Top Democrats and Republicans say they're closer to a COVID-19 stimulus deal, and some hope for a breakthrough Wednesday

Top Democratic and Republican leaders met twice Tuesday to further talks on a COVID-19 relief bill. 
It was their first in-person meeting in months to discuss a new wave of federal spending, signaling the urgency of the US epidemic.
All emerged optimistic for a deal to appear soon, but they did not reveal details of any compromises — including the hot-button issues of direct payments to Americans and aid for state and local governments.
