New Castle essential northeast travel. Good afternoon welcome to the program it is Friday last week one of those weeks wasn't this week thank goodness it's Friday I think it's a day that there were over all of the day's news from the what's been happening in the in southwest France a developing story this afternoon terror attack at a supermarket to something which you can see over the weekend which is the most well most unusual displays made out of body parts so all of that to come between now and 530 when we start this evening with a huge story that broke this morning about plans for an open cast mine. Near Drew Ridge Bay in the Thumble and which have been rejected by the government now the scheme was met with strong opposition a story we've been following for a while here on B.B.C. Council but the company behind it said it would bring jobs investment to the area Jeff Brown has more for us back in $26.00 day Northumberland County Council granted permission for the bank's group to extract coal sandstone and fire clay from this site at high thought until at least the late 2020 S in 2017 the plans went to a public inquiry but this morning Sajid Javid the secretary of state for housing communities and local government announced the scheme won't go ahead A spokesman said Mr jabbered had considered all the evidence heard at the public inquiry together with the recommendations of the planning inspector and that his decision took account of all material considerations including the potential environmental impacts of the scheme. Bank said the mine would have employed 100 people bringing new investment into the local economy it had wanted to mine up to 3000000 tons of coal Starting Over the next 7 years on a site spanning 2 $150.00 hacked S. It also promised to create better wildlife habitats and public open spaces once it had finished. But there was strong opposition Campaigners said the coastline would be desecrated by the plans and that it would destroy tourism and create noise dust and pollution a petition with $20000.00 signatures was presented to the government and the Smalling Mr Javid had the final say well Dr Lawrence runs the drift cafe next to the bay he was one of those who campaigned against the plans. Has been a long ready ready hard battle ready ready. It is made the right decision do you think this is it or A is still. Cautious about all the celebration no not cautious at all do you mean in respect in the respect that there could be around to to this and another campaign from the people who want mine there I don't think the . Cost will be too. And also. Take a long time to get through a 2nd ground if you are. For time will be running ready now using British coal and British power stations of always being confident. Ready ready when this case I thought it was such a bad choice of the banks to go for an open cast mine is fantastic. Tourism is absolutely. And this. Is one of the key ready target areas in Northumberland tourism and so the future is bright enough for jobs and contribution to the local economy Duncan Lawrence from the drift cafe interest by speaking to our future. Earlier well this afternoon the banks' group says it demonstrates the government would prefer to source coal from Russia or the U.S. Rather than support substantial investment and job creation plans in our region said days you'll see Rebecca O'Neill join us in the B.B.C.'s new castle revealed you'll see. Just on 7 minutes past 4 when I will swear the day a series of attacks have taken place in southwest France culminating in hostages being held by ago men at a supermarket now full people are reported to have been killed including the gunman who's been shot dead by security forces it's understood it claimed allegiance to the it's gone mixtape to crip it's also a marriage that a police officer swapped himself for one of the hostages as Simon Jones reports another terror attack in France shots were fired and hostages taken at the supermarket. It prompted a huge police response led by counter-terror officers security forces surrounded the supermarket a police officer exchanged himself for a hostage after a standoff the gunman was shot dead the French president at the E.U. Summit was kept up to date with developments it is in the terms of tackling. The police and in particular the seldom he should intervene in a very coordinated manner after what who's 1st an attack against police officers. Please allow me to express our support to all of those. Addressing the situation the gunman is believed to have killed and wounded his victims in 3 separate incidents which began in caucus on 15 minutes drive from TAB early the he went into the supermarket and he fired had killed 2 people at that moment immediately. Into beaned and organized the escape of the people who were there the officer who was with those men voluntarily swapped himself for a hostage of a terrorist then let go Had he stayed with him the terrorist fired and forces intervened and brought down the terrorist reports say the gunman was believed to be Moroccan and had pledged allegiance to the so-called Islamic State group the French interior minister said he was known to authorize his for petty crimes but not considered to be an Islamist threat and I was Simon Jones reporting. It's coming up on at 10 past a phone at the government's again insisted that there's no security risk to British passports being made in France rather than on Tyneside to the route which currently produces Britain's Burgundy passports on the team valiant Gates had claimed yesterday that the 500000000 pound contract for the new ones will be made in friends or a phase it could put jobs at risk here in the northeast well the out of counter and spoke on behalf of the government in the House of Lords E.U. Member states are bound by the same procurement growth however contracts do not need to be put out tender where services can be obtained from a state owned company some countries therefore do have a state owned passbook printing operation however in the United Kingdom we have not had the state and passing passport printing facility since the 990 S. The printing plant passports overseas presents new security concerns but Labor has later in the Lords been a Smith wasn't