LEESBURG — A depression in front of the Venetian Center on State Road 44 has given drivers pause in recent weeks.
The Daily Commercial reached out to the Florida Department of Transportation, the agency responsible for repairing the road, to ask about the depression and if it poses any safety concerns.
Here’s what they told us:
It's not a sinkhole
The dip in the roadway isn't a sinkhole. It's a depression — a small localized area of the pavement sitting at a slightly lower elevation than the rest of the roadway.
It happened after road and sidewalk work was done
After previous road repairs were made to the area, it became depressed and the adjacent sidewalk began to crack. The FDOT began getting reports of some changes in the roadway.
