Ribfest — albeit in a modified form — is set to go for the Civic Holiday long weekend, the first in-person summer festival to take place in Victoria Park since 2019.
While the traditional ribbers’ row will be set up, additional attractions — such as the midway rides — won’t be possible this year.

“The city has signed off. Nothing’s going to stop us now,” said organizer Doug Hillier, who had been negotiating Ribfest formats with city officials. At one point, for example, Hillier thought a drive-in format might work. But on Friday, Ontario will enter Step 3 of the province’s COVID reopening framework, the least-restrictive of the three stages.
