A retired Jefferson County sheriff's deputy was arrested Wednesday on child sex abuse charges. According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, allegations against retired deputy Richard Reid were made on June 30, prompting a "thorough investigation." The sheriff's office presented its findings to the district attorney's office and warrants were later issued.Reid was booked into the county jail on charges of sexual abuse of a child less than 12 and sexual abuse by fore. "Reid retired after 30 years with the Sheriff’s Office and returned as a Contract Deputy in July of 2019," the sheriff's office said in a news release. "Reid was employed as a contract Deputy in the School Resource Division until May 28, 2021."Authorities said the allegations were not affiliated with Reid’s work assignment during his employment with the sheriff’s office.Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office at 205-731-2815.
