Taipei, April 9 (CNA) The black howler and golden-headed lion tamarin, two primate species native to South America, have been brought to the Taipei Zoo for the very first time, the zoo said Friday.
The animals comprise two male golden-headed tamarins and three male black howlers.
As a member of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria, the Taipei Zoo said the monkeys were brought from Singapore Zoo on Wednesday through the European Endangered Species Programme (EEP).
Founded in 1985, the EEP places zoo animals so that there are as many unrelated pairs living together as possible, which maintains the genetic diversity of the species' populations.
