Different anti-tobacco organisations on Thursday claimed that the measures proposed in the national budget for 2021-22, if implemented, would make tobacco products more affordable and increase tobacco-related deaths and other losses in Bangladesh.
In a joint statement issued immediately after the finance minister AHM Mustafa Kamal placed his budget proposals before the parliament, Progga and Anti-Tobacco Media Alliance said the budgetary measures would reduce the real prices of cigarettes and encourage the poor and the youth to get hooked on the deadly addiction of smoking.
