State Rep. Drew Springer managed to overcome a challenger who drew nationwide attention this year for a seat in the Texas Senate.
Springer, who gathered 32,599 total votes, defeated Shelley Luther for the Texas Senate District 30 seat in a Dec. 19 runoff election, according to preliminary voter data from the Texas Secretary of State’s website. Luther gathered 25,146 votes. Fourteen counties, including a portion of Collin County, make up District 30.
Springer fills the former seat of Pat Fallon, who was elected to serve in Congress’ 4th Congressional District on Election Day, Nov. 3.
“[I am] honored that the citizens of Senate District 30 have entrusted me with this position,” Springer said in a statement shared on social media before nearly half of polling locations finished reporting. “Thank you to everyone who spent time knocking doors, making phone calls, and reaching out to their friends, family, and neighbors to encourage them to vote.”
