Given the circumstances that they've been under for the last week seems quite interesting dramatic news and we'll hear the latest from the election campaign over election cast mates rooms. Straight has suffered a devastatingly early bushfire season we know because we've covered it amongst other things on a regular basis the deadly spring blazes have burned through almost 2000000 hectares in New South Wales and Queensland alone many animals managed to escape the fires but others unfortunately haven't survived even Ritchie is a wildlife ecologist from Deakin University how bad the bushfires this season to wildlife human compared to previous years. I think they size Iran this and did it what I predicted of course as a result of climate change. And so I was saying you know it quite distressing imagery is qualitative seems to. Sound to screaming at animals in the forests that are dying threatened by size size in the under arrest and night at every stage in a size are just some wild life do we know how animals reacts when there is a devastating fire like this they are likely to try and get away do they get a sense of them or do they try and remain in their homes and where their environments. Yes Some analysts have the ability to oversee Skype the sauce I feel are of a secret why why they have that option even kangaroos going off or why you know areas like it or. That other animals on fortunately don't have that option say small scales and reptiles on the ground often kind of Skype to saw small mammals you know it's a small must say people that live on the ground a guy can't really escape the fire. Many invertebrates of course that we often think get about oral sex captured and they saw it and killed it so there's a lot number of animals that on 8 are now the latest Guy case Fawaz Carlos' one of those small mammals. As you mentioned do you know have any sense of how many callers have died as a result I don't think there's a good population estimate yet about how many have died but I think the point relate that the parent bonded that where they thought a. While And then claims led to particular. Koalas are already in decline inside their already threatened and so any loss of quality from there is there is really a big problem for Conservation of that space. That's what we're really concerned about the quality but also if other spaces well that are threatened already and they saw as Mike and compound this situation another thing that we all say need to bear in mind of course that they saw this as they go through it's just going to habitat in some cases inside the animals even if I thought the Farnoosh might not have a harder to survive in a long time and Iowa City more experienced other threats like introduced credit to my sorrow cats and foxes which can pry on many if I'm not a wildlife are they know those front row cats and folks is very know as. Subject to the funds as the idea of a no under threat is wrong. Feral cats and foxes can be killed in fires is no doubt about that IOW quiet by Paul said many times that place got a fire the fire is not to lodge it to each train and from recess they actually come in to enter Israel to flee quickly to take out his opportunities to find animals that modest have on the fire but have no way left to hide or animals that money can be injured inside cats and foxes can actually take advantage of. The risk to Woodlawn from a bushfire be mitigated anyway. So there's a number wise again of mitigate the impact of of course that biggest money so governments around the world including its trial has to actually act on climate change it's been produced from climate scientists that will expect more extreme and regular Fawaz as a result of climate change and we're now starting to say some of that is that we really need to act at that high level but of course also I presume that he had a tad of babies the really important thing to say and fortunately straggly has had quite substantial land clearing and much habitat is sort of been broken up into really small chunks and I want to 5 guys through that main an animal in living in that sort of small area loses a large amount of its habitat in it which means that population is less likely to a couch with you know so I tag animals from day into areas into into custody and try to allow them to recover and then return them to the wild always can relocate animals from one area that's not there that might know people and to the whole range of things they can do all we can know is that control feral predators that as I mentioned before feral cats and foxes in the area set up there to try and stop them taking advantage of areas but really need to be doing old icing to reduce the effect of fire or not it was. You know and thank you Yoon Ridgeley there who's a wildlife ecologist from Deakin University earlier I spoke to Richard Lewis is the deputy's board's news editor the Daily Express and asked him what's on their back pages this morning it's a picture of her as a Marine you're talking to telly Allie with the headline Are you the real Delhi What a match. At the understatement question What a question absolutely he's asked question and more answers that's that's trousering are asking about which Julie Allie will step forward and it's a great quote. Just taking over a course a Spurs manager saying I asked him if he was Delhi or delis brother said Delhi Ok I said play like that. You know. Wherever you go I think I said. Miss him every week we have missed this guy anyway we have missed you know his charisma his quotes is Well absolutely but the amazing thing is of course it's an interesting point because he hasn't been a great season and you would think that with a new manager maybe this could spark him back into the planet that he was you can hear the fans and you know the West Ham