satisfied with the. Other European countries have states and companies is because because of the concerns of around security and it seems to most responsible decision other countries are producing the possible at home we have taken away from a company Council excellent service to this country and there's a risk losing jobs in this country for company losing a flagship contract so in response to that the Isle of kowtowed so to reassure the low it's about the security issue 20 percent of these plant passports are already. Manufactured overseas. Loads as far as the security issue is concerned under this new contract passport will continue to be personalized with a passport holders personal details such as name and photograph in the United Kingdom this will ensure that no personal data will leave the United Kingdom. Well as well it's been discussed in the law that sending out a number of listeners hangry David used to work it to the roof and rung us here B.B.C. Newcastle when he had the news it came as no surprise because when I've seen over the last few days the surrender in my eyes the British fashion industry but passport wise a government spokesman was on the radio this morning on the B.B.C. Stating that they are procurement rules A new rules well this is May is time the line here because in France they insist that French property are printed in front they don't put their work out to tender they insist for security reasons French passports are printed in their country so all of that misses me as well why don't you do that as well I suppose you could say on this one the Delarue put a bid in the French company put a bid in and the French company were cheaper than down the room and it's it's just business is not what price security it's the French think it's a item of national security why doesn't Mrs May How do you think your former colleagues will be feeling well I asked a lot of my former colleagues of a pretty disappointed and I think we'll be feeling betrayed by the British government that's David who used to work at the Lorraine Well the M.P. For blatantly is twist is been visiting the passport manufacturer in Kate said today in killings of snap Gaston Ian Lee is how did the physical today then. Well the visit went really well but it was a shame that it was necessary for me to go on a day after we'd heard that the contract might not be you know won't be with Hillary in the future here on the train Danny so what workers say into today then. Well they're all really concerned for the future you know they're concerned about their job but they're also really proud of the work they do in delivering high quality security assured passports for the British government and doing that well and and so they feel really hurt and disappointed that the contract isn't going to be with them in the future but this contract does run until $21000.00 but from your talks with the with the company workers and bosses there today all the genuine concerns that we could be looking at job losses here oh yes there are genuine concerns maybe not next month next year but but inevitably if the work goes unless the company can find replacement work quickly then there will be job losses and it's no good the government saying well actually be 7000 new jobs in Fareham that's not a lot of good to have to us here in the northeast you know we need those high quality good jobs in the Northeast we've heard a lot today in yesterday as well about concerns for safety around this process go into France and not be in M. Based it a British company but security check surely lie with you passport agencies when you apply in the do the checks only in the background checks which which is done in this country so if where you know talking about the making of the passport here which is the bit posed passport agency or the Security Council is maybe just a bit of a red herring. Oh no definitely not and if you know if like me you've been able to see what goes on it seems very you know just how security conscious people are look it's not just about checking people out through the past for you know the passport agency it's about making sure that the data is transferred security from one place to another that is correctly matched with the right passport and that frankly passports don't go astray because they are valuable documents and this isn't the you've seen happen in Gates of the day yes that's right and I've seen it previously as well so I know how how conscientious The staff are about making sure that not only that they hit the target but actually they hit the quality standards as well it's really important for us what's your next move going to be then. Well I'm going to be continuing to press the government on this issue I'll be raising the issue at every opportunity to my county Palm and I've asked for a meeting urgently with on the road on the prime minister and my office the following that to see if we can get those quickly as possible on really supporting staff and the trade union you know right in trying to keep these jobs here in the Northeast thank you very much for your time they soft and that's the M.P. For blade and Liz twist that still to come there's been progress in the BRICs it talks today with the latest next stop a full 15 our top stories the company that's been given the go ahead to open a new coal mine on the north coast which is now being blocked by the government is called a absolutely perverse decision a series of attacks have taken place in southwest France ending with hostages being held by a gunman at a supermarket 4 people have been killed including the gunman and the government's again insisted there is no security risk to British passports be made in France rather than on Tyneside. Maybe some patchy light rain or drizzle around overnight and the drizzle close tomorrow and really not a bad day maybe a shower there will be some sunshine atop of 10 tomorrow and that's 55 night. But he's done that for a Friday you should the lights look at the eye wall the Western bypass southbound is queuing from Gosford Park to Cannes and Bastille slow just after Metra center 3 Dunston awaited seen ballet north on reason slow as well from done stand up to swell well plane fly over and I'd say that's pretty solid northbound just have to back with us to tell that hang up the crowd incident the more fun round about sound but also solid and how we stand all the way down into the road works selling on the way towards the tunnel. Through Killingworth long vents of the Crossroads is at the crossroads in central Gosford as well in out of Newcastle had a busy on the just good road not much of a queue on the central motorway get of course always slow on the time for H. I come off the north and another to a 167 it's a bit heavy There's also keeps coming back in and calculate lights on the pontoon road be the. Busy either side of Denton Byrd so wards and you castle. 