Cape Town – Insurance Claims Africa (ICA) says it believes businesses in the tourism and hospitality sector are a step closer to having their claims resolved fairly, as Santam abandoned most of its intended appeal to the Supreme Court of Appeal, save for the length of the indemnity period.
The Western Cape High Court in November found that the insurance company was liable to pay for business interruption losses due to the Covid-19 lockdown, ordering it to pay 18 months’ worth of losses to Ma-Afrika Hotels and Stellenbosch Kitchen.