fans when they play later on you can hear them shouting every time Delhi touches a bull Oh yeah yeah yeah I think it has set up for him but of course we do wonder whether even price did I think it will be surprised if he really starts on the bench. You're right you know doesn't beat around the bush this mystery you know and. It's been quite as if. Misty has been quite weak you've been given a lot to write about because of what's had been happening at Spurs ground Well the funny thing is this week I thought I took a kind of nice holiday off the international period because it's nobody's very quiet after the international games because the England played last Sunday and it's actually quite a call weeks. I caught up on some holiday I made it of course is going to coyotes because you know I try as I don't I think for the moment happened on on Tuesday evening I'll pass 7 it's been Jones I tell you all the way through. And it's been great and it's actually been it's been so it's actually very refreshing as you seem small. You know you fair as history shows it doesn't always and so I would just as I really started off and I thought sorry it's a different character now and I think I actually think it's a gripe with him and had to bring someone you know and I think he's just the character the modern electronics are you know what you're going to get and by the way I think there isn't a single managerial or coaching appointment doesn't end. And interiors one way or another you know they're not going to last forever rather they move on and invariably and. They get sacked so they move on to another club of their own volition but. You know he ends in tears isn't she so we'll watch that space Meanwhile the other side of North London there's another. Hags like yourself are keeping their eye on. Absolutely another big headline about the place this morning is Emery could have 5 matches less. And that's come from the also actually Dixon he believes he also managed Emery is just those 5 games aside his job playing sometimes in the soft and I don't. Remember a stop start season of course Ross know. And it's just not going as the fans would hope you guess the grand plan was not a lot is. And I'm not playing nor is brought in to West Ham in the lake and I have contracts Franks slurs and Europa lately Dixon signed this one the guy is crucial it's a perfect run almost a free hit it also count get a chunk of points and consider I place the top 4 then he's in trouble if I doesn't happen I think that will be fair and I He won't be there and then oh yeah well there's been lots of talk that he won't be there the New Year things done to themselves around that of course Joe's I learned I was linked with the OS to Joe. When he cries if Pitino went off the cue much I can't imagine what that would be something I said it all and in his room enough that I just described him this guy the privilege football always surprises me that we will have to start history. I doubt it will but you just never know but again you know the pressure is now on it's no memory and he create the pressure would possibly think maybe on the also ball when they looked across the top of the top number and I made a big change is it working out for you and I am really you know yes you have to get not just time but it hasn't gone it hasn't gone like the awful fans. Thing and was punching Tina is out of a job. Suppose most of the mayor thought most Premier League coaches would be looking over their shoulder when. They will be and one of those of course is only going to social. In terms of what he's talking about is not a show to the fact that. A portion of a so long as been linked not just United as their headline inside the head of Shepard you know Manchester Maurice's are not fazed by the pressure of polish that social standing in their way never will pressure that will come with their links with a man you know it's it hot seat as we say and so he says what's the best job in the world it doesn't bother me it's 0 and you know it's a plan Well they're getting the results but again when you go to a manager. Like which you know who yes as I want to try for a Spurs bought the reputation. Or to say and you think it doesn't go well a man united with a might change but oh so she's turning around and. I've got a feeling that that's not going to happen just yet it happens itself as well as one coach is generally not concerned is Pep Guardiola because you know many city many people would feel fortunate to have him and he could probably walk into a job anywhere in the world in the Spanish leagues Italian league German league Zadran. You're right absolutely and he's been with some rumors about him about him leaving very it prevents all that So yesterday when we chatted and he said I rejected the talk of a massive coming to an end and look at the future and if they don't win the league the share of. The challenge of trying to. Regain the title so yeah all looks good for City fans here for a long time to come it's another level with those guys isn't it because usually if they win the Premier League this year the Mays probably likely to come 2nd runners up and you think that scene is a failure for Pep Guardiola and perhaps you're going club they did it what shall we because once they've got the raw image size 0 they need to have one oil and what Brendan Rodgers is doing at Leicester City is well you know they remind you sneak up behind them early for 2nd place Oh absolutely and this is another story in the way that Brendan Rodgers of course. Was talking to number one target. Stores around and that is the thing this time I just an amazing because especially because of matches green screen all the time so many replies everywhere every match becomes almost a cup final if you lose it I'm it's a crisis you know Spurs I'm