Oh. But your question was who had the original hit with it Poles got in touch to sing it south killing him he knows the answer side as Malkin drawn failed to tim's on email b.b.c. U.k. All say get it correct I'll come back to you Steve Andris manager here at the shop is a dab You've been listening now absolutely do you know the answer to the question no idea. It was a yes' they too had the original head as you and I I remember now do you. Well that if you got it right playing along at home I am here with Steve Steve Andrews who is the manager of shopping center would in talking about your beautiful decorations in the award see of once a day is that you've also just won an award for the green way you do it in the sentence have a spit more about that it's something very close to our hearts we. Were very big with the green issues not just locally but across the world so we do lots of things like a couple of years ago we decided to recycle all the food waste from the cafe on site so we compost that so we can use that for all our hanging baskets and tubs around the center. And we get involved heavily with the Skegness eco center and flourishing families there so we try and link people together as well so we look at schools together and. Old people's homes things out there and it's just a nice thing to do and you encourage people to come along and get involved in this yeah again you might be mentioned earlier on but with the links your community on to service they helped us last year and all we asked people to do were to sow a few seeds in the mile and then we asked them if they'd like to come back and plant them and it became seal ins and I think we had about 36 people said we wish to do that they came by and we built some planters and we encourage them to to plant a fruit and vege in the planters with the idea that anybody could come along and harvest them any time and it was wonderful it was a really nice scheme and it brought a lot of people together a lot of young people and a lot of old people and it was a really nice nice Well we're talking at least again Adams of Community Links now y.m.c.a. And she was here with the band to benches you have several of those sit in the shopping center one just just next to us you're going to have a special day where you feature the benches on the yeah I think it's on the 21st of January and. There are a lot of lonely people and the idea is that it 1st started with my staff and we just had a an idea that they could sit on the bench when they had a quiet period and just start talking to people and it's amazing how when you say hello to someone they start talking back and then someone else is down starts talking and then my stuff would get open walk away and just leave them somewhere talking so we call them Banta buddies so the punter buddies. Just sit down and just start talking to people really and we're going to have some pin budgets made and we're going to give it out to the public the locals and if they've got 5 minutes when they come shopping if you want to put the budge on sit down on the bench and just start talking to people just may be the town or happy or broad quest really nice a lovely idea and what sort of stories have you had if you've been a band to but do you sell Yeah it's really nice because some people say that the we were the 1st interaction that it had or that the 1st human voice that they've heard all week and things are. Really sad priest nice to think that we've made a difference and in some way it's lovely it's lovely and I mean you'll roll is manages the sprites beyond the center doesn't it. We also have Century Sundays as well. Mainly for autism so all the music all the lights are turned down so people who who do do have them can come in in a nice quiet calm peaceful environment. And that's a wonderful eyes it's lovely am as a shopping center How is it doing with regard numbers than shops that are a pain yeah I would fully let us be one of the very few shop instance in the whole country Skegness really our old it's all very busy as you can see today is just nice to see people about people think we're just a seaside town and it's the main 6 weeks holidays but it's nice all year around well that's the sense we're getting certainly from the people we've been speaking to. It's easily around Christmas is is just as as as busy but a different failed we have as many people through in December as what we do in June so that tells you how many people we go. Play we'll thank you very much for sparing us time again thank you for letting us come in and peer into people's bags people getting some lovely gifts I've even been bold some people some sweets look would you like one. Thank you very much for chatting and well done again for everything you do and the decorations look see Steve Andrews that his manager at the shopping center hair is mess Hildreth shopping center we're going to spread our wings in amazement and find out a little bit more about what's happening at the embassy at the. Mess so we'll do that but let's have a little bit more music now his Barry White. And a. Review speak to a. Review B.b.c. Radio Lincolnshire. For once to make it matter. For once in your head to be. Don't try. To sing. Live. Robbie Williams time for. B.b.c. Write a link and shabby feel that Barry White the fast the last my everything you're listening to colleague rain adds that Hildreth Hildreth shopping center in Skegness the light is fading fast outside but it means that the beautiful lights inside when can leave the net will bright in the shopping center i gess to hit with pride to Bob from the embassy theater in Skegness. Not not sir just sort of about 5 minutes away yes yeah not too far a quick walk for me this afternoon. Thank you very much for joining us here you brought along a little booklet of some of the shows that are coming up and this is just not even all of them but there is a many in this book let alone the absolutely So we've been leafing through a copy of our gift guide which shows everybody what we've got coming up sort of in 2020 so we've got a record 3 West End shows we've got she wanted Wadi we've got a community production of Shrek the Musical So there's sort of a bit of something very body and that's just a snapshot of what we've got in 2020 we just need to rewind to watch you are today absolutely yes yeah definitely all for you yes just for me I'm looking now look Saturday the 30th of May be my good best. People do take the Michael out of me for being a massive she want what he found but I bet that's a pretty and a Oh absolutely yeah I mean we're lucky to have an abundance of different things so we've got stars from strictly We've got Chris Ramsay we've got Jimmy Carter we've got she what he was Giovanni along with tribute acts just a host of different shows appeal to sort of a broad spectrum of people is amazing and this year we have