State wildlife biologists are concerned about a rabbit disease that is currently in Western states but has now also appeared in Florida.
The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources issued the following media release Tuesday.
COLUMBIA, S.C. (April 20, 2021) — Officials with the S.C. Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) are concerned about a rabbit disease that affects wild and domestic rabbits and is nearly always fatal. Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus-2 (RHDV2) is a highly contagious disease that affects all rabbits. Fortunately, humans are not susceptible to RHDV2, but they can inadvertently spread the virus.
