When a 25-year-old Reading man contracted coronavirus, he could no longer afford to pay his $975 monthly rent for his Reading townhouse.
âI lost my job because I had to quarantine for two weeks,â Richard Hernandez told District Judge Tonya A. Butler during a hearing last week in a pilot project to prevent renters in her Reading district from being evicted because of complications from the coronavirus.
âIâve been trying to get a new high-paying job,â Hernandez said.

The property manager, Ned Guard, said he understands the situation and is hopeful Hernandez, a 2014 Muhlenberg High School graduate, will soon land a new job.
