2020's graduation festivities were dramatically scaled back due to the pandemic, with schools hosting drive-thru ceremonies. This year is a step back toward normal, albeit with some concessions. Many Sarasota-Manatee high school graduations were held in large outdoor venues, with the few indoor ceremonies scaled back to protect against COVID-19.
Sarasota-Manatee college graduation ceremonies ran the gamut, with University of South Florida combining its different colleges into one ceremony at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Ringling College going virtual, and both New College and State College of Florida holding in-person ceremonies.
