Damage was concentrated in a relatively remote area of the Township of Whitewater Region near McCoy Chute Trail and Curtis Trail. This is the area used as the launching point on the Ottawa River by rafting companies and whitewater paddlers. Many trees were also downed on Cedar Island, Burnt Island and Sullivan Island at the head of the Rocher Fendu rapids.
The Northern Tornadoes Project was founded in 2017 as a partnership between Western University and ImpactWX. Its aim is to better detect tornado occurrence throughout Canada, improve severe and extreme weather prediction, mitigate damage to people and property and investigate future implications due to climate change.