69 album west road is busy as well with the usual delays from Gateshead already pretty heavy on the fighting bypass down to the Hugh with roundabout heavy in out on the door on road around low felt that salt water park has been quite busy runway aside today coming out of some wind towards the Queen Alexandra bridge and also the WE about bridge some plays out on the door. And chest road and laser washing so both ways on the Sunderland highway. Trains could be a 45 minute delay from King's Cross anything else happening give you a 1. 9. To morrow morning from 9 here on B.B.C. Newcastle with tales from Thailand something exotic and yet what if you see that surprised you on your travels now and know when it comes to see you if she's asking a question like that it means she's got a story face yet so make tomorrow from 9 B.B.C. News. Travel. News What could it be ladyboys Anyway it's been its symbolism so shambolic don't know it's a symbolic road to brag said the 27 member states have signed off both the details of the so-called transition period and agree to officially move to talks on trade only some months ago and so an initial deal is expected to be reached Has enough been done to keep the process on track apical reported George Russell joins us now Georgy Hello. Hello what are today's developments actually main them for the BRICS that process. Well I think the reason why we're calling it a symbolic days because we're finally now thanks to the 27 E.U. Member states signing off these guidelines moving on to talk about how Britain will trade with the E.U. After breakfast in March next year and from the very beginning Britain wants to talk about the details of this but the E.U. Blocked us saying we want to talk about the divorce Bill settlement 1st you know pay your bills etc So the British government is thrilled to finally be moving on to talk about trade and security not least because they feel that only by thrashing through the arguments we start to come to what reason may calls workable solutions on issues like the Northern Ireland border so she was very please coming back from Brussels today to know that the 27 member states have given the green light for this 2nd phase of negotiations we will now be sitting down and determining that it's workable solutions for Northern Ireland but also for our future security partnership and economic partnership and I believe this is in the best interests of both the U.K. And the E.U. So what the E.U. Has put on the table today is a 7 page document describing how it sees the E.U. And Britain working together in the future after Breck's it and they've divided up into 4 areas how our relationship will work with regards to trade with regards to our security our defense and then a lot of others lumped together transport education etc and they talked about how they really want this working relation to be as close as possible but before and there were lots of smiles and general feeling that we'd get we're getting somewhere Michel Barnier the chief Brecht's negotiator even kissed trees in May on the hand when he greeted her but you know let's not get carried away whilst these We've got the 7 pages the E.U. Is absolutely not budging on its red lines and it was saying whilst they'd love a really deep close trading relationship if the U.K. Is not budging either on its insistence on coming out of the single market in the. Customs Union that they can expect too much leeway from the E.U. Either so whilst there's a real sense of relief today that the danger of a cliff edge in March next year without any kind of transition seems to have receded we're still talking quite broad brush here it's very easy to agree on timetables but now we've got to get down to the absolute detail of how these 2 blocs are going to work together the thorny issues like Northern Ireland and there's ANY 7 many months in which to do it so it's going to get very complex from here on in. Georgie thank you for that would of course keep you updated in there and it's been happening joy Russell political reporter. Joining conversation with a B.B.C. . It's just gone 20 past full kit often in today's North East on B.B.C. Council radio for the north east some of them are about corneal with you until half past 5 tonight now an M.P.'s husband has strenuously denied being a paper traitor of elder abuse claiming he's the victim of a vendetta a council is also being told to chip a in compensation for failing to allow him to defend himself properly B.B.C. New council's political reporter focus he was and how small Simon buck is the husband of South Shields Labor M.P. Emma little book and her parliamentary assistant in 2014 when working as a carer for elderly people Mr book was accused of neglect but claimed he wasn't given a proper opportunity to defend himself during a safeguarding investigation by South Tyneside council a Local Government Ombudsman report out today agreed that because of this Mr Burke had been the victim of injustice and ordered the council to pay him $400.00 pounds in compensation The report also states that an independent social worker asked to examine the case concluded there was no evidence abuse or taken place over the alleged failure to chain. An elderly man's incontinence pad South Tyneside council however maintains its safeguarding review found there had been neglect amounting to the abuse of an elderly man and the council says it's concerned it's now being asked to make a payment to what it calls a perpetrator of elder abuse Mr Bucket said accusations of abuse against him are entirely fictitious he's also stated that