The African Continental Free Trade Agreement, a closer look at economies and challenges to watch
By Ntim Gyakari
Listen to article
The African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) is a trade pact signed by some member states of the African Union to liberalize trading amongst the countries involved. This means from 2021, trading amongst countries that signed the agreement will suffer nil restrictions and limitations. Any country under the agreement can sell and buy from any other country within the bloc without any form of quotas, administrative barriers, tariffs and other modes that make cross border trading burdensome. This is the new pathway for Africa, unionizing member states into a common trade market and trading environment.
