If the bill passes, it would take effect at the beginning of the 103rd General Assembly.
CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL — State Rep. Anthony DeLuca (D-Chicago Heights) introduced legislation in February that, if passed, would set term limits for the speaker of the Illinois House of Representatives, president of the Illinois Senate, and House and Senate minority leaders. On Wednesday, the term limits bill unanimously passed the House Executive Committee.
House Bill 642 would limit all leadership positions for both parties and both chambers to 10 years. If the legislation were to pass both chambers and be signed into law, it would take effect at the beginning of the 103rd General Assembly, or the second Wednesday in January 2023.