having a great season but I think I won with 50. And if you do lose the game then there is such a major thing and yes asking me to do a bit out but you create outcomes in all areas you know in the past 20 years ago if they lost a couple of matches Well you know anything Alex Ferguson was here out without trying for years before you want to try Pitino is the only modern day example really that magic coming into a club and not win anything and staying in that long period of time because there is so much pressure on same as just took 8 winning winning winning I think. Have identified this excess of the Premier League excellently because this excess of the Premier League all over the world is a every single match is like a cup final every single marriage is like a cup final so much though the actual cup finals are just another match you know what I mean well that's absolutely true and that is true and it is the reason why or teams cry. For us we can tell you they don't like the 1st 11 is in the cup when of course the cup was such a big thing a wise because they know who you know sides like with respect. You know who do so well to stabilize themselves do so well in the in the Premier League if you want to would it with their fans perhaps want to see in a way Treasury one year was more important costarring in the Premier League. So yeah it's true every single match and so much focus is on every guy. And yet another huge huge afternoon today and it could not be starting in a better West Ham's it would be nice for Britain so when the Davis Cup as well and you're featuring that of a bit we are in day what a fantastic night it was in Madrid last night Britain beat Germany in their quarter finals victories for a column and then Dan Evans and Imari didn't lie on the sidelines cheering white which means Britain have progressed in the semifinals tried tested performance from Edmund and and Evans and it's been great this new formats of away from Davis Cup of course used to go into such a long time during the year different periods during the year before that one week of one weekend it was all I know but now it's been taking place all week in Madrid and it could be it could be another glory time for British tennis this week Richelieu sure the express that seems almost unbelievable given the figures that we've seen from own Congress we projected the Polytechnic University with a lot of violence that seems almost unbelievable that more than 4000000 voters in Hong Kong will head to the polls this weekend as the city held deeds destroyed. Council elections the polls are expected to serve as something of a proxy referendum on the protests which began almost 6 months ago and have become increasingly violent in the last couple of weeks even McDonnell is the b.b.c. Correspondent in Hong Kong Stephen before we get to the polls tell us what the current situation is with the standoff for the universe you know and everything else while at the Polytechnic University this. Young activists holding out inside the campus outside the riot police still blocking every exit but they're waiting just as another group came out last last and it's hard to tell how many people are in there because this sort of hiding out and imagine a big university campus all of the rooms you could be hiding in so they may be well it's hard to tell them I still be 40 protestors or they might be there's 25 or maybe there's 16 it's hard to tell but not a lot nothing like the Falcons who were there earlier when we saw those major clashes with riot police and I think it's our He's odd just sort of hoping that eventually they'll just come out in dribs and drabs. And then at some point. I guess the police will go in there and just be checking room by room to see if anyone is left. In the city in the mood to go and vote given the backdrop of the unrest that's been going on for 6 months now. You know I think I actually Ah and that doesn't really matter which side of this debate Sharon. For many either I would prefer to go and go to the developed box rather than see people fighting in the Straits So there's a lot of campaigning going on wherever you walk through the city you see the sort of host is people handing out leaflets for these last minute but it's they're hoping to God. And you rush when you said that it is being seen as this sort of aroma of the feeling in the city more than 5 months into a political crisis and so it's quite polarized though you can imagine the probe will probe aging camp on the one side and on the other pro-democracy or anti current government. Camp or campaigning very hard because they know that apart from the local issues that a local district council would deal with that this will be interpreted as some sort of an indicator of where people are feeling and one of the crucial differences with this election as opposed to say when people vote for the legislative council So Hong Kong's Legislative Council elections a con of rigged you know the pro-democracy can't can never win because only Hoppe of those on the legislative council which is called sort of mini Polman only half of those people to directly elected by the public the other half are appointed by this kind of probe aging Business Committee so by saying if you log we'll always have the numbers on the last legislative council no matter watch but the district council elections are a knob a mascot they don't have that ability to stack the numbers and for this reason it is going to be very interesting to see how people. I say 4000000 people. Are we expecting a high turnout. Look I think they would be a high turnout the only thing that would stop it is if there is. Some sort of a disruption and there have been fear is that. Well conspiracy theories if you like that some would try and disrupt the the polling because the government