Small said the Timaru District Council had been really helpful by allowing the participants to use Caroline Bay for the protest.
Co-organiser of the South Canterbury protest, Jeremy Talbot, said the protest followed a huge amount of stress in the rural community, caused by Government regulations or proposed regulations including land and water reforms and land use rules.
Talbot said the new tax on high emission utes was the final straw.
Protests are also planned in more than 40 locations, from Kerikeri to Invercargill, and participants are encouraged to bring their dogs with them to make some noise, hence the name: ‘A Howl of a Protest’.