the Ombudsman is investigation vindicates him the council has conducted a vendetta against him and that the process that led to him losing his job over the accusations was in no way fair or just B.B.C. The council's political reporter at figures he was in this week only. Breakfasts on the 10th anniversary of the said Bobby Robson Foundation we heard from a T L C Robson one day find a cure and that's what. This is an expert in more school. Breakfast. That means I have a great weekend I'll catch you next week when you wake up B.B.C. New Castle revealed to the northeast sorry what did he just say you know how they could have been saying anything and it's like an extended remakes of that police sits in the eighty's when you do do do today. And that was great now do exhibition opens this week weekend to Newcastle's great north museum which explores the human heart but what makes this exhibition a bit unusual is that many think it works on display were inspired by real patients with congenital heart conditions including some from Newcastle's Freeman Hospital It opens tomorrow but I got a preview tour in the company of the artists I feel light and by engineer Giovanni 1000000000 yo who both met when they were working a Great Ormond Street Hospital we just met discussing. People perceive disease how people look at disease and talk about it and we started exploring ways of seeing in techniques like 3 D. Printing that I was working on so we started working with a group of patients and one to one with some of them so for this exhibition is over 3 rooms but the room we're in at the moment there are number of 3 D. Representation of parts of patients and they're all in Belle jars I mean where did you get this idea from I was looking for a way of containing the hearts and also representing them is very precious objects they're very fragile the actual 3 D. Printed heart is made from a powder and they can be broken quite easily when you approached patients or the hospital inside actually want to use an M.R.I. Scan and turn it into what we see behind in the exhibition what do people think I think people are fascinated the 1st model that Giovanni printed for me was I'd been working with a mother who Stuart who was born with a condition called hypo plastic left heart syndrome and the mother said I'd be really curious to see my daughter's heart and Giovanni was able to print it it's a little tiny model and it's of a 3 month old babies heart and when we printed it and I went and presented it to her at the bedside she just said I feel like I'm holding snow in my hands this beautiful fragile foam and what was really interesting within the next minute she showed the nurse and then started talking about it medically and so what we have in the exhibition is this sort of translation of poetry but also Metson and how those 2 forms are held together and the models actually they're white they're quite exquisite they look a bit like coral they not gory that or anything that you'd seen a. Quite and there's a I think they allowed the audience to see something in quite a unique way most people were just almost taken aback and I think that in the same way when I would have had my own heart model there is this desire that you want to put it back in your chest and you can't quite believe that this large object gets you sort of go oh to start belong in that. Exhibition is a success that people come and see this because it is actually fascinating thank you both so much for talking to us thank you and that exhibition the heart of the matter opens tomorrow and runs into some of the 6 maybe 4 touring venues in Bristol to say absolutely fascinating if you are it sounds squeamish you know but it's not at all it's was very very very moving. In the stories behind them so yeah going to look wonderful coming up on half past 4 we get the headlines weather and traffic for you shortly but 1st up remember this is a really exciting option sheet music dance light shows. Culture and I think people are realizing what a great cultural mix some of us started to see the bridge back making its way right across the river. And yeah the city Sunderland City of Culture it really captured the imagination of the Northeast in B.C. Because I was proud to be part of it if feels like forever ago since I went on that culture to where last October it was but what a great week it was as well checking out all the cities that were up against Sunderland and unfortunately just before Christmas we did find out that Sunderland lost out to Coventry to be named City of Culture of a 2021 but now some of the people behind that bit and the city itself all keen to try and keep the momentum of the enthusiasm around Sunderland go in. A 60000000 pound program called Sunderland 247 has been announced today which it says will transform the cultural life of the city so we've been getting a bit more about this Keith Marin is the chief executive of something and culture the whole City of Culture process was such an amazing experience for Sunderland and for the people of Sunland apart from the final result of recently in that what it really did was it raised our profile on a national stage and also galvanized everybody in the city behind a single idea and one can just settled on all and we looked at the plans that we put together for the bid we realized that actually we would raise a lot of money during that process we could still do a lot of that stuff but rather than shoehorning it all into a single year what we've tried to do is look at can we deliver all of the same benefits that we thought we could deliver through City of Culture over a 7 year period all the way through the bidding process actually we were always really clear that this was never about a single year it was about change in Sunderland forever it was about having a really important impact on the city both physically but also in terms of engaging as many people as we can and also really shouting about all the amazing things that someone has to offer a lot of things the as I say we looked at we realized we'd already started to put the money in place for them so a lot of that's to do with new physical developments So today we're opening a new art gallery in the Northern Calif contemporary art