has said that if any polling station is interrupted for more than an hour and a half then voting at that. Will stop and be postponed until December so the sort of concern has been that given that some in this sort of probe aging cat might feel they're not going to do too well in these elections that these kind of triad gangs might come out and try and deliberately stir up trouble at polling stations in order to. Stop dividing going ahead and I guess the other feet could be that some more radical protesters in the pro-democracy camp if you call it that could also respond or they could have their own sort of protest somewhere and then that could block or rather stop them getting access to a polling booth of something like that so it could well be that there are some stoppages that south and certain places people can't vote but this is going to see how the next 48 hours pans out if the voting can go ahead and what the results are so we may know get results a definitive result a few weeks from this none no no I think we'll get the results pretty quickly actually because since it's sort of district council elections it's not like a big cumulative vote so it's not like you know for a for the ones one party is going to win the whole of all coal or something it's just you can imagine any district council. That will be however many councillors have been voted on to that local government where it expecting that in some places a bit smaller birds that you will know within hours. In other places it might take until sort of Monday morning Hong Kong time which So by the time people are waking up in Britain a Monday morning I think we'll have a good idea. And move the people who use the. Into the way people vote. As a sort of a referendum on the government is what we do who will they pay to whichever way people vote. I think so. Drew because the thing is though just side they'll decide these alone you know people are voting on local issues they've all got all manner of excuses they can use so I got into want to at the moment they're. Standing very firm on saying they won't be an inquiry into the police for example which is one of the key demands of. Protesters that they're saying that. They won't be asking Beijing to introduce universal suffrage that's another demand I think it wouldn't matter if. The pro-democracy candidates roll did in all over the city I think that the administration of Kerry lamb will just. Try and ride this out I mean the funny thing is they thought they were kind of on top of things with the police crackdown a couple of weeks ago I think that they thought they could stop protesting the but they don't go in that they're out of control what's going on in the city. But then you know the university campuses all that sort of exploded last week and then. Things when. Yet again and I think they've been taken aback a bit by. Well the extent to which they're not in control. This situation and that it any point really could blow up now things are quiet at the moment I think because many here want the election to go ahead and they don't want to give the government and excuse to call off these district council elections but once elections are finished well especially depending on the results or if any of the polling booths to close down or anything like that. It could be a trigger for more clashes early next week just explain something to me you mean she mentioned the trial gains which of the. Criminal gangs he called and in China one of the moonlight b. C b o y o they proved Beijing of interest. Well this is a very good question and I think. We've sort of. Got selves to say the same thing but I don't think it's an Audi logical thing for them I think it's this most likely either a favor being paid back to somebody. Some sort of I don't know. The authorities turning a blind eye to some of the criminal activities so they are $50.00 or money. You know they've just bought them off or something along those lines because I don't think there's any particular ideological reason for them to be on one side or the other but they can be bought. And then the equivalents of the math. Of the century try Yes and Yes exactly and this happened before you know of course when they had the umbrella movement protests the same thing happened they turned out why not for some reason just decided to bash up all the student protesters now there's no why would that happen that doesn't seem to make any sense for audiological reasons it's going to be that it's a 5 year old money challenge Stephen thank you Steve McDonald The B.B.C.'s correspondent in Hong Kong that's going to 5 Live headlines. For the 1st time all Forney. Question one the other from audience. Thank you and what terrifies me as I look at some of the Labor M.P.'s Some female Labor M.P.'s and that's happened in the Labor Party they've been driven out the party I look at a video. Particularly because I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt in terms of maybe even your name and not supported by but I look at a video. Where she was in a press conference with you and basically that Reece me a jewish. Press conference was on. And there you are at the end of the press conference chatting happy to that same hick I don't buy this whole. I see that video and that tells me all I need to know and I'm terrified for my daughters because audience is giving Jeremy corporate quiet hard time right from the beginning I don't understand how you can say you stand up for human rights and free speech when that's why you support the Labor m.p. At the Labor press conference I think it's disgraceful Thank you. In public life or privately watch the video. Nobody should suffer abuse and many women Labor M.P.'s Smith included and others suffered the most unbelievable levels of abuse and it was a labor m.p. Jo Cox