PANAMA CITY BEACH — Personal watercraft will race across the Gulf of Mexico behind a local restaurant as part of a nationwide competition this weekend.
For the second year in a row, the Pro Watercross National Tour will be held behind Sharky's Beachfront Restaurant in Panama City Beach. The event is free to the public and is slated for Saturday and Sunday, said Grant Wittstruck, marketing director for Sharky's.
"They create a course out in the ocean with big, inflatable balloons ... and the (competitors) race along the course and the fastest person wins," said Wittstruck, who added there are different classes for amateurs and professionals. "It's a great free event on the sand and you're not going to see this any other time out of the year. It's just a cool thing."