not one not 2 but 3 shows that are coming from the West End to Skegness Yes absolutely so it's a bit of a coup to have one in a year so to have 2 is brilliant but I have 3 So we've got through the live in April at Easter so each to 2020 is followed by I'm going to Christie's mousetrap in May and then announced last week but went on sale yesterday for the 1st time we've got the top of the musical so something very funny and these performances that are literally straight from the West End on top Yeah absolutely yeah they're all West End tours on the East Coast so sort of bringing the west end to the east coast. How little loves lady of rehearsed that was that off the cuff Now I used a few weeks ago to be honest. I like it day from the west end to the east coast I think that's lovely You always have so many and wonderful performers I'm sure you don't have to push tickets for some you mentioned Jimmy Carr and of course we have our very end Jay Brown as well on his 60th anniversary tour Yeah absolutely so you know the venue has been incredibly lucky over the past 4045 years to have stars from every single spectrum so we've had Ken Dodd we've got Joe Brown as I say you got Sure what do you want to be we've had a host of stars from the searchers to the bow and knights just sort of every possible celebrity you can imagine from every part of the entertainment industry is astride the board at that stage and it's an incredibly majestic place to work but also when you consider some of the people of walk those walls it is quite emotive it pretty It proves that there is still a huge appetite for the sort entertainment How hard is it. Has it a yearly industry where you've got a lot of competition around everybody is selling tickets. How do you keep things fresh and keep people coming through the doors it just varies on the nature of the product so for something like Thriller it's all about the music just a celebration of that music I got to Christie's mousetrap it's just a incredible piece of fear for the longest running theatre show in the world for an amazing night out it just depends on what's on entertain you want to embrace but from my perspective it's about making sure they've all given their day in the sun so we can ensure that this one time is delivered to as many people as possible. It just depends on the nature of the show really but we you know we're very lucky a lot of our customers are incredibly loyal but we try and do different things so we've recently worked on this embassy experience we've opened a new hospitality suite upstairs which means people can enjoy appreciate drink and I kind of wait to table service and then they go into the auditorium for the main show and then come back into it afterwards for something at the interval it's just about turning a night out of the theater into an experience as well as what happens on stage how long have you been at the embassy I mean the embassy just over complete years now so it's absolutely brilliant and it's a wonderful place to work and as you say there's all of this stuff going on with more to follow. You know it's never a dull moment well I'm going to act in that where you from Lincolnshire originally Yep so I was born again in spills Bay and still live there now. So I sort of my short commute to work listening to be a radio link which on the way to get me in the mood is great you know it's because you know it's a great job all of it why did you get into this sort of career. It's just something I've always done I've always enjoyed the entertainment industry so I was one of those people used to sit down. Watching the telly on a Saturday night she'd have things like the great and also house party generation game all that sort of thing and it just sort of fed my infusions of the industry up on a couple of other things before this and then in the end I just happened to notice a job advertised at the embassy and I thought I have to go fax my theatre it means a lot to me when I 1st saw something alive and the fact I work there is it still takes my breath away on a regular number of occasions to be honest that's a lovely story is brilliant and it's about Panta of course you've got Jack and the Beanstalk on at the moment with respect to a couple of the cast from it you do panties in house now so what does that mean so we used to use an external pantomime and now from 2017 we've gone 3 now Aladdin Cinderella and this year being jack in the Beanstalk and everything that you see on stage from the set to the lighting to the choreography to the costumes to the makeup down to the sort of the nth degree is all created and compiled by theater staff or some outside partners set designers not all think so we have complete control over the product and it allows us to invest all of our income into next year's show which is already on sale unbelievably But we've already got next year's pantomime on sale and it just allows us to have toll creative control and means that we can invest very wisely in what would hopefully be a really really good pantomime you know we had some great reviews after the 1st performance yesterday and it continues to the 28th of December Well good luck with the rest of the the Pantai run and with the year ahead so many different artists featuring I will be there front Ray for the sure what do you want to. Have to stop me from getting on the stage. Big burly of my. Friend and thank you very much for joining us and to you read about there from the embassy in the embassy theatre give the gift of entertainment they certainly do that day they say many stars sir performing there and 3. Not one not 23 we've got 3 and the mass trap as well have a look and see if there's anything that you might want to watch you're listening to . So we go to the riser is the time for a song sneak a song and maybe die Streitz We'll have that after the traveling to the rights fest . Radio Lincolnshire travel. Booking round the Lincoln I think quite heavy already of the rise so roundabout right the road coming out of town that libretto little bit slow the senses as well so the closure is staying filled off for a road that's all that flooding still them right around Boston John Adams way coming in on Spaulding road coming out on spills the road and also getting honestly for it right want to see the light but a busy Grantham is welcome in a month all right we're going to be right area was quite happy as well we can have a burst water main aborts and so we're fiscus and road is closed and looks like a bus route 28 being affected as well that's a block from Station Road bus water main physics and road Bolton that's the reason for that closure on the trains on the on the East Coast after all your problems to a problem in Kings Cross still could be up to a valid alike if you spot a problem or need to do is give me a cold I want 5 double to 5 wonderful 6 something James b.b.c.