who was who was murdered because she stood up for public this to the up in public life I simply say to you that bad behavior misogynism racism in any form is not acceptable in any form whatsoever in my party or in our society and what didn't work. And now there's a question about what he would do if he'd renegotiated a new brigs deal I'd put it to the country in a referendum but the question is will you campaign to remain or leave the e.u. If elected can I answer No on love thank you answered that right. One we will negotiate a credible the deal with the European let me finish but I'm trying to answer the gentleman's question secondly we will put that alongside remain in a referendum my role and the role of our government will be to ensure that that referendum is held in a fair was fair and we will abide by the result of it and I would have dropped as Prime Minister if I am at the time a neutral start so that I can credibly carry out the results of that to bring our communities and country together rather than continuing an endless debate about the e.u. And breaks that this will be a trade deal with Europe or remaining in the that will be the choice that we put before the British people within 6 months tell us who you are where we work every 2nd from the Times which is the most crucial bit the most crucial bit without question these job because I've been saying for the 1st time it will be neutral come what may in a 2nd referendum we'd previously thought there was going to be some sort of special conference and I was a bit unclear whether that would dictate just Labor policy or how Germany called in the campaign he's made very clear just at the very end of his passage there that he himself would be neutral use has happened yet News has happened a member of the audience said it was what Harold Wilson did in 175 that's not actually true Harold Wilson let his members of his cabinet campaign different directions it's pretty unclear whether any Labor Cabinet ministers that they would be would want to campaign for leave but when we called me saying even though case to. Be company from a he would be neutral right let's listen to Nicholas sturgeon who's up next thanks very. You would prioritize the Scottish independence referendum over the last 30. 1 the Scottish people have the right to choose their own future because fundamentally for Scotland we've put up with Scotland hasn't voted for the conservative Westminster government for 16 years but for 36 of those 60 years we've had to put up with a Tory government we are faced. They've been taken over the European Union against their will I want Scotland to determine their own future but in answer to your question I will never be prime minister into power I grew up in the West of Scotland I saw the damage I grew up in the thought 2 years I thought the damage that governments did to Scotland and to communities across the u.k. I will never support the Tory government but if Jeremy Corbyn wants the support of the s.n.p. I don't think it should surprise people to hear me see that I would ask him to respect the rate of the people of Scotland to choose their own future and I don't think he'll turn his back on ending a status in order to block that. So far it's a long the big issue that's going to send dependence I wonder if they'll be any Scottish domestic stuff. It was what you 100 deaths in Scotland. The highest in Europe your 3 times more lately Scotland a new school in England. We do not go to what used to be done to reverse this trend Well it's a very good question Firstly some context for that as you're probably aware Scotland's because of a disproportionately high drug use back in the 1980 s. There's an aging core of drug users that have other health conditions which is one is not the only reason but it's one of the reasons for that rising number of drugs deaths it's a public health emergency it's no acceptable what we're doing about it we've been vesting more money in drug treatment services we've established a task force made up of experts but also people with lived experience of drug use to look at the different more innovative things that we need to do Hi I'm r 6 on the * squad in spite of course one of the 9 What are the big this little surgeon. Independent Scotland that I'm missing and I think it's really interesting when she was asked about doing deals with the Labor party and she set out very clearly what she expects she will. Actually tied to decide and that being allowed to have. A 2nd independence referendum in Scotland and actually Qantas is. Actually doing. That that close to getting to know the tender just plant that seed and left I think that will be a problem for Scottish Labor but actually a gift to have jumped on it on social media saying look that was that's what they're going to do if you vote for Labor going to get this deal with the assembly and labor Ok right let's listen to Joe So it's a Liberal Democrat leader in government you voted for the bedroom tax you frequent voted against raising benefits and pretty voted against paying higher benefits to people with illnesses or disabilities so as I was saying we didn't get everything right we do you are a minister in that goal and you know we also have plenty of fights with the conservatives and we won some of those fights and we lost some of those fights and I am story that we did not win more of those fights in coalition because of the reasons that you were lining Now we did stop the conservatives cutting 12000000000 more from welfare we did stop them bringing in the 2 child cap which they did of course when they were on their own in 2015 but I absolutely think that we have lessons to learn from that I've learned those lessons and if you look at what we're setting out we're identifying 6000000000 extra to put into universal