The defunct Florida State Defense Force was established during the World War II-era administration of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. It was deactivated in 1947. In recent years, various groups have sought its revival, and got their wish when Gov. Ron DeSantis announced he is seeking $3.5 million from the Legislature to bring it back.