which used to be in a different place in Sunland and we've opened in a completely new space within the national glass and but we're also later in the summer going to be starting work on a new auditorium a brand new space for theater for dance for music which is part of the fire station development and that will open in 29 so that you can see already there's millions of pounds of new facilities were also working in the city council who are refurbishing helping Castle new heritage attraction but also you'll start to see a lot lots of more of the kind of big outdoor spectacular events people might remember when we launched the 1st phase the fire station a big outdoor event called Fire flight thousands of people came out to see that at the end of last year with one of. Amazing event to accompany the visit the tall ships I mean tall ships is a brilliant opportunity for Sunderland and was always part of our plans of saying here's a really great way to welcome people some do and so we got a lot of really interesting cultural activity people artists from all over the world artist from Sunderland as well who are going to be doing things around and out of vent to make sure that people really understand that sometimes a vibrant and interesting place to keep Marin there from Sunderland culture before 5 rugby players who've got a big game at St James's Park Yes you did hear on that one it's happening tomorrow we'll tell you more very shortly. 31 headlines tonight the company that's been given the go ahead to open a new coal mine on the Northumberland coast which is now being blocked by the government has called it an absolutely perverse decision the bank's group was given permission last year by Northumberland County Council to extract $3000000.00 tonnes of coal but the community secretary has now refused planning permission for the plan to dredge Bay with considerations including the potential impact on the environment the group says it demonstrates the government prefers a sole skull from Russia or the US rather than support substantial investment and job creation plans in our region Duncan Lawrence runs the drift cafe next to the bay and he's campaigned against these proposals fearing a negative effect on visit a number of cities fantastic the area tourism ready is absolutely. And ready this area and that's one of the key ready target areas in Northumberland tourism and so the future is bright in that respect. For jobs and contribution to the local economy a series of attacks has taken place in southwest France culminating in hostages being held by a gunman in a supermarket 4 people are reported being killed including the gunman who's been shot dead by security forces it's understood he kind of legions to the Islamic state group it's also my. That a police officer swap himself one of the hostages a teenager Iraqi asylum seeker who set off a bomb on an underground train a passenger train in southwest London last year has been jailed for a minimum of 34 years the device created by her son only partially detonated but 51 people were injured a man's got life threatening injuries after he was attacked outside a Sunderland church the police were called to the car park of Hope House Community Church on hand and Road at around 1045 this morning a 40 year old man was involved in an altercation with 2 other men who fled the scene when officers arrived the injured man was transferred to hospital by ambulance and the decision to have post passports being made in France rather than get said has gone to the House of Lords now the firm Tillery which currently produces Britain's Burgundy passports has to appeal a decision to award a $490000000.00 pound contract to Franco Dutch firm the Earl of Courtown for the government repeat of the claim to the laws that there are no security issues with a passport being made overseas. Thank you good afternoon former Sunderland midfielder Jordan Henderson has been describing his desire to captain England at the World Cup The 27 year old will skipper the team tonight when they face the Netherlands in a friendly. Position in terms of a long time now 1st live a pose for the 21 sitting in the afternoon for a large part of me career really but at the same time there are the people who agree leaders and that's certainly your bit the manager what he feels is right resolute the team comes to him in the summer and then kick off at $745.00 in Amsterdam another former Sunderland player Jordan Pickford will be in goal and the sun striker Joel sorrow has scored twice for Sweden's Under 20 one's the SAF to noon in their 3 no win over Turkey Newcastle's Matt Richie and Sons Bryan obviate or could face each other this evening when Scotland host Costa Rica here in Clark meanwhile is with the Republic of Ireland. He kickoff at $530.00 a beer that's a friendly you know I took a I think it's a few fresh slate faces in the squad which would be nice to say and yeah I'm sure the manager wants to want to say everyone join them in the lead up to the game in training and and the guy. Who can just got a good performance. Newcastle goalkeeper Rob Elliot's also part of the island squad Alexander Micha virtues on loan from United to follow him is with who host Morocco the votes and has called on the northeast football fans to pack the International Stadium for Gates said F.A. Hello good afternoon welcome to the show Jonathan Morel and Rebecca until half past 5 tonight I'm going to talk because history will be made for the Newcastle folk and they say Ken they're playing a whole much in the Rugby Union Premiership at St James's Park for the food time more than 27000 tickets have already sold the Falcons will set a new home attendance record more than doubling the previous one from 1998 and the Council currently 4th in the table of playing Northampton say it's 5 30 pm tomorrow and it is life here on B.B.C. Council and the man at the heart of organizing the game being marketed as the big one is make COLGAN The council Falcons commercial director it's just simply about creating a big event off the back of which we can try and grow the sport in the area so the big one primarily it's about Falcon's precincts but we've also got 2 universities Newcastle Northumbria plan the current rise and we've