TEXANA READS: Lucien Flournoy helped define South Texas as we know it

Every now and then a person comes into a community or region and revitalizes it with his vision, patience, and leadership. Alice, Texas, was fortunate enough to have one of those charismatic and visionary leaders when Lucien Flournoy arrived in the South Texas hamlet in the early 20th century and transformed it, literally, into “The Hub of South Texas.”
For good measure he married an equally inspiring woman – Maxine Edmondson Flournoy – whose story and contributions to South Texas would equal or surpass those of her husband who earned the moniker “The Confederate” in a new biography written by longtime journalist John W.  Flores.
