One of those golf phrases that every golfer on the planet has heard is “Drive for Show and Putt for Dough.” I’m not sure who coined it, but it has to have been around the sport for more than a century now. As far as advice goes, it certainly makes sense. It’s all about getting the ball in the hole in as few strokes as possible. A great putter who can make a 30 footer while his opponent two putts from eight feet doesn’t necessarily need to bash it 350 yards.