got the biggest festival every Premiership will be history with $195.00 junior teams on the morning of Kingston part and coming down here and we've got a farm outside as well so it's a full day of rugby famed entertainment whether you're a participant or a spectator and we just want really to grow the profile a great sport whereas Mick said there the annual match between Northumbria Newcastle University is being played to whet the appetite of the crowd at St James's Park you can see university captain down not an Northumbria as Harry popped into Sears now that's trying to be friendly No no scrapping what was the mood like among your respective teams when you found out that this scam was going to be played at suggestions Park I think Newcastle You know it's just excitement really. Northumbria play in a league above us and it's just seen as really an opportunity for us it's a big stage always the biggest in the northeast so we thought you know let's take our exams and really just enjoy actually embrace the opportunity rather than necessarily I mean the result will look after itself but 1st and foremost it's actually enjoy and. What was your response when you found that you can apply this match in such a massive arena Well initially obviously really excited we've been a bit busy focusing on the superbly. And now that some of that's not the way we're going to focus on this weekend we've got a there's a to use game today and obviously Good luck to those boys so a special playing at Newcastle University even as a fresher you know you quickly realise what a big deal it is so you're just really excited about tomorrow yet for those that don't know I mean how fiercely contested is this game between the 2 universities there's a lot on the line north these bragging rights that's for sure. So I mean we got the the rub of the Green lost last year and start the season at Kingston park so we're hoping for much the same as as I say another years bragging rights or do a lot for us and yeah Harry I'll do my talking a picture I think. So right so obviously that was already the this is this sort of shades of Alex Ferguson this is really different than it was you know I want all of it and all that but seriously I mean you know obviously you know you talk to your own teams but I don't know how are you confident going into tomorrow's going I think we've got a couple of tough games recently we made the playoffs to get into the Super League and 40 loss to Cardiff but both really strong performance is so I think that should give us confidence they're obviously a really strong side and I'd say that we're probably underdogs going into this one they've been on the back of a great 4 but I love being an underdog you know will embrace it and see how we go so you feel like that you look at the top dog an area I think we go at every game confident. I mean we came 2nd in the league closely by 3 points pretty much and obviously we have to be confident going into every game. I want to say that we're you know the favorites but we'll just see how it goes tomorrow yeah you know what and what are your thoughts about actually being in front of such a massive crowd. That had something extra to it as well as a fact it's an important game for you to close I mean it certainly gives an atmosphere to. Certainly fairly hostile last year at Kingston park you know both universities turned out in force. I imagine will be much much much less tomorrow we'll have another big crowd hopefully plenty of get down to watch the game for the Falcons as well and I think it will just add to the occasion rode to the enjoyment of it and any nerves you know in front of a crowd that big hairy I don't think so I mean. Played in front of big crowds all the season and it's just adds another element to the game another element to the rivalry sure will be a lot of university students support both teams so hopefully just be a good game for everyone it's a Darby don't there can I ask the success of the Falcons and does that help you know ne university for rugby teams you know does that bring in and help students choose to come here because they know they can watch top level rugby union regularly yeah definitely I think so. Obviously it focuses student tickets available in certain weeks and stuff like that and there's definitely a big amount of boys I go down and there's some of our lads involved with the Falcons Academy and a league stuff like that and you see all over the news now in New Castle and fans are starting to really get behind the Falcons and it's starting to blossom I'll be honest with you I've never be a rugby girl sell it to me why should I love rugby I think the physicality of it there are just. Physical there's lots of boys or um and small shorts as well the ladies are but. I think there's something in it for everyone fellas and I mean it's a game I think just about everyone but the novice or the expert can go along and really enjoy it so wonderful thank you very much to learn about you know what you don't about. But there's I'm going to think it was about. Actually other it you know 30 and the other. Tickets left so low to take it. Like to lay you our backs and anybody else who might want to say that the physicality of the game or boys in shorts I think it's more of an enchantress part down not from Newcastle University and her letter from Northumbria diversity May the best team win and many thanks for being with us this afternoon on B.B.C. Newcastle Now still to come that we'll meet at the 4 year old from Sunderland he's quick thinking has saved her mom's life but now look at the headlines just after a quarter to 5 stories the south and in the company that's been given the go ahead to open a new coal mine at the Northumberland coast which is now being blocked by the government has called it an absolutely perverse decision a series of attacks has taken place in southwest France ending with hostages being held by a gunman at a supermarket 4 people have been killed including the gunman and the government has again insisted there's no security risk to British passports being made in France rather than on Tyneside whether for the saving crowd. That will clear 1st thing tomorrow morning they're not a bad day for the rugby