(Photo courtesy of SDSPPO) BUTUAN CITY - Police authorities have arrested the vice governor of Surigao del Sur and his wife for estafa charges. In a report Friday, the Surigao del Sur Police Provincial Office (SDSPPO) said that Vice Governor Librado Navarro, 64, and his wife Maylene, 47, were arrested by virtue of an arrest warrant issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 42 in Medina, Misamis Oriental. "They were arrested at around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 17 in San Andres, Barangay Maharlika, Bislig City," the SDSPPO report said. The arrest was carried out by the personnel of Bislig City police station and the 1st Company of the Surigao del Sur Police Provincial Mobile Force, the report added. No bail bond was recommended for the arrest of the vice governor and his wife, whose known residence is in Ericsson Subdivision, Poblacion, Bislig City. Police said the couple is now detained at the Bislig police station for proper disposition. Meanwhile, PRO-13 Director, Brig. Gen. Romeo Caramat Jr., said that Navarro's wife is a resigned Sangguniang Bayan member of the municipality of Talisayan in Misamis Oriental. In a separate press statement Friday, Caramat warned the public not to get involved in investment scams, emphasizing that "no such thing as groups or companies guaranteeing high returns on investment in a short period." He added that the Philippine National Police in Caraga has always warned citizens about investment scams. "The Caraga police will pursue and apprehend perpetrators regardless of your title, as long as you have culpability in our law," Caramat said. (PNA) }