credit to make sure that you don't have that 5 week wait which is hurting so many people so that we get rid of that to child care that we get rid of the bedroom tax so I get it we've got stuff wrong and we in the future going forward are determined to get it right Ok quite a few questions about Josue and Sins Past in the coalition government what about those when since the present. Filkin Article 50 confirming to 17400000 people that you think my stupid didn't know what you're voting for. Thank you thank you not remain now. But the Liberal Democrats in the manifesto to unilaterally cancel. On the electoral pact has absolutely cost you my vote the Liberal Democratic Party title is now a misnomer How can you defend that decision thank God I believe or don't have to remain Ok. I mean what I would say in terms of our policy look we are being very straight forward to the party that we want to stop break that you may agree with both you might disagree with us I don't think you could accuse us of not being up front about wanting to stop breaks that we have been crystal clear about that from the very beginning. I'm James Hansen the political editor of b.b.c. Yorkshire thing Joe So it's not a tough time there just because $60000.00 plus students in Sheffield what the Lib Dems did with tuition fees that's not gone down very well and she's paying the price for the previous administration and people stay here in university they stay here after University of Sheffield and so those are not all Spain paying tax and paying off their student loans at the moment she is having to defend her time in the coalition government and a lot of times is having to defend her policy of revoking Article 50 people saying it's not very democratic and also fracking is also a bit of time on fracking a big issue around those few number of sites that they've got plans to frack and that will be a big thing for those in South Yorkshire Ok Boris Johnson's up. Let's take our 1st question for Mr Johnston which is from May. Hello Prime Minister I just like to ask you home put an aside for someone who used possession of post to always tell the truth I think thank you thank you thank you thank you vital and I think that the issue of trust in politics is central to this election and fundamental to the corrosion of trust in politics at the moment you know why do you think you're being asked that question let's be clear is the failure of politicians to deliver bricks it but to be the people you know the time that many people would take a chain of well you. Know Ok there is that issue Boris Johnson and trust coming up again it was a picture of the debate earlier this week. Racist rhetoric in this country is completely rife where you admit that you have passively contributed to this and say the words I'm sorry Well I just thank you thank you I've written many millions of words in my life as a journalist and I have never intended genuine never intended to cause her pain to anybody and that and that is that is my that is my intention what I will say think you are referring to a particular article a year or so ago more than more than that well there's a few in fairness there's a few articles so there's the mostly women going round and I let a process which was last year you have to travel wars with watermelon and flag or even pick an innocent and then just take to get another demographic in the tank topped boys well if you if you if you go through all my articles with a fine toothcomb you can take out individual phrases there is no doubt that you can find things that can be made to seem offensive and of course and I understand that I understand that but what I was saying just as just told me in just on the point to I think the lady will liberate all of us all of was referring to. I defend my right to speak out and I defend I do defend my right to know if you actually read the piece which I don't know how many people have if you read the piece I was really do. I suggest you read any of them all of them what I was really what I was really doing was mounting a strong liberal defense of the right of women in this country to wear what they choose and I think most people and not to be oppressed into wearing something they don't want to wear and I think most people in this country would agree with that. Before the program is even finished Dominic. Turned up to explain why. He. Every time an overload of big names from the Labor Party of turned out. To say why Jeremy Corbyn was. In the b.b.c. News. Really quickly did that let's talk about the last half an hour Boris Johnson came over for you I think what's interesting is what we're trying to do it was 2 things are they to talk about breaks it breaks it down a simple message but also to give some hope to people is on polling is showing that people want some idea of a brighter future so it was talked about aspiration Well it's interesting to drift back to that comfort zone his rhetoric what it said the past some people accused him of racist rhetoric in fact I think is the bit of a sticky wicket when it came to something which seems obscure to most people but it comes down to a central question of trust why wasn't it publishing a report for example allegedly holding up a report in Russian interference in British politics difficult for him to say actually doesn't really need to feel. Either And I think equally He's also challenged on his record in the public services again he is promising more investment but he was also criticised which is Labor's comfort zone. And I think that was the thing for everyone was in it and actually their audiences questions were quite tough and focused on their weaknesses which prevented the leaders getting across their big positive messages that people talk a lot about a lack of trust in politics and still if you towards