tomorrow there will be sunshine maybe an isolated shower but mild 10 Celsius is the top tomorrow and that's 50 found height. We can only have an accident in somebody's. Travel. I would been told that the accident incident could be there a while full well road is a close up from Port of L.O.L. a New job the rounds away Assad has been quite heavy today coming out of the city on to both the way about the bridge and out on to the Queen Alexandra bridge looking a busy towards a queue about half way down. The road quite busy also on the Duran road but halfway down the road and further out as you approach the A 19 heading said I don't see itself as in the usual areas southbound from how he stared into the road works so really quite a he was well heading up to the Spine road it's all the way from BUCKWORTH up to the ball from roundabouts a one looks pretty slow as well west and bypass southbound from Gosford Park to come to bar not around Canton bar also slow thank you pass the Metro Center south bands from Metro sense all the way to Team Valley Angel house looking slow fairly standard delays elsewhere but of a queue for me again coming into Gosforth from the A want to Gosford Park some traffic take the chances through gas for 3 new casserole going down the aisle once that's getting quite heavy now the Great North Road still busy. Road coming out of new castles on the Q central to the time bridge leaving Gateshead still heavy on the founding bypass on the direct and surly building it now can buy from lovely Hill the gates of road heading into Sunnyside the metro is OK but version trains East Coast could be a 30 minute delay if you spot something let me know I want I want to double 3 double to double 9 isolative on Sunday James Alfie an hour back at breakfast on Monday morning I'll be meeting the Master Chef contestant from gate said who serve the judges a chicken parm of your did you say that I didn't say you know the really interesting thing was that what's his name great thing he was sort of saying yes to the owner in front of the sound of this but then tried and that's let me look at all going to hear that yeah Monday morning when you wake up B.B.C. News has some essential ne travel. Coming up on $10.00 to $5.00 a good evening now just how crucial is the a car you perhaps depend on it to get around and you might even say that you'd be lost without it well for a kid to sleep he was 20. 9 and from North Tyneside it's even more important than that to him kid his house cerebral palsy works full time but without his car he says it would be impossible for him to make it into the office he's been told by the Department for Work and Pensions that he has to hand back his specially adapted car in just a month's time but hey this is just one of thousands of people who are being reassessed as the disability living allowance system is replaced with a new benefit called Pay or Personal Independence Payment now under the old system kit as was granted the multiple of the allowance in definitely our reporter Nicky Hornby met him at his home in West allotment to find out just how is disability affects him every day a need at least an hour in the morning takes me quite a while to physically get rest just remind me what you physical problem is so palsy it's a specific type which is only physical It affects all of my lower limbs basically swelling from the waist down getting round the house I have to hold onto a lot of things like door frames going down stairs is a lot more difficult coming up and it's just one step at a time really very stiff movement I've got a hold on the bannister from last go at it when you just lose balance and for 4. Now you don't live far from it and no no it's about 56 minute drive. There's a lot to do with your hands you really have to like focus on you know your driving to make sure that you you know are dangerous anyone else on the road while you're doing those sort of things. We're just going into the Cobalt which is a business park just themselves linked to the same group take each morning to work for 8 in the Cobalt 14 is welding because on itself it's quite a few disabled bays. So very quick an ACOA but could you walk it's usually about a 20 minute walk and for me personally that's it's going to be at least 35 minutes in a morning when you've just got an open especially in the winter as it is now that's a very tiring journey. Actual physical steps are a heavy so by the time I've got to work I'm already extremely exhausted you moving from disability living allowance on to P.I.P.A. Personal Independence Payment What was the decision the weren't able to offer maybe award for pay and that was just basically down to the way myself scored and. From their perspective they believe I managed. More stairs So just how common are cases like that of Curtis washer Alexander is from Newcastle Citizens Advice She says her organization is dealing with tens of thousands of queries about the change from Disability Living Allowance to personal independence payments or pay patent Pena's payment is a completely new benefit which is based on a different set of criteria so you need a different kind of assessment and one of the problems of the assessment is in Curtis case it hasn't taken on the fact that he's managing very well and he's actually doing a lot of things on his own with support and has taken longer but I think he falls down on the criteria because he can do so much on his own Well the Department for Work and Pensions. Changes to support for disabled people in work all fair and all work in its 87 percent of Pip claimants say they're happy with their overall experience don't think create is deputy chairman for the conservatives in the thumb Blendon Tyne and Wear He says the government has helped get more disabled people into work we think that should be and work and they know it will work or not so when you have since we've come to her and trying to turn the people. Who are disabled as 4 or 10.9 percent that's done can create the deputy chairman for the conservatives in Northumberland and Tine and we are B.B.C. 2 goes behind the scenes of the N.H.S. During one of the most challenging winters on record never had it as bad as this before we don't know when we can start operating