As we watch those photos together i want you to think about this in the midst of what is one of the worst health and Economic Crises ever america seems to be coming apart at the seams today its almost as if the coronavirus and the worst unemployment numbers in history were not enough you know now we have. In our nations largest cities exploding with rage interestingly enough its happening much in the same way that weve watched occur most recently in places like hong kong where protesters took to the streets. Destroyed public property and attacked Police Officers all in the name of justice and freedom interestingly enough our government here in america cheered those protesters on calling them Freedom Fighters lovers of liberty because they were pro democracy. Pro democracy while we criticize china for threatening to use its military against those protesters switch today as americans take to the streets and attack police and destroy property the same voices in our government who supported the hong kong protesters are calling american protesters thugs and i was actually in a president ial tweet. The white house is also suggesting the military may be sent in. I want you to stop for a moment and think about that eventuality that image in your head one that the whole world would see if this happens of the u. S. Sending in troops into the streets of americas largest cities to do battle to fight american citizens. How do we get to this point where is this leading us. This is the news with rick sanchez. Where we look for context and perspective that others may not see where we look at stories with a global focus because we do believe its time to do news again. Ok heres our list of the questions that youll be asking tomorrow what makes one protest good and another one bad and who gets to decide what classifies a protester as a patriot and another as a thug. How do we balance public order over the publics right to voice its anger. We welcome you to our special coverage of the chaos that is and suing in our country today we have assembled a panel to take us through this important conversation joining us now to tackle this issue facing our nation our ameesha cross Public Policy expert and cohost of watching the hawks ned ryan c. E. O. Of the conservative Nonprofit Group american majority Ronald Hampton former district of Columbia Police officer and shawn stone who is an author and hollywood filmmaker my thanks to all of you for being with us lets begin with the breaking news hot off the press as they would say this is from the Associated Press it says that the minneapolis Police Officer who was seen on video kneeling on the neck of george floyd has now been arrested the information that were getting is that he has been charged according to original sources you guys can correct me if i dont have this right because its just now being reported that he is going to be charged with manslaughter. I think at a time like this i should go to a Police Officer Ronald Hampton your thoughts on this arrest why it may have taken so long and if they have the right charge. Well i dont understand why his status alone because. As a rule individual get arrested saying to all these screens saying that with this. In terms of probable cause there was probable cause to arrest this officer. And even the individual school stand. On him to continue to do what is to mr so and into im. This manslaughter to me you know i mean i think he ought to be charged with homicide. Murder because thats exactly what hes doing this is a very a change and he is. He doesnt seem to doesnt seem to be concerned about what these dogs and people are bringing to his attention how hes hurting that man and cut it off this way but hes continuing to do what it is that he still ned ryan let me bring you into this i think the point is that he did it for some 4 to 7 to 8 minutes depending on how you count the moments with his knee on his neck doesnt that in and of itself preclude manslaughter and take it to possibly 3rd or 2nd degree murder. Well i dont know how to leave. Go ahead. Yeah im going to leave that up to the judges but i have to tell you its a horrific i mean it was very obvious what was going on he was being told by those videotaping and looking on that he was cutting off breathing i mean i think what he did was absolutely abhorrent i want to know whats going to happen with the other 3 officers that were standing there that could have prevented they could have stopped it and at some point rick i think what were seeing this explosion of violence and the rioting in the looting and everything is that we are having a real crisis of faith in some of our institutions because there havent been consequences in the past for bad behavior like officer showed when he had 19 violations in his career and it doesnt appear that there were serious action taken against him and now we end up in this situation and i have to tell you rick i listened to the africanamerican voices and the issues with the cops and i have a better understanding for that lack of trust now when i can see what the f. B. I. Has done over the last few years and i realize on some level at some level i can understand a lack of faith in institutions because people have abused their power and there have not been consequences for it i want to go to you and as i do i want to show some video of whats going on not just in minneapolis but all over our country in places like louisville and Columbus Ohio and phoenix arizona our 2 largest cities. New york there are. Sometimes nearing on rioters situations how do you explain this situation and what do you say to some of those people who seem in some cases to be getting out of. Well i have really appreciate that question what were seeing right now is that bubbling over that has lasted for decades for generations. And an entire race. For. Murder is are not taken seriously. That just happened today should have happened days ago i am personally upset with a manslaughter charge of murder. Something more serious like murder we what we literally watched happen on video i think that you are a part of a population thats continually ignored up our population that its continually put on the back burner part of the population who has marched not violently and every time you do people tell you that youre doing it wrong you know well just anybody somehow that is against the constitution somehow that its not being a patriot when you try to make yourself known and make what has happened to you become real and make people understand under the weight of a system that has grown astronomically due to its racism and a population that continually has its rights the minute its very hard to tell that population if you will its upset right now to well its an urgency we know that blacks are ignored across this country and i think that right now its a Pivotal Point for individuals regardless of race to start paying attention to the black in america sean stone i want to bring you into this conversation. The president of the United States has tweeted essentially calling many of these protesters thugs thats a very direct word with a history