The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has criticized the Congress party accusing it of turning Karnataka from being a power surplus state to a power deficit state. The BJP claimed that the increase in power tariffs and the possibility of load-shedding are a result of the Congress' failure to fulfill their promise of providing free electricity. The state's reliance on thermal plants, due to half-filled reservoirs caused by a weak monsoon, has further aggravated the situation.