at them when they want to be in these jobs here that we. Don't we all know what led to the intervention by images process that made national headlines we are being asked to cancel any non-essential activity this is nearing on President levels this summer and the series. Hospital critically acclaimed series returns Monday night at 9 AM B.B.C. To $530.00 on this radio station he will be he was not. Products raise a razor with your. Support yes we can in a way that would total support and come up to me like what is an international weekend so no fixed if a New Castle or someone but some of their players will be featuring for their country so I will have a look through the internationals and ignorant of going to game tonight but do you really care to friendly away to the Netherlands in a way that you know they are preparing for the World Cup but. How interested are you at this stage in an England match let us know if you'll be watching or if you'll be taking in any of the other internationals over the next few days John Anderson and Gary Bennett here as usual for Friday night on Total Sport 191-232-6565 anything about Sunderland in Newcastle if you want to discuss as well to give them a ring and we'll continue to look ahead to our commentary matches tomorrow Gates said F.A. Trophy semifinal 2nd leg a game away from Wembley but they have to overturn a one goal deficit against Bromley and the big one it's in James's Park Newcastle Falcons as we've just been discussing up against Northampton Saints. Which is at $530.00 I will hear from the director of rugby Dean Richards and we've got our regular Friday night betting feature as well on total sport but lots of room for your calls tonight with their own battle after half life thank you we'll talk to them. Jim bottom of here with the weather very shortly but is it approaches 5 to 5 have a little listen to this it's a 4 year old girl from Sunderland he's been praised for a quick thinking after she saved and mom's life Emily dial 999 and cared for M M Louise when she had an epileptic fit. No. You're right next to. OK. So that's Emily from Sunderland there on the phone to a 999 call handler she also climbed onto a stool to let the ambulance paramedics into a house and paramedics say what Emily did could well have saved her mom's life and their ways still be Newcastle she's really impressed with our little girl just can't play for her car she was on the phone after listen to the phone call she was amazing she really has saved my life because in the ambulance on the way to hospital that Haven't of the seizure and most will let me talk so I would have hit it for that or have happened and believe witnessed that so it could have been a completely different. Richie to install for oh yes she's also wants to go to do in the. U.K. Expensive taste of a new one. And she deserves it she does well today Emily and Luisa being reunited with that core handler that she had to run an ambulance worker the quote was taken by Kerry Colbert she was really good she was really car. You know you'd never believe she was 4 years old she was amazing obviously you know you need to think more about how you asked the question. I asked Emily was I. Think about that question thing in December you know what I mean even She's 4 years old so trying to phrase it you know that child's. Understand what you're actually asking. So it's definitely more challenging. And the paramedic who helped Louise is Mark Jackson when we got here it was quite chaotic there was 2 bystanders who we want sure who they were and apparently they had money in the door and. They had actually been in the Have a look at the mom and and informed us straight away that the mom had forfeits while they've been with in the So we went in and obviously Emily was there on the floor with her mom looking after him and looking after the the 2 kids as well Mark Jackson the paramedic who helped Louise what I'm always amazed that when you hear those stories going on we've done stories about this before is obviously I mean you know really switched on or go but also the role of the coal handlers who have to weigh to those questions you know I mean she was asking you know was Mommy breathing or what kind of thing I mean that takes some skill to hard work but not only to get the information out of her but also to relay things she can be doing to help you know until the paramedics get there really lovely story well done to her. B.B.C. Newcastle Northeast weather and we can find out just what's in store for this weekend Jen bathrooms here for us it's not actually looking like too bad if we can we should see some decent amount of sunshine on Saturday and on Sunday as well but we do have some rather chilly nights ahead this afternoon we have seen one or 2 showers here and there but most of us about the dry day and it will stay that way as we head into this evening and overnight the coming fairly dry cleaner spells developing at 1st but then clouds building by tomorrow morning temperatures overnight down to around 2 or 3 degrees I think some parts of north from blood will see a frost to take us into Saturday morning Saturday then gets off to a cold dry lake and one of a cloudy starting may even see a little bit of hill folk here and there but as the day goes on we will see some sunshine developing the best of the sunshine the further west you will. It will get up to around 10 degrees Celsius that's 50 in Fahrenheit just a small risk of an isolated challenge on Saturday the clocks go forward as we go overnight into Sunday and then Sunday starts off on a cold no Once again most of us waking up to a frost on Sunday morning a dry Bryce cold start plenty of sunshine as we head through the day but eventually turning a little bit cloudy I think Sunday afternoon for the risk of one or 2 showers but a top temperature once again of around 10 degree Celsius there are signs that as we head through the middle part of next week things are going to be turning colder once again and we could see the return of some snow but there is quite a little bit of uncertainty at the moment so do stay tuned to the forecast over the next few days now if you have to hold the island you can cross next from 5 to 10 tonight thank you very much Jen.