behind it as im sure our panel and most in our audience understand at the same time this white house was supporting the protesters in places like hong kong who also attacked police and who also attacked destroyed property is that the president of invite a charge of hypocrisy here. I think with the president weve seen oftentimes that hes quite a host service and says one thing and ultimately changed very quickly i think that with this situation he may have reacted to be seen the images such as you saw you showed us the beginning of certain expressions of violence that he wanted to and then on further reflection realized well no there are there is only a situation here that needs to be addressed to miss later tweet i saw him so he was the governor to me. Deals start to relax a little bit so there is this notion of what is what is the fear of alanson a situation where as we know the history of depression and of anger and justified anger at the same time how do you feel this and im making sure that businesses like firefighter accidents and the crime about his sports car that have been burned out i mean there are real people in her by the destruction as well so while i would need and some little cheers in a Police Station burning because ultimately that is a tremendous expression of the polish people against a force that can be as weve seen tyrannical there are real people being affected so there has to be a balance shuttle as we know where real businesses lives there i mean you know as well you know people at 1st there have been i want to get back to you can you make us understand why we keep seeing instances like this with Police Officers a lot of people call it racism but i hear others say it may be ignorance it may be a lack of training it may be bad recruitment like maybe were picking the wrong people why how do you assess that sir. I havent that they that it is racism all of those issues dead should main recruiting training all of those have been addressed for all. These years we have addressed those issues we have. Believe aboard months of training retraining we have talked about the recruitment weve talked about all of those issues and ultimately we still have to say this same result is still there i could say you and i have been a Police Officer of the 30th i could say you i remember going to training what was key about training so tell me why that young man who had his knee on a persons net whove been in policing a Police Officer for 90 vs dont know that doing that was against the policy and the regulations of the holders of arm because he did it because. Hes racist and even though institution to say its all part of the race this process that existed in this country as relates to people of color in polk people she hasnt this been nothing done about him and in closing it is him he has had the ability to mass 181000 complaints against him and nothing has been done hes sort of been 1000 complaints ago Ronald Hampton ameesha cross sean stone. And of course ned ryan stand by were coming back with more there is a bombshell which has just been reported by the Washington Post this is fascinating there may be a link between the our officer and george floyd as in they may have known each other Work Together for years well report that when we come back stay there this is a special report america in crisis and well be right back. We go to work so you stay home. V. Im holland cook i invite you to climb with me above the main stream media mire and from that higher fan to watch to glimpse the big picture question more. I like it when the hosts ask a question for the guests and then actually listens to the guests answer and moan and react to that answer a folks Dennis Miller here ive got a new show. Of my pap and tony a host of americas lawyer in white collar criminals policy guy high profits and sneer at the pain of those they rip off and ruined so thats where i come in questioning for. Once again for those of you just now joining us we are covering the developing the developing story of a crisis in america this time it has to do with some of the racial strains that have been caused as a result of the arrest in the death of an unarmed africanamerican suspect in minneapolis as a result we have learned just moments ago that the Police Officer who held his knee to the suspects neck has been officially charged this happening within the past half hour we want to reintroduce our our panel now joining us our ned ryan c. E. O. Of the american majority cross. Watching the hawks Ronald Hampton retired d. C. Metro Police Officer and now joining us as well we welcome to the panel ben strong. Stand a veteran journalist whos covered many of these disturbances around the country before we do anything else i want you to be able to see for yourselves some of the sights and sounds of what took place last night into the wee hours of the night and the Early Morning here with the latest now of a wrap up of what happened in minneapolis is our correspondent there in fronsac. Church related to the minneapolis Police Officers the same protesters took to the streets across the country let. Me spend just turning. 7 people were shot with overnight and. Shown on camera. The minneapolis fires were not only 2nd homes and businesses but at 3rd precinct where the 4 officers and the george floyd case worked. Friday morning as firefighters continue to work putting out fires around the city the Minnesota National guard was called in who just days ago were called in to help with the coronavirus pandemic at a News Conference friday minnesotas governor got pushback from the media on the lack of organization between local police and Even State Police with the National Guard also questions on why 3 journalists covering the riots were arrested by Minneapolis Police the governor apologized to c. N. N. And all journalists and he went on to say the emphasis should not be on the riots but what precipitated that but i refuse to have it take away the attention of the stain that we need to be working on is what happened with those fundamental institutional racism that allows a man to be held down in broad daylight and thank god young person at a camera to video it the president also reacting to the video that ignited it all and ive asked the attorney general if its very general to take a very strong look and see whats going on because it was a very very bad thing that i saw. And i didnt like it. Im not going to get. Into i think it was not good was not good very bad but after seeing riots in minneapolis friday night the president s tweet on the situation was given a warning label by twitter saying it violated the platforms of rules about violence trump tweets starting as a message of support for minnesotas governor but ending with when the meeting starts the shooting starts the 4 officers involved in floyds death have all been fired by the Minneapolis Police department but now pressure from the National Protests are searching to charge for with murder but the process of doing so could still take some time for the news with rick sanchez unfair and fronsac our lets go back to our panel now to discuss