Council unanimously approved the speed hump for Sandy Lane and for city staff to work with the Village of Point Edward to also install a pedestrian crossing for the 40-kilometre-per-hour two-lane street.
The crossing would be where Sandy Lane and Alfred Street meet. Sandy Lane is in Sarnia; Alfred Street is in Point Edward.
Most vehicles in the area travel around 40 km/h, a city report noted, but one was flagged travelling 103 km/h on a Tuesday afternoon.
With significant pedestrian and vehicle traffic, calming measures are needed, the report said.
City council also voted for similar measures in the parking lots by Canatara Beach. Specifics weren’t identified.
