Sunderland win Papa John's Trophy

 
Lynden Gooch’s second-half strike sealed Sunderland’s first win at Wembley Stadium since 1973, as Tranmere Rovers were beaten in the Papa John’s Trophy Final. 
 
An evenly contested opening 45 yielded little in the way of clear-cut chances, with the respective goalkeepers, Lee Burge and Scott Davies, comfortable throughout much of the first period.
 
Otis Khan and Charlie Wyke both went close following the restart as the sides traded blows, but it remained goalless as the clocked ticked on. 
 
The opener arrived just before the hour mark, as Aiden McGeady drove forward and split the Tranmere Rovers defence in two.
