Low skilled workers as they've been called but for him they are vital carers for some of his students the whole issue of immigration is complex but it seems to me the starting point is very simple you start from a point of what does the country needs before you start to build an immigration policy quite clearly the country needs individuals working in the care sector. The Smalling. 80 minutes to 7 this would have been 77 today. What a legend What a talent George Harrison. Guitarist vocalist with the Beatles had some pretty decent success as a solo artist a lot this one was his life. I News nationally internationally today Harvey Weinstein once Hollywood's most powerful man has been fined guilty in the sex assault case that spurred the me to movement he was once described as the king of Hollywood vast produced a raft of Oscar winning movie he has neither been fined guilty of charges of 3rd degree rape and a criminal sexual acts in the 1st degree he was acquitted of the most serious charges against him of predatory sexual assault and 1st degree rape but he still faces a lengthy prison sentence that's got more on this from Ginger Adams Otis from the New York Daily News who joins us this morning on the program Good Morning Ginger thanks very much for joining us what's the reaction then stateside to this verdict it's quite quite extraordinary really this was a very difficult case to prosecute and it was really kind of up in the air all the way through the 5 days of jury deliberations some kind of a hint on Friday that they were close to some sort of a decision but it still it up late was unclear which way it would come down and so of course when it did come down with 2 guilty verdicts on Monday it was kind of and ammonium at the courthouse really everyone was in shock including Harvey Weinstein who said to his lawyer 3 times but I'm innocent I'm innocent this can't happen in America. And he was acquitted of the most serious charges against him so one of his accusers said today. There's actually quite a lot of celebration isn't what we're right word but I think vindication perhaps could be the correct word there are 6 women who came forward to testify against Harvey Weinstein at the trial and it was extraordinarily difficult that the case had no forensic evidence it had no physical evidence it really rested on their credibility it was motional and very charged atmosphere of the whole time and they really did carry the day forward and there's also a feeling of vindication of this very powerful man as you alluded to who really had his whole industry on lockdown for decades because there's more than 80 women and these claims spanned from the ninety's on forward mean it's quite a length of time it's across countries even and there was nary a peep from anybody in protest even though this was apparently at least in some circles one of the worst kept secrets of Hollywood So a real sense of this hopefully will never happen again to this extent and hopefully other women who are in cases where things are not as 100 percent clear cut as they would like around sexual assault and rape now they know they can make their case to and they can be heard by the jury and this Mitsu movement has grown and grown and grown so what's the feeling with the message behind this case not. I think it's as I said that the underlying message really is one of of empowerment on these kinds of cases where women have to come forward in and put forward a narrative they have to put lay bare kind of a story where there isn't the things are not nice and tidy the women in this case Mimi Haley and Jessica man had to testify about how they'd had actual consensual relationships with Harvey Weinstein before and after their results and the defense team really pick them apart over that and they had to they had to really stand up there kind of look at the jury in the eye multiple times stretching over days and just say just because we had some kind of consensual relationship does not mean that I was not raped not every time was consensual or not every time you know it was something that I wanted to have happen and that's it's an extremely difficult narrative for people to hear and they had to really trust that the jury would get the nuances of it and in this case the they did and those 2 charges did stick to Harvey Weinstein. We've seen pictures of over the last few weeks of him aren't Co on a frame he has not been found guilty on a Sunday night in hospital. He is yes so there was about 20 minutes that passed between when the verdict came down and when the correction officers the bailiffs for lack of a better route came to physically get him and they had to cut his hands so he couldn't walk out with the walker is the 1st time really in months that anybody had seen it in without that and he was on route to Rikers Island which is our jail system and he was going in an ambulance because he was going to be taken to the infirmary there but on the way it rerouted him brought him to Manhattan hospital which has a prison ward so he's in prison ward of the hospital still very much in the jail systems custody but he had high blood pressure and heart palpitations so as a precaution they've kept him there it's still not clear if he's being held overnight still in the wee hours here or if he'll be brought to wreckers island in the morning Ginger thank you very much for joining us this morning on the program Ginger Adams Otis from the New York Daily News said with reaction to that cold case then if you're just waking up this morning I have hearing that Harvey Weinstein wants Hollywood's most powerful man has been found guilty in a sex assault case that spurred the me to movements have found guilty of charges a 3rd to be ripe on a criminal sexual act in the 1st degree he will face a lengthy prison sentence.