politicians sometimes cynicism I don't think. Intelligence. Targeted questions. Directly at the weakest point in their arsenal the big news story though is saying he'd be neutral in the future present referendum about his future new deal I think tonight. I suppose but sitting on the fence I mean I think you're very effectively he said explicitly leave so you implicitly there would be a referendum on the live but not taking sides of the different he could have said a week to see when Labor special conference was held it looks at leave to negotiate if it decides. My party decides I'm going to stay above it I think it's because he's actually going to drift from some former Labor voters who voted leave the other parties. Introduce yourself time so you are and then tell us your verdict so I'm out here I am political correspondent the New Statesman I think it was really cares and. The audience at least of really unconvinced by. Boris Johnson on Islamophobia and his record on sort of had to dodge the question of you know whether he would apologize. And obviously is pressed. You know you can't apologize on this think is up to become the story but that was the sort of lingering memory from the thing and a similar thing happened beginning of the debate with Ben was this whole thing worth watching. I think so I mean it definitely was interesting to see Joe Swenson up there I think that was the main takeaway I mean I wasn't surprised that the sergeant performed pretty well and came out of it pretty on skates but I think it was quite clear that just some instance where the policy hasn't really had the impact that they were expecting you know all this awkward silence say from the audience when she was making a reading passionate case for me I think it was just it was interesting to see a live audience react to that. Let's do some reality checking with Chris Morris reality check correspondent and election cast regular this week what stood out for you in terms of people telling the truth. Well the audience told the truth didn't they I mean that's the interesting thing about these kind of things is that you know you get a few zingers in there I think is a bit awkward for Boris Johnson that for the 2nd time in a week when people question about trust and he said I believe in trust in politics that people spontaneously started laughing at the whole audience but some of them and we know that some people in the audience are kind of there because they are Labor supporters or liberal Democrat supporters and I guess the Tory supporters in the audience weren't laughing but on television that's not a great look Ian in his last few minutes the prime minister doubled down several times on his we're building 40 hospitals claim when if you look at it actually Eve because we've been looking at the figures even the 6 that they really are going to be refurbishing some of those not they're not new hospitals and one of the hospitals they're actually taking to any buildings and building one new one and that hospital describes its consolidation so it's not as big a thing as it sounds when when you say yes we are going to build for the hospitals what other claims to do checks and I will though there were one or 2 things that Gerry called and came out with on breaks it which didn't quite work out I don't think I mean the new chap neutrality claim and the suggestion I suppose the. That this is a fairly normal thing to do that Harold Wilson was neutral in the right back in the 1970 s. That doesn't really stand up to scrutiny in the end Harold Wilson did actually produce a letter saying actually I think you should vote today in the e.c. So there were things like that just once and I thought I had a pretty tough time I mean one thing that really became clear was that certainly in this audience the idea of simply revoking Article 50 and stopping Brecht's it on day one after the election just didn't really find favor I think a very notable even a woman who said I'm a Remain I have been a liberal democrat supporter but I can't support that it's not democratic. Well the spinning is continuing on late into the evening with all the little groups of politicians dotted around the room speed dating all the journalists desperately trying to convince them about who won and who lost but this episode of election cast from Sheffield and the big debate will be back with another episode on Saturday morning which we're a classic reflection cast where we look back on what happened this week which was quite a lot. Like you cast election cast election cast in the b.b.c. Thanks for listening to the b.b.c. Election cast if you'd like to what you've heard to subscribe and listen b.b.c. Sounds. That you still. Miss c.b.c. 5. 5 o'clock with the b.b.c. News on 5 Live. Today Jeremy Corbin's clarified his position on the future referendum I would have dropped as Prime Minister if I am at the time a neutral stance so that I can credibly carry out the results of that to bring our communities and country together rather than continuing an endless debate about the e.u. And breaks it this will be a trade deal with Europe or remaining in the that will be the choice that we put before the British people within 6 months the Labor leader was responding to questions during a question time special which also saw Boris Johnson quizzed on n.h.s. Spending and trust in politics Jo Swinson denied that the Lib Dems see leave voters as stupid with their plan to cancel breaks if they get into Downing Street he's lived them candidates if we were to go from 20 in peace to $326.00 M.P.'s that in itself is a mandate for that policy but she also said that we are still committed. To the policy that we've also always committed to in the event of an organ a majority of a 2nd referendum where we would back remain Meanwhile the s.n.p.
