A “supermoon” lit up the skies Monday night over Massachusetts. It’s a supermoon because it’s a full moon that is especially large, due to its close proximity to the earth on its elliptical orbit.
This supermoon, one of two on the calendar for 2021, is called a Pink Moon, getting its name from the creeping phlox, a pink springtime flower.
The moon rose over Graves Light Station in Winthrop on Monday evening.