some of the things that were learning that are taking place i think its important to. On this story the Washington Post has written this morning saying that there may have been a relationship of some form between the officer and george of floyd. Think i want to hear your perspective on this are you surprised does it change the story at all in your mind. Im not surprised and i dont think that it actually changes a story we know that in many cases where there is Police Brutality or violence involved there has been at least one interaction between that Police Officer and the individual that the induction wing so im not surprised by that what i am surprised by continue to find problem with it is that the media and its coverage has been so far just throwing all types of shade and writing has totally forgotten why this is why this occurred to begin with these were protests these are people who are very upset these are people who are in the midst of a tragic situation we have one guy arrested right now there are 3 others that are still roaming free all of this from happening and i think that we cant lose sight of that we cant lose sight of the fact that normal for america is what we saw in minnesota the only thing that makes this National Attention or new spike is because someone filmed it on their cell phone but not withstanding the genesis of this med ryan should we still allow or forgive what some of these protesters are doing out of him. I mean the problem is theyre kind of undercutting some of their argument i understand the frustration i mean criminal cops are the worst they have been given and trust a great trust to enforce and uphold the law they rely upon our good will and for this to happen they have betrayed our trust and yet those who have gone from protesting to looting are undermining some of their argument but i have to say this rick they worked together for 17 years and show them as bouncers to gether i do think theres going. To be something that comes out of there is a layer of complexity that will be added to it not to dismiss it all those 4 Police Officers every last one of them should be arrested there should be consequences for them and im very interested to see what happens to those other 3 officers i hope theyre also arrested in short order as well all right i want to bring in i want to. I want to bring in hold on were being told right now the charge is 3rd degree murder is that right joe im hearing you tell me it is ok the charges are not manslaughter it is a 3rd degree murder according to sources i dont know where the regional manslaughter report came from but the information is just coming to us so we want to clear it up as soon as we possibly can is there a is there a major distinction there i think i need to get back to you Ronald Hampton on that is that a is that a difference or distinction how do you view it. Yes it is it is a major distinction manslaughter. So thats. A very different when we talk about murder and so most serious individuals as well as 3 other offices ought to be. Going to. Bench want to bring you into this theres something bizarre that happened last night in the middle of all the coverage as police were trying to remove people from the area near the Police Precinct that was burned suddenly c. N. N. Reporters were arrested by police it did not seem but im going to let the viewers see it for themselves and yourself that the reporters were being obstructive in any way in fact here it is and then i want your comment. Do you know little i am under arrest or. Client why am i under arrest. Ok. Well if. I were to be with you. If youre just tuning in and. You. Are watching our correspondent on watch and here i thought i dont know if you guys saw it because the producer was talking to me and we were catching up on some details but i just want to make sure our audience knows that reporter told the Police Officer will go wherever you want this to go please understand that we want to be in the background please tell us what to do he was 100 percent cooperative with the police and they arrested him anyway since then the governor of the state has profusely apologized not only to c. N. N. But to all members of the media for what happened there ben swan to you. Yet i think it goes back to exactly what were talking about look this entire conversation surrounds major issues of abuse of power were seeing it over and over and over happening in minneapolis and across the country weve seen it for decades i was in ferguson i was in baltimore during the friday great riots and then once again we have whats happening in minneapolis but with c. N. N. You have a News Reporter and crew who are essentially saying the officers were just covering whats happening because it was a fire at this precinct and were live on the air and asking where do you want to go where do you want us to move to and the officers wont tell them where they want to go they simply just arrest them which again i guess is just goes back to this abuse of power this ability to be able to kind of stomp on people and thats whats driving so much of this anger and frustration in minneapolis and across the country people sick and tired of living in what feels more and more like a police state why would i mean officer hampton why would why would a Police Officer arrest a police a member of the media or the press who is literally doing his job in that moment without explanation. You know. No no no no no they are told and you are when you when you know Police Officers and you have decided the situation you are told to allow the media to do the job. And sad to say this. Protest did they do and then they ask why they have given badges thats why they given us what a given. Away. And let them do their job. As gentlemen just talking about is truly an abuse of power and this isnt the 1st time because in baltimore as well as in ferguson immediate was stopped in chain i think it was unfair. To him act on them and the end they knew the police knew that these guys were out of the media and where but yet they still wanted to do it so this whole notion of abuse of power is something that is lingering and has been a part of the process all the low and thats what people are reeling up about unable to contain. My thanks to all of you what a conversation this is an important conversation that im sure all americans are going to be having throughout the course of this week and a mish across Ronald Hampton my fax to sean stone bench and that ryan thanks so much to all of us for participating in this important conversation we want to let you know as a programming note that were going to have a special report for those of you living or watching on the eastern part of the United States it will be at 5 pm for the rest of you watching from different parts of the world it will be on later today and repeatedly its a special report we call it boris becker game set life i will sit down with tennis legend boris becker to talk about among other things the issues were discussing here the laureus awards his career coach at 19 and sport today all that and more im rick sanchez for those of you on portable t.
