Assuming states follow through on their climate commitments but take no further action, natural habitats in the region will change and disappear entirely as palsas and permafrost melt, grass and shrubs will take over open landscapes, and animal species will become threatened if not completely extinct, says the Finnish Environment Institute (Syke).
