State, town drop mask mandate

Silver City Assistant Town Manager James Marshall said his phone hasn’t stopped ringing since the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s announcement Thursday that fully vaccinated individuals no longer need to wear face coverings in most situations.
Marshall said that both citizens and business owners are calling with two main questions about the revised rules.
“The first question is, ‘If I am vaccinated, do I have to wear a mask?’
“Businesses have the right to set their own policies,” Marshall said. “If a business chooses to require everyone to wear masks, they have that right; if they choose not to require masks — and if you’re vaccinated — you don’t have to wear one.
